R.I.P SHERWOOD BALL; Jay Graydon Posts Tribute

R.I.P SHERWOOD BALL.
This from Jay Graydon:
With heavy hearts we are posting this:

I am saddened to note Sherwood Ball has passed away.

Many times over the years I had told Sherwood he is on a very short list of the best singers of all time! If Stevie Wonder had heard Sherwood sing, Stevie would agree!

Sherwood could sing in any style and only a handful of white singers can sing R&B and make it funky and totally believable! Sherwood was also a very good guitarist!

Sherwood was like a brother to me! A very generous person with a heart of gold!
In 1994 and 1996 I put together a band to tour Japan, Sweden, and Norway. Sherwood was surely a key factor as to the band as a guitarist and singer! So many fond memories of our time together.

As to celebrate Sherwood's talent, a few years ago I decided to do a musical experiment as to the song, Day In, Day Out for a project we called Crank Sinatra. Sherwood sang the song and nailed the vocal as always!

I'm not in the mood to note all of the details as to why and how the process went. This track has been available through my website and CD Baby, This is not the time for a business pitch so here is the mix for free. Pass along to anyone you like that would want to hear Sherwood singing in the Sinatra Style with his own "feel". Sherwood Ball singing Day In - Day Out

Rest in peace Sherwood.

Jay.

Quotes from the interview: On leaving Manowar "Sometimes you just grow apart and Joey was taking the band over. There was no street sense. There was no nice. There was no being cool with other bands. This is not me. I wasn't planning on leaving and I did not leave. I was asked to leave."

On retiring from music: "If it ever gets to a point where it's an embarrassment. That you're just wheeling me on the stage... That'll never happen. Some bands are doing that already and it's not pretty. You'll never see that out of me - I guarantee you."

The new NORDIC UNION is the musical alliance between
Erik Martensson and Ronnie Atkins!
Out on Frontiers in January!

Frontiers Music Srl is pleased to present the self-titled debut album from NORDIC UNION, which is set for release on January 29, 2016.

NORDIC UNION is the name behind the new musical collaboration, built by Frontiers President Serafino Perugino, between singer Ronnie Atkins of the legendary Danish Hard Rock institution PRETTY MAIDS and the up-and-coming Swedish songwriter and producer Erik Martensson of ECLIPSE and W.E.T. fame.

The partnership between the two fellow Scandinavians worked well and together they have created some musical magic, which will truly impress the fans of these highly regarded musicians. Atkins says: “The music on the album has a focus on good melodies and there’s some good guitar work as well. I had a good gut feeling ever since I heard the first songs from Erik Martensson, and I was right he’s a very gifted and talented songwriter!”

These songs are guaranteed not to leave your head for a long time. Just have a listen to  the gorgeous anthemic opener “The War Has Begun” and some killer melodic gems like “When Death Is Calling,” “21 Guns” and “Hypocrisy” with great hooks and epic guitar riffs. “Wide Awake” can be described as a combination between pop and melodic rock with a modern production. There’s really something for everyone here!

While Pretty Maids is still my first priority” explains Ronnie, “the production process and the work on this record went very smoothly. I think what came out is a killer Melodic Hard Rock album with a lot of good songs on it – I could really feel the songs as mine and identify with those. So I hope the fans will be able to share my view and It’s been some kind of a little fresh breath in between albums for me really.”

Get ready to enjoy a great new album from a new sensational all Nordic musical alliance!

GUNS N ROSES Reunited Lineup Unlikely To Be All Original

Release Year:
2015

GUNS N ROSES have been the subject of continued reunion speculation for several years now, but the whispers become a roar earlier this year when guitarist Slash publicly stated that he and frontman Axl Rose had patched up differences that kept them estranged for nearly two decades.

So what is the future of what used to be rock n roll’s “most dangerous band”?

It is no great secret that a reunion is coming. The pitch has been with concert promoters for several months now, with confirmation coming from a couple of those agents that the band is looking to play select festivals in 2016 before moving onto a larger stadium tour in 2017 – to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the classic Appetite For Destruction album.

But what hasn’t been discussed however, is who exactly will be involved in the reunion. The rumors have all touted a reunion of the “classic” or “original” lineup.

But it’s not what people might have expected.

From everything I have heard from multiple trusted sources, the new Guns N Roses lineup will consist of:

Axl
Slash
Duff

With:
Richard Fortus
Frank Ferrer
Dizzy Reed

Plans are still evolving, but it appears the band is pitching a few high-profile European rock festivals and Coachella in the USA has been mentioned too.

All of this is rumoured until confirmed, but from what I’ve heard, Steven Adler, Izzy Stradlin and Matt Sorum are not going to be involved.

Stay tuned…

From Motorhead's Official Facebook page: "Lil' Philthy...he who once shouted 'stop wincing about' on an album...he who fueled many a young boy's punk/metal hairstyles...he who played the drums with fury and intent...he who liked to call people 'wazzocks' once in a while...friend, Roman, Derbyshireman...rest in peace...with much love..."

From: http://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-34803204

Former Motorhead drummer "Philthy Animal" Phil Taylor has died aged 61, his bandmate and friend has said.
Guitarist "Fast" Eddie Clarke wrote on Facebook: "My dear friend and brother passed away last night... He was one hell of a character."

Taylor, from Chesterfield, played in the British heavy metal band for 14 years with Clarke and frontman Ian "Lemmy" Kilmister.
He features on all the band's hits, including Ace of Spades and Overkill.

"Fortunately we made some fantastic music together and I have many, many fond memories of our time together," Clarke said.
He said Taylor had been ill for some time "but that does not make it any easier when the time finally comes".

R.I.P Phil.

JOHN MELLENCAMP Retrospective On 30th Anniversary Of 'Scarecrow'

Release Year:
2015

Podcasts & Radio

Dallas, TX - Nov 12, 2015.  InTheStudio.Net, the web home for North American syndicated Rock radio show InTheStudio: The Stories Behind History's Greatest Rock Bands celebrates the 30th anniversary of John Mellencamp's Scarecrow  album with a look back at the many revealing interviews conducted with John over nearly a decade for InTheStudio.

John Mellencamp Scarecrow released this week in 1985 was loaded with hits including 'Small Town', 'Lonely Ol' Night' and 'R.O.C.K. in the USA'. His list of Top 20 hits is so extensive it required the double-disc Words and Music compilation to fit them all.  Scarecrow revealed some of the best of John's songcraft. 'Minutes to Memories' has cinematic characters with dialogue to rival any Larry McMurtry novel; 'Between a Laugh and a Tear' is an under-appreciated gem featuring Rickie Lee Jones harmonizing on the choruses; and the driving 'Rain on the Scarecrow' pelted the public apathy toward the disappearing family farmer, providing a spark to ignite the Farm Aid effort with Neil Young and Willie Nelson.  All of the promise of the American Dream, and the contradictions, are evident in the gutcheck of the rural North American parallel universe in this revealing series of interviews.

'People think I'm the keeper of the small town. And everybody thought 'Well hell this guy is really all about small towns.' I'm not really. I wrote one song.'  - John Mellencamp
