PRIMAL FEAR to return with a storming new studio album “Rulebreaker” - out on Frontiers in January!

Frontiers Music Srl is pleased to announce the worldwide release of the new PRIMAL FEAR studio album “Rulebreaker” on January 29, 2016! Available in CD, deluxe CD/DVD and – in collaboration with Soulfood Music in Germany – also on vinyl and a special super-limited vinyl edition version featuring an eagle head on the vinyl, “Rulebreaker” combines the strongest PRIMAL FEAR moments ever, with a well-balanced typical PRIMAL FEAR trademark riff-vibe, crushing songs and some very ambitious musical journeys.

Singer Ralf Scheepers says: “We have so much energy, fantastic melodies and a hell of a drum groove on each and every song, there is no doubt that the fans will love it as much as I do! And again we have achieved to combine bombastic and atmospheric orchestral sounds with soaring heavy metal riffs and licks, together with ear splitting screams and also emotional sequences. We have kept the promise of being a heavy metal band with all the trademarks for which people love Primal Fear“.

After the massive “Delivering The Black” world tour, PRIMAL FEAR started the songwriting in spring 2015 and recorded at Hansen Studios in Denmark, with producer Mat Sinner and engineer Jacob Hansen (Volbeat, Pretty Maids, Amaranthe). Mat Sinner adds: “We learnt a lot during the Delivering The Black sessions and the following world tour. We  tried to put this know-how and all the positive energy into the songs and production of “Rulebreaker. Working the
second time with Jacob Hansen and even record in his studio, gave another dimension to our sound, plus the recording comeback of founding member Tom Naumann was the right move”.

Classic and ultra-fresh Primal Fear riff-rockers like the album opener “Angels Of Mercy,” or the groove monsters “The End Is Near” and “Bullets And Tears” hit the bulls-eye from the beginning - just like the untamed speed killer “In Metal We Trust” and the metal anthem and title track “Rulebreaker”. The melodic and unique ballad “The Sky Is Burning” shows a different side of PRIMAL FEAR with a new vibe and a monster chorus. And of course, PRIMAL FEAR added again a 11-minute plus Prog Metal tour de force entitled “We Walk Without Fear”, spiced with big orchestral arrangements and complex sound designs.

PRIMAL FEAR are about to release what is definitely their strongest album ever: “RULEBREAKER”.  Don’t miss the German Metal Commando on their worldwide tour in 2016!

“Rulebreaker” tracklisting includes:
Angels Of Mercy; The End Is Near; Bullets & Tears; Rulebraker; In Metal We Trust; We Walk Without Fear; At War With The World; The Devil In Me; Constant Heart; The Sky Is Burning; Raving Mad; Final Call (Bonus Track – deluxe edition only); Don’t Say You’ve Never Been Warned (Bonus Track– deluxe edition only).

VARDIS Sign With SPV For New Album

Artist:
Release Year:
2016

SPV/Steamhammer is proud to sign one of the real and true veterans of the NWoBHM: VARDIS.

VARDIS were forged out of Glam, Punk, Heavy Metal, Blues and Rock 'n' Roll in the crucible of 1970s northern England. They are a product of rock music across three generations: inspired by the great Rockers and electric bluesmen of the 50s and 60s, learning their trade rubbing shoulders with the young guns of Hard Rock and Punk in the 70s, and achieving prominence in the 80s as part of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal. The hard, ferocious attack of their sound directly influenced the development of thrash and speed metal across North America and Europe, cited by metal giants such as Metallica and Megadeth. Never losing sight of the melodic, boogie sensibilities of their earliest influences, the Vardis brand of Hard Rock retains a unique heavy groove, and has endured as truly original.

Guitarist and singer Steve Zodiac about the signing: "Reuniting after a 30 year hiatus was a leap in the dark, but the response has been tremendous. Terry, Joe and I have hit upon a creative chemistry that makes me as excited to be recording the 5th Vardis album today as I was cutting our first demos in '76. SPV/Steamhammer have a deserved reputation for high quality releases, but it was their passion for the future of Rock and Metal as well it's heritage that meant they were the label we wanted to work with. Together we can push boundaries on the most heartfelt, hard-edged Vardis record yet, with that same rock n roll spirit at the centre of everything we do."

Olly Hahn, A&R at Steamhammer ads: "I am a child of the New Wave of British Metal and I remember well when I bought the "Quo Vardis" album back then. The band combined certain styles like Boogie, Glam and Hard Rock and created their own musical brand. I´m very proud that Steve and the band decided to sign with SPV/Steamhammer. The band is on fire and when you saw their gig at last years Keep It True festival in Germany you know what I mean!"

Steve Zodiac (Vardis), Olly Hahn (A&R Steamhammer)

The new album "Red Eye" will be released in 2016. Stay tuned for more infos within the next few weeks.

The Hellacopters reunion: "Me and Nicke have been talking about putting the original Hellacopters together. We think it's a waste not to do it because I still think the original Hellacopters can still deliver that sound."

On KISS: "Between '73 and '78, they were the best band in the world... I'd rather follow the KISS soap opera than the Kardashians, but it's almost the same." "I can't see KISS without Ace Frehley."

TOTO 'IV' CANDY274

THERE COMES A tipping point in every artist's career; a moment where decisions have to be made and a course of action needs to be taken. By the time Toto had reached this, their fourth, album matters were building to a head. Their previous two albums had commercially under-achieved and the label was getting itchy feet about their future prospects. So, it was with the greatest deliberation that the band embarked on the road to 'Toto IV', vowing to throw everything and the kitchen sink into its creation.

History shows that this album was a triumphant success, but the road to redemption was not without sacrifice, hard work and dedication. It is clear that a huge amount of creativity and talent formed the backbone of this album, songs crafted to utter perfection and all wrapped up in pin-point production. The musicianship was also impeccable, showcasing talent beyond belief, of an apparently altogether otherworldly nature.

Achieving sales in excess of triple platinum and notching up a eye-popping six Grammy awards, it also spawned three huge global hit singles, namely 'Africa', 'Rosanna' and 'I Won't Hold You Back', songs that epitomise the band's precise and concise style. It was a triumph of incredible proportions for a group that had been written off by so many and, with bitchy cruelty, labelled a faceless bunch of session musicians. It is without doubt the most important AOR album of all time.

SPECIAL DELUXE COLLECTOR'S EDITION, FULLY REMASTERED SOUND, 12 PAGE FULL COLOUR BOOKLET, 3,500 WORD ESSAY ABOUT THE MAKING OF THE ALBUM AND ENHANCED ARTWORK.

TRACK LISTING: 1. ROSANNA 2. MAKE BELIEVE 3. I WON'T HOLD YOU BACK 4. GOOD FOR YOU 5. IT'S A FEELING 6. AFRAID OF LOVE 7. LOVERS IN THE NIGHT 8. WE MADE IT 9. WAITING FOR YOUR LOVE10. AFRICA

TOTO 'ISOLATION' CANDY275

WHEN TOTO RELEASED their game changing fourth album 'Toto IV' nobody, least of all the band, expected it to resonate so loudly with the public. Sure, they were known as a fine group, a little on the highbrow tip perhaps, yet the impact of hits such as 'Africa' and 'Rosanna' placed the band on a new 'popular' plateau' one that, it has to be said, was always going to be a millstone around their necks. When you've climbed Everest is there really anything else left to ascend?

It was a situation compounded by a huge upheaval, one that was, on the face of it, perhaps a bridge too far. Reconvening to write and record this, their follow-up album, the band made the drastic decision to fire vocalist Bobby Kimball, a move that seriously endangered their momentum. Recruiting new member Fergie Frederikson (previously of pomp purists Trillion and Le Roux) 'Isolation' was recorded with cool purpose, yet harboured a certain degree of apprehension. Despite the fact that the songs and performances were very much simpatico with the Toto ethos, the end result that the record fell short of commercial expectations was no surprise.

Released in late 1984, the album is actually a fine slice of adult contemporary rock, with all the moves and grooves that you would expect from such a stellar unit, a band that was musically at the top of their game and firing on all six. Stunning tracks such as 'Stranger In Town', 'Carmen' and 'Angel Don't Cry' delivered the goods in timely fashion, very much keeping the flame alive.

TOTO 'FAHRENHEIT' CANDY276

FOR TOTO THERE
has never been a dull moment. Having experienced huge success with their debut album, followed immediately by two great but lesser performing records, the band hit the motherload with 'Toto IV', a work that propelled them into the upper echelons of superstardom, selling over three million copies and winning an unprecedented six Grammy awards. Life looked sweet, but it all came crashing down with the departure of original lead vocalist Bobby Kimball.

The band's attempt to piece things back together resulted in a commercially underperforming follow up album, 'Isolation', featuring new singer Fergie Frederiksen. So, it was back to the drawing board for album #6, a record that saw the appointment of yet another replacement vocalist, Joseph Williams. One thing however did not change; Toto's sound was very much cut from the same fine cloth, the members keen to protect their signature sound at all costs.

'Fahrenheit', originally released in 1986, is a strong, some might say jubilant, return to form, harnessing much of the style and sophistication that won them such a committed following in the first instance. Tracks such as 'We Can Make It Tonight', 'Can't Stand It Any Longer' and the hit single 'I'll Be Over You' demonstrate that the band had no intention of letting standards slip. Look out too for some remarkable guest performances from Miles Davis, Michael McDonald and Glen Frey.

TOTO 'THE SEVENTH ONE' CANDY277

UP TO THIS
point Toto's career trajectory had been subjected to a number of highs and lows. Their debut album, and 'Toto IV', contained a number of smash hit singles, helping to propel the band into the media spotlight. Yet the band would hit dry spells with commercially underperforming records that, whilst maintaining a high standard creatively, failed to connect with the public. And it didn't help that they had hired and fired two lead vocalists.

By the time the band recorded this, their seventh album, it was time to pull another rabbit out of the hat. With new vocalist Joseph Williams firmly settled into the line up they did exactly that. For the first time they also looked outside for production guidance, recruiting two members of Little Feat (George Massenburg and Billy Payne) to oversee the recording sessions, resulting in one of the strongest albums of their long and productive career.

'The Seventh One', originally issued in 1988, set a new standard for the band, with critics and fans heaping praise on its contents. Forceful and dynamic, the tracks benefitted from a sharper and more defined sound, aided and abetted by a brace of stellar songs. Tracks such as 'Pamela' (the natural successor to 'Rosanna'), 'Only The Children' and 'Home Of The Brave' hit the spot dead centre. And look out for 'Stay Away', an incredible duet featuring Linda Ronstadt, containing Steve Lukather's heaviest ever guitar riff.
SPECIAL DELUXE COLLECTOR'S EDITION, FULLY REMASTERED SOUND, 16 PAGE FULL COLOUR BOOKLET, 3,500 WORD ESSAY ABOUT THE MAKING OF THE ALBUM AND ENHANCED ARTWORK.

TRACK LISTING:  1. PAMELA 2. YOU GOT ME 3. ANNA 4. STOP LOVING YOU 5. MUSHANGA 6. STAY AWAY 7. STRAIGHT FOR THE HEART 8. ONLY THE CHILDREN 9. A THOUSAND YEARS 10. THESE CHAINS 11. HOME OF THE BRAVE

A Statement From DEEN CASTRONOVO

Artist:

"Two weeks ago, I, Deen Catronovo, made a plea deal with Salem, Oregon prosecutors. I plead guilty to one count of coercion, one count of unlawful use of a weapon, two counts of assault 4, and 2 counts of menacing. Ref: Case #15CR23974 in Marion County Court."
"Anyone who witnessed the events remains adamant that my abrasive behavior stemmed from the fact that I was at a drug-induced psychosis level of intoxication at the time of the occurrences. Otherwise, I am an easy-going guy who loves being a father and a musician."
"After my Indictment in June, I completed a 75-day inpatient treatment program at the Hazelden Betty Ford Springbrook Center, the most comprehensive drug abuse treatment center in the State of Oregon. It was at Hazelden that I quickly realized how dire the situation had become. I made a vow to myself and my family to not only stay sober but to dedicate time telling my story, speaking to promote sobriety, being a good example to my sons and advocating for the rights and assistance of domestic violence victims. I hope by telling my story I can help prevent someone else from making the same mistakes I did."
"Taking into consideration that I have been able to stay completely sober since my Indictment in June as well as the fact that I have continued domestic violence and drug counseling without any difficulties, Judge Jamese Rhodes sentenced me to four years of probation. The probation requires me to continue the domestic violence and drug abuse counseling."
"At the sentencing I apologized to my ex-fiancé, Deidra, and her family for the hurt I have put them through. I continue to wish Deidra the best. I know Deidra is not at fault for my behavior nor the consequences I have suffered because of it. Again, I want to apologize to Deidra, her family, my family, my band-mates in Journey and the fans of Journey. I’m sorry I let you all down. I have hit my bottom and I’m taking the necessary steps to ensuring that this never happens again."
"As devastating as this was for me it was far more devastating to Deidra and our children. Had it not been for her calling the police and the intervention of the prosecutors I’d probably be dead.
I’m going to focus on my family, finding happiness in sobriety and helping others who might be going down the wrong path to avoid destruction. For now I’m taking it one day at a time and looking to discover what new path God has planned for me."

ROCKETT QUEEN Reveals 'I Hate You' Video

Release Year:

Rockett Queen has unveiled the first video from their Goodnight California EP, “I Hate You.”

A fan favorite at live shows, “I Hate You” brings the story of a contentious romantic relationship to life through a simple yet highly effective concept.

“The concept was interesting to me because I didn't want it to just be a simple, on-the-nose sexual video,” said vocalist/guitarist Walter Lee. “I wanted to touch on all the different dark places we tend to go while trying to work out our issues, whether they be from the new relationship or an old relationship, so we can move on with the new. At the same time, it shows how sometimes sex can be used as a weapon.”

To do this, “I Hate You” juxtaposes images of a boxing couple with steamy sex scenes, illustrating the dichotomy of the relationship, while also interspersing shots of Rockett Queen’s dynamic on-stage performance.

“I’m extremely happy with how the video came out,” said Lee, who took on the directorial role along with Bruno at Snap The Picture, whose previous work includes Vogue, Neiman Marcus, MTV, Wall Street Journal and Tiffany & Co. “Bruno has such a great eye for detail and style that it was for the most part easy to film. Everything from his lighting to his scene-stealing camera work really brought the whole project together. The only thing missing was a final scene where I wanted to light the inside of his studio on fire for a climactic ending to the video, but he was having NONE of that, so we went with an alternate ending!”

The video took roughly two months to film and cast, a task that was beginning to feel hopeless.

“It took a special quality to really get the point across and we spent forever trying to find the right leading lady and man,” Lee said. After nearly giving up, Lee connected with former Playboy model Summer Ayala, who took an interest in the role. “After discussing the treatment with her and joking about how perfect she would be with her past experience in acting and modeling, surprisingly she jumped at the chance to do it. Even better she knew the perfect male lead in Devin Northrip an actor/model signed to her agency. With Devin's background in MMA fighting he really added a lot to the fight scenes.”

Rockett Queen’s brand of straight-up, honest rock ‘n’ roll has garnered the quartet a great deal of critical acclaim and Top 40 airplay. Performing for more than 25,000 music fans, the band’s energetic live show has won over a devoted fanbase.

Goodnight California is available now via Fade To Silence Records.

STATE OF THE NATION

G'day all,
I have just emailed all those that have pre-ordered MRCD13 or USB2 and advised them of delays on both titles.

Both will now be ready to ship the week of November 16. No more delays! There were issues with both that have now been sorted.

It has been a period of cockups here at MR central. I simply have not been able to manage everything I've put on myself to do and will soon give detailed thought as to how better run things in 2016 so I can provide the best news and reviews coverage, while also running a record label and hopefully soon...an apparel side project :)

Stay tuned for updates on that's to come for the site (tweaks planned) and MRR (plenty of new releases next year) and details of MelodicRock Fest Australia (hopefully in April) and "Rocknskull vs MRF", Chicago, October 2016.

Thanks for reading...cheers from the ass end of the world.

PS. A heavily abbreviated 2014 MelRock Awards List coming up....
