The amazing new album ‘Announcing the End’ Out October 13

Check out the new single ‘Vindication’ here – https://soundcloud.com/despotz/sparzanza-vindication/s-vZVWy

Formed in 1996, Sweden’s Sparzanza have, over the course of two decades and seven albums, built a formidable fanbase, brought together by the band’s dark, heavy and melodic metal, driven by huge guitars and unforgettable hooks.

New album, ‘Announcing the End’ captures the sound of a band at the height of their powers. From the ball-breaking title song, through the melodic charge of ‘One Last Breath’ onto the powerful first single ‘Vindication’, ‘Announcing the End’ is very much a statement of intent from a band with plenty of road miles under their belt. With appearances at a number of well-known European festivals, including Sweden Rock and Sauna Open Air, as well as numerous European tours.

More on Sparzanza;
"Announcing the End" - does the title seem like a punch to the gut? Good, that's the point!
You will feel the punch of the band’s music straight away when you check out ‘Announcing the End’!

"Announcing The End” sees Sparzanza taking their years of experience and channelling it into a new, harder hitting and more focussed direction.

Having a solid career behind them gave them the space to look at their past work and really get to grips with what Sparzanza needed to be in 2017 – the results can be heard on their superb new album.

‘We left for Spain and worked on the album under a strict work schedule’ Johan Carlsson (bass) comments,  ‘Instead of piecing all the ideas afterwards, we wrote everything together. It was 9 to 5 every day and it felt like a competition to produce. We met in the morning and divided into groups which then worked on writing together. In the evening, we would meet up and go through everything together. The next day we would switch groups and it continued so for the whole week. Very relaxed and unbelievably creative.’

”To do something completely new with ‘Announcing the End’ was a real challenge” adds drummer Anders Åberg. ‘Horrifying but at the same time enormously inspiring. To speed up a process that took forever to only a week really turns up the pressure to deliver. For our fans and ourselves. To push yourself daily with a clear-cut deadline was extremely cool and created new ideas both expected and unexpected.’

Rather than stick within their ‘safe haven’ of Europe, where the band have a large and loyal fan base, with ‘Announcing the End’ the band are aiming to expand their global reach – no limits in place!
First single ‘Vindication’ has just hit radio and the band will be gearing up to hit the road in support of ‘Announcing the End’ across 2017/2018.

20th Century Music Emerges With Long Lost Gems From BLACK BAMBI And TAROT BEYOND

Artist:

A new reissue label focusing on the 1975 - 1995 era of popular - and not always so popular - music, has thrown their hat into the ring.

20th Century Music is a German - American partnership operating as a division of Vanity Music Group that will concentrate on both licensing material from major and independent record companies as well as uncovering undiscovered gems along the way.

Over a year in the planning stages, the label has lined up several releases with the first being the popular German power metal band from the early 1990's, Tarot (forced to change their name to TAROT BEYOND for this release). The band wound up with the opportunity to have their debut album produced by Accept drummer Stefan Kaufmann at Dierks Studios but let it slip away because "we were young and green so we missed out on a great chance. Our own fault but what can we do?" says the band.

Second out of the gate is the long lost album from Los Angeles hard rockers BLACK BAMBI. The band was signed to Atlantic Records shortly after forming, built up a major buzz based on a wealth of press before being unceremoniously dismissed from the label before their album had a chance to hit the streets. Their story is finally told, courtesy of frontman Steven Ray Anastos, inside the album's booklet.

Other releases scheduled before the year is over and in early 2018 include the solo effort, Yonge at Heart from Pet Hate frontman ALISTAIR TERRY, DRIVE's unreleased iDefi material, LION's Dangerous Attraction, JULLIET's self titled album from 1990 and COLD SWEAT's Break Out as well as releases from PARISH (Crimson Glory adjacent) and WICKED WITCH (pre-Savatage). All releases will be silver pressed (no CD-R's ever) and will come with 12 - 16 page full colour booklets with lyrics, rare photos, band interviews and when available, bonus tracks and DVD material.

The self titled releases from both TAROT BEYOND and BLACK BAMBI are slated for release on August 18 and can be pre-ordered from Vanity Music Group. The company's website, still a work in progress, can be found at 20th Century Music.

Digital fans can currently order BLACK BAMBI's album on iTunes and TAROT BEYOND's release on Amazon  and other digital platforms.

ANNOUNCE FALL U.S. "SYNTHESIS LIVE" TOUR TO LAUNCH OCT. 14

EVANESCENCE return this fall with SYNTHESIS, their fourth studio album, slated for a Fall 2017 release. The group today, August 14, announced the "Synthesis Live" tour will launch this fall beginning October 14 on the west coast (confirmed dates below). Like the album, "Synthesis Live" will feature a reimagining of some of EVANESCENCE's best-loved songs with the spotlight on full orchestra, electronics  combined with the band and Amy Lee's virtuoso piano and voice.

"This is a total passion project for me. There are so many layers in our music, underneath the huge drums and guitars," explains AMY LEE of EVANESCENCE. "I've always wanted to shine a light on some of the gorgeous David Campbell arrangements and programming elements in our songs, and that idea snowballed into completely re-doing them with full orchestra, not just strings, elaborate programming and experimentation. This will be our first time touring with orchestra and I'm so excited to perform this way-really focus on the vocals, and the emotion and the story we've built over the years. I'm also really excited about the new material on the album. Besides the two new songs, there are some really beautiful instrumental in-between moments. The whole thing flows like a big, dynamic soundtrack."

"Synthesis Live" fan and VIP pre-sales are on-sale beginning tomorrow (Tuesday, August 15) with general on-sale--beginning Friday, August 18. Every ticket sold will come with a download of the new album, SYNTHESIS when it is released later this fall.  As an added bonus, ticket buyers will also receive songs from the album prior to the album's release date, beginning with a stunning new reworking of the band's biggest hit, "Bring Me To Life," which will be available for download to all ticket buyers as well as on streaming services and in digital stores beginning this Friday (August 18).   A variety of VIP ticket packages are available to ensure fans obtain the best seats in the house.  Other VIP benefits include the opportunity to meet and enjoy a champagne toast with the band, attend their soundcheck, and receive exclusive merchandise items.  For full tour details go to: www.evanescence.com. Expect EVANESCENCE to announce an international tour soon.

AT&T is sending customers to the front of the line with AT&T priority pre-sale ticket access beginning Tuesday, August 15 at 10AM via the AT&T THANKS program. For complete AT&T pre-sale details visit att.com/frontoftheline.

The two-time, GRAMMY Award-winning group is currently in the studio finishing the new album through August with producers Will Hunt and orchestra arranger and composer David Campbell. In addition to the re-imagined catalog songs, the forthcoming SYNTHESIS album will feature two new EVANESCENCE songs.

2017 promises to be the biggest year for EVANESCENCE yet, as their intense live performances and timeless songwriting combined with a powerful live orchestra and electronics will truly deliver a transcendent experience.

Guitarist RIK EMMETT Triumphs In Acoustic Duo Performances With DAVE DUNLOP

Artist:

Tour News

Rik Emmett just sold out City Winery Nashville, several weeks prior to the August 26th date.  This will be his first time ever playing Nashville, and the Canadian singer-songwriter-guitarist’s show went clean on August 7th.  Last year, Emmett sold out City Winery Chicago two months prior to the date of the show.  Other sell-outs within the last 2 years include Rams Head Onstage in Annapolis, Tralf Music Hall in Buffalo, The Magic Bag in Detroit, Sellersville Theater and the Tin Angel in the Philadelphia area, Daryl’s House in Pawling, NY, and Tupelo Music Hall in Londonderry, NH (now with a brand new 500-capacity location, where Rik will be appearing for two nights this coming December).  A YouTube video of the old Triumph classic ‘Magic Power’, https://youtu.be/NcVqAHw23aE, shot at Daryl’s House in May of 2015, has over 210,000 views: social media has played a key role in Emmett’s surging success in concert club settings.

One of the most versatile guitarists around, Emmett has been inducted into a few Canadian Halls of Fame for his gold & platinum work with the power rock band Triumph.  Counted amongst the world’s finest guitarists, he has performed alongside legendary performers such as George Benson, Randy Bachman, and Steve Vai. He continues to surprise critics and fans with his vast musical expression, which runs the gamut from rock to jazz to classical to folk – all of which are on display in acoustic duo shows with guitarist Dave Dunlop.  It’s as if the seasoned rock star has found a truer calling in a stripped-down setting.

“Rik Emmett’s performances at The Magic Bag are always intensely personal & profoundly intimate,” notes General Manager Robert Littleton.  “He pulls out all the stops, everything from the Triumph classics to the latest recordings with Dave Dunlop.  He still gives everything he’s got, and Rik lets Dunlop stretch out & play along with him.  The two really complement each other; I couldn’t think of a better dynamic, or a better accompanist than Dave.  Triumph fans are passionate, and music fans always have their opinions about how a show was done.  Not once have I ever heard anything bad about the acoustic show.  When you listen to some of the songs stripped down, something resonates, almost as if you’re hearing the song for the first time.  Take “Lay It On The Line” – a fan favorite, a crowd pleaser – it’s done so true, you’ll want to play air guitar for a chord or two.  On a personal note, Rik & Dave are really easy going & super easy to work with.  They're Canadian gentlemen and the kind of folk you welcome back like family.”

“Rik is a performer’s performer,” adds Donal McCoy, owner of the Tin Angel in Philadelphia where Emmett has performed more than a dozen shows over the years.  “He doesn’t just do a show, but rather takes the audience on a journey, perfectly intertwining stories with fan favorites, both old and new.”  Bruces Ranes of Sellersville Theater concurs, “Rik Emmett with Dave Dunlop sound exceptional… strong vocals with stellar fret-work as they perform a cross section of Triumph classics and solo material.  In addition to selling very well, they’re a pleasure to work with.”

Rik Emmett and Dave Dunlop will be performing at City Winery Atlanta on Friday, August 25th.  A few tickets are still available, but don’t wait too long… it will surely sell out.

Statement from ART NATION:

Hey guys!
By now some of you may have heard the news about Christoffer, Rebecca and Carl leaving the band. It’s very unfortunate, however it was something we all felt had to be done because of our different visions for the band.
This happened quite a while ago, and since then we’ve filled their spots with new fantastic people that has been with us on our tour the past few weeks.
It has been lots of work for all of us, and our plan to announce it all together was apparently misunderstood when our old members posted their own press release yesterday.
While we wish our old bandmembers the best, we put our focus on our new line-up(To be announced!) that will finnish the remainder of what has been an amazing tour so far.
We feel stronger than ever and we can’t wait to tell you guys about all nice things that are coming up soon. A big thank you to all fans and supporters out there, we love you and look forward to seeing you out there!
Much love!
/ Alexander - Singer & Founder of Art Nation.

Another One From The Vaults - BLACK BAMBI

Artist:
Friday, August 18, 2017

News Feed

What do you do when all of your plans go sideways? Picture this: It's 1990 and you're in one of, if not the most hotly tipped rock band in the United States. Tons of press, sold out club shows around Southern California and girls lining up as far as the eye can see.

And then … nothing. The ride comes to an abrupt halt and you're left scratching your head and wondering where and how it all went wrong.

Such is the story of Los Angeles' one time favorite sons BLACK BAMBI. Says the band's frontman, Steven Ray Anastos, “Basically, we were orphaned. John Carter, our A&R guy, good friend & mentor, parted ways with Atlantic Records right as we were completing the album. The timing could not have been worse. We were left high & dry and there was no coming back from that.”

Nearly thirty years after the band's only album was shelved it sees the light of day through 20th Century Music.

Let's go back to the beginning, though, shall we?  The band initially came together when San Diego transplant Steven Ray Anastos left his band City Slick only to discover than another band from his hometown, Aircraft, had also called it a day.  Having admired that band's material, Anastos decided to call guitarist Ronny Jones to see if they might put something together to test the waters and soon after Steven and the bulk of Aircraft were in business as BLACK BAMBI.  "We took off right out of the gate writing new songs and rehearsing nearly every single night. It was a very exciting time and we were very optimistic that we had a sound that was unlike anyone else in Los Angeles at that time” recalls Anastos.

Playing their first show at The Whiskey A Go-Go on New Year's Eve 1987, the band ran through a handful of shows before the rhythm section was ousted in favor of bassist John Grimmett and drummer Dave Casey. “When Ronny & I started looking for a new rhythm section we basically went back to the guys we had played with in previous bands. Dave was in my band City Slick and in Ronny’s band Aircraft, and John and I had played together briefly in Mickey Knight. It came together pretty damn quick and we never looked back.”

At this point the band's sound became darker and more focused and a buzz was swiftly building throughout the major labels. 1989 would see the band sign with the legendary John Carter at Atlantic Records and they were immediately sent into Enterprise Studios with highly sought after producer Beau Hill behind the board for an album that was scheduled for an early 1990 release. Steven says, “We had the time of our lives during that recording process. It was really a dream come true to be recording with a successful producer such as Beau Hill, and in such a legendary studio. Lots of platinum albums came out of that room and we had very high hopes that we would be the next in line. It was also the high point of the band’s relationship as friends.”

Regarding the band’s songwriting process, Steven says: Our songs always started with Ronny writing a cool guitar riff, which seemed to come very easily to him back then, and I would write the melody and lyrics. I was reading lots of Vampire books at the time and was very much into poetry, Jim Morrison, etc., so lots of the lyrics are a little bit twisted and moody. Again, things always came together effortlessly, and John & Dave certainly added a solid backbone to our sound.

Opening slots with both Badlands and The Black Crowes followed and BLACK BAMBI were primed for major success. And then the bottom fell out.  John Carter left Atlantic Records soon after and suddenly the band had none at the label in their corner. Leaving the label shortly after, they began showcasing for other major labels with everyone having a different vision for the band than they had for themselves. Steven
recalls: “We were broken hearted, man. Our dreams were slipping though our fingers and there was absolutely nothing we could do about it. Naturally, the band began to splinter and within a few months we were done. Since that time, nearly 30 years actually, we have received countless emails & inquiries from all over the world asking if the LP is available and where it can be purchased. We truly appreciate your interest and your excitement about our lost album, and now we can say yes, it is available either on Limited Edition CD or digitally on iTunes. So, come and get it …

Good things come to those that wait, indeed.

SONS OF APOLLO
FEATURING MIKE PORTNOY, DEREK SHERINIAN, RON “BUMBLEFOOT” THAL,
BILLY SHEEHAN AND JEFF SCOTT SOTO
LAUNCH DEBUT TRACK “SIGNS OF THE TIME”

Last week saw the announcement of SONS OF APOLLO, the highly anticipated new band featuring former Dream Theater members Mike Portnoy and Derek Sherinian, Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal (ex-Guns N’ Roses), Billy Sheehan (The Winery Dogs, Mr. Big, David Lee Roth) and Jeff Scott Soto (ex-Journey, ex-Yngwie Malmsteen's Rising Force).  Their debut album, PSYCHOTIC SYMPHONY, is due for release on October 20 via InsideOutMusic / Sony, and now they are pleased to reveal their first track titled “Signs of the Time.” Listen now here:

Mike comments: "’Signs Of The Time’ was the very first thing myself, Derek & Bumblefoot wrote when we got together to begin writing for SONS OF APOLLO in March of this year.

‘It starts with this heavy, brutal Bumbleriff (initially coined ‘Korntera’), then goes into a cool verse with a two-part vocal melody that I wrote sung by Jeff and myself, which eventually opens up to a HUGE vocal hook in the chorus that Jeff wrote (sung in three-part harmony by Jeff, myself and Bumblefoot).

“The middle section riffs are a few things that Derek brought in and show why he is the most BADASS keyboard player in the biz (playing the keys like a guitar player on fire!) and then we have the long extended breakdown and guitar solo which shows why Bumblefoot is one of today's greatest GUITAR HEROES! This album is going to get him the recognition he truly deserves and this particular guitar solo is one of the tastiest, most insane solos I've EVER heard.

“So all in all, this song has a little bit of everything that makes SONS OF APOLLO so special...great heavy riffs, amazing solos with individual instrumental virtuosity and a big, catchy chorus with more hooks than a tackle box!!

“I figured this would be a great ‘first taste’ to introduce the world to this amazing new supergroup...and there's a whole lot more of different musical styles and twist & turns still to come all throughout the album."

The debut album, PSYCHOTIC SYMPHONY, is now available to pre-order on 2CD Mediabook (featuring a second disc of instrumental mixes), Gatefold 2LP vinyl + CD, Standard Jewelcase CD & digital download. Pre-order now here: http://smarturl.it/SonsOfApolloPS.

The full track-listing of PSYCHOTIC SYMPHONY is as follows:

1. God of The Sun
2. Coming Home
3. Signs of the Time
4. Labyrinth
5. Alive
6. Lost In Oblivion
7. Figaro’s Whore
8. Divine Addiction
9. Opus Maximus

An album teaser can be seen on InsideOutMusic’s YouTube page here: https://youtu.be/kPN2DttzlZQ

PSYCHOTIC SYMPHONY was produced by the dynamic production duo of Portnoy and Sherinian, also affectionately known as “The Del Fuvio Brothers,” which is the nickname given to them over 20 years ago during their time together in Dream Theater.

SONS OF APOLLO got together very organically, as Portnoy explains: “Derek and I reunited shortly after I left Dream Theater in 2010 and we put together an all-instrumental touring band with he and I, Billy Sheehan, and Tony MacAlpine. That was my first time working with Derek since the ‘90s when he was in Dream Theater and it was just great to be working with him again. Ever since that tour, which was really just a one-off live thing, he has been nudging me to start a real, original, full-time band. The timing just had never been right, because I had too many other things on my plate. Long story short, the time was finally right to take the bait and put together a band.”

“Mike and I work at a relentless pace in the studio,” continues Sherinian. “The music is modern, but we have an old school soul. What is unique about SONS OF APOLLO is that we have true rock n’ roll swagger along with the virtuosity-- a lethal combination!”

But what to call the next great supergroup? “Derek was mainly the one behind the name,” says Portnoy. “I have a list that I keep on my phone of about a hundred different band names, which I constantly have to refer to every time I have a new band every year (laughs). So, I pulled up the list and Apollo was one of the names on the list. It was a word that both of us really liked. We started fiddling with different variations of the word. One of the original band names we were working with was Apollo Creed, the character from the ‘Rocky’ movies, but after lots of different discussions on different variations, Derek suggested SONS OF APOLLO and it seemed to stick. Apollo is the God of Music so with that in mind it seemed like a fitting name.”

Mike Portnoy, Derek Sherinian and Billy Sheehan previously toured together in 2012 and 2013 as PSMS (along with guitarist Tony MacAlpine), playing all instrumental versions from each of their previously recorded music. SONS OF APOLLO is the next logical progression by adding a vocalist and creating all-original material. The band incorporates the progressive style and individual technical prowess that Portnoy & Sherinian shared together in Dream Theater combined with the swagger and groove of Van Halen, Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin.

“I have known Mike and Derek for a long time, so when they came to me with Sons of Apollo, I jumped on this straight away,” says Thomas Waber, Label Manager/A&R International of InsideOutMusic. “However, the album they ended up recording exceeded my already high expectations by a long mile! We couldn’t be happier about it!”

SONS OF APOLLO will hit the road in 2018 for their first worldwide tour.

“This is a real band,” Portnoy declares. “This is going to pick up for me and Billy where The Winery Dogs left off, in terms of this being the next logical full-time thing for us. I’m not saying The Winery Dogs have broken up, because we haven’t, we’re just on a break. SONS OF APOLLO is absolutely going to be a full-time band and we plan on touring all over the world all throughout 2018 and, honestly, it is the priority for all five of us.”

Sherinian agrees, “We will go on a worldwide crusade in 2018 to bring SONS OF APOLLO to as many people as possible. Apollo was the God of Music, and we are his mighty offspring!”
