Jimmy Waldo and Steven Rosen were a prolific writing duo at the height of hard rock’s popularity and were two of the go-to-guys for songs. But it didn’t stop there. This writing partnership lasted more than 30 years. And featured on these songs are the cream of the city’s musicians and singers – Jeff Scott Soto, Steve Plunkett, Billy Trudell, Keith Howland, Tim Pierce, Sherwood Ball, Tommy Thayer, Jamie St James, Marc Ferrari, Bob Kulick and more!

It is a story best told by Steven Rosen, who has penned a detailed essay for the liner notes. Here he summarizes:

Steven writes: "This songwriting partnership endured and survived the pummelling and pulverizing hammer of the music business, one that relentlessly and thoughtlessly banged you on the head with rejections and the closing of doors. Reaching out hundreds and hundreds of times to publishers, managers, music supervisors and anyone else who might listen to our music, we were summarily dismissed out of hand.
We’d sit for hours writing, recording, bashing our brains out and always coming away with something cool.

A handful of the songs here were things I wrote with other people and which Jimmy engineered. Jimmy had by the time we met, already played keyboards in New England and Alcatrazz and would go on to become a member in Blackthorne, Murder’s Row, Quiet Riot and ultimately Graham Bonnet’s band.

As time passed, we began writing with more specific artists and projects in mind. 'Naked' was written as a possible song for Heart; 'Ricochet' and 'When A Heart Beats Alone' were written for an L.A. glam rock band Jimmy was producing called Lace; 'City Of Angels' was written for the JapaneseNHK network; and 'Outlaws' was written for an indie film of the same name and so on.

Because we were writing for certain artists, we both knew we needed to pull in guitar players and singers who could convey a specific vibe. We were able to work with mad gifted players like Keith Howland (Chicago), Harry Cody (Shotgun Messiah), Tony Palacios (Guardian) and Lance Morrison (Don Henley, Rick Springfield).

And the singers? Oh, my god. Mona Moore brought drama and passion to these songs like no other vocalist I’d ever heard. Billy Trudell, working in Warpipes at the time, brought soaring and melodic thunder to 'When It Was A Game,' 'Runaway Fire' and '(Ain’t No) Honor Among Thieves.'

The songs on ‘Voices From the Past’ have remained dormant for years, residing in boxes, hidden in dusty corners. Giles Lavery, Graham Bonnet’s manager and a music historian with an encyclopedic knowledge of all things rock bordering on ultra-nerd, discovered these DATs, ADATs, reel-to-reels, hard drives and even cassettes deep within the bowels of Waldo’s garage. He started listening and was enthralled with what he heard. Giles rescued, resuscitated and resurrected these songs and for that Jimmy and I are eternally grateful."

As per usual, JK Northrup has done his complete remastering service on the tracks and Nello Dell’Omo has put together some classy artwork to match.

The double CD will be released via MRR on September 28.

MelodicRock Records is proud to announce another fantastic 'from the vaults' archive project.

'Voices From The Past' is a very special double CD voyage into the heyday of the Los Angeles 80s rock scene, with your hosts Jimmy Waldo & Steven Rosen.

Few artists have crossed as many boundaries and tested as many limits as Rick Springfield. He’s rarely delivered an album that sounded much like the one before it. Yet you always know just who it is.

Rick has taken a true hard left on a few occasions. And for the most part, his dedicated fan base has followed every step of the way. I say for the most part, because even though I can’t think of a bigger RS fan than myself, there are a couple of albums that sit on my shelf more to satisfy my completist compulsions. And to be honest, they probably sit more because I’m always playing my favourite RS material.

So on a gut feeling that this was something ‘he just had to do’, Rick takes one of the bigger detours of his career, diving into a full service blues album. Well…mostly.

Fans will be familiar with Rick’s love of the blues. Several times over the years he has leant in that direction on an individual song or two. There are still very familiar aspects to ‘The Snake King’. One is of course Rick’s warm voice and those lyrics – delving into familiar subjects like spirituality, God, relationships, sex, depression and temptation.

There is also some familiarity in the music. In fact, there’s a few tunes that could easily have appeared on ‘Rocket Science’ – the fairly breezy country tinged opener Land Of The Blind; plus the cool relaxed Blues For The Disillusioned and the 10 minute long Orpheus In The Underworld, which is quite possibly the most lyrics ever written for any song…ever!

In-between those are some truly impressive examples of some genuine delta blues riffing, complete with harmonica, brass and some guitar playing that really impresses - both fast rocking and slower traditional blues rhythms. Most impressive here, besides the trio of more recognisable Rick songs are the title track; the heavier rock of Little Demon – which converts to a slow guitar solo of pure class; the lyrically dark, rollicking double time blues of Suicide Manifesto and the quite commercial Voodoo House.
And a special mention for the intense title track The Snake King, with its amazing slide guitar.

There’s more than enough here for most dedicated fans to appreciate.  For others it might be a case of heading to iTunes and picking and choosing personal favourites, one advantage of this digital age.

The Snake King is a mood album. For me it may not played at the lengths previous albums have been, but I do know that when the mood does arise, I will enjoy this without question. It’s too good not to. Bottom line – The Snake King is all class as usual, as expected.

INTELLIGENT MUSIC PROJECT 3 Issues New Digital Single feat. JOHN PAYNE

Release Year:
2015

Intelligent Music Project III Releases New Single & Video MIND PROJECTION feat. John Payne & Drum Legend Simon Phillips From Forthcoming Touching the Divine Album

Sofia, Bulgaria - A year after releasing the all-star project My Kind O' Lovin' producer and composer Milen Vrabevski returns to fulfill, as earlier claimed, his promise and ambition with Intelligent Music Project III - Touching the Divine. The new album features session legends Simon Phillips and Tim Pierce, and Nathan East courtesy of YEG. Тhe production concept relies again on two project launchers - guest stars John Payne (ex-Asia) and Toto's Joseph Williams. Says Joseph, It's wonderful to explore working with Milen. The project has a wonderful message, accompanied with some beautiful music and some great rock 'n' roll the musicians in this projecct are top-noch.

Musically Touching the Divine delivers a thrilling example of straightforward songwriting combined with rich and layered sound and gently executed dynamic spins. The first single MIND PROJECTION is a melodic and energetic slice of AOR, scored with John Payne's powerful vocal arrangement and virtuoso instrumental charge, that lets you in deeper to the magic ingredient of this sophisticated project. Bass great Nathan East and fabulous Simon Phillips stamp their own authority in this piece, as well on the record throughout.

Watch the video:

Full creative input by all guest stars in the project. Recording sessions took place at Simon Phillips' Phantom recordings (Williams, Pierce, Phillips and East) and at Intelligent Music Studios in Sofia (Payne, Pierce and vocals from Carl Sentance, recently appointed as Nazareth's lead singer). Says Simon, Music is an universal language. It's really a blessing to have the opportunity to work with musicians from around the world.

MIND PROJECTION brings together once again the positive idea of the producer and composer Milen Vrabevski, that following the true excitement of our hearts and souls will give us the key to living a conscious live and to spiritual satisfaction, we often call happiness. Says Nathan, This project is very special to me, because of the nature of the message of the project. I was very inspired and happy with the idea, because the message has value and meaning and I am about that. The word 'inspirational' is what I use to describe this project.

John Payne, who continues his 14 year legacy as ASIA Featuring John Payne says, Doing this project with Milen - it has been great, really - these songs have a lot of structure and melody. It's a very mature project, it's a very intelligent project for the mind.

Says Milen Vrabevski, I believe we managed to deliver an astonishing sound once again and it will delight the ears and sound systems of hardcore rockers all around the world. Bearing in mind the top-noch level of our guest stars, I allowed myself mainly to record the acoustic guitar of the first single MIND PROJECTION. The video was shot in Bulgaria by Vasil Stefanov, a very prolific and talented video director. The explicit idea was to show the level of collaboration and collective effort of all featuring musicians, which I believe, would be one of the most intriguing aspects for the music fans.

Says Tim Pierce, "My DNA is 'a rock player'. Musically, this project is fun, because it travels a lot of different places."

"I really enjoyed working with Milen in his studio. There is a great sense of depth in his songs. We tried to get the best of my voice." (Carl Sentance)

Intelligent Music Project III - Touching the Divine is coming out in late September 2015.

The coming album is to bring us to the subject of the essence of life. It directs to searching for this special place within our souls that brings the spiritual satisfaction we often call happiness. It is our source of love and creation, balance and harmony. This place is the Divine in us all (Milen Vrabevski, MD)

Produced by Ty Sims / Co-Produced by John Parker, Michael O'Mara & Kory Voxen

An American band and based in California, TALON was born from the ashes of VOXEN ' a band that achieved international success with their release 'Sacrifice', which included a track that was used in the major motion picture 'Outbreak' starring Dustin Hoffman.

Soon after, a new vision was brought forward with the recruitment of Michael O'Mara (Joshua Perahia, EFX) and demos were soon recorded some songs which culminated in the release of their self-titled debut. Upon release, the CD was wildly praised and was on countless top-10 lists for the year. Soon followed major live shows, including The Gods Festival in the U.K. Talon also had the privilege of being Stan Bush's backing band at The Gods Festival and the subsequent DVD release. After a break of working on individual projects, Talon recorded new demos and ultimately recorded their next release 'Fallen Angels'. With a closer vibe to an AOR feel, New York native Chandler Mogel was brought on board.

Chandler Mogel went on to front the Greece outfit Outloud and Talon then used the vocal talents of Shawn Pelata (Line of Fire) and keyboardsman Eric Ragno (China Blue, Takara, etc.). This was simply entitled 'III' and was released on Escape Music. It proved to be a great album which strengthened the bands reputation and the addition of Jeff Scott Soto on guest vocals helped them gain a strong following.

This brings us to 2015 and the band have gone back to their roots and Michael O'Mara is back behind the mike stand. This is great news, and to add to the excitement they had the great pleasure to have contributions from some amazing friends and guitarists involved in the release. First off, top session guitarist extraordinaire Tim Pierce (Bonjovi, Ozzy, Santana, Elton John, etc.) provides Lead Guitar on 2 tracks and Pete Fry (FarCry, Rockarma) provides Lead Guitar on another track!
With amazing tracks such as the emotional 'Tonight', the in-your-face 'Evil', the dirty groove of 'Holly Would', and the energetic fun of 'Spun' ' and many other outstanding tracks, this release is bound to show up on a lot of 10 Bests Lists for 2015!   Its just going to be like the good old days!
Talon recently played at MelodicRockFest4, previewing several of the new tracks and now with several shows being set up for 2015 to promote the upcoming release, look for Talon to play near you in 2015!!!!

Talon have come strong with their fourth release, this is going to be a monster!
