Geoff Tate, Chris DeGarmo Revisit Queensryche 'Empire' On 25th Anniversary

Artist:
Release Year:
2015

Podcasts & Radio

Dallas, TX - Oct 1, 2015.  InTheStudio.Net, the web home for North American syndicated Rock radio show InTheStudio: The Stories Behind History's Greatest Rock Bands , celebrates the 25th anniversary of Queensryhe Empire.

Coming on the heels of their breakthrough concept album Operation: Mindcrime, Queensryche delivered yet another curve ball with the release of their 1990 multi-million seller Empire.  Stretching the boundaries of Hard Rock Queensryche's timeless ballad 'Silent Lucidity' would catapult both band and song to the top of the charts, culminating with a Grammy performance in 1992 with famed orchestral arranger the late Michael Kamen.

Former co-founders Chris DeGarmo and Geoff Tate share their thoughts on the Empire era of Queensryche with InTheStudio host Redbeard.

'We just got into songs and not really the theme. We loved the theme, we were very proud of Mindcrime and loved what we did. But it was that shaking it up... wanting to go some place else. That's kinda where our heads were focusing on less is more. I remember us talking about less is more as we got into Empire, because I think Mindcrime was an excess of a lot of things, but the right amount probably for that given project. But when we entered the Empire writing stage. It was 'let's deconstruct this thing here'.  - Chris DeGarmo

Geoff Tate admits that not every Queensryche fan or music critic was prepared to let the band out of the heavy metal box.

'The box is their (the record labels) definition of you. They use it to advertise what it is you do and explain what it is you do. But as a musician, as an artist you tend to want to try to experiment with what you do. Therefore the definition of the box becomes different with each project at least for us.'   -  Geoff Tate

All Eyes and Ears On Intelligent Music Project III TOUCHING THE DIIVINE Feat. John Payne, Simon Phillips, Joseph Williams, Nathan East and Tim Pierce

Bulgaria - TOUCHING THE DIVINE is the third studio album from Intelligent Music Project and the second all-star line-up, creating a remarkable infusion by its author and producer's musically erudite and unconventional style, and the full creative input of the legendary musicians. The production features session aces Simon Phillips (drums and percussion), Nathan East (bass) & Tim Pierce (guitars), and the remarkable voices of John Payne (ex-Asia) and Toto`s Joseph Williams, who bring their own flavor to all 14 equally outstanding pieces in the album.

Intelligent Music Project III is showcasing the chemistry and versatile style that went into IMP II - rich and layered, guitar-centric, melodic-progressive sound. Catchy tunes, and dynamic riffs melt flawlessly with Payne's and Williams’ trademark vocals while the immaculate Phillips – Pierce East stamp their blueprint on the recorrd all the way through.

The band's overall musicianship blends impressively with the complexity of musical arrangements, including unforgettable symphonic expansions. Matching the classic rock energy and instrumental charge with his lyrical patterns, rapt and diverse music theme development is the signature style that propels this all-star project of Milen Vrabevski, author and producer of TOUCHING THE DIVINE.

Stand out tracks:
Bursting out with track 1. “Opening (Cool inside)” - sounds like introductory rhapsody, seamlessly blending the exceptionally tasteful instrumental part into Joseph Williams' illustrative singing.

The pilot single “Sky” is a melodic, hard rocking piece, propelled by powerful guitar riffs and Joseph Williams' gently hitting vocals, scored by uncompromising guitar virtuosity.

“Escape” feat. John Payne's evocative timbre is a timeless rock ballad immediately reaching to the charts.

From the soul retriever “We Can” sung by John, through Joe's passion “Life” and the duet “Stay Up” (John & Joe) to the key tracks “Simply Feels Good” (featuring lead and backing vocals by John Payne, Joseph Williams and Carl Sentence, recently appointed as Nazareth's lead singer) and “Mind Projection” Intelligent Music Project III marks its producer s determination to make one solid addition to the AOR classics of all times.

Says Simon Phillips, “It's really interesting to do a second project with Milen. In this new project 'Touching the Divine', musically the composition has developed, it's developed from the first record... and that's good to see.”

Says Tim Pierce, “This project is great, because it's very, very challenging and musical, in a way like Queen is musical... and it's got all of these layers and colors. Musically it's very fun, because it travels a lot of different places.”

Says Joseph Williams, “It's wonderful to explore working with Milen. The project has a wonderful message, accompanied with some beautiful music and some great rock 'n' roll the musicians in this projject are top 'noch.”

Says Nathan East, “This project is very special to me, because of the nature of the message of the project. I was very inspired and happy with the idea, because the message has value and meaning and I am about that. The word 'inspirational' is what I use to describe this project.”

Says Carl Sentence “There is a lot of music and a sense of depth in Milen's songs. They are not ordinary. They are very beautiful andd the way these songs are composed is very, very good.”

Says John Payne, “It's incredible opportunity to work with such great people Nathan East, Tim Pierce Wonderful songs – my favorite so far is 'Mind Projection', but there are a lot of great songs, a lot of great melodies and some great playing. You've got some world class players Simon, Tim, Nathan Eastand Jo Joseph Williams singin', I mean he is amazing!”

Says Milen Vrabevski, “This is a super band, which every producer would be happy to work with, and it gave a very good finish to our Intelligent Music Project, in this case number III. I was enormouslyy fortunate to be the author and producer of the whole project. The idea we want to share with the audience through this album is simple – we must find the Divine within ourselves in order to become the successful individual we want to be. We try to show how to do that.”

SERPENTINE SKY More Audio Samples From Debut Album

Release Year:
2015

MelodicRock Records is really excited to have SERPENTINE SKY join the label roster, with their self-titled debut album due for release October 30.

Slight delay - Pre-orders for SERPENTINE SKY and MRCD13 will be available MONDAY! But first....here's some fresh audio samples:

Now here are a few more!

Owner of MRR, Andrew McNeice recalls owning a relic of the band’s early days. “When Zakk sent me their album to check out, I only needed seconds to realize the anthemic lead track Whole Lotta Love has been a part of my collection in the form of a 2 track promo-cassette from the early 90s. I had always loved that song and wanted to hear more. Better late than never! This is a classic melodic rock album with a strong dose of Aussie attitude and a very slick, energetic production.”

“Serpentine Sky” will be released in a 10 track regular edition as well as a limited Special Edition which will contain several bonus tracks which will be announced soon.

Right now I can’t wait to present one of the great tracks off this album. But which one?
How about something different? How about the closing track?
That’s right – this album is so consistently good, we can go right to the end to present a highlight from the set. Don’t you love albums that close out with that absolute killer song that once finished makes you just want to hit play and start over again?

With that in mind, please check out SERPENTINE SKY and “Midnight”:

STRYPER - Fallen (Track By Track)

Artist:
Release Year:
2015

The effervescent STRYPER continue the wild ride their recent career has given fans with a new studio album Fallen.
And what an album it is.

Here is a Track By Track run down of what to expect:

Yahweh is an absolute belter to open the account. Big riffs, bigger vocals and a stomping heavy beat driving this soaring semi-progressive hard rocker.

Fallen seems to take the foot off the pedal after a ferocious intro. But the mid-tempo groove gives way to another big catchy chorus with Michael Sweet singing like man possessed (in the good sense!)

Pride is another thumping rock track with a solid groove and a screaming chorus.

Big Screen Lies is the catchiest chorus of the album thus far. It rolls along nicely, a little less intense than the opening metal salvo.

Heaven has a slow to mid-tempo beat, but a very melodic guitar hook and chorus. A good mid-album circuit breaker.

Love You Like I Do is a cool melodic mid-tempo commercial rocker with a great hook and a tasty guitar solo that takes me back to the golden era of melodic hard rock.

All Over Again is the first ballad of the album and sees the acoustic guitars dusted off to help create a stirring commercial rock ballad.

After Forever rocks hard and fast and thumps along at a great rate before slotting into a bluesy groove and back again. This is heavy, aggressive, raw rock n roll with a really cool vocal.

Till I Get What I Need follows a similar path – fast, free flowing and rocking hard, and again with that groove! Great little chorus with some harmony vocals making even better.

Let There Be Light is a slow, moody hard rocker that launches into a faster, harmony filled chorus that makes the track another highlight.

The Calling is simply put – a short, sharp, commercial hard rocker with definite appeal.

King Of Kings closes the album with another hard edged thumping rock track. The chorus is one of the best of the album, ending this 50 minute sonic blast with a bang.

Great stuff Styper!
