History:
It all started in 2007, as the brainchild of former Scudiero/Token keyboard player Mikael Rosengren. He had written a bunch of songs that he wanted to record. He got in touch with guitarist Janne Stark (Overdrive, Grand Design, Locomotive Breath etc) and asked him to lay down some guitars. Janne loved the songs and got more and more involved in the process, and the seeds of Constancia were sown.
They now felt it was time to get a full band together. Janne contacted drummer Peter “TrumPeter” Svensson (ex-Mercy, Faith), with whom he had worked in Overheat, Locomotive Breath and Mountain of Power. Mikael drafted Jaded Heart bassist Michael Mueller, and they tried out various vocalists before finding David Fremberg. David is also fronting progressive rockers Andromeda and had also worked with Janne on his first Mountain Of Power album. They overcame the vast geographical distances, with Mueller living in Germany, and the debut album “Lost And Gone” saw the light of day in July 2009. The producer, Fredrik Folkare (Unleashed, Token, Eclipse), was carefully selected after the band had received outstanding test mixes from great people like Beau Hill, Pontus Norgren and Pelle Saether. Fredrik was just right for the band’s “melogressive” metal (melodic, yet a bit aggressive and a touch progressive). The album received rave reviews in magazines like Classic Rock, Rock Hard, PowerPlay, Fireworks and Rock It.
The geographical distances however made it difficult for the band to get a good live situation going.
In 2013 the work process for the band’s second album started. Since Michael Mueller was busy with other musical projects the band had to find a new bass player. Janne, David and drummer Peter are from the same region, and they figured getting a bass player from that region would be a good idea. Why not someone they already knew? Enter Linus Brahamson, also a member of Andromeda. Instead of rushing out a new album, the band let the process take some time and the band spent 2013 and most part of 2014 working on the songs, recording and mixing. The way the song-writing process goes is: Mikael writes the basic structure of the song with some vocal and lyrical ideas, then sends it to Janne, who pitches in with some additional ideas, arrangements, melodies and lyrics. David then adds some of his vocal melodies. This time the production was also kept under the Constancia umbrella. Since David is working as a producer, why not let him do it? This was a very smart plan, since David already had a lot of great production ideas.
Final Curtain? Is this the end? No way! The title track is about the end of a life but also that there may be something new and exciting behind that final curtain. A lot of the lyrical themes on the album reflect things and thoughts of everyday life such as not being true to yourself, political hypocrisy, the birth of a child, long bus rides with people not of your choice, love and the fascination of fear.

OVERDRIVE in Japan ' the tour that almost wasn't...
Swedish classic heavy metal band OVERDRIVE are just back from their first Japan tour. A tour that almost ended before it started...
Three days before the band were leaving for Japan, Saturday August 9, they were playing a show in Karlshamn. On the way to the venue, guitarist Janne Stark received a call from drummer Kenta Svensson. Being an actor in a wild west show, he was accidently shot in the hand with a powder gun and badly injured two of his fingers on his right hand making it impossible to play.
Instead of canceling, the band did an acoustic set. Kenta was hoping it would heal before the Japan-trip, but on the Sunday, he received a message from the hand surgeon, he would not be able to play for months, if ever, or even go to Japan. This was a HUGE blow both to Kenta and also the rest of the band.
However, the show had to go on, the band could not cancel the Japan trip! They asked Kenta's son Linus Svensson (Care Of Night) if he could fill in, but unfortunately he had other engagements. The band then asked guitarist Kjell's son Jimmy Lexe (whom Janne had also played with in Locomotive Breath) and also Peter TrumPeter Svensson (Constancia, Mercy, Faith, Locomotive Breath), who both would check the possibility to fill in. Sunday evening Jimmy called and said he could reschedule his engagements, and later on so did Peter. Since Jimmy was first and he's "family" he was in.
Overdrive now only had two days to find Jimmy an air ticket, preferably together with the rest of the band, which they did! Then it was the fact that they had to order and receive a Japan rail pass for Jimmy before the departure two days later! Thanks to Japanspecialisten Sverige it arrived in a registered letter the day before the trip!
Monday the 11th, bassist Pelle Thuresson, guitarist Kjell Jacobsson and Jimmy did a short rehearsal to go through the 14 songs they were to play. On the flight over, on the 13th, Jimmy was only listening to Overdrive. Plugging the songs!
The band arrived in Tokyo late evening on the 14th and the first show in Tokyo was on the 15th. Fortunately Shuji Matsumoto of Rubicon Music had arranged a rehearsal studio, which enabled the band to rehearse for the first time in the morning of the 15th. One rehearsal proved that Jimmy had done an EXCELLENT homework! The band then played a show at Birth Club in Tokyo, at Zeela in Osaka and an in-store unplugged show at the newly opened HMV Record Shop in Shibuya, Tokyo.
Grand Design was formed in 2006 by singer/producer Pelle Saether, and the band’s first 1st album “Time Elevation” was released by AOR Heaven in October 2009. The album featured guest spots from guitarists Janne Stark and Tommy Denander. The release gained massive success and was awarded ‘best album’ and ‘best song’ by BeRockRadio and received numerous top 10 positions for “best album 2009”. Several concerts, including the prestigious FireFest in Nottingham, UK proved that Grand Design also deliver live. Pelle Saether comments: ”Since we all love Def Leppard, it will always be an influence we use to spice things up.”
Two years later, it was time for Grand Design’s second album – “Idolizer”.
Pelle says: “We knew we had found a formula to make an 80’s rock record work in the 21st century – so why change it?” With new anthems like “Get On With Action”, “OughtoGraph” and “Your Love’s A Runaway”, “Idolizer” followed up the fans expectations. Grand Design again proved that the songs and sound of 80’s rock belong in your players and on the big stages.
In 2012 the line-up saw singer Pelle Saether and guitarist Dennis Vestman, now flanked by guitarist Janne Stark (Constancia, Overdrive etc), bassist Mats Vassfjord (Chris Laney Band, Scaar) and drummer Peter Hermansson (Talisman, John Norum, 220 Volt). The band continued playing shows and festivals, building a solid following.
Early 2013 the band recorded two new songs, featuring guest singer Susie Päivärinta (of Lili & Susie), of which the song “Baby It’s You” (Promises cover) was released as a digital only single and video in June 2013. The band also welcomed new drummer Magnus Ulfstedt (Eclipse, Jimi Jamison, Talisman, Lion’s Share etc), who made his debut in the video. The band also performed at festivals such as Skogsröjet and Rock Out Wild.
Early 2014 Grand Design started working on the third album, and we are now proud to present the band’s third outing: Thrill Of The Night. This album has definitely taken the band to a whole new level, musically, song wise and regarding production. The band is packed with potential hits and choruses that you will wake up in the middle of the night singing! Sorry about that, but that’s how it is. From the opening chords of U Got Me Good, followed by the anthem rocker “Rawk ‘N’ Roll Heart Attack”, to up-tempo rocker “10 Outta 10” and the big epic balladry of “When The Greatest Love Of All Kicks In”. This time the band has also had some outside help in the song writing, where melodic rock icon Erik Mårtensson (Eclipse, W.E.T) has co-written the hit style “Who’s Gonna Rawk U Right” and “You’re The Only One”. The production, again by singer Pelle Saether, is big, ballsy yet ambient enough to probably make even John “Mutt” Lange proud.

Swedish heavy metal band OVERDRIVE celebrate the 30 year anniversary of second album 'Swords And Axes'. The band played the Muskelrock Festival last month and will now bring the weapons to Japan! Two shows have been booked, at Birth Shinjuku in Tokyo on August 15 and Club Zeela in Osaka on August 17. More shows in Sweden are also currently being booked. - It's funny, playing in Japan was always one of our goals back in the eighties, and now, thirty years later, we're finally playing there, says guitarist Janne Stark.
The band, formed in 1980, still features four of the five original members. However, original singer Pelle Thuresson is now handling the bass, while the the band's lead singer, Per Lengstedt (Portrait, ex-Unchained) joined in 2003. To commemorate the anniversary the band plays mostly material from the first two albums, and Pelle does share some of the lead vocal duties with Per handling the bass. OVERDRIVE released one EP and two albums before disbanding in 1985. After the re-union in 2003 the band has made several releases such as 'Ressurected', 'Let The Metal Do The Talking' and 'Angelmaker'. Later in 2014 High Roller Records will also release a vinyl re-issue of the debut 'Metal Attack' featuring an extra LP of old demo tracks never before released on vinyl. A new album is also in the pre-production stages, slated for a 2015 release. The line-up features Per 'PerilOz' Lengstedt: vocals, Janne Stark: guitar, Kjell Jacobsson: guitar, Pelle Thuresson: bass and Kenta Svensson: drums.
Discography: 'Reflexions' (MLP), 'Metal Attack' (LP/CD), Swords And Axes (LP/CD), Mission Of Destruction ' Live (CD), Overdrive (7'), Resurrected (MCD), Let The Metal Do The Talking (CD/LP), Angelmaker (CD), The Angelmaker's Daughter (LP)
