STEVE N SEAGULLS Heads to 'Grainsville' For 3rd Outing

Friday, August 31, 2018
Categories:
News Feed

In the current flux of the music business the new kings of the realm are the YouTube vloggers and cover artists playing the classic tracks of yesteryear. Finland’s favorite hinterland hicks STEVE ‘N’ SEAGULLS sort of unintentionally figured out how to be both.

A long story short: by nature, Steve’N’Seagulls is a Finnish band playing bluegrass(ish) versions of classic rock tracks with an astonishing arsenal of acoustic instruments ranging almost the whole alphabet starting from accordion, banjo, Cajon, double bass and so forth. Dressed in overalls, beaver hats and other clodhopper paraphernalia they look like preposterous stereotypes of your average moonshining, tobacco-chewing American corn-fed rednecks of bygone days.

Having originally uploaded their hilariously hillbillified but air-tightly played rendition of AC/DC’s seminal “Thunderstruck” on YouTube just for a laugh they found themselves in the receiving end of the shock of their lifetimes in the form of millions upon millions of viewers. The rollicking rednecks started to think there might actually be something here. After a couple more videos the joke first spun completely out of the band’s control, then grew bigger than them and has been snowballing ever since. Instead of merely cornering a predictable minuscule niche of their own, faster than a privileged internet social justice warrior can scream “cultural appropriation”, Steve’N’Seagulls ended up with a recording deal with Spinefarm Records, a continuous streak of tours and had their accomplishments plastered all over the pages and websites of all major metal media, with the likes of Guitar World, Revolver, Loudwire, Blabbermouth and Metal Sucks leading the charge.

After dropping their debut Farm Machine (2015) the band played 175 shows, toured in 20 countries and a dozen US states, made the audiences line-dance at the biggest rock festivals on the planet like Wacken Open Air, Sweden Rock, Summer Breeze, Rencontres Trans Musicales, Qstock, Nummirock and so on. Mere 16 months removed from the debut, the country dropped the foundations-shaking sophomore album, Brothers In Farms. The album was a revelation. Not only did it feature the first original Steve’N’Seagulls song amongst its 13 tracks, it conquered the #1 position on the BillBoard Bluegrass Albums chart in January of 2016, signifying not just the first time a Finnish band has hit #1 on ANY BillBoard album chart but also the chuckle worthy occasion that a band from a country your average American redneck has never even heard of, beats the American hayseeds in their own game.

After the third album the number of countries where the Gulls have burned the barns in closing in 30 and the mileage their trusty clunker of a van has had to endure can be challenged only by spaceships. And more is to come!

On their third outing, Grainsville, the Gulls’ musical evolution gets more risqué. The album comes armed with three originals, and the new song arrangements too feature some fresh, unexpected twists. Instead of just having fun and merriment non-stop, the songs feature curveball influences from World Music, such as Mariachi horns, stomping Balkanite beats and some flashy fiddling. The album even features a haunting version of the probably most infamous disco booty call ever…the way an obsessed stalker might sing it.
With another landmark album under their belt it’s time for the Gulls to tour again ‘til the wheels fall off the wagon!

TOTO Answers Weezer Covers With Smoking Rendition Of “Hash Pipe”

TOTO ANSWERS WEEZER COVERS OF “AFRICA” AND “ROSANNA”
WITH A SMOKING RENDITION OF “HASH PIPE”

August 7, 2018 - Los Angeles, CA --- Toto have recorded their personal interpretation of Weezer’s “Hash Pipe.”  The smoking rendition of the song is a direct response to the run-away success being witnessed globally for Weezer’s covers of the hits “Africa” and “Rosanna.”

Toto’s guitarist Steve Lukather shares, “We were blown away at the response Weezer got doing our old songs.  Tthey did a good job too, but we never saw hit records coming from it.  It was all started by a sweet 15-year-old girl named Mary. Then the ball started rolling it.  They did two of ours and ‘Africa’ took OFF.  It seemed only right that WE - Toto did a version of one of their songs so we started digging around, listening to a bunch of their music, which I have grown to like a lot. My 30 something kids were flipped over Weezer recording two of our songs as they are fans and we picked ‘Hash Pipe’. The irony that we were smoking hash before these guys were alive was not lost on us, and the other is it has a killer melody and a great groove.  We wanted to do something that rocked. We give you our version -- with a little of our thing on it like they did their ' thing' to ours. It is an unlikely collaboration, but some of the best ones are unexpected. Thanks to Weezer, their manager Jonathan, and their fans as they have been really nice to us…and they didn't have to be. Now I guess we have to do some crazy mash up live someday. In the meantime, continued success.  Thanks to all and hope to meet someday.  Gratitude to the fans for embracing this fun little accident. Ours drops Aug 10th, and I hear KROQ is getting thousands of requests from the teaser we recorded the other day - who knew? Kudos to Steve Porcaro for running with this as the Producer."

Keyboardist Steve Porcaro offers, “Covering Hash Pipe was an absolute blast. When I asked my neighbor, a huge Weezer fan which record we should cover, he rattled off about five of their biggest hits, but then he smiled and said ‘but there’s nothing like driving down the freeway at 80 miles an hour with ‘Hash Pipe’ cranked’.  That stuck with me when it came time to decide.”

Singer Joseph Williams cannot be reached at this time as he is too high on hashish, but previously when asked about “Hash Pipe” shared simply, “Yeah.”

From the moment of release, Weezer’s version of “Africa” was embraced overwhelmingly by the public and music industry.  At iTunes, the recording peaked at #1 in sales and continues to show strong movement.  At Spotify, the cover hit #1 on the viral chart. And just this week the track has hit #1 in the U.S on the Modern Rock chart.

Los Angeles alternative juggernaut KROQ placed Toto’s recording of “Hash Pipe” on-air to break the story of the new track’s existence.  On Friday, August 10, Toto’s rendition will be up on all streaming services, and delivered to radio for airplay globally.  For more detail keep an eye on www.totoofficial.com.

Toto has partnered with Republic on the release of “Hash Pipe.”  The company will be spearing the U.S. release of the recording.  Toto is currently touring North American in support of the band’s recent release 40 Trips Around The Sun.

In related news - Steve Lukather talks to Variety about the new single. Here's a coupl eof highlights!!

https://variety.com/2018/music/news/weezer-toto-cover-hash-pipe-africa-1...

“We could actually have a hit record at alternative, which is the funniest f—ing thing I’ve ever lived to see,” says Lukather, who explains Republic will be supporting the release with a radio promotion campaign at the format, where “Africa” has given Weezer its first radio hit in several years. Lukather admits Weezer’s use of a heavy guitar sound in their version of “Africa” has even influenced Toto’s current live rendition. “I enjoy being able to crank out the solos on that song,” he laughs. “It’s about time we put some nuts on that tune. I’m no musical snob. I listen to Miles Davis and Slipknot.”

In the meantime, Lukather is having a ball, introducing Toto’s cover of “Hash Pipe” every night with the same wisecrack. “We were smoking hash before those guys were alive.” Although these days, Lukather admits, marijuana in other forms is his go-to to kill the pain. “This cannabis cream saved my life,” he boasts. “I’d put it on my c— if I thought it would help.”

The Treatment - "Let's Get Dirty" (Official Lyric Video)

The Treatment are back! Fresh with a brand-new singer Tom Rampton, a brand-new single ‘Let’s Get Dirty’ and a co-headline tour this September with Airrace. The band are currently putting the finishing touches to their new album which is due out early 2019 via Frontiers.
New single ‘Let’s Get Dirty’ is a groove-laden, fist-pumping, unapologetic rock n roll anthem which showcases a band hungry for more and showing no signs of slowing down.
The hard-hitting five-piece based out of Cambridge, invoke the good-time swagger of band’s like AC/DC, Thin Lizzy, The Cult, and Guns N’ Roses. Formed in 2008, the band released its debut LP, ‘This Might Hurt’ in 2011.
Since then the band have released two long players ‘Running With The Dogs’ (2014) and ‘Generation Me’ (2016) After a couple of vocalists changes, The Treatment found themselves without a singer once again in 2017.  Enter into the fray, Tom Rampton.
“Tom Rampton is the vocalist we have been waiting for. His Bon Scott esque growl is a perfect match for the bands sound. Lets Get Dirty is only the tip of the iceberg. We're back. Bigger, louder and better than before.” - The Treatment
The Treatment are currently in the studio working on the follow up to ‘Generation Me’ and are promising a bigger, louder and better sound than before. With the album scheduled for release in early 2019, and the first single being released on July 23rd, 2018, it looks like exciting times ahead for these young rockers from Cambridge.
The band are full loaded and ready to hit the road with their explosive live show this September. The band have toured with the likes of Alice Cooper, Steel Panter, Thin Lizzy, Kiss, Motley Crue and Slqsh as well as gracing the stages at Download and Hellfest festivals.
