GIRLSCHOOL/RAVEN/VENOM INC & SISTERS OF MERCY Australian 2019 Dates Announced

Artist:

GIRLSCHOOL are a British rock band that formed in the new wave of British heavy metal scene in 1978, frequently associated with contemporaries Motörhead. They are the longest-running all-female rock band, still active after almost 40 years. Formed from a school band called Painted Lady, GIRLSCHOOL enjoyed strong media exposure and commercial success in the UK in the early 1980s with three albums of 'punk-tinged metal' and a few singles, that placed them up there with the legends of NWOBHM

In the 1990s and 2000s, GIRLSCHOOL focused on shows and tours and made few studio albums. During their career they travelled the world, playing in many rock and metal festivals and co-headlining with or supporting important hard rock and heavy metal bands. They maintain a worldwide cult following and are an inspiration for many female rock musicians. 3 original members, Kim McAuliffe, Enid Williams and Denise Dufort—are still in the band, with long time axe wielder Jackie Chambers on guitar.

We'll never have Motorhead again, but we can have their mates.

Joining them on their triumphant return, VENOM INC.!!!!!

Formed as Venom in 1979 in Newcastle upon Tyne, England. And coming to prominence towards the end of the new wave of British heavy metal, Venom's first two albums—Welcome to Hell (1981) and Black Metal (1982)—are considered a major influence on thrash metal and extreme metal in general. Venom's second album proved influential enough that its title was used as the name of an extreme metal sub-genre: Black Metal.

During the 80’s, Venom were THE extreme band, releasing more classic albums such as At War With Satan, Possessed and countless classic, live albums, such as the Assault live album series and the legendary Eine Kleine Nachtmusik Double LP and the The Seventh Date of Hell: Live At Hammersmith Odeon Video which helped launch Metallica, who were the support band for Venom’s tour.

Following Cronos’ departure from the band, Tony Dolan (The Demolition Man) from Atomkraft, stepped in filling Cronos’ big, red boots, most admirably. And recording four releases with Venom: Prime Evil (1989), Tear Your Soul Apart (1990), Temples of Ice (1991), The Waste Lands (1992).

Hailing from Newcastle Upon Tyne in North East England back in 1974 (yes – 44 YEARS ago!!!) the brothers Gallagher cut their teeth playing the pubs & clubs until solidifying their line up in 1980 with drummer Rob Hunter.  The trio went on to release three of the most influential metal albums of the NWOBHM (New Wave Of British Heavy Metal) on the Neat records label which in turn inspired every band of that era and beyond. Basically, without RAVEN you just might not have had thrash/speed metal…. after all, the band did give Metallica & Anthrax their first tours!

Propelled from the obsession with electronica but still a far distance from the machinations of the mainstream music of the time, the signature sound of The Sisters Of Mercy cultivated a powerful mystique, creating some of the most influential rock music of the 1980s.

Led by the haunting voice and visual focus of founding band member Andrew Eldritch, whose ingenious and self-proclaimed ‘supercharged industrial psychedelia’ spawned a subculture of underground rock music that gained cult status and has since been cited as a major influence by the likes of Metallica, Nine Inch Nails and My Chemical Romance.

ELECTRIC MARY will release their new studio album 'Mother' on February 22.

While on writing trip to New York, vocalist & songwriter, Rusty Brown, visited the Jimi Hendrix founded Electric Lady Recording Studios. It was there that the infamous studio manager "Electric Mary Campbell" entered his life .. story after story of the rock history that wandered through the studio's had Rusty's head spinning, his direction was clear, and it now had a name "ELECTRIC MARY”.

Since then, Electric Mary have become globally renowned for their explosive brain-bending live performances and at home in Australia are regarded as one of, if not the best live bands in the country. This Melbourne band have held their own while sharing the world’s stages with some of the most revered names in hard rock. Whitesnake took them on the road, Judas Priest asked them to support, Deep Purple had them in stadiums, England, France, Spain and Japan came calling…KissAlice Cooper, MotorheadDef Leppard all followed and even after 10 years on the road Electric Mary continue to impress rock music fans and media across the planet.

2008's album, Down To The Bone received rave reviews around the world, including Rock Album Of The Year ahead of releases by Metallica and Queen by the UK’s Birmingham Mail.

The band ’s third album simply entitled ’III’ became a milestone in the genre as Rocktopia reviewed: "Already one of the more promising bands to have hit the scene in the last few years, 'III' keeps up Electric Mary's high standards and is an album that deserves to see them make the next step into the big boys' playground.".

Classic Rock Magazine (UK) enthusiastically concluded " 'III' is exactly the kind of album it should be mandatory for every CR reader to own".

in 2014 , The band released the infamous ‘ The Last Great Hope’ mini album featuring live hits like 'Sweet Mary C’ and the astoundingly moody ‘ Already Gone’ . Next came their live album 'Alive in HELLDorado’ which was recorded over 2 Sold Out nights in The Basque Country in Spain. Mixed in Texas by American Producer The Machine (White Zombie, Clutch and King Crimson).  The album is a testament to the bands killer live shows and it's no wonder they already number Iron Maiden, Whitesnake, Judas Priest and E Street Band guitarist Steven Van Zandt among their growing number of admirers.

10 years, three studio Albums… a live album ... three E.P’s… dozens of American and European tours… broken teeth, broken bones & broken records 2019 will see “The Mary’s” release their 4th studio long player ‘Mother’ and once again head across the globe to tour their unique Australian brand of take no prisoners Rock N Roll.

JOHN KILZER Returns With 'Scars' Out Now

Artist:

Memphis rock/blues cult legend JOHN KILZER is back in quick time with a new album 'Scars'.

PR: “You can’t be from Memphis and not know John Kilzer,” says producer Matt Ross- Spang. “I’ve always been a fan of his writing and his singing.” Ross-Spang is, of course, the Grammy winning producer/engineer who has worked on projects with Margo Price, Drive-By Truckers, John Prine, Jason Isbell as well as the Elvis Presley catalog.  He produced John Kilzer’s latest work, Scars, an album for Archer Records that is a reflection of the noted singer/songwriter’s life and times in Memphis, the zeitgeist of the city and its history that are the focus of his musical soul.  He contends, “we all get scared but there’s some healing in being wounded.”

There are really many John Kilzers: the musical entity perhaps being the most well known. There’s also John Kilzer the star college athlete who played forward for the Memphis State Tigers.  There’s John Kilzer the academician who taught English literature at the aforementioned University.  There’s John Kilzer the Doctor of Divinity who is affiliated with St. John’s United Methodist Church. There is also John Kilzer the recovering addict whose personal experience, combined with his pursuit of a PhD in religious studies at Middlesex University in England, is the living embodiment of practicing what one (literally) preaches. The unifying factor for all of these John Kilzers is a great passion for music.  “It’s what enables me to do what I do, it’s my sanctuary,” he states unequivocally.

Back in the late ‘80s and early ‘90s Kilzer was on the brink of stardom.  Signed to prestigious Geffen Records when it was white hot with the likes of Guns ‘n’ Roses, Sonic Youth and Peter Gabriel, he released two albums, Memory In the Making and Busman’s Holiday. While he was not as commercially successful as those aforementioned label mates, the experience did establish him as a songwriter to be reckoned with.  Of note is the fact that his songs have been recorded by Roseanne Cash, Trace Atkins and Maria Muldaur, among others.  He’s continued to pursue his own recording career with indie releases including his previous effort for Archer, 2014’s Hide Away.

More recently, catalyzed by the prospect of working with Ross-Spang, Kilzer got busy, confiding, “Matt asked me if I had some songs. I told him I did. I didn’t tell him that I hadn’t written them down yet.”  He started writing feverishly, sometimes for 20 straight hours, picking out tunes on whatever fell to hand: an old guitar, a ukulele, the piano, a mandolin.  “I wrote the songs very quickly, in about two and a half weeks, and in a romantic sort of way. If there’s any organic metaphor to them, it was because they were all cut out of the same block,” he allows.

Soon thereafter, Kilzer and Ross-Spang, together with the ‘A-team’ of Memphis studio cats including Steve Selvidge (guitar) Rick Steff (keyboards) Dave Smith (bass) and drummers Steve Potts and George Sluppick, gathered at Music+Arts studio with engineer Kevin Houston running the board. Producer Ross-Spang came out from the control room and joined the assembled players on acoustic guitar. There’s a method to this apparent madness according to Ross-Spang. “When I’m producing, I like to be in the room with the artist. Better communication is a part of it. It’s different from being behind the glass and spouting orders. You’re in the trenches with them.”

In advance of those sessions there was very little rehearsal. “We just got there and played it,” says Kilzer. “There was a creative energy in doing that which I hope lives in the music.”

Adds Ross-Spang, “It’s like the old days with the Stax guys, and Sam Phillips and Sun Records... I think it’s important to get the band’s first impression as a unit, as opposed to individually. It's where we all go together that’s important to the song.”

The resulting Scars tune stack is 11 songs so heartfelt and personal that it’s difficult not to be immediately affected by their honesty and directness.  Kilzer attributes that to the singular place where he lives and works.  “It’s a badge of honor. I hope I have been able to live up to it. Memphis is where the big bang happened. You try to at least not mess it up before you pass it on.”  As he likes to put it, “All Memphis music is soul music,” and Kilzer’s soul is front and center on Scars.

“The Guitar Zeus project, for me, was an amazing experience that has never been done before by a drummer, especially with so much talent on one album! You get your money’s worth! Writing all the songs with my band (Tony & Kelly) and then picking out songs for each guitarist was a fun and time-consuming process, especially coordinating everybody’s schedules and recording sessions.

From the opening note, one can tell this is going to be something special. I consider these drum tracks to be some of the best performances in my career, topped off with working with so many great guitarists and singers.  The combination of players and song selection is something special with some of the tunes is out of the ordinary and ahead of their time!”
– Carmine Appice

“As soon as I heard the track, I thought it had a very haunting quality, evoking the ‘60s, but with a very modern slant. I also found the backing track very powerful and appealing, driven by Carmine’s very recognizable style; so I was keen to play on the track straight away” - Brian May
