KANSAS Serves Up 'Leftoverture' 40 Years Ago

Dallas, TX - Sept 20, 2016.  North American syndicated Rock radio show In The Studio with Redbeard is serving Leftoverture on the 40th anniversary of the breakthrough that gave Kansas classic rock statehood.

By 1976, it was go big or go home for this intrepid six-member band from Topeka, Kansas. Their first three albums had shown significant growth in all areas of songwriting, musicianship and production, but as you will hear from ex-guitarist, keyboardist, main songwriter Kerry Livgren, guitarist Richard Williams, original singer, keyboardist Steve Walsh, ex-violinist, singer Robbie Steinhardt and drummer Phil Ehart, they fully realized that if their fourth album Leftoverture did not spawn a hit and sell significant quantities, the party would be over, a tab that had already ballooned to over $175,000 of debt.

Thankfully Leftoverture delivered big. Really big. Over four million albums were sold off the hit “Carry On Wayward Son” and radio favorites “What’s On My Mind”, “The Wall”, and “Miracles Out of Nowhere”.  Kerry Livgren shares with In The Studio program host Redbeard just how special the recording of Leftoverture was and how, for the band, it’s never quite been duplicated.

“There was a kind of magic feeling around the recording of Leftoverture that years later, as we recorded our subsequent albums, we kept saying, ‘What was it that we did that made this come out that way?’  We went back to the same studio, we used the same place, the same people, but we weren’t able to recapture that. So I attribute it to the songs.”  - Kerry Livgren

Kansas original guitarist Richard Williams also details how the band’s upcoming fortieth anniversary tour will feature Kansas playing the entire Leftoverture album songs in order every night, some which have never been performed in concert until now.

New GOTTHARD Studio Album Due January 13

Quarter of a century ago, GOTTHARD set out to conquer the world with pure, straightforward rock and gigantic ballads and they’ve pulled off the trick: With 15 No.1 albums and plenty of multi-platinum awards, they’re not only the most successful Swiss band but also a staple in the global spotlight. Especially the much-deserved Swiss Music Award from last year has shown that the band’s nowhere near finished: GOTTHARD’s past 25 years have only been the first round – it’s definitely time for a new album in 2017!

GOTTHARD are currently refining their 12th studio album at the Yellow House Studio in Lugano. The title will be served straight to your desktop as soon as it’s decided. The third album with lead singer Nic Maeder is produced by Charlie Bauerfeind (Helloween, Blind Guardian among others) and Leo Leoni – so the dream team’s at it again: “We were all very happy with the workflow and the result of the BANG! production – so it was pretty clear that we wanted to give the great collaboration another shot!” The record will be released on January 13, 2017 on Musikvertrieb in Switzerland and internationally via PIAS – which means that the first Friday the 13th next year won’t spell bad luck. Quite the opposite.

ANNIVERSARY TOUR: KICKS OFF FEBRUARY 2017

Immediately after the release, the tour’s kicking off at full speed as well: From February 9, the big “25th Anniversary” tour is champing at the bit to turbocharge the new record with plenty of live rock ’n’ roll. The tour starts in Ravensburg and lays rubber all across Europe with full entourage. Danish rock band Pretty Maids will be Special Guests at all shows – the presale of this milestone birthday is already in full swing. Those who haven’t secured tickets yet, should check out Leo’s message again: “25 years of GOTTHARD – that means 150 songs to chose from, not mentioning our new album – that’s not going to be easy! However, we’ll select only the best for a proper anniversary party!”

STYX's Ricky Phillips guests on Ep. 260 of One On One With Mitch Lafon.

LINK TO INTERVIEW: http://www.spreaker.com/user/talkingmetal/1on1-mitch-lafon-260-ricky-phillips-styx

In the show's only interview, Ricky Phillips of STYX discusses the band's LIVE AT THE ORLEANS ARENA LAS VEGAS DVD, their upcoming Las Vegas 'Renegades In The Fast Lane' residency with special guest Don Felder, Ronnie Montrose, Deen Castronovo, Bad English, working with Coverdale/Page and much more.

Quotes from the interview:

'Renegades In The Fast Lane' (time 7.14): "We don't want it to be just another show, so we're discussing that."

(time: 8.27): "It's going to be fun - whatever we end up doing with the set list."

Ronnie Montrose (time: 9.59): "He always gave everything he had and good, bad or ugly - he was honest. He was a crazy wacky talented motherfucker. He was just amazing and a dear dear friend. I miss him greatly."

Talk about Deen Castronovo and 'the big pocket' starts at 13.36...

Bad English talk starts 16.19 -

When told that Bad English should get back together he said... (time 20.20): "I'll go as far as to agree with you. It was an amazing band. Things happened quickly and easily for that band. We wrote songs quickly. We got songs recorded quickly. It was just easy to do. It was a great great combination of guys."

Coverdale/Page talk starts at (time: 21.46)...

(time 22.06): "It was never supposed to be the bass player. I came along to help them play bass and help construct songs that they were writing for the project."

(time 23.36): "As we worked on the music for about five months - we really developed this 'thing' that was pretty special... We would play those songs and it was recorded (of us rehearsing) to see if arrangements were working and gosh man - there was fricking oodles of magic in those recordings. It was just a great time."

What did he learn from David Coverdale & Jimmy Page (time: 25.44): "It solidified... I had already learned because I, with a fine tooth comb, gone over both those guys catalogs and gleened everything I could. It had already become a part of my DNA as a player."

THE RADIO SUN - Biography 2016

Australian melodic hard rockers The Radio Sun return with their new album 'Outside Looking In'. The boys continue where they left off as vocal harmonies, soaring guitar solos and catchy choruses dominate. Ex Danger Danger vocalist Paul Laine lends a hand with production duties and also features on the song Wink and Smile with a dual lead vocal alongside lead vocalist Jason Old.

Guitarist Stevie Janevski was also buzzed to have Brett Garsed of John Farnham and Nelson fame play a guest solo on the track Falling For you. The first single 'Switch Off The World Tonight' reminds us of classic Damn Yankees with its catchy intro and feel-good chorus.

Outside Looking In showcases a progression from the band's debut album Wrong Things Right and the critically acclaimed Heaven Or Heartbreak. There's a good balance of uptempo songs with some superb ballads that sees the band throwback to bands like Firehouse and Trixter along with a good dose of Jani Lane/Warrant school of song writing.

The band is rounded out with the thunderous rhythm section of Robbie Erdmanis on bass and Ben Wignall on drums...no slouches in the vocal department either!
The Radio Sun will be launching the new album with upcoming worldwide live dates scheduled in Australia, U.S.A, U.K and Japan.

Things are definitely looking up for the boys from down under! www.theradiosun.com
