REVIEWS IN BRIEF

Less words, but same conclusions and same scores.

A lot more to come as it’s the only way to keep up with the number of releases there are these days and the fact I missed so many over the last 12 months.

DYNAZTY – Firesign – So they changed style mid-career, who cares when its this good! I love these guys and the last three albums have been kick ass hard rock albums, bordering on melodic metal. Such great songs and a massive production. Nils Molin has the perfect hard rock voice. For those that love something that might fall in between Eclipse and Masterplan. 94

KISSIN DYNAMITE – Ectasy – Another European band showing the rest of the world how its done. Huge production, layers of everything and a bunch of high-energy anthemic rockers with big choruses every track. There’s some diversity in the material here, kinda modern, kinda punky, kinda 80s hard rock…but kinda killer! 90

TWO OF A KIND – Rise – I absolutely loved the debut, it was a fantastic slice of female fronted, harmony rich AOR. And I love Fred Hendrix’s writing style and his ability to deliver fresh and original songs. I’m gutted to say this album isn’t a patch on the debut, not the songs, nor the rough production. 50

DREAM CHILD – Dream Child – Another attempt by Frontiers to recreate Dio (this one featuring Craig Goldy, Wayne Findlay, Simon Wright, Rudy Sarzo and Diego Valdez from Helker as the Ronnie Dio stand in). Songs are pretty decent but just like recent Dio albums, everything is the same tempo and you can barely tell the difference between tracks. Valdez is one hell of a singer though! The production is also pretty ordinary – a really muddy, bass heavy sound. 65

BULLETBOYS - From Out of The Skies – It could almost be called From Out Of The Garden Shed such is the production quality. And the songs aren’t much better. The Bulletboys debut is legendary and between that and this album comes an array of releases that both astound and also dismay. At least it isn’t as bad as Acid Monkey. 30

LIONVILLE – A World Of Fools – These guys have earned themselves a well-deserved reputation for high quality European pure-AOR. And it doesn’t hurt to have Work Of Art’s Lars Safsund holding the mike. Another super smooth, very likable, highly melodic slice of music. 92

ALL 4 1 – The World’s Best Hope – Not to be confused with the multi-platinum R&B group (there was no better idea for a name?), this is another Frontiers/Alessandro Del Vecchio project featuring a lineup that is almost Alliance plus Terry Brock. So basically, quality all-round and some very fine performances. Should have been marketed better and under another name and it is fairly safe and predictable, but sometimes that’s a good thing. 87

TAINTED NATION – On The Outside – Pete Newdeck delivers his best Ozzy Osbourne here with a powerful, modern and seriously rocking slice of melodic metal. Killer production and should be huge. Huge I say! 90

NEWMAN – Aerial – Maybe not quite as strong as the last studio album, but that’s hardly a slight. Always enjoyable, always quality and always a must buy. British melodic rock at its best. 90

PHANTOM V – Play II Win – Not earth shattering or something that held my attention for a long time, but this second album from Axel Kruse, Bobby Boebel, Michael Voss and Claus Lessmann is a big step up from the pretty average debut. 80

EISLEY / GOLDY ‎– Blood, Guts And Games – The thought of the two Giuffria guys together again had folks excited. When the album title came to light, it pointed towards trouble for anyone hoping for more pink and fluffy from the guys. Then came the music. Awful songs, awful style and awful production. The result kills any hope of the guys coming back to deliver what fans really wanted. 30

STYX – The Mission – From the band with almost as many live/DVD releases as Foreigner comes a new studio album! Wow! And even more amazing, its pretty darn good. A concept album with more pomp than the last few records, it is entertaining and sounds great. Even the James Young lead vocal sounds great, ok, well… at least it’s short. 91

TONY MILLS – Streets Of Chance – Absolutely superb AOR album from Britain’s Tony Mills. Doing what he does best with a solid production and some highly memorable songs. And now he’s got a new album out. Get both. Feature review for the new album coming up. 90

AXEL RUDI PELL – Knight’s Call – Axel. Rudi. Pell. But not as good. 70

PERFECT PLAN – All Rise – Perfect name, almost perfect album. A monstrous melodic rock debut from yet another Swedish discovery. Right up there with Roulette, Art Nation and Rian. Essential for fans of the genre. Can’t believe I didn’t get a review of this done at the time. A monster! 95

THRESHOLD - Legends Of The Shires – The best progressive hard rock album since Dream Theater’s Images And Words. A double album with all killer, no filler. Brilliant production, songs, performances and I love the vocals of Glynn Morgan. Masterpiece! 100

VEGA – Only Human – More essential British melodic rock. The guys can do no wrong and their productivity now means its hard to compare album against album and pick the best, as they have reached that number of releases where its just all good. No exception here. A little more modern in places, but still brilliant. 93

REVERTIGO – Revertigo – Mats Leven, Anders Wikstrom and Thomas Broman, now that’s a powerful trio. As hoped, it’s a pretty strong album. Modern to a point, but still melodic and hard rocking. A great addition to the Mats Levin catalogue. 87

JAMES CHRISTIAN – Craving – It’s a nice change of pace from House Of Lords and its better produced than the Lay It On The Line record. The Cliff Magness backed album is a smooth, anthemic, mid-tempo collection of songs that suit JC completely. 85

WHITE WIDDOW – Victory – Love these guys, love the throw back Giuffria/keyboard heavy sound and the smooth AOR melodies. They guys haven’t delivered a bad album, but I do think this one is a little safe and a repeat of past formulas. Production not as tight as previous, but I’m still a big fan. 80

SCREAMING JETS – Gotcha Covered – Love this band! Great classic Aussie hard rock. Which is what this covers album focusses on – classic Australian pub rock classics. There’s covers of Men At Work, Dragon, Australian Crawl, Inxs, Icehouse The Angels (whom vocalist Dave Gleeson now fronts) and even AC/DC. But guys, if you are going to cover the best – give it your best. This is yet another example of a limp-wristed straight up interpretations of songs that either don’t suit the band at all, or just aren’t rocked out enough to warrant the effort. Very poor. 50

BULLETBOYS Sign on to Ever Growing Frontiers Records Roster

Artist:

Frontiers Music Srl is pleased to announce the signing of BULLETBOYS to the label for a new album to be released in the last part of 2016!

BULLETBOYS formed in 1988 at the very peak of the Los Angeles hard rock movement. With record companies constantly searching for new talent, they possessed a pedigree that most bands would kill for. Unlike the other rockers of the day, the BulletBoys were more hard rock and blues fusion than pure hair metal. Using their credentials, they were able to quickly capture the attention of music fans around the world while frontman Marq Torienemerged as one of the most underrated vocalists of the era. Thanks to comparisons to the likes ofAerosmith and especially Van Halen, talent scouts came running and the band quickly received their first major label contract.

With a debut album, produced by none other than Ted Templeman (Van Halen, Montrose) which sported the the smash hit single "Smooth Up in Ya," BulletBoys officially established themselves as the leaders of the then LA rock scene. Constant tours and the support of MTV soon brought the album to platinum status. Two more albums soon followed, “Freakshow” and “Za-Za”.

The band continued to tour and release albums surviving throughout the grunge era and outlasting the nu-metal craze. With 8 more studio albums under their belt, BulletBoys are ready to start again with a new label, feeling stronger than ever!

“We could not be more ecstatic about signing with Frontiers” says Marq Torien. “Thank you to the Executives at the label and Artists Worldwide for believing in our music. We have worked diligently over the past years musically, touring, writing and performing. We are excited to embark on this new venture with Frontiers as our support and really looking forward to releasing our new music with your amazing label. Our new joint is going into a completely new direction musically that has not been heard from us ever. We promise not to disappoint!”

https://www.spreaker.com/user/talkingmetal/1on1-mitch-lafon-bulletboys

In episode 112 of One On One With Mitch Lafon, Mitch is joined by The Voice of the BULLETBOYS, Marq Torien.
In this episode Marq discusses their new album,  Elefante. As well as his time in Ozzy Osbourne's band, former band members, Stephen Pearcy and his time with RATT, working with Van Halen producer Ted Templeman and much much more.

Quotes from the interview:
On his time in RATT: "It was one of the greatest experiences of my musical career because I got to work with the great Stephen Pearcy.'
On working with OZZY after the passing on Randy Rhoads: "We rehearsed for a little over a month (almost two months). I was supposed to start the tour in Europe - Diary Of A Madman. Rudy takes me under his wing, but I knew that he was still devastated by Randy's death and so was Ozzy. I'm supposed to fly out with them and I waited two days, but nobody came to pick me up. I get a call from Sharon. She spoke to my mom, "Ozzy feels he's too young. Tell him that we love him with our hearts, but we just can't do this right now." So they ended up getting Bernie Torme.

This episode is co-hosted by FIREHOUSE guitarist, Bill Leverty.

The Latest From ROCK CANDY RECORDS Out Now

The following four new Rock Candy titles are all available now from www.rockcandyrecords.com for a discounted price including postage to anywhere in the world for the next two weeks ending on October 6.

MOTT 'DRIVE ON' CANDY245

THERE IS NO doubt that Mott The Hoople were one of the most influential British rock bands of the 1970s. Having gone from a struggling club band to wider international success, it came as something of a shock when leader Ian Hunter pulled the band apart by quitting in late 1974, taking flamboyant guitarist Mick Ronson with him to peruse a solo career. For the other members of Mott The Hoople this could have spelt disaster but fortunately their resolve and determination overcame all obstacles resolving to carry on with a revised line up.

Enlisting new guitarist Ray Major and unknown vocalist Nigel Benjamin (recommended to the band by Bad Company and former Hoople guitarist Mick Ralphs), the band reconvened, still signed to CBS, but under the new handle of Mott. It was this line-up (also featuring former MTH stalwarts Pete 'Overend' Watts, Dale 'Buffin' Griffin and Morgan Fisher) that recorded 'Drive On' one of the year's most surprising and exciting albums.

Although it exploring some of the more grandiose musical themes touched on by latter day MTH, the album is also a hot-bed of hard rocking, allowing the extraordinary vocals of Nigel Benjamin to take centre stage. It's this full-on direction that lent the record a sense of urgency that still impresses to this day ' a fact that hasn't escaped the attention of Def Leppard vocalist Joe Elliott who has, in recent years, persistently championed these songs in concert and on newly recorded versions.

Special Deluxe Collector's Edition, fully remastered sound, contain bonus track, companion essay from Joe Elliott, 16 page full colour booklet, new interviews, 3,000 word essay, enhanced artwork and rare photos.

TRACK LISTING: 1. BY TONIGHT 2. MONTE CARLO 3. SHE DOES IT 4. I'LL TELL YOU SOMETHING 5. STIFF UPPER LIP 6. LOVE NOW 7. APOLOGIES 8. THE GREAT WHITE WAIL 9. HERE WE ARE 10. IT TAKES ONE TO KNOW ONE 11. I CAN SHOW YOU HOW IT IS BONUS TRACK: 12. SHOUT IT ALL OUT

MOTT 'SHOUTING & POINTING' CANDY246

WHEN IAN HUNTER and Mick Ronson quit Mott The Hoople in late 1974, many thought that the band would become just another fondly remembered and well respected entry in the history of rock. Few would have gambled on the remaining band members rising up, dusting themselves down and getting back in the ring ready to fight another day. Re-tooled under the newly abbreviated moniker of Mott, the band recruited guitarist Ray Major and super talented yet unknown vocalist Nigel Benjamin, releasing 'Drive On', one of the most impressive albums of 1975.

Finding support at all levels, the band reconvened for the follow up album 'Shouting And Pointing', issued in 1976, a far more panoramic record which took the original Mott The Hoople blue-print, using it to their advantage, increasing the energy level and constructing songs that utilized ambitious arrangements. Nigel Benjamin was a real find, a man seemingly without any vocal ceiling who was also a great frontman.

Produced by studio veteran Eddie Kramer (Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin) at the Manor studios in Oxfordshire and mixed by the equally esteemed Bill Price (Sex Pistols, Guns 'N Roses) the material is both challenging and commercially addictive. Songs such as 'Collision Course', 'Storm' and 'Hold On You're Crazy' rock the house but its 'Career (No Such Thing As Rock And Roll)' and the title track that construct a vivid picture of the band's grandiose ambitions.

BULLETBOYS 'S/T' CANDY203

THERE IS NO getting away from it, Los Angeles in the late 80s was ground zero for hard rock and heavy metal. The Sunset Strip was home to literally hundreds of up and coming acts, all desperate to place their stake in the ground and climb the ladder to a bigger and better future. One such act was the BulletBoys, a lean and mean rocking machine who's melodic yet raw sensibilities set them apart from the competition by a country mile.

However, although the band's upward trajectory was a veritable rocket powered climb, it hadn't always been that way for the individual members. Guitarist Mick Sweda had been in lauded but poorly performing rockers King Kobra and towards the end that band's existence it also featured bassist Lonnie Vencent and vocalist Marq Torien.  It was these three renegades that jumped ship to form the BulletBoys.

With shrewd management and a desire to impress, the band stayed away from the LA clubs and concentrated on rehearsing and writing songs, a plan that paid handsome dividends when Warner Brothers records, and, in particular, their head of A&R legendary producer Ted Templeman (Van Halen, Montrose), jumped at the chance to sign them. With Ted in the production seat, their self titled debut album, issued in 1988, quickly attained gold certification harboured a string of energy infused tracks that still sound great today.

New York, New York. So good they named it twice. Well, if that sort of shtick was good enough for ol' Blue eyes then it was certainly good enough for late 80s New York area melodic hard rockers Danger Danger whose songs 'Naughty, Naughty' and 'Bang Bang' helped to emphasise the point perfectly. Not that they needed to accentuate anything but the music, an impressive commodity that took then from the relative obscurity of the New Jersey bars and clubs to European stages and the wide screen appeal of MTV.

Formed in 1986, the band concentrated on forging songs and a sound that would secure them a foothold on the burgeoning melodic hard rock scene. Obscure they may have been but inexperienced they were not. Several of the band had not only paid their dues locally but had played with or backed a number of other artists, including Talas, Joe Lynn Turner, White Lion, Michael Bolton, Saraya and underground pomp rock legends Prophet.

Fashioning memorable songs with firebrand riffs, the band were signed by the Imagine label (a division of Epic Records, headed by Industry legend Lennie Petze) and put into the studio with Lance Quinn (Bon Jovi, Lita Ford). The band's self titled debut album, issued in 1989, instantly produced a hit single with the MTV friendly 'Naughty Naughty', a song that defined the band's appeal as one of the best high-energy melodic rock bands of the era.

Quiet Riot's Brings the Bang Your Head Tour and so much More

From Joe Dolan in LA...

It seems that for years, fans of the MTV Headbanger's Ball generation have been crying out for the return of hard rock music, big name tour packages and the songs of yore that rattled speakers and made parents scream 'Turn That Shit Down!' The Summer of 2014 has done more than calm the masses, it's riled the troops and brought fans out from all points on the map to welcome the one thing they've been begging for ' it's the Bang Yoour Head Tour featuring Gilby Clarke (Guns n'Roses), the BulletBoys, Faster Pussycat and one of the busiest bands today playing legendary music that marked an era ' Quiet Riot triumphantly headlining.

The tour launched in Southern California with three show dates that instantly spiked FM radio interest as well as magazine mention and has continued on with dozens upon dozens of shows scheduled across the United States throughout the summer. It's been over three years since Quiet Riot announced they were reassembling, after the passing of front man Kevin DuBrow, and touring was just the start of it. Through the diligent work of drummer Frankie Banali, a key member of the band's career history, the result has become an all-star line-up that brings the music of the legendary band back to fans in the fashion hard rock has always been delivered, that is ' Loud and Proud!

On bass guitar, Quiet Riot features Los Angeles bassist Chuck Wright, the man behind the low end of Quiet Riot's signature song Metal Health and as featured on the band's album titled QR III, which scored number 20 on the US Billboard Hot 200 in 1986. Wright was also a founding member of 80's era staples, Giuffriaand House of Lords and has performed on top selling albums for artists including Impellitterri, Doro Pesch (alongside Tommy Thayer of KISS), Matt Sorum(Guns n' Roses), Stephen Pearcy (RATT), Saints of the Underground (with Jani Lane) and the hit-list holiday issued discs by Northern Lights Orchestra that brings together some of the most prominent artists in the hard rock realm.

Quiet Riot's guitarist is Alex Grossi, an artist who has both appeared and recorded with a multitude of star acts including Adler's Appetite, Bang Tango and alongside former Quiet Riot vocalist Kevin DuBrow during the years he performed solo as well as on the 2006 Quiet Riot release titled Rehab. Grossi's repertoire includes having written with key artists including Jani Lane (Warrant), Dizzy Reed and Gilby Clarke separately (both of Guns n' Roses fame) and has recorded on more than a dozen high profile projects.

Lead vocals for the band might have been a hard sell on fans, as the world is well aware of the unique high end and out front style that was signature to Kevin DuBrow and that led a generation of teens to develop a movement of hard rock revelry that continues to exist today.  Truth be told, there are few who could do more than just sing along, but who could actually do justice to the original songs as recorded by DuBrow himself. Enter front man and media sensation Jizzy Pearl, formerly of Love/Hate and having performed with bands including RATT and Adler's Appetite. Pearl's well respected range, stage performances and ability to be creative on the fly made him the most suitable option for doing more than just recreating a recognized sound; it brought a new life to the band that has since spawned a new generation of fans that continues the legacy of what some media outlets have referred to as a cornerstone in the foundation upon which the MTVgeneration was built.

All of this creates a show of it's own, but the Bang Your Head Tour features the above mentioned circus of talents as just the headlining slot. As captured by music journalist Joe Dolan during the performance at the World Famous Saban Theatre in Beverly Hills, it was a long toss back to the era of distorted guitars and driving drumbeats from the minute the curtain went up until Quiet Riot took the stage.

Opening the show was multi-instrumentalist, singer and songwriter Gilby Clarke alongside E.J. Curse, the founding bass player from the band Silent Rage.  TheGilby Clarke Band, performing as a trio, knocked the ball out of the park with seven stellar songs that tied the sound of 80's hard rock in to the blues laden solos that tickled attendees of Guns n' Roses shows throughout the Use Your Illusion tour. Never failing to play the fan favorite, Tijuana Jail, the band warmed the audience and brought the stragglers in to their seats to see exactly how rock and roll is played on a big stage.

Next on stage was a band that has weathered the tide of genre changes in music, the BulletBoys, who scored two songs in the US Main Rock Charts in the top 30's in 1989. The band had just released a new single off their forthcoming full length release titled Elefante and received airplay on a major market FM station in San Diego that morning with the first official on-air spin of their tune just hours before show time. This tour reunites singer Marq Torien with fellow founding member, bassist Lonnie Vencent as well as supports the new CD release. Over the course of 40 minutes on stage, the band introduced their new track and ran through some fan favorites including the chart topping Smooth Up In Ya that attendees demanded and sang along with note for note.

When Faster Pussycat took the stage, it wasn't a far cry at all from the show that took the glam metal era by storm in the late 80's. Though the band featuresTaime Downe as the only original member, it's his nasally drone that the audience has connected with on hit singles including Bathroom Wall and the US Main Rock charting song House Of Pain that was replayed consistently in 1990 on MTV. The audience crowded the stage with iPhones and cameras when they performed and during the hour they stomped around on the raised platform, attendees were witness to a set list of songs that for the most part, they knew by heart.

By the time Quiet Riot took the stage, the show had already proven, beyond a reasonable doubt, that hard rock was back and touring with a vengeance. This alone, however, is only part of the news that has grabbed attention of Quiet Riot fans in 2014. Earlier in the year, Frankie Banali announced the release of the anticipated film titled Now You're here, There's No Way Back. The film features a deep and intrinsic look into the facts related to the history of the band and it details key moments that many long time fans weren't aware of, as well as documenting the moments that made them a celebrated band and secured their place in the history of American hard rock.

Adding to a year that has re-established the band, just before the start of the tour, Quiet Riot released a new album featuring six tracks with Jizzy Pearl on vocals and four previously unreleased songs from live performances featuring Kevin DuBrow. Titled 10, the album became available on June 27th, 2014 to rave reviews. It marks the next chapter in the career of these artists that have entertained millions worldwide for decades, and celebrates the achievements of Kevin DuBrow, one of rocks finest front men, a stellar songwriter and an artist who was consistently at the top of his game.

Follow Quiet Riot online at their official website to learn about the tour coming to an area near you, to purchase the new album 10 or to find out when you can own a copy of the new film.

The BulletBoys Kick Off the Summer 2014 Tour at the Saban Theater

From Joe Dolan in LA:

They're back in action and as Smooth as ever; the BulletBoys, featuring Mark Torien still commanding the front line, are kicking off a summer tour and the first dozen or so dates begin with Quiet Riot, Faster Pussycat and former Guns n' Roses guitarist Gilby Clarke in Southern California.

Getting on a nostalgia bill with Quiet Riot is a win/win situation for any band that came out of the MTV Head-Banger's Ball generation. Quiet Riot has been tearing it up for the past three years with global dominance and now performs with front man Jizzy Pearl (Love/Hate, RATT.) On the first shows in So-Cal in years, Quiet Riot announced tour dates with shows in San Diego, Beverly Hills and Anaheim, CA to stat it all off. The show poster boasted more than four hours of hard rockin' songs featuring an all star line-up of bands that lived the dream and made the hair metal scene legendary. Through July 25th, this bill includes the return of the band the BulletBoys.

On stage, front man Mark Torien announced the release of their new single titled Symphony from the upcoming album release Elefante, due out in 2014. In the modern world of social media and online press, the band released the new song on the San Diego radio station KBZT's morning show before being available for download or streaming. Some consider it a bold move, but the band proceeded to play the song to a warm response on stage at the Saban Theater in Beverly Hills that night, just about 12 hours after it's first official FM spin.

'We've been very blessed today,' Torien shared. 'We just dropped our new single for our new record. We didn't drop it on iTunes, we dropped it on a very special radio station in San Diego and they played it at about 6'o-clock in the morning when everybody was going to work. The phones just kept on blowing up and blowing up and blowing up. We're really grateful for that.'

On June 10th, just before the new tour kicked off, Blue Sparrow Enterprises, INC, the BulletBoys management company, delivered press that shared drummer Stephen Mills was leaving the band. This opening left an opportunity for drummer Shawn Duncan (DC4/Odin) to step in and command the throne. The band also shared that original bassist Lonnie Vencent would be part of the line-up, rounded out by guitarist Nick Rozz (The Tattooed Millionaires.)

Online schedules show that the 2014 Summer Tour dates extend in to August and cross the States touching down in old familiar territories including Boston, MA, New York and Pennsylvania, across the Midwest and down in to Tennessee and Missouri. The band departs from the Quiet Riot Bang Your Head Tour on July 25th and continues on solo for another 19 dates with unannounced performances ahead.

Kritsy Majors Comes Out Strong with the Thrill Kills CD Release party at the Viper Room

The legend of Hollywood Glam Rock has cornerstones and foundations that have stood the test of time against an onslaught of new music genres.  The 90's brought a change in music that weathered the scene and diluted the promise of hardcore glam-rock songwriters stomping their boots on stages for throngs of show goers and hard rock music fans; but guitarist, singer and songwriter Kristy Majors has done more than stay the course, he continues to define how the game is played, and he does it with winning results.

On Saturday, June 21st, Majors took the stage with an all-star band of gypsies that continue the original trend of 'in your face' and 'mother disapproved' wang-dangling hard rock.  Proving in 2014 that Rock and Roll can still set the night on fire, Majors wowed the crowd alongside guitarist Nick Rozz (Bullet Boys), bassist JK Famous (Pretty Boy Floyd) and drummer Ben Graves (Murderdolls).  The result was a modern day view of the stories that have sold millions of books for artists like Motley Crue drummer Tommy Lee and Poison's Brett Michaels.  With the release of the new CD titled Kristy Majors and the Thrill Kills, hard rock fanatics are welcoming Majors back to the scene with gratitude.

Majors came West to Hollywood during the 80's glam explosion from New York where he cut his teeth on the sounds of bands like the New York Dolls and the Dead Boys, blending the hardcore punk styling's of CBGB's most popular bands with the longstanding shock rock of artists like David Bowie.  Assembling a group of like-minded peers, he built a legend with the band Pretty Boy Floyd and branded the Sunset Strip GLAM style for the world to see and hear.  Signing to MCA and selling more than half a million records, tapes and CDs with their initial release Leather Boys with Electric Toys in 1989, PBF raised the bar on the look, the sound and the passion for delivering a hard rock showcase, and it remains highly collectible today, twenty-five years later.

As the nineties swept through with Grunge Music, Majors continued to write and record his unique brand of tight rhythms and piercing solos and over the next twenty years would do more than just release seven additional CDs with Pretty Boy Floyd, one with Shameless and four CDs under his own name; Majors founded a clothing line, a high profile National and International booking agency, a state of the art recording studio and produced dozens of today's top jazz artists as an A&R Representative at Sony Records, proving his worth in music as a whole and not tethered to a single genre's sound.

Music journalist Joe Dolan pinned Kristy Majors down for a few questions to bring fans up to speed before the next wave of Hollywood Hard Rock took the stage.

Joe: So the question is Kristy, why now?  When you've had so much consistent success outside of the negativity related to being a glam/hard rock recording and performing artist in the sea of modern trends and one hit wonders.  What drove you to create another Majors stamped CD in an industry that shuns hard rock artists from our generation?

Majors: Music has always been a staple in my life, and everyone's everyday life. Whether it be in a movie, a commercial, a TV show, a stage play, or whatever; you can express anger, sadness, suspense and just about every emotion with a few words and 3 notes.  I'm always writing and recording music in my free time and that will never change.  I'm a tortured soul and an insomniac!  I felt like I had something to say with this album and I hope other people grasp on to it as well.  I don't care about trends or what everyone else is doing.  I find most music today all sounds the same.

Joe: The CD is self-written; self produced and recorded in your own studio with Kari Kane (Pretty Boy Floyd) on drums and percussion.  Did anyone else contribute to what we hear on the CD?

Majors: Kari played the drums and I did everything else.  It's a tedious process, but I've always said that if you want something done right, do it yourself.

Joe: What tender cares did you address to make sure it was exactly how you wanted it to sound?

Majors: I really just went for a stripped down sound.  There is no fancy production at all, just two guitars, a bass, drums and vocals.  Think AC/DC, Sex Pistols, The Stooges, The Ramones, Johnny Thunders ' everything that inspired me when I was a kid.

Joe: You clearly hand selected a group of hard rock all-stars for the on-stage performances.  What led to choosing the artists that will play alongside of you?

Majors: Simple, I wanted to surround myself with people I actually like and that I can trust.  Creating a band alongside Nick Rozz, J.K. Famous and Ben Graves turned out to be a good choice.

Joe: You've seen the Hollywood music scene evolve and change since establishing your dominance of the glam/hard rock circuit.  What are the issues that plague the scene today that you recognize, how do you feel it went wrong and what can kids do today to start finding success?

Majors: People are lazy.  No one wants to work for anything anymore.  They think because they get a few likes on social media sites that they've made it.  Everyone wants to be famous for nothing (he scoffs).  Here's some news - get up off your ass! Get your fucking face away from your phone and join reality.  Oh, and somebody please kill off the Kardashians! (he laughed out loud)

Joe: You chose the Viper Room for the CD release.  The obvious long-term status of the club makes it a winning choice, but why the Viper Room?

Majors: It's a nice intimate environment with a great sound system that clearly showcases a band.  I really like performing in a more intimate setting, like the Viper.  It's a more personal interaction with the crowd and the crowd appreciates it.

Joe: What can people expect from the band after the CD release performance?

Majors: We've got a few music videos on the way and there has been some talk of taking the show on some small tours.  Nothing is in concrete yet but keep an eye out to see what develops over the next few months.

Shortly hereafter, the band took the stage.  Armed with bare bones utilities and ready to melt faces off the crowd, Majors uses a Les Paul, Marshall Amps, a Tube Screamer and a DD-3 Delay.  The lights fans saw flashing didn't come from stacks of equipment, it came from the barrage of cameras and cell phones capturing a long lost moment in time.  With the strings that rang bells in 1989 and took MTV by storm, the guitarist that killed with Pretty Boy Floyd was simply slaying the audience tonight in that old familiar style of tattoos, long hair and strapped leather that makes the girls howl.

Here's the set list they performed.

01. Beggars Luck
02. Dead Beat
03. Empty handed
04. Broken Lip
05. Stagnation Street
06. Magazine
07. I'll Make U Surrender
08. Make Up
09. Pissed Away
10. Falling Behind
11. Chinese Rock
12. Over & Over Again

Since the 2013 falling out of Kristy Majors and former band mate Steve Summers, Majors has stepped outside of the drama and proven beyond a reasonable doubt that he's the same powerhouse songwriter and stage talent he's always been.  This first no holds barred performance of the band is just the beginning.  Majors shared that they have three more shows lined up for San Diego, Las Vegas and back in to Southern California and the new CD release holds promise for more dates to follow as the summer season is in full swing.
