Pink Floyd Suffers A Momentary Lapse Of Reason On 30th Anniversary Of Comeback

Artist:

Podcasts & Radio

Dallas, TX - Aug 31, 2017.  North American syndicated Rock radio show IN THE STUDIO with Redbeard: The Stories Behind History’s Greatest Rock Bands gets the story behind one of Rock history’s most contentious and public rights disputes, and one of the biggest comebacks in rock history. The story behind Pink Floyd’s 1987 comeback album A Momentary Lapse Of Reason.

Amidst some of the most successful and celebrated albums of the Seventies, creative and personal tensions had been building until Pink Floyd disintegrated during the making of 1982’s The Final Cut.  By 1985 the only musical output from any of the members of Pink Floyd had come in the form of solo albums, and in December of that year Roger Waters, who created the concepts and the lyrics to such quintessential rock masterpieces as The Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here and The Wall, would announce his departure, triggering a noisy two year legal battle for the rights to Pink Floyd.
In the end a David Gilmour fronted Floyd would emerge producing A Momentary Lapse of Reason in September ’87. Critical response was surprisingly lukewarm, but a sold out stadium tour and two # 1 rock singles with “Learning To Fly” and “On The Turning Away” proved that, as far as the worthiness of a Waters-less Pink Floyd, the fans had the only vote that matters. Drummer Nick Mason is joined IN THE STUDIO with guitarist, singer, songwriter Gilmour, who readily admits to show producer and host Redbeard the pressure that he felt going forward.

“Lurching into the future bearing the mantle of Pink Floyd without Roger in 1987 was a tough one, as anyone can imagine... You’re right to say that I was confident at the end and happy. Anyone would be happy and confident in the end when our moving forward and doing what we did, making the album, doing the tour, was justified.”  - David Gilmour

Target was an exciting US Quintet from Memphis that featured the legendary Jimi Jameson (Cobra / Survivor) on vocals. They released two albums on A & M in 1976 (Target) and 1977 (Captured). However, it has come to light that a third album was recorded in 1979, entitled 'In Range' before the band split in 1982.

While vocalist Jimi Jamison did go on to greater heights - thanks to his stints fronting Cobra and, of course, Survivor not to mention releasing an impressive catalogue of solo records Target were the band  with whom he first made the progression from playing the bars and clubs to touring as a major label act opening for the likes of Black Sabbath and Styx. However, the debut Target LP wasn't the singer's first album recording credit. Nor bassist Tommy Cathey's either. Having started to work together in a band called Omaha in the early 70's an opportunity to hook up with another project was just too good to miss, as the latter explains: 'After a stint in Omaha with Jimi, we both wanted to explore the chances of original music,' recalls Cathey. 'David Beaver had been doing original music for a couple of years so we gravitated to that. We did two records with D. Beaver, of which only one was released ('Combinations' on the TMI label in 1973). Right after the second record, Jimi and I were ready to take the splash into forming our own band to do original music, so we teamed up with guitarist/organist Buddy Davis and formed Target. We still played cover music to pay the bills, but all along writing our own music and trying to be a good rock and roll band!' The band toured substantially back then and it was a shame that the band split before that third release saw the light of day

'In Range' was recorded in the autumn of 1979: it took the band about two to three weeks to do this third album. What an album it is though, this is Target's best recording, chock full of quality songs and musicianship. Its criminal it has laid dormant for so long, but here it is for you on Escape Music.

Here is what bassist Tommy Cathey says about the recording:
'I think what I'm most proud of with the third album is the maturity of our songs and the developing sound we were getting in the studio. This album doesn't sound like the first two and I consider it to be the best of the three! We produced it ourselves and I think you can tell the distinction from the first two albums. The third album is all Target with no outside help or direction! I am very proud of our efforts and I hope all our fans and a new generation of fans will appreciate the music!'

Exciting times indeed!

Babylon A.D. are proud to be one of the few hard rock bands from the late ‘80s/early ‘90s that are still operating with all of their original members: Derek Davis, vocalist/songwriter, guitarists and songwriters, John Matthews and Ron Freschi, drummer Jamey Pacheco and bassist Robb Reid. The band formed in 1987 and to celebrate their 30th Anniversary, the band will release their new album, “Revelation Highway” on November 10, 2017.

Today Babylon A.D. presents the first video for the first song from the album “Crash and Burn.”

Follow the band on Spotify: http://radi.al/BabylonADSpotify to be alerted when new singles from the album are released and to add “Crash and Burn” to your favorite playlists.

Vocalist, Derek Davis on the new album:

“This record kicks ass, from the opening track ‘Crash and Burn’ to the last track ‘Saturday Night’. The band had a blast making the album and a lot had to do with original founding member lead-guitarist John Matthews rejoining the band. He really lit the fire that got the bands blood pumping to make a new record. For me it was awesome to produce and mix such a cool record. It’s very hard hitting yet melodic, with some great lyrical storytelling and great stand out tracks like, ‘One Million Miles’, ‘Tears’, ‘Rags to Riches, and ‘She Likes To Give It’. The songs are so catchy and memorable on the first listen I know our fans are gonna love it! And of course there are some burning guitar leads to keep the metal heads happy. The band is very grateful that Frontiers Music Srl listened to the tracks and felt the same way about them as we do and offered us the opportunity to get this record out. We can’t wait to hit the road and play the material live.”
Featuring 10 tracks of the energetic classic hard rock the band is known for, “Revelation Highway” is sure to please fans of the band’s classic early material. The band will play shows in the UK and Germany this August/September to kick off promotion for the album with more touring planned both in the U.S. and UK/Europe!

Formed in 1987, Babylon A.Dhail from San Francisco, CA. In 1988, Babylon A.D. caught the attention of Arista Records President and music industry legend “Clive Davis”, who signed them at a live showcase in Los Angeles. Their self-titled debut was released in fall of 1989 and included their hard rock classics “Bang Go The Bells”, “Hammer Swings Down”, and “The Kid Goes Wild”. The band scored three #1 songs at metal radio and reached gold sales status in the U.S. on their first release, which spent 38 weeks on the Billboard Top 200, peaking at #46. Their sophomore effort, “Nothing Sacred” was released in 1992 and produced two more Top Ten metal songs, “Bad Blood” and “So Savage the Heart”. Constant touring throughout the early 1990s and several MTV videos made them one of hard rock fans’ favorites.

After spending several years on Arista Records the band signed with Apocalypse Records in 1999 and released “Live In Your Face”, a compilation of live tracks recorded at various cities’ throughout the United States and on July 4, 2000, the band released their third studio album, “American Blitzkrieg”. In 2008, the band released “In The Beginning” on Apocalypse/Perris Records, a compilation of songs from the original demo tapes that secured them their recording contract with Arista Records. In 2014, Babylon A.D. returned with a four song E.P., “Lost Sessions/Fresno, CA 93”, a collection of songs that had been found on an old reel tape that had never been released.
