EDEN'S CURSE Call It A Day

Sad news today from Paul Logue:

“It is with heavy heart that we announce that having evaluated our past and future, we have reluctantly mutually decided to bring Eden’s Curse to a natural end.

As you will hopefully agree, Eden’s Curse have always set the highest standards when it comes to songwriting, album production, artwork, live performances, set design, merchandising, social media presence and interaction with our fans.

Those high standards require significant investment of our money, our time, our families time and that of our label AFM Records.

To justify continuing this investment we must see benefits such as ever increasing:

- album sales
- concert attendances
- merchandise sales
- potential live opportunities
- booking agency & management interest

Our evaluation has lead us to this point where it is no longer desirable to continue operating as a band.

Nikola, Thorsten, Paul, Chrism and John do this with a great degree of sadness but we all recognise that this is the right decision for us at this time in our career and lives. We began our journey together as band mates and we bring it to an end as friends.

Our thirteen years together have brought us many wonderful experiences. We have been musically fulfilled beyond our wildest imagination and all of us have been dearly humbled by our wonderfully devoted and loyal fanbase.

We thank everyone dearly who has supported us, most especially Timo & Nils and all the wonderful staff at our record label AFM Records, our producer Dennis Ward, our artist Thomas Ewerhard, our great friends and colleagues Pete Newdeck and Carsten Schulz, Ryan Northrop at Metal Mayhem Music, Andrew McNeice at MelodicRock.com, Akira Sugiuchi at Spiritual Beast plus James LaBrie and Dream Theater, Pamela Moore, Liv Kristine, Doogie White, Shock City Productions and all members of Eden's Curse past and present.

Our website, online store and social media pages will remain until the end of May 2019.

They say all good things must come to an end."

So, for the last time ... STAY CURSED!
Nikola, Thorsten, Paul, Chrism & John.

EDEN'S CURSE - "Forever" (2018) // Official Lyric Video // AFM Records

Renowned American author Dan Brown, who wrote 'The Da Vinci Code', is the inspiration behind multinational Melodic Metal band Eden's Curse and their brand new single 'Forever'.

Bassist and main songwriter Paul Logue picks up the story: “I actually wrote ‘Forever‘ way back in 2005 for Pink Cream 69 singer David Readman’s solo album. However, his label decided to push him in a more AOR direction, so I always kept this one on the back burner - ‘Sign Of The Cross‘ also came from the same session. I always knew it would see the light of day and Thorsten reworked it and made it more in keeping with where we are today as a band. Back then, I had just read Dan Brown’s brilliant novel ‘Angels & Demons‘ and the lyrics are based around that whole story and protagonist Robert Langdon's darkest moments in the night hunting down the illuminati assassin. A lot of people assume that our own song 'Angels & Demons' is based on the book, but it is not“.

Logue goes onto add "Dan Brown is my favourite author and I have read every one of his books. They are a constant source of lyrical inspiration. I just love the way he goes in so deep to his subject matter and isn't afraid to tackle some difficult yet thought provoking subject matters. It is such brilliantly written fiction, that it's almost believable".

Logue goes onto add “We are very much a band that listens to our fans and one thing we have been asked a lot is – can we have all the bonus tracks on one CD? It’s taken a while, but it’s here at last and with the added bonus of a brand new song called ‘Forever‘. I actually wrote ‘Forever‘ way back in 2005 for Pink Cream 69 singer David Readman’s solo album. His label pushed him in a more AOR direction, so I always kept this one on the back burner - ‘Sign Of The Cross‘ came from the same session. I always knew it would see the light of day and Thorsten and I reworked it and made it more in keeping with where we are today as a band. Back then, I had just read Dan Brown’s brilliant novel ‘Angels & Demons‘ and the lyrics are based around that whole story.“

EDEN'S CURSE Deliver 5th Album 'Cardinal' October 14

Artist:
Friday, October 14, 2016
Categories:
News Feed

Multinational Melodic Metal band Eden's Curse will release their fifth studio album 'Cardinal' via German Metal label AFM Records on October 14th, 2016.

Produced by Paul Logue and Thorsten Koehne, 'Cardinal' contains 12 songs with all of the usual Eden's Curse trademark melodies, hooks and riffs.

Written mainly by the band's long established writing team of bassist and founding member Paul Logue, virtuoso guitarist Thorsten Koehne and former drummer Pete Newdeck (Tainted Nation), what is immediately apparent about 'Cardinal' is that it showcases some of the group's melodic yet heaviest and most progressive moments to date.

"We took two years to write this album, because ‘Symphony Of Sin’ was such a successful album for us. We like to do things properly in this band and explore every possible opportunity to make each moment of every song the very best that it can be. We are not the type of band to just churn out songs with next to no quality control - we scrutinize every riff, lick, hook, melody, lyric and ask - can we do it better? This has been a long, hard and collaborative process that has not only produced some of the best songs we have ever written but some of the best collective performances on any Eden's Curse album to date" enthuses bassist Paul Logue.

Guitarist Thorsten Koehne added "We are known as Eden's Curse for writing some good hooks, so we can always come up with that, but one thing we wanted to do on this album was bring out the technical side of the band a little more as well as make it heavier".

'Cardinal' is the first studio album to feature drummer John Clelland (Code Of Silence), who appeared on 2015's 'Live With The Curse' double live release, and new Finnish keyboard player Christian 'Chrism' Pulkkinen (Simulacrum, Adamantra)

Opener 'Prophets Of Doom' hurtles out of the speakers with its double bass attack and strong riffing, wrapped around some huge vocal hooks and multi-layered keyboards - it's a signal of intent!

Followed hot on its heels is lead single 'Sell Your Soul' - an uplifting, upbeat and extremely catchy song featuring some wonderful guitar/synth interplay between Koehne and Chrism again topped off by the fabulous voice of Nikola Mijic.

The sensational near 7 minute epic progressive ballad 'Find My Way' is, simply put, one of the finest songs Eden's Curse has ever written. With it's sonic layers and huge dynamic landscapes, it’s candy for the ears on this passionate and epic track - that simply has everything! From Mijic's heartfelt vocals, Chrism's subtle piano and overblown keyboards, Logue and Clelland's thunderous rhythms, Koehne's razor sharp guitars, a wall of orchestral strings to its anthemic soar-away chorus - this song is a real tour de force!

'Unconditional' is a stunning radio friendly track featuring a duet between Mijic and former Leaves' Eyes vocalist Liv Kristine. "It's not a ballad, per se, as it rocks out in places, but it's a song very much in the same vein as 'Unbreakable', with its pop sensibilities, style and melodies. It could arguably be the most commercial sounding track we've ever written! The contrast between Liv and Nikola's voices works so well and adds a real personal touch to what is essentially a love song" declares Logue.

Liv Kristine comments "It was such a pleasure and honor working with Eden's Curse. I love this track - it's like the freshness of a sunny, really early Saturday morning. It's powerful, highly interesting and passionate. Nikola's voice is outstanding and gripping - a superb duet partner! I hope we get the chance to perform 'Unconditional' live some day".

Closing 'Cardinal' is the album’s second epic track, the near 8 minute 'Jericho', based on the biblical tale of the Battle of Jericho. A real story both lyrically and musically, it is quintessential Eden's Curse and surely destined to become a live fan favourite. "It has everything including the kitchen sink in it! I really wanted to write a long epic tune that has lots of dynamics, musically and lyrically, and could take the listener on a journey into the heartlands of the desert. This song was really great fun to write, together with Thorsten, especially the long instrumental section in the middle. I think this will be great fun to play live! It sounds like our songs 'No Holy Man' and 'Jerusalem Sleeps' marry, have a baby and name him 'Jericho'" remarks Logue.

'Cardinal' is once again superbly mixed by the band’s long time engineer Dennis Ward (Unisonic, Pink Cream 69, Krokus, Angra) with the artwork designed by another established collaborator in graphic artist Thomas Ewerhard (Edguy, Avantasia, Jorn Lande, James Labrie, MasterPlan). It is presented in a stunning triple gatefold digipak offering.

"Each Eden's Curse album has its own unique identity and 'Cardinal' is no different. Besides the old guard of Thorsten and I, the newer guys like John and Chrism have added so much to the sound. John's accurate and tasteful drumming is a real highlight on the record and Chrism could very well be the best keyboard player we have ever had. Great sounds, ideas and the interplay with Thorsten is at times breathtaking! Nikola continues to go from strength to strength as the band’s singer and proves to be a real find for us vocally and as a person. Plus the bass and the songs aren’t so bad either" laughs Logue. "The record has some absolute classics that will waltz into our live set with consummate ease. We are extremely proud of what is our biggest production to date. We love it and know our fans will too" he further adds.

Tracklisting:

01. Prophets Of Doom
02. Sell Your Soul
03. The Great Pretender
04. Messiah Complex
05. Find My Way
06. Kingdom Of Solitude
07. Utopian Dreams

09. Rome's On Fire
10. Unconditional (Featuring Liv Kristine)
11. Saints & Sinners
12. Jericho

First EDEN'S CURSE Announcement for New Album

Artist:
Categories:
News Feed

Eden's Curse are delighted to announce the participation of Liv Kristine (ex- Leaves' Eyes, Theater Of Tragedy) on their forthcoming new studio album.

It seems their collaboration was 'meant to be', as bassist Paul Logue explains: "In a meeting with our label, AFM Records we discussed the possibility of them reaching out to Liv to enquire if she would be willing to guest on a track on our album. They agreed and it was left at that. Fast forward three days later and I'm attending a party for a friend, at a pub in Glasgow, and who walks in the door - Liv! Initially, I didn't "twig" that it was her, until her Tour Manager, whom I knew, walked in a few minutes later wearing a Leaves' Eyes shirt. We shared a quick hello and he told me that Leave's Eyes were playing in the venue next door and then the penny dropped. I shared the back story of my label discussions and he made the introduction. Liv and I had a wonderful chat and we agreed to hook up via email to see if she liked the song and take it from there - thankfully she did and the rest is history. It must have been fate!".

Norwegian born Liv, a pioneer of the "beauty and beast" vocal approach adopted by so many of today's acts, has been at the forefront of the Symphonic Metal scene for well over a decade. Her trademark vocals have become synonymous with the genre through fronting one it's most iconic acts, to her own successful solo career. Yet, her collaboration with Eden's Curse, on the track 'Unconditional', will see her adopt a slightly different vocal approach.

"It's not a ballad, per se, as it rocks out in places, but it's a song very much in the same vein as 'Unbreakable' with it's pop sensibilities, style and melodies. It could arguably be the most commercial sounding track we've ever written! The contrast between Liv and Nikola's voices works so well and adds a real personal touch to what is essentially a love song. I normally don't DO love songs, but sometimes you cannot help be influenced by the special people that surround your life - whether it's your spouse, partner, friend, family or even children - your love for them is unconditional" remarks Paul.

Liv adds: "It was such a pleasure and honor working with Eden's Curse on 'Unconditional'. I love this track - it's like the freshness of a sunny, really early Saturday morning. It's powerful, highly interesting and passionate. Nikola's voice is outstanding and gripping - a superb duet partner! I met Paul during one of my tours last year and we had such a pleasant talk. I hope we get the chance to perform 'Unconditional' live some day".

"Hear, hear! It would be an absolute pleasure to share the stage with Liv and perform this live" says Paul. "Liv was a real joy to work with. She's a truly kind soul who embraced our song from the very outset and delivered a real classy performance with her instantly recognisable vocals" he adds.

'Unconditional' will appear on the forthcoming new studio album by Eden's Curse, which is set for release on AFM Records this coming Autumn. More details to follow soon.

Its double-live album heaven the past few months with career spanning sets from Van Halen, Sammy Hagar and Axel Rudi Pell all recently released.
And of course this fine little double live album from Euro-rockers Eden’s Curse.

Live With The Curse covers the band’s 4 studio albums during a 100 minute sonic blitz that simply oozes energy and is expertly mixed once again by Dennis Ward.
Naturally with new recruit Serbian born vocalist Nikola Mijic, the current set list and this live album delves heavily into the current studio album Symphony Of Sin.

Culled from that album are no less than 8 tracks, namely, Symphony Of Sin, Break The Silence, Fallen From Grace, Rock Bottom, Devil In Disguise, Wings To Fly, Unbreakable and Evil & Divine.
Naturally this is where Nikola shines, able to blow fans away with a flawless display of power and melody on Break The Silence, Wings To Fly, Fallen From Grace and, especially on the moodier, tough to sing Rock Bottom and full blast opener Symphony Of Sin.
His higher range is a great asset for the band.
The guys (and Nikolo) aren’t afraid to cover what would have to be called the band’s “classics”, tracks like Masquerade Ball, Trinity, Judgement Day, Fly Away and Jerusalem Sleeps all come across great here – these are some of the best melodic hard rock songs of the last decade, no doubt.

There’s some pumped in effects and backing vocals, but overall the performance on the night was exceptional the recording is excellent and the mix is even and balanced. So this has to be a must purchase for all fans of Eden’s Curse, new and old.
