LION MUSIC'S OCTOBER RELEASES:
Lion Music have announced details of its planned October releases, all due out on the 10th of next month. Details are as follows, showcases due shortly:
Tomorrow's Eve - Tales From Serpentia - Since finding a stable home on Lion Music in 2006 with "Mirror Of Creation II - Genesis 2". German's based metallers Tomorrow's Eve have gone from strength to strength thanks to the exceptionally high and original quality of their music coupled with an ultra-powerful live show that has been impressing audiences across Europe over the last 2 years.
Now, Tomorrow's Eve are back again with a powerhouse of an album. "Tales From Serpentia", a collage of short stories, written by a twisted mind; dark and dreadful fictions from the abyss. Musically Tomorrow's Eve still performs progressive metal, but with an emphasis on catchy melodic vocal lines and heavy riffs. The band plays complex but always accessible songs, holding interesting details to discover over repeated listens. In short: very dark, very melodic, and very accessible.
Track Listing: 01. Nightfall 02. The Years Ahead 03. Dream Diary 04. No Harm 05. Remember 06. Succubus 07. Warning 08. The Curse 09. The Tower 10. Faces 11. Muse.
Muscians: Martin LeMar – vocals, Rainer Grund – guitars, Oliver Schwickert – keys, Chris Doerr – bass, Tom Diener – drums.

Shadrane - Temporal - Shadrane is the metal/progressive band-project of Vivien Lalu (Lalu, Hubi Meisel), Joop Wolters (Dutch guitar virtuoso) and the legendary brothers rhythm section of Matt and Gregg Bissonette (Joe Satriani, Steve Vai etc). From a vocal perspective Shadrane makes use of different singers, according to the tracks needs with vocals coming from Göran Edman (ex-Yngwie Malmsteen, Street Talk, Brazen Abbot), Björn Jansson (Tears Of Anger, Ride The Sky, Beyond Twilight) and Henrik Båth (Darkwater) along with some backing vocals from Martin LeMar (Tomorrow's Eve). Musically "Temporal" is a blend of prog-metal (Temporal, She Writes), power-metal (Betrayal, Morpheus) and more pop driven rock (Rainy, Consider It) - yet Shadrane's own personality shines through all the compositions. Lyrically the tracks don't follow the story's order; yet the songs are inspired by the concept/story, but they're not telling every event in chronological order like a movie would do.
On the album Vivien comments, "I've always been influenced by dramatic movies and orchestral scores in general. I would make a movie out of the story if I could. I was inspired by my grandparents' tragic life when I wrote it. I wanted to write an album about the stupidity of war, but also love, grief, mourning and redemption. I believe that nothing last forever, that "everything is temporal". Not too happy, I admit, the complete opposite of my debut "Oniric Metal" (released under the Lalu moniker) where I stated that "love is eternal". I have a totally different state of mind today, than the day when I started to write the concept/music. Many people around me (both family and friends) have died during the making of the album and while there were bad times for my wife and I, it made my brain work a lot. Fortunately, there was also the birth of my daughter which happened during the production, so I "brainstormed" even more. I guess all these things influenced the compositions and the story writing (in many ways)".
Track Listing: 01. Temporal, 02. Madoka, 03. Requiem For A Rose (instrumental), 04. I Remember, 05. She Writes, 06. Rainy, 07. Lanterns Dance, 08. Betrayal (instrumental), 09. Morpheus, 10. Consider It, 11. Manzanar, 12. Babies In The Bath (instrumental), 13. Dance Of Solitude, 14. Gallery 2008.
Musicians: Vivien Lalu - Keyboards, Joop Wolters - Guitar, Matt Bisonette - Bass, Greg Bisonette - Drums, Göran Edman - Vocals, Björn Jansson - Vocals on 9,14, Henrik Båth - Vocals on 1,5, Martin LeMar - Backing vocals on 5,7, Marco Sfogli - Guest guitar solos on 1,2,5,7,11,12,13, Alex Argento - Guest keyboard solos on 1,14, Gary Wehrkamp - Guest keyboard solo on 14, Virgil Donati - Drums on 8,10,14.

O.T.R. - Mamonama - Combine two rock legends with a hot rhythm trio from Brazil and you get OTR (On The Rocks). Led by the bluesy, soulful and distinctive voice of former Uriah Heep vocalist John Lawton and the expressive fretwork of ex Focus guitarist Jan Dumee, OTR are completed by the swinging powerful Brazilian rhythm section of Ney Conceicao on Bass, Xande Figueiredo on Drums and Marvio Ciribelli on Organ, Rhodes and Piano to create "Mamonama".
OTR's debut album is home to ten tracks of classic rock coupled with some jazz influences that encapsulates various moods and expressions in an accessible package for all fans of melodic and classic rock. OTR recorded 'Mamonama' in Rio de Janeiro and the Netherlands. The mix was done in Brazil's foremost cd/dvd recording studio 'Mosh' in Sao Paulo.
Whilst traces of the classic Uriah Heep and Focus sound can be heard in the instrumentation, OTR add their own slant to the classic rock sound with a vibe that nods to the classic timeless sounds of yester year; yet all the while striving forward into the future in their delivery and outlook. "Mamonama" is five musicians getting together from different sides of the planet, having a good time, and showcasing that vibe in their music with the band focused on reaching a new audience young and old with their new music.
Track Listing: 1. Ghetto 2. Taking You Down 3. Hello (Dona Nobis Pacem) 4. The Corner Club 5. Mamonama 6. Steal The Night 7. Face To Face 8. Shine 9. Woman 10. Ride On.
Musicians: John Lawton - Lead and backing vocals, Xande Figueiredo - Drums, Ney Conceicao - Bass, Marvio Ciribelli - Organ, Piano, Fender Rhodes, Jan Dumee - Accoustic & Electric guitars, Tambourine, Kalimba in Woman. Backing vocals in Shine and Face To Face.

NO U TURN FOR AOR GROUP 101 SOUTH:
Roger Scott Craig sent me an update today - news about the progress of the new 101 South CD. Roger says: "The new 101 South CD is now finished and you can steer the fans to my new MySpace site where they can hear the new track When You're In Love with the talents of Gregory Lynn Hall on vocals and one amazing guitar solo by none other than my favourite guitarist in the world, Ian Bairnson (Alan Parsons Project), check it out - it is unbelievable."
The link is: profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=415117287.
And Roger continues: "It is now confirmed that Ian and I will be combining our talents in a new musical venture called Project X (which uses the 'Project' part from Ian's career with the APP band and the X is from my band in the 70s, Liverpool EXpress."
Accompanying Press Release / Roger Scott Craig has had considerable success writing music for TV and radio, video and for many well known movies. He has written songs for many bands including Liverpool Express in the 70s (with hit records in more than thirty countries), Fortune in the 80s (hit song 'Stacy'), Harlan Cage in the 90s and more recently 101 South. He has had music in movies such as The Pelican Brief, Wyatt Earp and Richie Rich and scored many TV commercials for AT&T, New York Life, Pacific Life, NAB and many others. His music for the 'Harry and Louise' TV campaign became famous and won the Pollie award in 1993. He has toured with Rod Stewart, performed for Prince Charles, scored Boris Yeltsin's reelection campaign in Russia, jammed with many famous musicians from bands like Led Zeppelin and the Who, and received compliments from none other than Paul McCartney himself who recently picked the Liverpool Express song 'You are my love' as one of his personal favorites.
Roger just finished the new 101 South CD No U Turn and is now working with the amazing guitarist from the Alan Parsons Project, the wonderful Ian Bairnson. This is going to be called Project X and will be something exciting for old APP fans to look forward to in 2009. Roger is also finishing up a new R&B album which features the talents of Michael McDonald, Christopher Cross and session guitarist Tim Pierce. You can check out some of this new material at Roger's MySpace site where you can audition some of the new songs.
Roger also scored the amazing song My Life for the artist Grace Griffith and this song is about to go out to the world in the next few months. The song has one of the most unbelievable stories ever involving the late, great Eva Cassidy.
Grace has been called a singer's singer, and one keen fan of her singing was the late great Eva Cassidy. When Grace came to know Eva's work, she encouraged Blix Street to sign Eva as well, which they did. The success story which has followed has been of a magnitude rarely seen in history, especially in the European market.
HALL OF (MOSTLY) CRAP:
The 2008 Rock N Roll Hall Of Fame nominees were announced over night last night...and as usual it's another WTF? situation. Honestly...the Hall founders need to re-consider the name of this organization. Less Rock N Roll every year, yet the likes of Rush, Toto, Bon Jovi, Triumph, Journey, Kiss and many many more continue to be ignored?? Personally the HOF has been a joke for a number of years and many agree...but I still think it is insulting to those bands that perhaps do actually still give a damn.
Press / "The 1980s rap act Run DMC, along with Metallica and the Stooges are among the nine nominees for next year's hall of fame class, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation announced Monday. The other nominees are guitarist Jeff Beck, singer Wanda Jackson, Little Anthony and the Imperials, War, Bobby Womack, and disco and R&B group Chic, the only nominee back from last year's ballot. The five leading vote-getters will be announced in January and inducted April 4, 2009, in Cleveland.
The ceremony typically has been held in New York but is returning to Cleveland after more than a decade-long absence. Tickets will be made available to the public for the first time. Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five opened the door for rap at the Rock Hall as the first hip-hop act to be inducted in 2007. Now, Run-D.M.C., nominated in the first year of its eligibility, has the chance to follow on the strength of rock and rap blends such as the 1986 cover of Aerosmith's "Walk This Way" and classics like "It's Tricky" and "My Adidas.""

Rockpages.gr (Greek Web Magazine) put online an exclusive interview with Michael Schenker for the promotion of his new album In The Midst Of Beauty. Here is an excerpt of that interview where Michael Schenker talks back regarding the issue of his "unsteady character":
Rockpages.gr: I was looking at some pictures on the internet from the last gig you played in Endimburgh and you look very healthy, and up for it. The question is, in the past because of all the troubles that you had, you have been very unreliable in concerts. People weren't very happy seeing you playing live. OK?
Michael Schenker: (interrupts quite upset) I am not sure if I was the unreliable, because people don't know the whole story. Very often a concert would get cancelled because of management, or agent etc. so, I don't know what sort of rumors goes on out there but, I am sure that people don't know what really happens…
Rockpages.gr: I don't want you to take it the wrong way. I was going to say despite that people always come back to your shows to see you…
Michael Schenker: I play music from my heart, I am a honest player, and people who like my music they also know that I am that type of person, and it's a certain type of people who I attract with my playing, and they probably … you attract with your spirit some of the people with similar taste, and similar outlook in life and stuff like that. I think that I have been reliable all my life, because I've been playing rock music since I was 10 years old, and I am still doing, and I am not getting worse, I am still improving, so I think I've been very consistent in my musical ability, and I don't have to rely on other people, I only on myself. When I am relying on myself I am doing pretty good!

NOT YES SAYS JON ANDERSON:
Yes frontman Jon Anderson posted this comment online late last week - he is not happy about the band's plans to tour without him:
September 18, 2008 "Disappointed, and very Disrespected / Disappointed that, with the exception of one phone call from Alan, none of the guys have been in touch since my illness, just to find out how I am doing, and how we will foresee the future for YES. And disappointed that they were not willing to wait till 2009 when I'm fully recovered.
And I feel very disrespected, having spent most of this year creating songs and constant ideas for the band, spending time with Roger Dean creating a stage design, also working with VH1 and Sirius and XM Radio to help promote the welfare of YES.
Getting sick was not "on my radar", and I thank my own angel Janeee and my family for helping me through this difficult time, and the many well wishers, friends and fans alike, for understanding that ''things happen''. Of course I wish the guys all the best in their 'solo' work, but I just wish this could have been done in a more gentlemanly fashion. After all YES is a precious musical band. This is not YES on tour..."
