CHICAGO LOOKS BACK AT 1969 DEBUT

Chicago Transit Authority: From Mass Transit to Mass Appeal
Keyboardist/ Singer / Songwriter Robert Lamm Shares Insiders Perspective

Dallas, TX - May 6, 2014.  North American syndicated Rock radio show and website InTheStudio: The Stories Behind Historys Greatest Rock Bands hops aboard the Chicago Transit Authoritys 1969 self-titled debut album this week.

Chicago Transit Authority was the inaugural run on what became a record-setting marathon into rock history. The uncommonly talented seven piece outfit blew away all conventional wisdom by making their debut a double album, spawning three big hits, Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is?, Beginnings and Questions 67 & 68. With the CTA album in 1969, Chicago, the abbreviated hometown name they soon adopted, set out on the first leg of a spectacular 45 year ride that would see them become the second highest-selling American band in history, second only to the Beach Boys.

The man behind those initial hits and many more, keyboardist / singer / songwriter Robert Lamm spoke to InTheStudio host Redbeard about the musical foundations of the Chicago Transit Authority.

We knew we wanted to do something original. We knew we wanted to break new ground... We wanted to open up the concept of Rock songwriting. We wanted to be able to play something as far out as Frank Zappa and still be able to dance to it, and still have it be able to be programmed on radio.

35TH ANNIVERSARY OF VAN HALEN II

Artist:

Dallas, TX - April 29, 2014. North American syndicated Rock radio show and website InTheStudio: The Stories Behind History's Greatest Rock Bands celebrates the 35th anniversary of Van Halen II with a look back at four formative Van Halen albums.
The quintessential American hard rock band Van Halen's 1978 debut all but guaranteed their election to the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame on the first ballot, quickly becoming a benchmark for every hard rock band ever since. Six years later they even topped that with 1984, one of the most popular and influential albums ever. Every one of the four Van Halen albums in between, II, Women and Children First, Fair Warning and Diver Down would all sell millions and each would top its predecessor on the album sales chart.
These early years, although undeniably successful, came with a price, and by 1982 Van Halen had become a series of contradictions: even though selling a million each on Van Halen II and its successors, as well as hundreds of thousands of concert tickets, their record label was concerned over a lack of mainstream hits and a shallow well of songs. Creative frustration along with personal conflicts within the band would eventually lead to a post-David Lee Roth Van Halen.

Alex Van Halen describes to InTheStudio host Redbeard how visceral and primal their creative process was on those formative albums. “When we're in the studio and the amps are cranked to eleven on the dial and you're having a great time playing it, I think that's the one thing you shouldn't forget. We've been looking at songs, how do we write them, how do we come up with the ideas, but once we start playing, it's a perpetual thing.”

FORMER VINNIE VINCENT DRUMMER DISCUSSES MAKING OF UNRELEASED ALBUM
VINNIE VINCENT SPECIAL PART 5 - EPISODE 135
DECIBEL GEEK PODCAST

The Decibel Geek Podcast has released the fifth installment of it's Vinnie Vincent Special with Episode 135 - Vinnie Vincent Special Part 5 w/Andre Labelle.

In this in-depth discussion, hosts Aaron Camaro and Chris Czynszak are joined by former Vinnie Vincent and current drummer of The Sky Andre LaBelle. Andre was tapped by Vincent for the recording of the still-unreleased Guitars from Hell album that was in production from 1989 - 1992. LaBelle shares his memories of auditioning for the enigmatic former KISS guitarist, the amazing amount of equipment available, and the meticulous recording techniques that seemed to define Vincent as the extremist of which he has been described.

The album went through numerous titles during production. In this long-form discussion, LaBelle recalls a period where Vincent was bouncing between projects; his own and his contribution at the time to KISS' upcoming 1992 release and how one of his titles plays into KISStory.

Other topics discussed in this episode include Vinnie's method for punching in his guitar parts in the studio as well as how budgets were stretched and tensions caused a break from Vincent's then-label Enigma; causing the project to be shelved to this day.

Episode 135 - Vinnie Vincent Special Part 5 w/Andre LaBelle is now available for download/stream at the following link:
