Forest Field is a project with the intent of creating an ear caressing combination of ambient and
proggy typed instrumentals with vocal Progressive Rock songs. The name originates from the local
name for the region where founder and songwriter Peter lives.

The second full length album sees Phil Vincent (Legion, D´Ercole, Tragik, solo) taking care of all vocals.
Sue Straw returns, this time to add some haunting Native American flutes on the track Hope. All
other instruments were performed, recorded and produced by Peter Cox (Chinawhite, Earthshine) at
Down the Road studio Netherlands.

We are proud to mention that the mix was handled by Billy Sherwood of Yes and Circa: fame at Circa:
HQ, Ca, USA and mastering was taken care of by Maor Appelbaum in Ca, USA.

ALBUM:
The theme is best presented with the track stronger: “ it´s not the falling down, it´s the getting up
again” . Hence the album´s title, keep moving forward! The odd numbered tracks are again all
instrumentals. The even numbered tracks have vocals.

On www.youtube.com/user/RockCompanyNL the EPK for the album can be found, as well as teaser samples for various other tracks.

Since making a comeback a decade back, Europe have trodden a similar path – a more organic sound, heavier and more modern sound and production, but above all, the albums have been delivered with a sense of confidence and definite purpose.
Fans have generally been very warm to the band’s updated sound and I must say that despite a few fillers on each album, their recorded output has been very consistent and stays on brand.
Now onto album number 5 since 2004, War Of Kings takes up where Bag Of Bones left off, just taking it to the next level. And leaving behind the Kevin Shirley production that many are not fans of.
This is a record heavily derived from a classic rock 70s sound, with a modern production acting as a balancing force.
I’ve found each of the last 4 albums to feature some career highlights, without at any stage absolutely nailing a classic album.

This time though, the guys might just have done it. Surprisingly the album appeals more to me than any other despite an obvious lack of pacing throughout.
This is a really slow paced album, whether it is the hard hitters or a couple of more sentimental tunes. But pacing aside, the songs are just enthralling.

Highlights are plentiful. From the opening slow thunder of War Of Kings to the rare frenetic pace of Hole In My Pocket to the Zeppelinesque classic rock of The Second Day with its surging chorus to the almost gospel feel of the heavy, ultra-slow Praise You, featuring an extraordinary vocal from Joey Tempest.
You might think the intensity of the album might let up a bit, but no; it only gets more intense with the mid-tempo bombastic hard rock of Nothin’ To Ya, a truly powerful track with an organ drenched chorus.
California 405 does relax the vibe slightly before the raucous (and obvious single) Days Of Rock N Roll sees the peddle put to the metal with the most instantly likeable riff on the album.
Children Of The Mind and Rainbow Bridge are both very credible classic rockers with their own style and Light it Up has a groove more akin to Extreme than Europe.
The highlight of the second half and of the album as a whole is the simply beautiful Angels (With Broken Hearts). What a classic slow ballad.

The band’s best album in my mind since reforming because it is track for track more consistent than the other (also good) albums.
I’ve heard mixed fan reviews for this, but I think those mainly come from those waiting for Prisoners In Paradise 2. It ain’t going to happen folks.
Crank the tempo a little more and have another tune or two like Days Of Rock N Roll and a classic is born.

Is it at all possible to review this release without making the voice of frontman David Lee Roth an issue? Better for me if I don’t, as lunatic members of the DLR fanclub will certainly riot should anyone dare state the obvious.
But, at the risk of doing something I hate - sitting on the fence - it ain’t that bad. We are talking of course about the current (and recent) vocal abilities of the great Sir David Lee Of The Roth – a frontman so iconic in rock n roll circles that it is almost an 11th commandment to hold him in reverence.

I’ll roll out the cliché that Dave was always more frontman and circus ring leader than styled vocalist, but his charisma and charm (plus fronting the best band on the planet) made him a household name.
I like Dave – I like his energy, I like his intelligence and wit and I like (most) of his recorded output over the years.
Yes, his voice is kinda rough, even for an old guy, but his fitness and stage aura is unquestionable and it is that factor that gets him a pass on all concert appearances and therefore this live document of the band’s 2013 tour.

I’d probably rather hear Dave then watch Dave, his antics are a bit much sometimes, so the lack of DVD here is not an issue for me.
There is also at least a dozen other Van Halen live concerts that fans rank higher in demand than this outing, but this is both the first appearance of Dave and Wolfgang on any official live release.
Any archival live release would have to involve Michael Anthony (I had to mention him, didn’t I?) and that would just be awkward…right?

So, Tokyo Dome - In Concert is here and you know what, I may have a far more enthusiastic love of the Sammy Hagar era (yes, I had to mention him too), but you cannot deny the band is on fire here and Eddie Van Halen – wow. It’s one of life’s joys to hear him play any riff at all, let alone those to the iconic Hot For Teacher, Panama, Unchained, Mean Street and Running With The Devil.
Yes, there are vocals that make you cringe occasionally and yes, they miss that Mike Anthony wail, but this is a pretty nice raw, 100% live on the night recording.
And I’m especially enthusiastic about the new inclusions – China Town, She’s The Woman and Tattoo (ok, maybe a little less so on that one…), but A Different Kind Of Truth was a fricken awesome album and deserves to be part of the classic set list of songs.

I love Van Halen. They frustrate the shit out of me though. I’d much prefer a new/old/anything studio release. C’mon guys, time waits for no man, get on with it!
But in the meantime this will do for a while, or at least every time it gets warm enough for a BBQ.

TEN Release ‘Tell Me What To Do’ Lyric Video As Appetiser From New Album

May 20th sees the release of the new TEN album Isla De Muerta on Rocktopia Records.

Following on from the massive success of Albion released in Nov 2014, Isla De Muerta sees Ten continue their extremely rich vein of song writing form, however this time gravitating towards a nautical theme in difference to the strong Celtic themes of Albion.

With absolutely STELLAR reviews being returned for Isla De Muerta so far, many even more complimentary than Albion, Ten have now proven that the band are re-energised and re-establishing themselves as one of the most potent forces in the field of melodic hard rock today.
The lead single "Tell Me What To Do" has been the most added track to international radio stations last week and continues to force its way into almost every rock  play-list on every  station across Europe, with additions also in the USA, Canada, Brazil and, of course, Japan.

The accompanying lyric video for Tell me what to do is intended to offer the listener just a little taste of what to expect from the album, and will no doubt whet the appetite for the full release which can be ordered in advance through www.rocktopiarecords.com, the first 250 copies of which will be autographed by Gary Hughes.

With Albion, Ten re-established themselves as a major force in the melodic rock world, and now with Isla De Muerta the band have taken the next step, at all times proving form is temporary whilse class in permanent.

Isla De Muerta will be on many album of the year lists come December, and deservedly so. In the meantime enjoy Tell Me What To Do and remember, there is much, much more to come on May 20th.

FAITH CIRCUS Announce New Lineup

Artist:
Wednesday, May 6, 2015
Categories:

Norway's FAITH CIRCUS have announced their new lineup for their upcoming tour dates and new studio album due on MelodicRock Records later this year.
New members are:

Mr. Hansen: With over 25 years of experience behind the kit, playing on numerous recordings & live with different bands/artists, you couldn't ask for a better 'hit-man'!This rock solid mercenary, who even sat in at a couple of FC shows back in 2013, has finally found refuge inside the Circus...

Malla: A local legend & go-to-guy when it comes to live/studio work in the Bergen area! First came to attention through the 'Trio Gallini' CD (1991). Has since played on the 'On The Rise' (Frontiers 2003) & 'Main Attraction' (MTM 2006) albums, as well as Norwegian guitar virtuoso Jarle H. Olsen's 'Quadrasonic' (2011) disc. The only thing more mind-blowing than his musical abilities...are his extreme dry sense of humor!

Flame: With a name like that you know this guy will set the stage on fire any chance he gets! Has performed (as Ace Frehley) from 2010-2013 at the annual 'FAITH CIRCUS & Friends play KISS' Christmas shows. There are those that say he'd be a better fit than Tommy Thayer...

Marcus Greenway: This hot-shot slipped just beneath the radar last time FC were forced to replace lead guitarist. Although he might be the youngest member of the band he's been bottle-fed a heavy mix of Slash & Lynch...and it shows! And to our female fans we'd just like to say...'You're Welcome!'

Marc Farrano: Yeah...nothing new here!...

US rockers Talon have been through a few singers now, while the core of the band has remained the same. The guys have delivered 3 solid albums, but the debut with vocalist Michael O’Mara is still my favourite, so when news of Michael’s return to the band came through, Fourplay instantly become an anticipated album.
This time the guys have hooked up with Bombay Black’s Ty Sims to handle production duties. He’s someone who really knows his way around a mixing board.
And the combined results of Ty and Michael’s involvement on this record help make some quality songs even better – therefore it’s pretty easy to say that the band have delivered arguably their best album to date. Without question the best since the debut.

The only thing I can’t figure out is why Spun opens the album. It’s probably my favourite track on here actually, but sonically it is unlike any other track and more pop/rock than hard rock. It features guest Tim Pierce on lead guitar and an instantly catchy chorus. But maybe not the pick of the album for an opening track.
Aside from that, the rest of the album moves into the regular Talon beat of catchy hard rocking songs with a melodic heart, good rhythm and plenty of guitar licks.
Michael’s voice is made for these guys.

It’s easy to see why the tracks Sin City Sister and Holly Would are right up front – classic Talon right there.
Rockers Evil and It’s A Fine Line both impress and the mid-tempo melodic rocker Raise Em High is a nice sentimental touch.
On a lighter note, the acoustic I Don’t Wanna Cry is another departure for the band, but in a good way. The mature ballad flows beautifully and almost matches the production vibe of Spun.
The more familiar styled ballad Tonight is another highlight.

Anyone that’s followed John Parker and the guys knows what to expect and that’s exactly what you get with this album. Only better.
Good old-school American hard rock, with a couple of twists in there to keep fans on their toes.
