TIM – Lost 1983 Album Feat. Thom Griffin & Bruce Gaitsch on MRC

Finally, the answer to the question – Who Is TIM? TIM were an ‘almost super-group’, at least with the benefit on hindsight they sure are. LaMARCA Remastered Reissue on MRC

MelodicRock Classics is excited to continue the limited-edition reissue series featuring four acclaimed cult classic AOR albums. CHRIS IRVINE ‘Frozen Rivers’ and 2AM ‘When Every Second Counts’ are both at press currently and will be released August 26. The second two titles arrive September 30 – LAMARCA ‘LaMarca’ from 1985 and YAYA’s classic 1988 sophomore release ‘II’. LaMarca is the brainchild of soul singer Abe Lamarca, who began his singing career in the 1970s, before moving to Los Angeles singing demos and working for songwriters before Scottie Bros/CBS Records released his debut album “LaMarca”. It was a solo endeavor that found this soul lover singing some catchy pop songs, a few of which made it to the big screen, most notably, ‘Hold on Blue Eyes’ from the movie ‘The Wraith’ starring Charlie Sheen. He devoted most of the 90’s to raising his kids in Cleveland and singing radio jingles and T.V. commercials. Abe has continued singing and writing music ever since and most recently in 2018, continuing to flex a little bit of his “Soul Survivor” swag, Abe enjoyed a Top 20 Smooth Jazz hit with Anne Cochran with ...

GALLEYBOYZ 1990 Album Arrives on MelodicRock Classics

BUY NOW: http://melodicrockclassics.com/galleyboyz.html MelodicRock Classics is excited to delve back in to rock n roll vaults once more, to deliver another lost classic, this time from Pennsylvania rockers GALLEYBOYZ. Galleyboyz were formed in early 1990 when Michael Baranski and Steve Schuffert, who were touring with A&M recording artist Glen Burtnik, found themselves out of a job when Glen was given the opportunity to replace Tommy Shaw in Styx. Baranski and Schuffert were approached by a former manager who wanted to start a new project. John Rongo and Larry Paoletta, who were in a previous band with Baranski, were ...

MelodicRock's 25th Anniversary

It has come to that time of year where I join the chorus of people wishing everyone a safe, happy and healthy holiday over the next week or two. I hope that Santa recognises the need for melodic rock goodies for everyone. Thanks to everyone that has supported MRC this year and continues to support the MelodicRock site, even though I added fewer reviews than at any point in history. In 2022, MelodicRock will be back with a focus back on delivering reviews and hopefully fitting in alongside the busy schedule I have planned for MelodicRock Classics label. I do have another reason to be thankful before signing off for the year… 2021 is the 25th Anniversary of MelodicRock! I have been far too busy to make a big deal of that fact, but I better do it now before I miss the occasion altogether. I started my first very basic site in October 1996, moving to the MR domain name in August 1998. In 2022 I will continue to celebrate surviving in the wild for this long, with a series of “Top” 25 from 25 Awards, which will no doubt be good for some debate. But right now, ...

HOUSE OF LORDS - New World, New Eyes (Review)

Once you get past the absolutely horrendous “drum” sound and the somewhat muddy mix, the new House Of Lords (or on this occasion, House Of Spiro), offers some of the band’s best tunes in several years.   A production budget would have raised the quality of this record to sit alongside some of my favourite HOL records. I love the return to a more interesting musical landscape, a touch progressive even, much like parts of Sahara and Demon’s Down.   The overall energy is similar to Demon’s Down too. But this is a different band again. As suggested earlier, the biggest influence and difference here is the genius of Mark Spiro. He has co-written most of the album, with his influence so strong there are at least 3, maybe 4 songs that are more Spiro than HOL. He is simply all over this record and his vocals can be heard on most tracks. In fact, he could feel unjustly denied a duet credits on We’re All That We Got and Better Off Broken. His influence over Change (What's it Gonna Take) delivers one of my favourite House Of Lords songs in years, The Both Of Us also impresses. &...

WAITING FOR MONDAY - Waiting For Monday (Review)

Much hype for this debut album from this Los Angeles based melodic rock band, touted as a modern equivalent to the Big 3 (Foreigner, Styx and Journey). And despite the obvious shortcomings in the album’s production quality, the opening anthem ‘Until The Dawn’ certainly gets your attention.   Unfortunately, that’s clearly the album’s best track. The guys have talent and the singer has a sure set of lungs on him, but when the album is dominated by ballads (a couple of very good ones) and the rockers fall short, the song consistency comes to light and the production issue becomes something that can’t be ignored.   I compare this more to Two Fires – a band with huge potential and great performers – who couldn’t get all elements to come together for that killer album.
