This is an odd little album. There’s virtually no recognizable sign of the MCA signed Steelheart that produced two cracking albums in the early 90s before shedding members and changing musical format in the late 90s.
Rather, this is a continuation of frontman/onlyman Miljenko Matijevic’s preference towards alt-modern hard rock, with some seriously loud, sometimes screechy vocals.

Song wise it’s a pretty strange set up, with 4 intense semi-industrial metalized hard rockers followed by three ballads then another intense metal track followed by two more mellower tracks.

Taken as a whole, it’s pretty interesting listening and a musical statement has definitely been made here, but how many Steelheart fans will be receptive to this?

And what’s with the same melody being used on three different tracks?? Check out My World, You Got Me Twisted and Got Me Running. Eh?

Tracks I will probably revisit for enjoyment – You Got Me Twisted, My Dirty Girl and the Led Zeppelin goes alt-metal opener Stream Line Savings. But the rest….no thanks.

On songs and performance alone, you’ve definitely got a contender for one of the best classic British melodic rock albums of 2017. There’s a lot to like with the keyboard/guitar driven old school 80s AOR and the vocals of Peter Scallan. Some of the songs such as blissful Chance Of A Lifetime are just perfect.

But the production is a huge problem. The rhythm section is the biggest culprit, with mega-bass, but virtually no drums and the overall mix is a problem when trying to enjoy this at a decent volume.

I like these guys, I like these songs, but it’s 2017 now guys – there can’t be any excuses for bad production and it’s something I always point out here and will continue to do so.

The market is flooded with releases, so if you aren’t delivering the best on all fronts, sales will suffer.

ERIC JOHNSON To Perform ‘Ah Via Musicom’ In Its Entirety in 2018 Tour

ERIC JOHNSON ANNOUNCES PLAN TO PERFORM CELEBRATED ALBUM AH VIA MUSICOM IN ITS ENTIRETY AT DATES ACROSS THE U.S IN 2018

Run Begins At Tucson’s Rialto Theater on January 23 with Arielle As Direct Support

Austin, TX – Eric Johnson has announced plans to perform his celebrated album AH VIA MUSICOM in its entirety at dates across America in 2018.  Johnson shares, “I listen to the fan feedback and comments as I plan my projects and tours.  That's how I got into the recording and subsequent tour with Mike Stern. Same thing with the acoustic recording and tour because I kept hearing ‘Hey when are you gonna do that acoustic record you've been talking about for years’. But by far, the most feedback I've been getting from fans is to play the entire Ah Via Musicom record live so I figured I've put this off for too long.  The time is now, and the timing worked out for Tommy Taylor and Kyle Brock to be involved too so here we go.”  The tour will begin on January 23 at Tucson’s Rialto Theater and continue through March 16 in Milwaukee.  A complete itinerary follows below.

The guitar has been very good to Eric Johnson, earning him international renown as a player, composer, recording artist and live entertainer as well as an ever-growing audience of admirers. And Eric Johnson has been very good to the guitar, spotlighting its myriad melodic, sonic and lyrical splendors, paying homage to its heroes and innovators, collaborating and playing with many of its finest contemporary talents, and fostering its continuing vibrancy as a primarily instrumental genre in popular music.

The pivotal event in Johnson's rise to becoming, as Guitar Player says, “one of the most respected guitarists on the planet," was his million-selling, now-classic 1990 album Ah Via Musicom (which loosely translates as "communicating through music"). It was his second release, following Tones, his 1986 major label debut.

Musicom yielded three Top 10 singles – "Cliffs of Dover," which has become Johnson's signature song and won a Best Rock Instrumental Grammy, and "Trademark" and "Righteous." It made him the first artist to ever score three Top 10 instrumentals. Now, 28 years later, he revisits that landmark recording with a 2018 tour on which he will play the album – hailed as a "masterwork" in Amazon.com's review – in its entirety.

The years prior to Ah Via Musicom and since are rich with accomplishments. Over the now five studio albums that have followed it – Venus Isle (1996), Bloom (2005), 2010's Up Close (and its revised European version Up Close – Another Look, now being issued in the US), EJ (2016) and the latest – Eric has broadened and enriched his rock guitar palette and further delved into his love for blues, jazz and country. He's earned six Grammy nominations, has topped or been listed high in countless greatest guitarist lists in music publications, and been featured on the cover of most every guitar magazine, many more than once.

The Austin, Texas-based Johnson closes out 2017 with a new album, Collage, that combines five new original songs with five covers that reflect both his inspirations and range: An acoustic version of Jimi Hendrix's "One Rainy Wish," The Beatles classic "We Can Work It Out" in a Caribbean groove, B.B. King's "Rock Me Baby," the surf rock classic "Pipeline" and Stevie Wonder's 1966 #3 pop hit "Uptight (Everything's Alright)."

Once Ah Via Musicom hit, the Los Angeles Times noted how he had already "been compared with rock's immortals." But Eric himself modestly demurs. "I don't think I'm a rock god. I just keep playing. It's fun, and I'm glad people enjoy it."

DOWN N OUTZ Unleash New Live CD/DVD Plus Reissues

DOWN 'N OUTZ TO RELEASE New LIVE Album: "The Further Live Adventures Of...." December 1, 2017
Re-Issues of "My Re-Generation" + "The Further Adventures Of...." also set for December 1, 2017

Instant Grat Track, "Overnight Angels" Available with Preorder of Live Album; Video Out Now - https://youtu.be/lDq1wXTAvhg

Down 'n' Outz are pleased to announce the release of a brand new live album "The Further Live Adventures Of ..." on December 1st, via Frontiers Music Srl. The live album, recorded in Sheffield Corporation in December 2014, will be available 2CD/DVD, Blu-ray, vinyl and digital. In addition, on the same day, the band will reissue their previous records "My Re-Generation" and "The Further Adventures Of ..." on CD, LP and Digital.

The Down 'N' Outz is the project founded and fronted by Def Leppard's Joe Elliott and backed by members of The Quireboys, Wayward Sons and Raw Glory. The band pays tribute to rock legends Mott The Hoople and was established from the most unusual of circumstances ... in the words of Joe Elliott:  "When Mott The Hoople announced they were reforming for a week's worth of shows at the Hammersmith Odeon I was asked that I participate in some capacity. They've always been my favourite band and it's nice to see the rest of the rock world finally catch up and give them their due."

"But, what was I to do? It was suggested to me that the Quireboys would be up for offering their services. This was perfect! A fan since their first album, I loved the idea of working with a band as enthusiastic to do this as I was. I decided that the thing to do was play some songs that like-minded people thought they would never hear live again, if ever, songs by spin offs of Mott the Hoople - songs by Mott, Ian Hunter and British Lions. Songs that are close to my heart, songs that I've played every week for the best part of 35 years on record, cassette, CD, iPod and now live."

The Down 'N Outz supported Mott The Hoople at one of their legendary 2009 reformation shows at Hammersmith Odeon. Following a rapturous reception, the one night project took on a life and energy of its own and an album project was born.

The band then decided to record an album, "My Re-Generation" produced by Elliott and Ronan McHugh (Def Leppard), which was recorded in Elliott's personal studio with basic tracking done at Moor Hall studio Bedfordshire by engineer Chris Corney. The album featured entirely covers of songs by artists related to Mott the Hoople, such as Mott, British Lions and Ian Hunter.

The band made an appearance at the 2010 High Voltage Festival in the UK, launched their own branded beer, and also announced it would be performing with Paul Rodgers in April 2011 as the opening act on the latter's UK tour.

On 21 April 2014, Down 'n' Outz released their second studio album, The Further Adventures Of... Critically acclaimed Classic Rock wrote:"Further Adventures raises the bar for Mott The Hoople covers while giving timeless songs a new lease of life, as classics deserving of a new audience."

In addition to Joe Elliott (Vocals/Guitar/Keyboards), the band features The Quireboys' Paul Guerin (Guitar), Guy Griffin (Guitar), Keith Weir (keyboards), drummer Phil Martini (Wayward Sons) and bassist Share Ross (Vixen). "The Further Live Adventures Of...." will be released on 2CD/DVD, Blu-Ray, vinyl and digital on December 1st, via Frontiers Music Srl.
