The Metal Voice: DORO PESCH - "Lemmy Saved my life..."

Release Year:

Podcasts & Radio

For Canada’s The Metal Voice (https://www.facebook.com/themetalvoice) former Anthrax singer Neil Turbin reports on Lemmy Kilmister's Funeral at the Chapel at Forest Lawn Memorial Cemetery and at the Rainbow Bar and Grill, recapping the service and memorial along with Jimmy Kay.

Speaking with Doro Pesch in regards to her fondest memory of Lemmy

"Lemmy was one of my closest friends I loved him so much I knew him from 83 on when I couldn’t even speak English."
"Lemmy Saved my life.  My Dad died and Lemmy called me one day later and he gave me so much inspiration, so much hope that I could go on and then we wrote some nice songs together and we recorded some songs together."

Speaking with Lucky Lehrer from the Circle Jerks about his favorite Lemmy story

"Circle Jerks
were opening for Motorhead in Seattle and in New York. So the Seattle show they had gotten this car and a couple of sledgehammers in front of tower records all of us were smashing up this car. Pretty much beat the car to a pulp. Philthy was there, Fast Eddie and Lemmy and all four of us. Then we made our way back to New York and we were staying at the same hotel and that was pretty insane."

JOE LYNN TURNER Responds Again

I feel it is necessary to respond to the last statement by Kotzev to protect my integrity and reputation, and give a clear explanation to the fansThis would be the last response from meto this situation.

I would like to make it clear once and for all that it was never about the money or any financial compensation. When confronted with this issue, he offered me a percentage from the sales, but I immediately declined his offer.

My problem with Kotzev is the way that I had to find out about this release and the manner in which it was done. It was released 2 weeks before it was brought to my attention by my publicist that it was advertised on the social media. Through the email, I asked him why I was never informed – his response was: “He was busy and completely forgot” Really?!

The lack of respect and consideration to me that Kotzev’sactions have shown – are unacceptable and very unprofessional. To refer to me as: “Not a Partner, but just a hired band member on a per show basis” – is outrageous! I remain to be the only live vocalist for Brazen Abbot ever! I sweated out every show trying to make something happen with the band because I truly believed in this Project. Do I deserve to be treated with such disregard after all? I hardly think it’s fair.

When questioned about the need for my approval, he assured me that he has a document that I signed almost 6 years ago. Now, according to my lawyers this document, DOES NOT serve as an instrument for any exploitation of commercial use and thereforethe legality is highly questionable and hence in no way binding to any terms. The words they used for this document was “nonsensical, vague and misleading“.  In addition, they pointed out that it was signed only by one party (myself) and the lack of Kotzev’s signature on it again questions the validity of the agreement between two parties. Kotzev admitted that he composed it himself which explains the amateurish content and structure…

After a brief conversation, I signed this document in full confidence and understanding that Kotzev’s intentions were to use this video for promotional use only in order to procure additional shows for Brazen Abbot in the future. Intentionally or not - Kotzev conveniently forgot to mention during his last interview, that NOT 1 show was procured by him since that last live performance in 2010, and the band members were LET GO by Kotzev shortly thereafter!

Kotzev assured me in his emails and stated later in his interview that this DVD “Will be sold exclusively on the BA website”. However, my fans pointed out that the DVD is being currently sold by at least 2 other websites. I find his statement to be completely false.

I think it is important to note, that in one of his recent interviews Kotzev also states a fact that I am a confirmed and committed Artist to one of his other projects in order to procure investors and increase the budget by using my name without absolutely NO knowledge or permission from me!... This is extremely disturbing and alarming to me.  In no way am committed to any projects that Kotzev is currently working on or seeking investments for and I can’t remain silent to it!

The last email to Kotzev on December 31st from my management in an effort to put all this aside stated that I give him full allowance to continue with the sales and wish him good luck in the coming year.

In return, he insisted on removing my original statement and instead post a retraction statement saying that I was wrong about the questionable legality aspect of his actions which I refused to do considering the advice and counsel I received from my lawyers. Had he contacted me prior to the release of the DVD I am sure we would have come to an amenable agreement without no problems. I stand by the fact that I should have been given a level of respect to approve and sanction the video before release because it’s the ethical thing to do between two friendly professionals.

My lawyers suggested to serve him with a Cease and Desistletter urging him to stop his activities. But I told them that this is not my true intention and would not achieve the results that Iwas hoping for and to just let it go. Life goes on.

Concerning Rated X Project… Since Kotzev decided he needed to bring it up… Our guitar player suffered a sudden stroke and only completed 7 tracks out of 11… We needed to finish the album and we had a time line to get it done. Frontiers producer already assigned an excellent German guitarist, who finished the tracks within a few days. However, I thought it would be a good opportunity for Kotzev to play the remaining tracks and his compensation would be an opportunity/association to play live with the band, which would generate income and very good visibility. I insisted in my negotiations with Frontiers and it took me a week to finally convince them to allow Kotzev to finish the album. Unfortunately, the band’s solo schedules didn’t permit the band to tour…

As a true professional, I am incensed and upset to be put in such a position. I highly value mutual respect that each and every Artist should have for each other in all their efforts to achieve success – and all I expect is the same in return.

Apologize for the lengthy response – too many issues. Thank you All for reading and trying to understand this unfortunate situation.

Sincerely,

Joe Lynn Turner

NIKOLO KOTZEV Responds to JOE LYNN TURNER on BRAZEN ABBOT

In response to Joe Lynn Turner's recent statement of disapproval of the "20 years Of Brazen Abbot" anniversary release, I would like to say the following:

I was very surprised and saddened to learn from Joe's manager/wife, that they came out to medias with a hostilestatement, which is harmful to me. This was completely uncalled for - they did not get in touch with me (as friends would do) prior to going out to medias.

Five and a half years ago the Brazen Abbot show "Live At The Amphitheatre" was filmed to be released on DVD. The whole band knew about it and upon getting paid at the end of the tour, they signed waivers, allowing me to use the video material. Joeand his manager had obviously forgotten about him signing a declaration of waiving rights, so I sent them a copy of the document. The response was - "..I am not sure I am OK with the wording in it....it is not written by a lawyer". Yes, I usually don't communicate with my band through lawyers, and not expecting any problems from the band membersback then came up with the text myself. It was clear, that everyone is OKwith this material being released and there will be no futureclaims of any kind.

Brazen Abbot is my band, and Mr. Turner was the singer in it. No one else from the band has problems with that DVD, in fact they all have been looking forward to it being released.
Of course I felt no obligation to officially notify anyone about this release, as this is my band, I have personally paid for all the Masters and own them. Mr. Turner is not a partner in Brazen Abbot - he was a singer in the band and got paid in full, upon signing the waiver. No questions asked, no observations made, all in the presence of his future manager.

I have always had a great respect for Joe, so I responded in a friendly manner, explaining, that this package is released only to mark and honor the 20th anniversary of Brazen Abbot - not for making money. In fact, there is no International record company behind it and it is available exclusively through the Brazen Abbot website, with no commercial advertising of any sort. It will sell most likely 2-300 copies and will definitely leave me with a considerable financial loss plus a bunch of unsold boxes in the cellarAfter finding out that Joe is unhappy and having pointed many times , that I want us to remain friendsin a gesture of a good will I offered him a cut of my share. Considering the minimal gain from sales, his share would have been peanuts, so his manager chose not to discuss that further.

Throughout the years I have proven my friendship towards Joe many times, I have also brought quite a lot of business to himIn return I have received no business or any income from Joe,except for one gig in my home country, where I was just the comfortable choiceIn fact, many of you may know, that recently played on almost half of the Rated X debut CD. Joe called me, being frustrated due to the unfortunate illness of the bands guitarist and asked me to help him out of the troublesome situation he was in. He offered to pay for my work himself. I played, engineered and recorded the guitar tracks, the CD was released, but I did not get paidSome changes were made to my guitar tracks without me even being asked. Never mind, I thought - maybe this will lead to something good anyway, so I said nothing. However, upon reminding his manager about these events now, her reply was:"Joe asked if you are willing to do it... In my understanding, this was the only time in many years your name finally was mentioned in all the international musical media... And Joe was happy to help you with that, just as you were happy to help us..."  One more thing - I never even received a copy of that CD. In my opinion this says a lot about where Joe and I stand.

Finally I kindly asked Joe to send a disclaimer about his statement, but he did not do it, which led to my statement here.

Love, peace and respect to all:

Nikolo Kotzev's BRAZEN ABBOT Anniversary Release Problem

Artist:
Categories:
News Feed

NIKOLO KOTZEV's planned archival BRAZEN ABBOT release has struck trouble, with vocalist for the original release JOE LYNN TURNER stating his disaproval with the idea and suggests he will seek legal advice. See below...

Here's both press releases. First, Brazen Abbot:

The 20 Years Of Brazen Abbot is an anniversary package containing a CD and a DVD. The release celebrates two decades of the bands existence, since it was founded by the Bulgarian multi-instrumentalist, composer and producer Nikolo Kotzev.

The CD contains 15 studio tracks compiled from the five studio albums released to date:

Live And Learn          - 1995
Eye Of The Storm       - 1996
Bad Religion               - 1997
Guilty As Sin              - 2003
My Resurrection         - 2007

The Live DVD was shot at a concert at the Amphitheatre in Plovdiv, Bulgaria. The DVD also contains 15 songs. True to his philosophy, Kotzev has not tempered with the live recording in post production, so there are no studio overdubs on this live production.
Kotzev has included tracks featuring almost all singers and players, who have been a part of the band.

The singers are:

Glenn Hughes
Joe Lynn Turner
Goran Edman
Thomas Vikstrom
Jorn Lande
Tony Harnell

The players are:

Nikolo Kotzev  - Guitars, violins, keyboards, percussions
Ian Haugland  - Drums
John Leven  - Bass
Mic Michaeli  - Hammond
Nelko Kolarov  - Keyboards and Hammond
Svante Henryson  - Bass
Wayne Banks  - Bass
Mattias Knutas  - Drums

The compilation is a balanced blend of "rockers" and ballads, offering many of the most memorable songs created throughout the years and will certainly be a delight for all Brazen Abbot fans.  This release can be purchased at the Brazen Abbot site:

And JOE LYNN TURNER's immediate response:

FROM JOE LYNN TURNER REGRADING RECENT NEWS ABOUT A BRAZEN ABBOT COMPILATION

Attention to all!
I have just been made aware of a “Brazen Abbot” CD/DVD 20 years compilation release. I am very saddened to learn that this “homemade bootleg” release was done without my knowledge, consent or approval. I consider this a breach of trust and fair business practice.
I am looking into the legal aspects of such release and would urge everyone not to purchase this “unauthorized” product until any and all legal points are negotiated and agreed upon.

I am shocked and disappointed at such unethical practice by Mr. Kotzev and feel this is a direct “stab in the back.” I have never seen this DVD and was not aware of the fact that Mr. Kotzev decided to release this DVD on his own without any regard or respect to me. This is unacceptable and appalling!
I will ask you all to share this information with everyone to support all true artists who still keep the integrity and standards in this crumbling music industry. Your choice is the only decision that can make a difference.
I appreciate your consideration and understanding in this matter and thank you for your continued love and support!

Sincerely,
Joe Lynn Turner

TONY HARNELL has sensationally left SKID ROW, without explination or comment from the band. Within minutes of the news breaking, speculation of both SEBASTIAN BACH's return and a possible support slot on the GUNS N ROSES tour started up.

No other information to hand, but watch this space...

Tony has just posted this update:

I was not fired from SKID ROW, I quit. Being ignored and disrespected isn't my thing. I had a great time performing with the band and singing so many great songs. I don't regret a thing! xo TH

GUNS N ROSES Reunited Lineup & Tour Announced January 6

Artist:
Release Year:
2015

Billboard has added their name and credentials to the list of sources openly discussing details of the planned Guns N Roses reunion. You can read what they have posted here: http://www.billboard.com/articles/columns/rock/6828129/guns-n-roses-reun...

Most of the article mirrors what I have previously posted here (repeated below), but I can now add that the launch date is apparently January 6. Stay tuned!

GUNS N ROSES have been the subject of continued reunion speculation for several years now, but the whispers become a roar earlier this year when guitarist Slash publicly stated that he and frontman Axl Rose had patched up differences that kept them estranged for nearly two decades.

So what is the future of what used to be rock n roll’s “most dangerous band”?

It is no great secret that a reunion is coming. The pitch has been with concert promoters for several months now, with confirmation coming from a couple of those agents that the band is looking to play select festivals in 2016 before moving onto a larger stadium tour in 2017 – to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the classic Appetite For Destruction album.

But what hasn’t been discussed however, is who exactly will be involved in the reunion. The rumors have all touted a reunion of the “classic” or “original” lineup.

But it’s not what people might have expected.

From everything I have heard from multiple trusted sources, the new Guns N Roses lineup will consist of:

Axl
Slash
Duff

With:
Richard Fortus
Frank Ferrer
Dizzy Reed

Plans are still evolving, but it appears the band is pitching a few high-profile European rock festivals and Coachella in the USA has been mentioned too.

All of this is rumoured until confirmed, but from what I’ve heard, Steven Adler, Izzy Stradlin and Matt Sorum are not going to be involved.

Stay tuned…

The World Reacts To The Death Of MOTORHEAD Icon LEMMY

Artist:

I was only away from Facebook for 30 minutes and I discovered on my return that legend, icon, rock God LEMMY had passed away. I found it amazing to see my newsfeed fill up so quickly and so totally with news of the passing of metal giant Lemmy. A tribute to his vast influence.

The Motörhead frontman has been battling ill health for a few years now and stayed true to his word and rocked until the very end.

The contribution and influence over the metal scene bares witness through the hundreds of posts already made.
I'll never forget my introduction to Lemmy via The Young Ones in the early-mid 80s. One of a kind and one louder than anyone else.

In his own iconic words, Lemmy has now finally been Killed By Death.
RIP Lemmy.

Here's how the news is being reported around the world:

And the many reactions from those in the rock community can be summed up with a few comments such as these:

Alan Frew: Sad to hear they legendary "Lemmy" of Motörhead has died. He lived the way he sang. Raw & on the edge....always.

Sean McNabb: This guy was Everything #R&R Stands for and then some!

Paul Stanley: Lemmy has passed away. Truly one of a kind. Much more to him than many knew. RIP.

Dee Snider: I love and miss you, my brother! Owe you the world! You were the real deal!

Doug Aldrich: R.I.P. Lemmy. Condolences to his family and friends.... Aside from how much he did for music, he was a nice dude...

Michael Sweet: I met #Lemmy in Germany & we talked about the bible. I'll never forget that. May god Bless Lemmy & the @myMotorhead family & fans worldwide!

Joey Kramer: RIP #Lemmy heaven is Rockin tonight

Brian May: A Horrible shock tonight.

Tony Franklin: RIP Lemmy! We hung for a little while in the early Firm days, 1984. Farewell to a true rocker. Pic: Robert Knight.

Jeff Scott Soto: Another Metal legend gone...RIP Lemmy!

And finally - the band's own official statement:

There is no easy way to say this - our mmighty, noble friend Lemmy passed away today after a short battle with an extremely aggressive cancer. He had learnt of the disease on December 26th, and was at home, sitting in front of his favorite video game from The Rainbow which had recently made it’s way down the street, with his family.

We cannot begin to express our shock and sadness, there aren’t words.

We will say more in the coming days, but for now, please play Motörhead loud, play Hawkwind loud, play Lemmy’s music LOUD.
Have a drink or few.
Share stories.
Celebrate the LIFE this lovely, wonderful man celebrated so vibrantly himself.
HE WOULD WANT EXACTLY THAT.

Mike Tramp goes back to a full band set up for his latest album Nomad, but remains in the style and the tempo of his last couple of studio releases. This is another earthy, laid back collection of poignant songs of life, love and loss, told in a way only Mike Tramp can deliver.

Of course this isn’t for all fans of White Lion, Mike has long since moved on, but those like myself that have followed Mike throughout his career will as usual find a lot to like here.
Yes, it’s sparse and relatively laid back, sprinkled with as much acoustic guitar as there is electric, but it is nice to hear the type of songs Mike writes delivered with a bit more oomph.

The tempo stays relaxed for most of the record, so it’s not one to get fired up from, but rather a reflective lyrically deep set of songs that give an insight into how Mike sees the world at large and his own personal place in it.
Highlights from the consistent record include the classic Tramp opener Give It All You Got; the organ drenched Counting The Hours; the angst filled acoustic driven Bow And Obey; the dark yet musically breezy No More and the last two tracks which are very personal and open – Live To Tell and Moving On.

If you liked the last two Tramp albums, you’ll like this. Others will have to investigate first.
