TEN Back Again With 'Illuminati' Due Nov 9

Artist:
Friday, November 9, 2018
Categories:

Hot on the heels of last year’s “Gothica”, UK hard rock stalwarts TEN are returning with a new album, “Illuminati”!

The album promises to be one of the hallmarks of their 22+ years career, where fans will easily spot all the trademark textures and flavours they have come to expect from TEN, with a consistent and solid spark of creativity throughout. “Illuminati” continues to build upon the rich legacy that the great British rockers have established in their 20+ year career. Listen NOW to the first track from the album “Jericho”!

“Illuminati” is said to be an elite, secret organization of world leaders, business authorities, innovators, artists, and other influential members of the global society. A coalition that unites influencers of all political, religious, and geographical backgrounds to further the prosperity of the human species as a whole. The album “Illuminati” brings the band’s atmospheres and sounds and weaves them into a reel of mysteries, esoteric tales, and elaborate spells, evoking embers that spark the imagination courtesy of the classic songwriting of vocalist Gary Hughes.

Following the success of the recent string of albums, from “Albion” to “Gothica”, Hughes is joined once again by guitarists Dann Rosingana, Steve Grocott and John Halliwell along with bass player Steve McKenna, keyboard maestro Darrel Treece-Birch, and drummer Max Yates. On their fourth outing as a collective unit, the musicians in TEN have raised the bar even higher than they had previously. The album is full of stunning guitar work over a rich keyboard, bass, and drum tapestry with Hughes’ rich vocals once again bringing the nuances of the intricate lyrics to life.

“Illuminati” was produced by Gary Hughes and mixed and mastered by Dennis Ward. TEN’s longstanding professional association with Dennis has been ongoing since he mixed their 2011 album, “Stormwarning” and has always guaranteed albums with stunning sound and production.

TEN Announces New Album "Gothica", Out July 7

Artist:
Thursday, July 6, 2017
Categories:

British melodic hard rock band TEN has announced they will release their new album, "Gothica" on July 7.

The highly anticipated new album promises to be one of their strongest collection of songs to date. It is full of all the trademark textures and flavors we have come to expect from TEN, arguably one of the best and most consistent melodic hard rock bands in the genre. “Gothica” renews TEN’s longstanding association with the Frontiers label and proudly displays all the hallmarks of classic TEN albums and will surely continue to build upon the rich legacy that the great British rockers have forged over a career spanning 22 years and counting.

“Gothica” emerges as their darkest album to date. Embracing history, romance and erotic horror in equal measure as it does, the title proves to be a fitting name. As listeners, we are transported from the darker side of human nature to the nocturnal supernatural, a dramatic realm of nightmares and the forbidden. “Gothica” is cinematic in every sense of the word. A web of musically elaborate spells, evoking embers that spark the imagination courtesy of the classic song writing of vocalist Gary Hughes.

Of the album, Gary says, "I am extremely pleased with the collection of songs on "Gothica" as they feel like they belong together. The band are firing on all cylinders once again and it is a gift to the army of fans everywhere who have relentlessly supported us over the years. It is ironically fitting that our 13th studio album should be a little more sinister, at the same time retaining all the commercial traits usually associated with a Ten album."

Following their success on the recent albums “Albion” and “Isla De Muerta”, Hughes is joined once again by guitarists Dann Rosingana, Steve Grocott and John Halliwell along with bass player Steve McKenna, keyboard maestro Darrel Treece-Birch, and drummer Max Yates. On their third outing as a collective unit, the musicians in TEN have raised the bar even higher than they had previously. The album is full of stunning guitar work over a rich keyboard, bass, and drum tapestry with Hughes’ vocals once again bringing the nuances of the intricate lyrics to life.

“Gothica” was produced by Gary Hughes and mixed and mastered by Dennis Ward. TEN’s longstanding professional association with Dennis has been ongoing since he mixed their 2011 album, “Stormwarning”.

Additionally, the album features stunning original artwork by Stan W. Decker, depicting a beautiful enchantress reading incantations from a book whilst summoning shadowy characters from its pages. Stan has cleverly illustrated the piece in order to portray the characters emerging from the books pages as the actual characters from the songs on the album. The atmospheric sleeve photography is once again provided by the remarkably talented Adrian Ashworth.

Frontiers is proud to be working with the legendary TEN again and looks forward to sharing this stunning new album with the band's fans around the globe!

1. The Grail
2. Jekyll And Hyde

TEN Return to the 'Battlefield' June 17 with Compilation Release

Artist:
Friday, June 17, 2016
Categories:

TEN signed to Rocktopia Records back in 2014, in a similar fashion to their one-two release of their much lauded debut and follow-up 'Name of the Rose' in a 6 month period back in 1996, 'Albion' and 'Isla De Muerta' were released in November 2014 and May 2015 respectively. Both albums gained highly positive reviews with Gaetano Di Falco's wonderful art making striking covers.

2015 also saw the release of the 'Dragon And Saint George' EP which contained 3 exclusive bonus tracks.

With 'Albion' now completely sold out it seemed a great idea to collect all the Ten songs from their Rocktopia Records period - including all the Japanese bonus tracks and exclusive EP tracks - onto one Limited Edition double CD release (500 copies only) and sell for the price of a single CD.

As well as Ten fans, hard rock fans who have not previously bought their albums should hopefully be tempted to check them out with such a Value For Money release.

This new collection is titled 'Battlefield' and once again has a wonderful exclusive cover by Gaetano Di Falco.

Release date - June 17, 2016

TEN Sign New Album Deal With Frontiers

Artist:
Categories:

Frontiers Music Srl is excited to announce the newly signed partnership with the band TEN for the release of a new studio album in 2017. In addition, the label acquired the band's full catalogue and will plan special releases in both physical and digital formats.

In April 1998, Frontiers Records released it first international release ever, that was from TEN and the album was the band's official live album, 'Never Say Goodbye'. That release paved the way for more successful releases, both for the label and the band.

TEN was also the very first band for Frontiers to make a dent in the national album charts. That happened with the band's fourth studio album, 'Spellbound' which landed at #100 on the official album charts in Germany.

That record remains the band's most successful release and part of a catalog including classy Melodic Hard Rock masterpieces such as 'The Name of The Rose', 'Babylon' and the awesome debut album, 'X'. With a sound rooted in traditional British Hard Rock (think Whitesnake, Rainbow and UFO) and elements of American Arena Rock, TEN are now stronger than ever. As proof of this, the band's latest lyric video for "The Dragon And Saint George" will be showcased at SXSW Film, Interactive media and Music Festival at Austin, TX on the 18th and 19th of March - enjoy the video here: https://youtu.be/bI3ZRlpR9Q4

Singer and songwriter Gary Hughes says: 'We are proud to return to Frontiers for a multi album deal that will secure both future and past legacies. It is a particularly poignant return, in that it brings Ten home to the label which began 20 years ago, releasing the Ten double live album 'Never Say Goodbye'. The new studio album, that is to be recorded this year, promises to bear all the commercial trade marks of classic Ten with plenty of power too. In addition, Frontiers plans to reissue the entire Ten anthology in a 14 disc box set to be entitle 'Opera Omnia' , the Latin phrase for Complete Works. Ten are returning home in many ways and the future longevity of the band and it's songs, is preserved for this new chapter in the bands ever evolving history'.

Get ready for the return of TEN!

The new EP from Ten isn’t just a single track excuse to promote the current album – it’s a definite companion piece to the Isla De Muerta opus.
Featuring exclusive artwork from Gaetano Di Falco, the EP has three previously unreleased tracks. And what good tracks they are too.

The excellent album track The Dragon And Saint George is followed by an epic sounding Muskateers: Soldiers of the King - classic ‘pomp a-la-Ten’, while The Prodigal Saviour is an uptempo melodic rock ride as is the early AOR Ten sounding Is There Anyone With Sense.

The EP also includes the European bonus track 'We Can Be As One' in case you don’t have that. Well worth it of course. Simply put, more classic Ten.

Ten’s newie touches on just about everything that the band is known for - Gary Hughes’ simple, but warm vocals; pomp flavoured hard rock tunes that run the gamut from simple to epic; totally bonkers lyrics about spectral astrology, mandrake twilight, dragons, distressed wenches and stuff like that; and a comforting knowledge that band ringleader Hughes knows where his strengths are and plays to them.
The best thing about this recent revival in Ten’s fortunes is Gary’s refined production skills. This album features a massive sound, mixing a triple powerhouse guitar attack with a rich deep organ and keyboard presence, all mixed into a clean wall of sound by Dennis Ward.

The album picks up where Albion left off. Where Albion’s style and sound could arguably be placed against the band’s classic debut, so to can this sequel be placed alongside the band’s original Name Of The Rose opus, which followed the self-titled debut.
I’m impressed with the lineup now in play. I hope they can maintain some stability there now.

Opening with the epic Dead Men Tell No Tales, the band’s boisterous sound is in full flight, with guitars dueling like clashing swords upon the good ship Ten.
Tell Me What To Do is a keyboard filled pomp rocker with some curious lyrics, but a commercial, poppy chorus.
Acquiesce is darker and a little more intense and is classic Ten all the way.
This Love is a terrific classic Gary Hughes ballad with soaring vocals and guitars all the way. You’ve heard it before from Gary, but I’m happy to keep hearing quality ballads like this.
The Dragon And Saint George features swirling keyboards, fast twisting vocals and keeps up a decent pace throughout.
Intensify is another fast moving melodic rocker, but this one stands out for a brilliant vocal melody in the chorus and a classic Ten sound. Love this one and it runs over 7 minutes.

The even more epic 8 minute The Valley Of The Kings is reminiscent of the Name Of The Rose album again, taking a long way around approach, with soloing guitars all over this one.
Revolution clocks in at over 6 minutes, giving the middle part of the album a really epic feel. The track itself is a punchy fast moving hard rocker with some impressive metal guitar soloing.
The moody and heavy Angel Of Darkness moves even faster, with drummer Max Yates earning his keep.
The Last Pretender is a 7 minute melodic rocker with a big groove and another appealing chorus structure.
It wouldn’t be a Ten album unless we closed with a simple, piano ruled sentimental ballad. This time it’s We Can Be As One doing the job. The song builds to a big finish in pretty quick time.

It’s another must have for long time Ten devotees and anyone who really enjoyed last year’s Albion release.
Big guitars, big production, big pomp and some epic songs about love, life, scurvy dogs and pillaging the seven seas. What more could you ask for?

TEN Release ‘Tell Me What To Do’ Lyric Video As Appetiser From New Album

Artist:
Wednesday, May 20, 2015
Categories:

May 20th sees the release of the new TEN album Isla De Muerta on Rocktopia Records.

Following on from the massive success of Albion released in Nov 2014, Isla De Muerta sees Ten continue their extremely rich vein of song writing form, however this time gravitating towards a nautical theme in difference to the strong Celtic themes of Albion.

With absolutely STELLAR reviews being returned for Isla De Muerta so far, many even more complimentary than Albion, Ten have now proven that the band are re-energised and re-establishing themselves as one of the most potent forces in the field of melodic hard rock today.
The lead single "Tell Me What To Do" has been the most added track to international radio stations last week and continues to force its way into almost every rock  play-list on every  station across Europe, with additions also in the USA, Canada, Brazil and, of course, Japan.

The accompanying lyric video for Tell me what to do is intended to offer the listener just a little taste of what to expect from the album, and will no doubt whet the appetite for the full release which can be ordered in advance through www.rocktopiarecords.com, the first 250 copies of which will be autographed by Gary Hughes.

With Albion, Ten re-established themselves as a major force in the melodic rock world, and now with Isla De Muerta the band have taken the next step, at all times proving form is temporary whilse class in permanent.

Isla De Muerta will be on many album of the year lists come December, and deservedly so. In the meantime enjoy Tell Me What To Do and remember, there is much, much more to come on May 20th.

Ten get a lot of shit thrown at them for just being Ten. It’s not justified, as their track record for delivering is just as impressive as any other bands out there. I’ve been a fan of these guys since their 1996 debut.
Even the less acclaimed The Twilight Chronicles (2006) and Stormwarning (2011) held up ok in my mind. It’s only with Gary Hughes’ re-recording of the band’s earlier material The Essential Collection that I had to call them out for unacceptable quality.
There are enough studio albums now that everyone has their favourite era and style that Gary Hughes has taken on, but it seems without question the most popular is the early years.

And that is why Albion is so rewarding. Gary manages to do something many artists aspire to, but fall short with. He’s taken the band back to the sound of their most melodic and most powerful albums. The self-titled debut, Name Of The Rose, Spellbound and Babylon are probably the band’s best records and all are represented here.

If the melodic rock of Alone In The Dark Tonight represents the debut, then the heavier Battlefield takes on The Name Of The Rose.
It's Alive is classic Ten with a modern twist and the heavy bombastic Celtic pomp of Albion Born is pure Gary Hughes brilliance.
The rock ballad Sometimes Love Takes The Long Way Home is once again classic Ten doing everything they do best. A track Whitesnake would be proud to call their own.
A Smuggler's Tale is the heavier side of the band’s sound, while the 7 and a half minute Die For Me is heavy again, but pretty commercial with a catchy chorus.
It Ends This Day concludes a trio of heavier songs.
The moody piano ballad Gioco D'Amore is sung in English and Italian and is something very special. Once again, a classic Ten ballad.
The 6 minute Wild Horses builds from a gentle start to a pomp friendly, hard rocking finish.

Can’t find fault with this album. A terrific return to the sound of the early (and best) years and a step up in songwriting quality over the last few albums.
Fans of British melodic hard rock and the pomp and grandiose arrangements Gary Hughes is famous for are going to love this. A perfect step into the past without moving backwards.

Ten's first album 'X' was released in May 1996 and was warmly acclaimed by the fans and the press especially in the UK and Japan, where they were outselling huge rock bands, reaching sales of 100,000 records only during the first weeks of release. With the songs already written, the band returned to the studio in order to finish their second album. 'The Name Of The Rose' was released in September of the same year (1996) and was even more successful than 'X', gaining enthusiastic reviews from the critics. The title track was also voted "Song Of The Year" by the readers of BURRN! magazine in Japan and the band voted "Brightest Hope".

Ten's popularity in Europe increased when the band signed to major label Mercury Records in Japan and Frontiers in Europe for the release of their fourth studio album, 'Spellbound'. The album was released in April 1999, was produced by Rafe McKenna and was one of the most successful Ten albums in Europe. 'Spellbound' was also the first Ten album for which famous fantasy artist Luis Royo designed the cover.

In 1999, the band returned to the studio in order to begin the recordings of their next album. 'Babylon', which was released in August 2000 and featured keyboard player Don Airey (Deep Purple) and once again, proved to be another successful release for Ten and Gary Hughes, even entering the German Rock Album Charts.

Soon after, the band returned to the studio to record the follow-up album to Babylon, named 'Far Beyond The World'. The recordings took place in Hannover, Germany, with Tommy Newton behind the mixing desk and ex-Hard Rain keyboard player Paul Hodson taking the place of Don Airey. In December 2001, Ten released 'Far Beyond the World' but just before the promotion of the new album had begun, guitarist Vinny Burns (Dare/Asia) announced his departure from the band, citing creative differences.

After several albums and line-up changes, the band signed to the newly formed Rocktopia Records in 2013, and are recording back to back albums once more as they did back when they burst onto the scene all those years ago. The first of these is titled 'ALBION', which will be released worldwide on the 24th of November through Rocktopia Records (Marquee in Japan) and features stunning original artwork from Italian maestro Gaetano De Falco.

For years Gary Hughes has toyed with the idea of bringing even more power and width into the TEN live sound. To this end, TEN are proud to announce the arrival of two new members in the shape of guitar players Dann Rosingana and Steve Grocott which will enable the band to play more of the layers in Ten's studio sound live on stage.

This was demonstrated for the first time at a triumphant set at the final Firefest festival this October where the band played a storming set, and excellent reviews for 'Albion' continue to pour in, like this one below...

TEN "ALBION" Review by The Blast Magazine (US) "'Albion' is the first Ten release Blast Magazine has reviewed since the release of 'Babyon' which was released on August 28, 2000. This ten song CD is a complete master piece!!!! I mean there is not and I mean not a bad song on this CD. 'Albion' is one of those melodic metal CD's you can put in and listen to it from beginning to end without skipping a track. Lyrically and vocally Gary is in top form and at the top of his game. He sounds just as good today has he did the first time I heard him in 2000. This is one release you absolutely have to have!!!!"
