INTRODUCING SECOND HAND LIFE FROM JOE LYNN TURNER:
Frontiers Records is excited to present Joe Lynn Turner's new studio album Second Hand Life scheduled for release in Europe on April 20!
In a career that spans nearly 30 years and includes over 50 album credits, Joe Lynn Turner ("JLT") remains one of rock and roll's most distinctive, soulful and expressive vocalists. His credits include Fandango, Rainbow, Yngwie Malmsteen, Deep Purple and more recently Mother's Army and his successful cooperation with Glenn Hughes on the Hughes / Turner Project albums.
Second Hand Life is Turner's new studio album, his tenth solo release. This time Joe wanted to go straight back to his melodic rock roots. Therefore, he worked on the songwriting with such luminaries as Jim Peterik (Survivor, Pride Of Lions), Bob Held, Karl Cochran and Martin Briley. He also managed to include a track that he co-wrote with Ritchie Blackmore, Jim Peterik and Roger Glover entitled Stroke of Midnight.
The players on the new disc include longtime collaborators Karl Cochran (Ace Frehley) on guitar and bass, Bob Held on bass, Gary Corbett on keyboards and former Damn Yankees - now with Lynyrd Skynyrd - drummer Michael Cartellone.
In Joe's words: "I would describe the new album as a hybrid between The Usual Suspects and Sunstorm, my recent studio project which received more positive reviews than any of my solo CDs since Rescue You. I felt that the fans wanted to hear more music in this melodic rock vein. So... I think we delivered on this forthcoming album."
Track listing on Second Hand Life includes the following songs: Love is Life; Got Me Where You Want Me; Second Hand Life; In Your Eyes; Blood Red Sky; Stroke of Midnight; Over the Top; Cruel; Sweet Obsession; Love Is On Our Side; Two Lights (European exclusive bonus track).

TOTO - LELAND SKLAR TO SIT IN FOR MIKE PORCARO:
Press Release / Any fan who attended Toto shows over the last year noticed that Mike Porcaro had toured after having sustained a very painful injury to his left hand. Despite the fact that it was difficult, Mike persevered and played each and every date of the first leg of the Falling In Between Tour. After returning home, Mike sought medical treatment and has been recovering nicely; however, he has not been able to recuperate in time to join the band on the upcoming tour.
"I was hoping that the situation would be better by now," Mike states, "but it hasn't improved. It's gonna take a while. I'm working on it, and I hope to be back in the saddle soon enough. But, unfortunately, I'm not going to be able to make this upcoming run. Nobody feels worse about it than me, but that's the reality of it."
Despite the short notice, Toto have recruited one of the best bass players around to substitute for Mike: acclaimed session musician and life-long friend Leland (Lee) Sklar.
"Those of you on the Toto Network have seen Lee; he's a big part of the Network and what we're trying to do there with the web. He's going to play bass and you're going to love it. You're in great hands," says Mike, and jokes, "Come on down and see him play and see a real bass player."
Sklar, a renowned player whose credits include James Taylor, Hall & Oates, Jackson Browne, Phil Collins, Clint Black, Reba McEntire, and George Strait, is looking forward to playing with his long-time friends in Toto. He will be filling in for Mike on all of the upcoming Toto tour dates so that Mike has the time to fully recover. "I hope to see you all soon," says Mike. "I'm sorry that this is the way it is, but this is life and I'll hopefully be back really soon. So God bless and enjoy the upcoming tour!"
Mike recorded a special video message apologizing for not being able to do the tour and introducing Lee to the fans: www.toto99.com/multimedia/videos/mike.shtml.
Lee Sklar has been a prominent figure among studio/touring bassists dating back to 1970. Sklar has more than 2000 albums to his credit (and still counting), and is considered to be one of the "A" players in the highly selective L.A. rock music community where the competition for recording dates is fierce, and where only the strongest will survive. His very recognizable bass playing style, along with his beard, have been heard on hits by Phil Collins, Billy Cobham, Rod Stewart, Linda Ronstadt, James Taylor, Hall & Oates, Jackson Browne, Tommy Bolin, David Bowie, Ray Charles, BB King, The Doors, Peter Frampton, Aaron Neville, Lyle Lovett, to name just a few.
The reputation of a fine session player is not held exclusively to the record industry. Television and motion picture musical directors have called upon Sklar for his expertise countless times. He has played on TV shows such as Hill Street Blues, Rockford Files, LA Law, Knight Rider, Simon and Simon, and also on many motion pictures, including Forrest Gump, Ghost, Kindergarten Cop, and My Best Friend's Wedding.
It was during the 70s that Lee started working with Jeff Porcaro and did countless albums with him and also started recording with Steve Lukather when Steve was around 19 years old.

FIRST INSIGHT INTO THE NEW DREAM THEATER ALBUM!:
One of the companies I work closely with is re-issue label Rock Candy Records. The label is run by the legendary journalist and A&R duo of Derek Oliver & Dante Bonutto, who are also now working in conjunction with Roadrunner Records to bring new releases from classic bands to the market place.
Their first signing is Dream Theater, as announced a month or so ago. Of course the guys are very familiar with the band, having signed them to Elektra all those years ago.
Dream Theater have just turned in their new album Systematic Chaos to their label, and Derek Oliver was kind enough to forward me his thoughts on the album after living with it for a while and gave me the ok to run this as your exclusive first look into the album from someone who has a long and lasting passion for the band.
Says Derek:
"Systematic Chaos is pretty full-on. You'll all be very surprised. It's undoubtedly the best record that they've recorded in many years - very accessible, very heavy and very melodic. They've managed to combine a sense of the past with the future and, unlike Rush, haven't dumped their glorious past in favour of annoying skinny tie affectations or garage rock pretence.
There are two absolutely killer tracks, Constant Motion and The Dark Eternal Night, the former is like Metallica with keyboards and the latter showcases the most intense and heavy musicianship that they've ever recorded - think Pantera jamming with Iron Maiden. Those tracks will be regarded as master classes in progressive metal for years to come. And they both boast lashings of melody.
The most accessible track is titled Forsaken, a blindingly obvious radio song that mixes contemporary modern rock ala Evanescence with the old school power balladry of Queensryche's Silent Lucidity whilst still packing a progressive rock punch. Do I smell a potential radio smash? Quite possibly.
Surprise contenders for classic status include Repentance, a brooding 10 minute creepy crawler that seeps its way into one's inner psyche from the first few seconds of playback. The impact of this track is enhanced by an abundance of unexpected spoken word contributions from a number of well known musicians. I won't spoil it by revealing exactly who they are as its a lot of fun trying to decipher for yourself. Musically think Pink Floyd duetting with Metallica on a decidedly trippy space rock epic.
The other major surprise is Prophet's Of War a magnetic and compelling six minute romp that appears to be a combination of electro pop and classic arena metal and it works brilliantly. Imagine walking into a Berlin discotechque at 2 in the morning with 2,000 nutters jumping up and down to a wild electro mash-up of the Prodigy, Queen, Robbie Williams, Metallica and Ramstein whilst Dita Von Teese dances in a cage.
Trad DT faire is offered up with The Ministry Of Lost Souls. Initially a piano driven ballad which builds into a colossal prog rock hoedown allowing Jordan Rudess to utilise every keyboard that he's acquired through the ages amongst a cacophony of wild jamming. Once the battle has been won, its all back to the main theme for a piping hot cup of cocoa and bed.
The 25 minute epic In The Presence Of Enemies is indeed a pleasure to experience. Split into two parts, which bookend the album, the vibe here is dark and distant. The song is driven by a particularly impressive bass riff and a full, open chorus with evil lyrics delivered convincingly by a more assured and focussed James LaBrie. Then, in the blink of an eye, it all kicks off as Portnoy jumps in with double kick drums thumping at an alarming speed and its heads down for the final push with swords, guitars, knives and keyboards re-enacting the Charge Of The Light Brigade.
Man of the match? Impossible to say as all of them are at the top of their game on this one. Portnoy? Well, he's just being Portnoy - crucially the most accomplished drummer of modern times.
Petrucci? He's off his head on virtually every track delivering the heaviest riffs this side of Black Sabbath and the fastest most precise plank spanking I've ever heard.
Myung? The guys doesn't have much to say for himself in interviews but his playing on this record speaks a thousand words.
Rudess? Possibly the bastard child of Keith Emerson and Rachmaninov. His playing is historic and, understandably, quite perplexing.
LaBrie? I have great pleasure in announcing that he, out of them all, has risen most magnificently to the challenge. Its clear that he's taking this particular moment in the bands career to up his game considerably, approaching each track with an intelligence that belies his previous output. By adapting his delivery to suit the mood of each song this fine fellow has breathed new life into an old frame. A great and significant accomplishment.
I came away from this album thinking that - and I'm not taking a pot shot here - if Iron Maiden and Metallica were currently writing and performing to this level of excellence then the world of rock would indeed be a far better place."
RIP BILLY THORPE – AUSTRALIA'S PREMIERE ROCK LEGEND AND CONSUMMATE ROCK N ROLLER:
Australian vocalist/guitarist/rocker/legend Billy Thorpe died overnight Oz time after suffering a massive heart attack. Billy was only 60 and was still touring regularly. I had the great pleasure of seeing Billy live 2 or 3 times now, last time being as support for Alice Cooper a year or so ago.
A true rock legend and as Billy Thorpe & The Aztecs, he was the pioneer of the Oz Pub Rock scene, which as those that have followed this scene closely, will know how important his roll was in shaping this countries musical heritage. R.I.P. Billy.
One of the many local reports circulating today about Billy' untimely death and one of the best can be seen here: www.theage.com.au.

Milan Polak set to release first vocal album Straight on April 20 - After 2 hugely successful instrumental albums in Dreamscapes and Guitar Odyssey, Austrian guitar virtuoso Milan Polak returns with his first solo vocal album entitled Straight. The album is powered by 13 rocking tracks that not only showcase Milan's guitar prowess but also his great bluesy vocals backed by a killer band of Randy Coven (bass, ex Malmsteen, Ark, MCM), John Macaluso (drums, ex Malmsteen, Ark, John Macaluso & Union Radio) and Fabio Trentini (bass).
On the new album Milan comments: "Straight stands for the whole concept of this album. One day I sat down and thought about a single word that could perfectly describe me & my music and I found it in 'straight'. The term 'straight' has a lot of different meanings and they all apply to my personality, my lyrics, my music and my attitude. It stands for the way this album looks, sounds and was produced - no FX, no BS. What you see & hear is what you get - 100% Milan. Enjoy!"
On the change of direction, "I had started to realize that playing instrumental guitar music only offers limited possibilities, so I decided to take a step into another direction and write songs with lyrics & vocals to reach a wider audience". Fans of Milan's guitar work will not find any lack of fret board prowess but the addition of vocals gives a more balanced packaged.
Tracks: 01. Difference 02. Psychobitch 03. Crosses 04. Hero 05. Favorite Vice 06. Some Kind Of Jesus 07. All I Want 08. Superstar Mania 09. Straight 10. Happy Now? 11. I Don't Care 12. Free After All 13. The Glowing Of A Cigarette.

NO MORE HAPPY ENDING FOR REO SPEEDWAGON:
More REO Speedwagon news. In a last minute twist to the story of this new album - it has a new title and new artwork will be revealed in the next day or two. Frontman Kevin Cronin updated his web-journal with this update and explanation of the title change:
"Okay, it is official, we have lost our minds. We have been here at Blue Moon 24/7 ever since we got home from the Super Bowl gig. We are putting the finishing touches on the Unplugged DVD to be included in the first run, three disc box set. It has turned into another very special project for us.
Getting back to having lost our minds...This past Friday it hit me that the album title and the artwork, which had been chosen for the new CD, was all wrong, and needed to be rethought. Keep in mind that we have to meet our final deadline of tomorrow!
The whole upside down bird thing, and Everyone Loves A Happy Ending, just never caught on. They didn't really represent this music and these songs well enough. It was just never quite right. So it needed to change. Yikes! Not much time to make all of that happen.
But we have done it.
This album is all about our journey over the past four years. It is about facing challenges, taking responsibility for our own choices, not taking the easy way out, (and having fun through it all).
Duuhh...the title of this album was meant to be Find Your Own Way Home, and so it will be. The new artwork is almost ready...and we all love it. Too many of us were not satisfied with the dead bird/rainbow thing. It was the only aspect of the project that we were not united on.
Now we are in synch, the Brotherhood is one.
So forget "Everyone Loves A Happy Ending", that was simply a working title. Forget sleeping birds and rainbows. Within the next few days the artwork for Find Your Own Way Home will be posted on this site, as well as at speedwagon.com.
We have indeed finally found our own way home. It has been quite a trip, and we will be ready to share it with you guys real soon.
Find Your Own Way Home will be available at Wal Mart on April 3.
Keep Pushin', KC."
In additional news, I'm told the band will be releasing 2 singles to radio stations beginning on March 19. Smilin' In The End to Classic Rock and Rock stations, and I Needed To Fall to AC and Hot AC, as well as rock stations. The band has just started the process of making a video for I Needed To Fall.
VAN HALEN - MICHEL ANTHONY & SAMMY HAGAR UPDATES:
Former Van Halen bassist (I still hate typing that...) Michael Anthony has updated his web-blog with the following post: "Hey everyone! I thought I would post a little update as to what I've been up to. Last Fri. one of my dreams came true as I got to jam with three fantastic guitar players, Jeff Beck, Billy Gibbons and Jimmy Vaughn! It was for an event here in L.A. at the Peterson Automotive Museum, celebrating the 75th anniversary of the '32 Ford. I'll have pictures and a write up all about the event on my site hopefully this week.
In the meantime you can also see a couple of shots on Jeff's web site: www.jeffbeck.com.
On Sun. I surprised Sammy at the NASCAR race, where he played a few songs before the race. I jumped up to sing a little on I Can't Drive 55, which was televised before the start of the race. Next I'm looking forward to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction on Mar. 12, then I will fly down to Puerto Vallerto to meet the cruise ship to jam with Sam's band (TheWabos).
We are working on a few older VH songs, and I'll be handling all the lead vocals...watch out Hagar!! I'm looking forward to bashing it up a bit with all of you on the cruise! Check out my website for all the info, and I'll be talking to all of you real soon....Michael."
In related news - a new Sammy Hagar interview can be found at: www.bestofwny.com/nightlife. Here is a short excerpt:
Sammy- We kind of new about the induction a few days before the official announcement, when word came down I called Alex VH and congratulated him. We had a great conversation and shared a few laughs; I love the guys and the time we shared together.
After talking with Alex I got the feeling that he would like to jam at the awards ceremony too, but we all agreed that the chemistry has to be right.
Ross CAT- You've proven that you can pretty much share the stage with just about anyone when you toured with David Lee Roth, would you ever consider doing so again with a full Van Halen lineup?
Sammy- I would be open to it. That being said there would also be a lot of apprehension after the last reunion. I would certainly do it if it could be presented properly, if we are all there for the right reasons, most importantly check the egos at the door. If I knew if would be about the music and the fans I would definitely be in.
Ross CAT- One of the coolest parts of the HOF ceremonies is the presentation of the band, any word on who might be presenting Van Halen?
Sammy- From what I've heard from management they are going to ask the Red Hot Chili Peppers to present us. For me personally that would be awesome they are truly one of my favorite bands in the world.
Coincidentally Peppers drummer Chad Smith has been jamming with Michael and me down here at the Cantina the past week or so. It's been a blast; we've been calling ourselves ChickenFoot, doing the power trio thing. We might even have a little fun with that and do some recording together down the road.
Hopefully that all works itself out with the powers that be, that would be one helluva jam session with Van Halen and the Red Hot Chili Peppers tearing up the same stage.

INTRODUCING UPSIDE AND DIVEBOMB RECORDS:
Denton, TX rock act UPSIDE have officially joined the Tribunal Records family. Their debut release Jim Beam and the American Dream hits the streets April 10.
Upside has built rabid following across Midwest and Texas during the past three years through constant touring, commercial and college radio airplay, grassroots street teams, mad hacker skills and chaotic, whiskey-soaked rock shows. Their previous two DIY releases Scope Of History and High Heels And Hand Grenades released in 2003 and 2004 respectively, have sold in excess of 5,000 units. Upside are now regularly headlining and supporting sold out shows at the region's top club level venues (300-1000 capacity) with plans to tour the entire country in 2007. Having supported such diverse acts like Velvet Revolver, He Is Legend, Glassjaw, Blue October and Bowling For Soup, Upside's buzz, grows every day.
Their eagerly and highly-anticipated new album, Jim Beam and the American Dream (produced by Danny Grady of Injected) is the first and only recording that falls under the rock genre Upside humbly created for themselves "Texas Party Metal". Jim Beam and the American Dream is chock full of undeniable hooks, foot stomping/head banging rhythms and riffs so massive you cannot help but heave your horns towards the sky in thanks to the almighty god of rock. And just in case you were wondering Upside hates bands that wear eye shadow and carry journals, reality television and women's basketball. They love whiskey, Texas, their Chevy van, and starting fights with Bright Eyes fans. Fear not, rock-n-roll is alive and well in the heart of Texas!
For Fans Of Motley Crue, Led Zeppelin, Stone Temple Pilots and AC/DC.
To preview tracks, check out the cover art and learn more about the band head to: www.myspace.com/upside and www.tribunalrecords.net/index1b.html.
Speaking of Tribunal Records, a new label has been developed under the umbrella of the label. Divebomb Records is a subdivision of Tribunal Records and focusing on re-issuing classic and out of print 80s/90s hard rock metal.
Any interested band seeking to get their release back out into circulation with solid distribution can contact the label at: TribunalRecords@aol.com.

KEITH LuBRANT SEARCHES FOR A SIGNAL ON NEW ALBUM:
Singer/songwriter Keith LuBrant has released his second album, Searching For Signal, on the Kool Kat Musik label. Recorded over two years full of highs and lows, Searching For Signal shows LuBrant's dedication to songwriting, evident in the integrity and detail that go into the crafting and production of this album.
Searching For Signal follows LuBrant's debut album, Face In The Crowd, an album that was described in one review as "having absolutely no filler material." All the usual hooks are present, but some songs have taken a new musical direction.
"I knew I wanted to experiment with different styles and instrumentation very early in the songwriting stage for this project. I needed to explore a little more, dig a little deeper. I did not feel the need to recreate my previous album."
John Borack (Goldmine, Amplifier) summarizes Searching For Signal best by saying, "Whether you're dialing up the spirited, power pop-styled numbers or the more reflective, introspective tunes, everything on Keith LuBrant's Searching For Signal goes down smooth and easy."
In addition to the album, Keith has added a nice bonus with your purchase. An unlock code can be found inside the liner notes that allows access to more material online . You can instantly download unreleased songs from the Searching For Signal sessions, a documentary on the recording, rare unreleased demos, radio broadcasts, pictures, and more.

THE LEHIGH VALLEY ROCKS!:
Press Release / From a music scene that has spawned past and present musicians of such worldwide known and platinum selling acts such as Fuel, Megadeth, Mr. Big, Poison, Lynch Mob, Suicidal Tendencies, Alice Cooper, Stone Sour, Seether, and even Michael Jackson and Justin Timberlake comes the release of a very special double disc release! The Lehigh Valley area of Pennsylvania (Allentown/Bethlehem/Easton) has always been a breeding ground for extremely talented musicians. Musicians such as Jimmy Degrasso, Greg Howe, Richie Kotzen, Kevin Miller, Robert Mason and Roy Mayorga all got their start gracing the stages of the Lehigh Valley area's clubs. And while these musicians went onto varying degrees of success, the collective bands from the Lehigh Valley have long been a "forgotten stepchild" to the often fickle music business.
December 19, 2006 marked the CD release of The Lehigh Valley Rocks!! The Best of 1984-1994 that pays tribute to some of the Lehigh Valley's greatest bands in the hard rock and heavy metal genre from that era. Without a doubt, the area's music scene was especially vibrant and had an exorbitance of talent during these years. Many bands from around the country, that were far less talented than some of the Lehigh Valley talent, were thrown into the national spotlight while the musicians and bands of the area were often overlooked. "Give credit where credit is due" is what is often said, and with this CD, we do just that! The musicians and bands of the Lehigh Valley area, without question, deserve that!
This double CD release features 30 songs from 27 past AND present Lehigh Valley area bands. All styles of hard rock and heavy metal are covered on the disc. From AOR friendly hard rock, to glam, to progressive metal, and even power metal and thrash it's all here! Some bands on the disc released music available internationally such as Teeze, Leviathen, Dirty Blonde and Vicious Barreka. Others such as Washed, The Mob and Destroyer were included on compilations released in the United States, some that included the likes of bands such as the Bulletboys, Winger and Kix.
An enthusiastic "buzz" about the project has been generated already through the internet, radio and print media. Also to mention is that this CD is only "Phase 1" of our project. Currently, we are hard at work on an upcoming documentary style movie on the Lehigh Valley hard rock/metal scene from this time frame! A projected late Spring of 2007 release date is expected for this.
We ask that you take the time to check out our MySpace page and webpage that we have set up for the project. Our goal with these releases is a simple one, to let all those that come in contact with them, that without a shadow of a doubt, then, now and always, The Lehigh Valley Rocks!!

KRUCIBLE TO BRING THEIR PROGRESSIVE ASSAULT TO TEXAS MADFEST:
Houston progressive metal act Krucible is confirmed to take part in Houston's Texas Madfest. This will mark one of the first live appearances of the band's new lineup, which now includes renowned vocal legend Lance King.
"We're so excited to have Lance in Krucible now, I can't even describe it" states Shane DuBose, the band's bassist. Shane, who has previously been in established metal acts such as Outworld, Stride and Cea Serin has known Lance for a while and sees him as the perfect frontman for Krucible. "We all are big fans of Lance's previous work on his projects and having him in the band means the world to us," he adds.
Lance King has been the voice in many bands, progressive and power alike. His previous work with acts such as Avian, Balance of Power, Pyramaze and many others has gained stellar reviews from respected publications around the world, RockHard and BWBK included. "I've known Eric and Shane since the days of ZLOTZ, and I love the stuff they did with Chris Salinas (Zero Hour). It'll be great to record those old songs and write new material alongside the band," says Lance. "At Madfest we'll be doing both old and new Krucible material and we're planning a very special surprise that everyone will love."
Krucible is in the process of composing new material that should be performed in the upcoming shows in the summer, followed by tentative recording sessions of their album. The band plans to have their debut released by early to mid 2008. "Our new material is much more mature than before, heavier and a little more proggy. I'm sure Lance will contribute to make the songs the best we've written yet," explains Shane DuBose regarding the direction of Krucible's new material.
Texas Madfest is schedule to take place on July 13-14, 2007 at club FBI in Houston. To check out samples from the confirmed bands as well as other info on the festival, visit www.myspace.com/madfest and www.myspace.com/krucible.
APRIL WINE STILL ROCKING:
Press Release / Canadian rock legends April Wine continue their Electric Adventure in 2007. A new studio album (16th studio release) Roughly Speaking was released in late 2006, that finds the band exploring various styles – blues, Beatlesque power pop, and the boogie rock they've always been known for. The album was recorded in pure analog – 2" tape, 24 track recording with no digital equipment during the entire process – roughly speaking, it's April Wine exploring some different styles but a real breath of fresh air and an interesting effort.
April Wine are Myles Goodwyn (guitars, keys, lead vocals), Brian Greenway (guitars, vocals) and Gerry Mercer (drums, vocals). Longtime bassist Jim Clench has decided to call it a day and he's been replaced by ex-Offenbach star Breen LeBoeuf. Preliminary reports are more than positive as Breen has brought not only new life to April Wine, but outstanding musicianship and impressive vocal ability. All reports are that the bands current live shows are getting solid reviews.
Roughly Speaking tracks: Saw Someone, I've Had Enough For Now, Night Life (Willie Nelson), Sheila, You Don't Even Know, I Am I Am, Life Goes, If You're Coming.
