With the four members of THE DIVES hailing from both sides of the country and the middle, it might seem unlikely that these musicians would ever even meet, let alone form a band – until you hear them play.  After one listen, it’s nearly impossible to imagine them playing with anyone else.  Featuring tight harmonies and infectious hooks, THE DIVES’ music sounds fresh and familiar at the same time.  When explaining how the band was formed, they all vehemently agree that they got together with the common goal of making the kind of music they wish they heard more.

Based in NYC and a brand new band by any standards, THE DIVES wasted no time writing original material, rehearsing and leaping onto the club circuit.  When asked to describe their sound, Evan Stanley, lead guitarist and vocalist, immediately answered, “We’re a Rock & Roll band.”  Sergio Ortega, bass and vocals, explains, “It’s a rock band playing catchy songs.  Big hooks, but rattier than Top 40.”  THE DIVES musical influences are similar enough to create a cohesive sound with memorable hooks, yet diverse enough to infuse their music with the excitement of very modern flavours.  
 
The band is comprised of guitarist and lead singer Evan Stanley, guitarist and lead singer Mike Lefton, bassist and singer Sergio Ortega and drummer and singer Jimmy Meier.  Developing a passionate interest in music as children, all four have been mastering their instruments from an early age.  When Stanley moved to NYC to attend college at NYU / Tisch’s Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music, he was determined to start a band.  After a little trial and error, he was introduced to New Jersey native, Mike Lefton.  A brotherhood was formed instantly as the two found musical commonalities beginning with their influences and energetic work ethic.  And the beginnings of a band was formed.  Mike reached out to fellow New Jersey native, Jimmy Meier to give the band a beat.  With a gig booked, they scrambled to find a bass player.  A friend recommended an unlikely fit, Sergio Ortega.  Unlikely because Ortega is also an incredibly talented musician better known for guitar, banjo and mandolin and has toured the world as guitarist and musical director for Broadway phenomenon, Ramin Karimloo.  The group asked Sergio to sit in for that show and never let him leave.  It’s the kind of band fans dream about – THE DIVES don’t just spend time together for rehearsals and performances, they are brothers brought together by a common goal, shared passions and a twisted sense of humour.
 
Unfortunately, musical assumptions arise when people make the connection between Evan and KISS frontman, Paul Stanley.  Yes, Evan is the son of the rock legend but he makes it clear that THE DIVES are forging their own musical path, “You won’t hear anything that sounds like KISS at The Dives’ show.”
 
2017is already a very exciting year for THE DIVES.  With the release of their debut EP, Everybody’s Talkin’, a UK tour that afforded them the opportunity to play to audiences numbering in the tens of thousands, the band is performing throughout the summer and heading out for a national tour in August.  Be sure to follow them on all social platforms for daily updates and be sure to catch a show near you!

World Exclusive:

 

Journey guitarist NEAL SCHON has reached out to former BAD ENGLISH band mate, vocalist JOHN WAITE about doing a "rough, vicious" blues project. Neal spoke exclusively to MelodicRock.com of news that producer Kevin Shirley had the idea for the project, to use "a lot of great singers", but having recently heard a new live video of Waite, was so impressed with how good he sounded, "insanely good", so reached out and the pair are talking.

 

As for a rhythm section, Neal says: "I haven't talked about who for drums or bass, but I believe Deen Castronovo would be great."

 

Yes he would!

 

So what of this week's drama surrounding JOURNEY? All good says Neal: "I'm having fun playing as always for my fans. Journey will tour for the next 2 months then we will have time to think away from each other."

 

Neal continues: "I'm working and pretty much finished with my new solo album 'Universe' featuring Narada Michael Walden. We will definitely play some gigs after the record release in the top of 2018. We are pretty much done now. It's all promising, but I'm not done with Journey. We, or I, have much more inside me to come out. I will follow my heart."

 

So there you are folks, a really interesting musical time ahead for Neal and a lot to look forward to in 2018.

 

 

DIVORCE, GOD, MARRIAGE, PORN, SABOTAGE AND JEALOUSY....Just another day in Journey.

 

 

It seems something has broken the camel's back in the Journey camp, with Neal Schon filling social media today with cryptic talk of inner turmoil in the world of Journey.

 

Although officially the word is "No", something is definitely transpiring between founding member Neal Schon and long time keyboardist Jonathan Cain.

 

It appears that Jonathan's marriage to high profile Pastor Paula White in 2015 is the catalyst. It is the third marriage for both.

At the time Cain said: “She gave me the news that God loved me and wanted his son back. She spoke to the king in me and gave me new hope I could get right with God. The God I had hungered for, the Father I had been missing.”

 

White remains the personal minister to President Trump and chairs his Evangelical Advisory Board. She became the first woman ever to pray the invocation at a presidential inauguration on Jan. 20.

 

Of his recent Christian solo album Cain stated: “This is my love letter to God. It’s my thanks for the grace He gives me.”

 

Shortly after marrying, Cain was caught up in a controversy when addressing a congregation both were preaching to, when he suggested methods for wives to get to know what their husband’s like, saying: “figure it out. Now Neal has taken to Instagram and Twitter – under the recent new handle “Neal Schon’s JRNY” to post the following:

 

“Bringing it every night. I want to be elevated by whom I play with not feel like I've got cement shoes. If anyone is unhappy they are Not running My band then They should Leave. God has bigger plans.”

 

“Yes I've stated how I felt about mixing Religion and Politics and how our music is not of 1 religion - democratic or republican. This is and has been an issue with myself Mr Cain and his now wife since he married. I've had to fight this whole time to protect the Brand I built with Steve Perry way before Gregg and I picked Cain to replace himself when he wanted to retire from the road back then. Well frankly I'm tired of having to defend all by my self. Ross is no help. I continue to grow and be completely creative and want to take the band Neal Schon's JRNY on an exciting new trip musically. Yes we will always have all hits to play But there must be musical growth also. I also need to surround myself with people that care as I do. I'll never stop.”

 

“I've finally gotten to the point of Enough. Im a very patient person - so I've been told by many including Carlos Santana and he's said wow - How and Why do you do it ? I did it out of love but not receiving any back. They don't give a shit so now I don't either. Now a news item about the Woody Guthrie Center honouring Neal has been removed from all Google references and the originating news site, with Neal claiming jealousy and sabotage are at play. "Wow this national story has already been removed from google and channel 6 site here in Tulsa Oklahoma. This is totally criminal sabotage but it will not stop the actual ceremony tomorrow..."

Now it’s time to show fans, old and new, what people have been saying about THE WINERY DOGS since their first worldwide tour launched in 2013. DOG YEARS: LIVE IN SANTIAGO & BEYOND 2013-2016, which will be available in both standard and deluxe editions, is a collection of live concert footage, music videos, and an EP of previously unreleased studio tracks, is due out August 4 on Loud & Proud Records. A standard two-disc edition of DOG YEARS: LIVE IN SANTIAGO & BEYOND 2013-2016 will be available which includes one Blu-Ray disc of the 100-minute concert, eight music videos from the band’s two albums, and the DOG YEARS EP on CD. A special edition five-disc package will consist of one Blu-Ray disc, one DVD of the live concert material and the eight music videos, the DOG YEARS EP on CD, as well as two CDs of the live concert audio.

 

This is not the band’s first foray into the special edition CD/DVD world.  In 2014, THE WINERY DOGS SPECIAL EDITION was released as a two-CD collection. Disc 1 is the standard album and Disc 2 is entitled UNLEASHED IN JAPAN 2013, comprised of 10 songs recorded live in Japan during their July ’13 tour, including “Criminal,” a track previously unavailable in the U.S., along with a 16-page booklet of live photos and lyrics.  UNLEASHED IN JAPAN 2013 is also available as a stand-alone digital album. DOG TREATS: THE WINERY DOGS DELUXE SPECIAL EDITION, a limited edition release, is available in a box resembling a box of dog treats, which includes the SPECIAL EDITION collection of music, a DVD featuring four music videos and interview footage, demos from the original recording sessions, a “studio diary” written by Mike Portnoy, as well as some unique merchandise unavailable elsewhere.

 

THE WINERY DOGS’ debut album was hailed as “...one of the most intriguing releases of the year” by Loudwire.com, and in a recent reader’s poll on Revolver magazine’s website, fans called it their “Album of the Week.” After it was originally released on July 23, 2013 on Loud & Proud Records, it debuted on Billboard’s “Top Alternative Albums” chart at #3, “Top Independent Albums” chart at #4, “Top Rock Albums” chart at #5, “Top Internet Albums” at #8 and “Top 200 Albums” chart at #27.
