THE BABYS: Silver Dreams - Complete Albums 1975-1980, 6CD Boxset Out Nov 22

Artist:

“Silver Dreams: The Complete Albums 1975-1980” is a fitting and thorough testament to a band that truly deserved to crossover into mainstream success. As a bonus, this collection’s 6th disc kicks off with the live, promo only “Live At The Tower Theatre, Philadelphia” from a 1977 concert whilst promoting their debut record. To complete the picture we go back to their very first recordings, with the aforementioned “The Official Unofficial BABYS Album”

The Babys are probably better known for what their various members achieved later in their careers; singer John Waite’s massive solo success with the single ‘Missing You’ in 1984, and keyboard player Jonathan Cain, who would go on to be a principal member and song writer with Journey. In fact you’d be forgiven for thinking that The Babys were an American band, such was their impact on the US during the latter half of the 1970s and into the early 1980s, but their origins go back to London in 1974, when keyboard player Mike Corby met Adrian Millar, who were joined by Wally Stocker on lead guitar, Tony Brock on drums, and singer/ bass guitarist John Waite.

Although an album was recorded and shelved in 1975, included here on CD6 as “The Official Unofficial BABYS Album”, for the debut album proper they signed to Chrysalis Records in 1976 to release their eponymous debut, “The Babys”. Co-produced by Bob Ezrin, “The Babys” set their stall out from the beginning as melodic rockers, propelled by John Waite’s bluesy, soulful vocals. Bonus tracks are ‘If You’ve Got The Time’ (Alternative Mix), ‘Head Above The Waves’ (B-Side) and ‘If You’ve Got The Time’ (mono).

Released within a year, 1977’s “Broken Heart” featured the hit singles ‘Isn’t It Time’ (US #13 & UK #45) and ‘Silver Dreams’. This time the album was produced by Ron Nevison, famed for his work for The Who, Led Zeppelin, Thin Lizzy and Bad Company, as well as Chrysalis label mates UFO. Bonus tracks are ‘Money (That’s What I Want)’, ‘Silver Dreams (mono)’, plus single edit and mono versions of ‘Isn’t It Time’.

Sticking with Ron Nevison for 1978’s “Head First”, The Babys had trimmed down to a three-piece of John Waite, Wally Stocker and Tony Brock. Peaking at #22, “Head First” was their highest charting US album, and features the singles ‘Every Time I Think Of You’ (US #13) plus the title track, ‘Head First’.

Produced by Keith Olsen, famed for his platinum work with the Rick Springfield, Pat Benatar, Heart, Whitesnake, Foreigner and REO Speedwagon, by 1980’s “Union Jacks” The Babys had been joined by Jonathan Cain on keyboards and Ricky Phillips on bass. Featuring the singles ‘Midnight Rendezvous’ and ‘Back On My Feet Again’, mono versions of these tracks are also included as bonus tracks.

Sticking with producer Keith Olsen, and maintaining the same line-up as “Union Jacks”, their fifth and final album in as many years was 1980’s “On The Edge”. Featuring mono versions of ‘Turn And Walk Away’ and ‘Postcard’, The Babys split shortly after the album’s release.

Carl Sentance was born 28th June 1961 in Loughborough Leicestershire, UK and started his first band Leading Star playing guitar and singing in 1977.

After participating in several local bands, he replaced John Deverill as a vocalist in the NWoBHM band Persian Risk.
In 1981 he recorded his first single “Calling for You”, the band then recorded “Ridin High” in 1983. In 1984 Persian Risk toured with Motörhead throughout the UK and appeared on The Tube prime time TV on Ch4. In 1985 Carl recorded his first Persian Risk album "Rise up".

At this point he received an offer from manager Smallwood Taylor to join Geezer Butler (Black Sabbath) as lead singer in his solo project. The collaboration lasted from 1986 to 1988 and created demo songs, videos and various bootlegs. Carl left the Geezer Butler Band in 1988 to join the Welsh band "Monroe".

In 1988 Carl decided to return to Cardiff and joined the band Tok-io Rose. In 1990 he decided to move to Florida to form the band "Ghost" with Welsh ex- UFO and WASTED guitarist Paul Chapman. In 1995 Carl returned to the UK.

From 1996 to 1999 he sang in various musicals, such as JUDAS in Jesus Christ Super Star and the AMERICAN in Chess. From 1999 to 2002 Carl became the lead singer of the Swiss Hard rock band Krokus, with whom he recorded the album Round 13. In 2004 he then joined the Whole Lotta Metal Theatre Tour for 2 years.

2006 Carl joined up with Deep Purple's keyboardist Don Airey for his solo project "Don Airey and Friends" and has co-writen with Don ever since. Albums include "A Light in the Sky", "All Out", "Keyed Up" and "One of a Kind".

In 2009 Carl recorded his first solo album MIND DOCTOR! That led him to try and reform the original Persian Risk but at the time the members were busy with other projects so Carl put a brand new Persian Risk together and came up with two great albums "Once a King" and "Who am I", which will be released by Escape Records in Summer/Autumn 2019.

In 2015 Carl became the new singer for the band NAZARETH after founding member Dan McCafferty had to retire due to illness. More recently Carl has recorded Nazareth's latest studio album "Tattooed On My Brain" (song credits include "Never Dance With The Devil", "Change", "State Of Emergency", "Silent Symphony" and "Don't Throw Your Love Away"). Carl is currently touring all over the world.

A NEW TOMORROW’s Debut ‘Universe’ Out December 6

Formed in London by vocalist/guitarist Alessio Garavello (ex-Powerquest/Arthemis) and bassist Andrea Lonardi, the two were later joined by drummer Tim Hall and guitarist Michael Kew. A New Tomorrow have spent the past few years honing their sound into the potent mix of uplifting, hard-hitting, melodic hard rock that you now hear today.

Harnessing influences from the likes of musical heroes such as Alter Bridge, Foo Fighters, Metallica, and Green Day, the band have been defining their sound during years of shows across the UK, Italy, and elsewhere in Europe. Offering fast and furious riffing coupled with super melodic hook lines, they have an original and cool take on the hard rock style. A New Tomorrow are indeed a sorely needed breath of fresh air in the current scene.

Drummer Tim Hall says, “Several years of amazing times, full of both ups and downs, not just as a band but as great friends, gave us the foundation to write something special for this record. "Universe" became the only title to encompass all our experiences as individuals and as a band, with themes - from fear and doubt to taking back the pursuit of our hopes and dreams - that I think all of us can identify with. The time we took gaining experience as a band, before writing "Universe", has really allowed us to find our own space within the music allowing our own individual influences to come across a lot more than in our previous releases. Expect our heaviest, yet most dynamic range of songs to date! With intricate, interwoven grooves, alongside blankets of melodic guitars and powerful vocals. We feel invigorated playing this music and can’t wait to unleash that energy with you live in 2020!”

A New Tomorrow’s love for life and go-getter attitude, both on and off stage, complete the picture of one of the hottest bands to come out of the British underground in recent times.

Now, the band gets to share the next chapter in their evolution worldwide through their debut full-length album “Universe”. Buckle up and enjoy the ride!

JAMES DURBIN’S THE NEW STRANGE Return With Classic 'Into The Night'

JAMES DURBIN HAS RELEASED THE ASTOUNDING REWORKING OF BENNY MARDONES 80'S CLASSIC, 'INTO THE NIGHT' - ONE OF THE BIGGEST POP HITS OF ALL TIME.

The New Strange, may very well be one of the most appropriately named projects to come along in a long time.

The New Strange is a unique musical partnership between James Durbin, of American Idol fame (and one who showed that a killer rock singer can be taken notice of in the tough world of Idol) and journeyman rock guitarist Alex Grossi. Grossi is known for his work with artists like Quiet Riot, Steven Adler, Dizzy Reed, Hookers & Blow, Bang Tango, Jani Lane, Skid Row and more!

Alex and James have worked both individually and collectively on various projects, with music placed with Walt Disney Touchstone Pictures FX, NBC, VH1, ABC, FOX and many others writing original material as well re-working existing tracks to fit with the producer or director’s vision.

After hearing the Benny Mardones classic “Into The Night” playing on a Waffle House jukebox James and Alex on a whim decided to take a stab at recording a “Rock” version of the double platinum hit song. Upon hearing their rough mix it was clear that what they ended up with was more than just a simple “re-make” and they sent the track to Mardones himself!

“James Durbin & Alex Grossi have done something that NO other artist ever has done with my 'Into The Night’, they found the key to making it an honest to God rock ballad. I am simply over the moon!”

'Into The Night' is unusual for being one of only 10 recordings in history to ever ascend to the Top 20 of Billboard Hot 100 chart twice; first in 1980 and again in 1989 and to this day is one of the top 25 most played songs on American Radio.

“With this project we haven’t set out to do anything more than what WE want to do not what we think will make other people like it” says Durbin.
“It’s nice to do something that reminds you why you got into this crazy business to begin with” adds Grossi.
“I’d consider this to be more of an idea or a concept than an actual band, the refreshingly unique way that this whole came about has been very inspiring both artistically and professionally.”

To back it up they have also released the arena-ready rock anthem “Tomorrow Never Comes” as well. ‘’Tomorrow Never Comes’’ fuses the best Rock Sounds of the 90’s with a classic Arena Rock fueled vibe.

Both tracks were recorded and produced by Alistair James who most recently worked with the Joe Perry/ Alice Cooper/Johnny Depp project “Hollywood Vampires”.
