Rainbow Legend JOE LYNN TURNER's 'Street Of Dreams - Boston 1985' Live Album To Be Released

Categories:
News Feed

Los Angeles - In a career that spans nearly 30 years and includes over 60 album credits, Joe Lynn Turner remains one of rock and roll's most distinctive, soulful and expressive vocalists. Best known for his work with hard rock band Rainbow, during his career, Turner fronted pop rock band Fandango, and had stints with Yngwie Malmsteen and Deep Purple. From the mid 1990s, he worked with various musical groups (Mother's Army, Hughes Turner Project, Sunstorm, etc.), while pursuing a solo career.

Now, much to the excitement of Joe Lynn Turner fans worldwide, Cleopatra Records is issuing a vintage unreleased live album from the vaults of legendary hard rock vocalist of the mighty Rainbow titled “Street Of Dreams - Boston 1985”. Recorded during the tour of Turner's newly released debut solo album “Rescue You”, the set includes a couple of nods to Rainbow with brilliant renditions of “Stone Cold,” (Rainbow's first ever Top 40 US single) as well as "Street Of Dreams!”

Says Joe about the concert recording, “That night at the Boston Paradise, it was outstanding. I can remember seeing the audience and I remember there was an awkward pillar - I guess it was a support column in front - not directly in front, but enough to block some of the view. But the stage was an actual concert stage. Aerosmith and all those guys used to always play there, the Paradise.

“So I can remember actually going on and playing the set, how it felt because it was absolutely exhilarating, and the audience was just crazy.”

A year out from departing Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow, whom he led through three classic albums earlier in the decade, Turner had just released his first solo album, “Rescue You”, produced by Roy Thomas Baker. This live show was, for obvious reason, weighted towards Rescue You.

Joe recalls, “This was our first tour out, and I’m not sure if we were opening for someone at the Paradise, but if we were, then they had a pretty difficult time because the crowd was absolutely bananas for us, and we were hot. We were really on top of our game, the whole band and it sounds it, you can hear it, everyone is playing with incredible energy and enthusiasm and very precise.”

Accompanying Turner was the band that recorded the album, a tight unit of Bobby Messano (guitar, background vocals), Alan Greenwood (keyboards), Chuck Burgi (drums) plus one newcomer, Barry Dunaway (bass).

Track List:
1. I Found Love
2. Losing You
3. Soul Searcher
4. Young Hearts
5. Endlessly
6. Rescue You
7. Stone Cold
8. Street Of Dreams
9. Feel The Fire
10. Guitar Solo / Good Girls Gone Bad
11. Get Tough
12. On The Run
13. Them Changes

SUNSTORM Storm Back With 'Edge Of Tomorrow' May 13

Artist:
Friday, May 13, 2016
Categories:
News Feed

Frontiers Music Srl is pleased to announce the release of SUNSTORM's fourth album entitled 'Edge of Tomorrow' on May 13th, 2016.

SUNSTORM is Joe Lynn Turner's succesful AOR / Melodic Rock project, something that came about for the first time in 2006 when Frontiers President Serafino Perugino wanted to dig up some unreleased gems that JLT wrote during the late 80's and early 90's.

The very good reviews and acclaim which surrounded the debut self-titled release was the fuel that ignited three more records, until the project was momentarily shelved when Joe started working on the RATED X supergroup with Tony Franklin and Carmine Appice.

After the release of the RATED X album, Joe wanted to go back to the more melodic material of SUNSTORM, but also wanted to retain some of the harder edge which the RATED X album had. So he asked producer and songwriter Alessandro Del Vecchio (Hardline, Edge of Forever) to come up with some new songs in that vein. Del Vecchio joined forces with Simone Mularoni, guitar player of Italian prog metallers DGM. Together they developed songs which were exactly what Joe wanted, so it was a natural process to move forward and record another SUNSTORM album. As usual, other songwriters, such as Soren Kronqvist and Daniel Palmqvist completed the array of individuals involved.

Joe Lynn Turner says: 'This new Sunstorm album is the best of the series! We went harder... stronger... and heavier than ever before without losing the integrity of what the project is about...I call it Melodic Metal! The songs are very well crafted, the messages are profound, the performances amazing..and the sound is incredible! All involved can be very proud of such a great music. I urge anyone who loves great music to check out "Edge of Tomorrow", you won't be disappointed!'

The resulting album shows a slightly new direction for SUNSTORM, which still features organic and very strong melodies as a trademark. Enjoy!

'Edge of Tomorrow' includes the following songs: Don't Walk Away From A Goodbye; Edge Of Tomorrow; Nothing Left To Say; Heart Of The Storm; The Sound Of Goodbye; The Darkness Of This Dawn; You Hold Me Down; Angel Eyes; Everything You've Got; Tangled In Blue; Burning Fire.

Nikolo Kotzev's BRAZEN ABBOT Anniversary Release Problem

Artist:

NIKOLO KOTZEV's planned archival BRAZEN ABBOT release has struck trouble, with vocalist for the original release JOE LYNN TURNER stating his disaproval with the idea and suggests he will seek legal advice. See below...

Here's both press releases. First, Brazen Abbot:

The 20 Years Of Brazen Abbot is an anniversary package containing a CD and a DVD. The release celebrates two decades of the bands existence, since it was founded by the Bulgarian multi-instrumentalist, composer and producer Nikolo Kotzev.

The CD contains 15 studio tracks compiled from the five studio albums released to date:

Live And Learn          - 1995
Eye Of The Storm       - 1996
Bad Religion               - 1997
Guilty As Sin              - 2003
My Resurrection         - 2007

The Live DVD was shot at a concert at the Amphitheatre in Plovdiv, Bulgaria. The DVD also contains 15 songs. True to his philosophy, Kotzev has not tempered with the live recording in post production, so there are no studio overdubs on this live production.
Kotzev has included tracks featuring almost all singers and players, who have been a part of the band.

The singers are:

Glenn Hughes
Joe Lynn Turner
Goran Edman
Thomas Vikstrom
Jorn Lande
Tony Harnell

The players are:

Nikolo Kotzev  - Guitars, violins, keyboards, percussions
Ian Haugland  - Drums
John Leven  - Bass
Mic Michaeli  - Hammond
Nelko Kolarov  - Keyboards and Hammond
Svante Henryson  - Bass
Wayne Banks  - Bass
Mattias Knutas  - Drums

The compilation is a balanced blend of "rockers" and ballads, offering many of the most memorable songs created throughout the years and will certainly be a delight for all Brazen Abbot fans.  This release can be purchased at the Brazen Abbot site:

http://www.brazenabbot.nostramusic.com/

And JOE LYNN TURNER's immediate response:

FROM JOE LYNN TURNER REGRADING RECENT NEWS ABOUT A BRAZEN ABBOT COMPILATION

Attention to all!
I have just been made aware of a “Brazen Abbot” CD/DVD 20 years compilation release. I am very saddened to learn that this “homemade bootleg” release was done without my knowledge, consent or approval. I consider this a breach of trust and fair business practice.
I am looking into the legal aspects of such release and would urge everyone not to purchase this “unauthorized” product until any and all legal points are negotiated and agreed upon.

I am shocked and disappointed at such unethical practice by Mr. Kotzev and feel this is a direct “stab in the back.” I have never seen this DVD and was not aware of the fact that Mr. Kotzev decided to release this DVD on his own without any regard or respect to me. This is unacceptable and appalling!
I will ask you all to share this information with everyone to support all true artists who still keep the integrity and standards in this crumbling music industry. Your choice is the only decision that can make a difference.
I appreciate your consideration and understanding in this matter and thank you for your continued love and support!

Sincerely,
Joe Lynn Turner

UPDATE:

In a late twist, there's news from Nikolo that conversations with JLT are taking place.

Swedish guitarist Magnus Karlsson (the man behind Allen/Lande, Starbreaker and more) returns with his second “Freefall” album, featuring another cast of all-star guests and powerhouse melodic metal/hard rock songs.
Following the acclaim of his solo debut, Magnus had a lot to live up to here. In my opinion, he does so with ease, even if this time the emphasis is slightly different than the first opus.

Kingdom Of Rock is just as powerful and as perfectly produced and mixed as the debut, but this is a more commercial record with a hard rock heart – even some powerful ‘melodic rock’. The metal edge has definitely been toned down.
Some of that has to do with the guest vocalists involved. All music and lyrics as well as everything but the drums (added by Jaime Salazar), plus all the production is from the hand of Magnus. That’s really quite extraordinary for an album of this caliber.

Kingdom Of Rock (Jorn Lande, vocals) is classic Magnus/Allen Lande and the perfect opener. Also my favourite track on the album just for Jorn’s killer vocal and the melodic hook in the chorus.
Out Of The Dark (Jakob Samuel, vocals) is something resembling The Poodles but all metal baby! Jakob’s voice stretches that bit further to hammer out a great hard rock song here.
No Control (Joe Lynn Turner, vocals) is JLT at his best also. The track is essentially a heavy melodic rock track with a great catchy chours.
When The Sky Falls (Tony Martin, vocals) is a slower, moodier and heavier track and Tony sounds brilliant. A nice melodic metal track that has a hint of Dio to it.

Angel Of The Night (David Readman, vocals) is another chunky hard rocker, this time with PC69’s David Readman controlling the sound. And as with the other tracks, Magnus let’s David’s personality shine through.
I Am Coming For You is another fairly commercial hard rock track, with Magnus himself on vocals. He really does have a good voice, he could easily carry this project by himself.
Another Life features current Masterplan vocalist Rick Altzi and swiftly manages to sound better than anything off the last Masterplan album.

Never Look Away is brilliant. Another fast moving melodic hard rocker, with the brilliant Tony Harnell delivering a Starbreaker friendly track. His voice and Magnus’ sound are just wonderful to hear each time. A great chorus takes it over the top.
A Heart So Cold could be one of the surprise tracks. Harem Scarem’s Harry Hess goes metal for this all-in rocker with a big chorus and even bigger vocals. Harry adapts brilliantly to the heavier sound and rips through this.
The Right Moment (Rebecca De La Motte, vocals) is a big symphonic ballad that could easily be on a Within Temptation or Nightwish album. Love it!
The album closes with Magnus on vocals again. I’m really enjoying the tone of his voice and Walk This Road Alone is a heavy, slightly progressive metal track that takes the album out on a heavy (and classy) note.

This is an easy one. If you have any Starbreaker/Allen Lande/MK produced album in your collection, then this is a buy or die release.
If you like melodic metal or hard rock with a heavy but melodic edge and can appreciate some of the best vocalists in the business doing their thing, this also demands buying.
A thoroughly enjoyable album that is consistently strong throughout, despite the use of different vocalists which can sometimes bring a project unhinged. Not on this occasion!

MAGNUS KARLSSON'S FREEFALL Returns With 'Kingdom Of Rock'

Release Year:

Swedish axeman MAGNUS KARLSSON is back with the second album of his solo project FREEFALL entitled “Kingdom of Rock”!
Out on Frontiers in November!

Frontiers Music Srl is pleased to announce the release of the sophomore album from MAGNUS KARLSSON’S FREEFALL “Kingdom Of Rock” on November 6th.

Magnus Karlsson is the mastermind behind several Frontiers Music Srl productions, including the successful initial ALLEN/LANDE trilogy, STARBREAKER, BOB CATLEY, KISKE/SOMERVILLE and several others. In 2008, he joined the German Heavy Metal icons PRIMAL FEAR and with them has toured the world and recorded three successful albums that climbed high on the charts in several countries.

For this new album – aptly titled “Kingdom of Rock” - Magnus enlisted again a dream team featuring some of the  strongest melodic singers in metal and hard rock! Magnus says: “I didn’t plan to make a second Free Fall album at first but one album wasn’t enough for my wish list of singers… so after the summer last year I started on some ideas. Without pressure or a deadline… just for fun. So I started to look at the list with singers and thought if can I get these guys on board I will work harder than ever before to make the best album I could. I wanted not only some of the best singers I ever heard, but singers that meant a lot to me and that have given me inspiration. For example: Tony Martin and Joe Lynn Turner… I grew up with their music and that made me the musician I am today. It feels unreal to make music with them now!“

The final list includes TONY HARNELL (Skid Row, TNT, Starbreaker), RICK ALTZI (Masterplan, At Vance), DAVID READMAN (Pink Cream 69, Voodoo Circle), JORN LANDE, JAKOB SAMUEL (The Poodles), JOE LYNN TURNER (Rainbow, Malmsteen, Deep Purple), TONY MARTIN (Black Sabbath), HARRY HESS (Harem Scarem) and REBECCA DE LA MOTTE. Rounding out the line-up on the album is Jaime Salazar on drums with production duties handled by Jacob Hansen (Volbeat, Primal Fear, Amaranthe, Pretty Maids and more).

Magnus says, “There is a lot more work in this album. Normally I don’t throw away good ideas. This time I skipped great ideas and replaced it with something better. I don’t want to do the same thing over and over. I want to do something better. I also had a bigger budget for the production and was able to work in great studios. Jacob Hansen did a fantastic job with the mix and mastering and the sound is just what I always wanted. This is not about having big names on the album, this is simply about making the best music I possibly can for the best singers I know!”

The final result “Kingdom of Rock” is a Melodic Metal blast which is truly one of the top releases of its kind in 2015!

Any project featuring Joe Lynn Turner on vocals is going to get my attention. Add in Joe’s Mother’s Army partner Carmine Appice on drums; Carmine’s Blue Murder partner Tony Franklin on bass and star guitarist Karl Cochran and you have me standing to attention, ready to salute whoever’s idea this was.
But, what looks good on paper must deliver in reality. Rated X thankfully does just that. Under the direction of producer Alessandro Del Vecchio (who also adds writing credits, all keyboards, organ and backing vocals to his list of credits), the band delivers a knock out blues driven classic hard rock album.

Not unexpectedly, the style here is a mix of Joe Lynn Turner solo, classic Rainbow as well as adding parts of the Mother’s Army and Blue Murder sound.
The band overcame Karl’s recent health scare by bringing in Nikolo Koyzev and Daniel Palmqvist to complete guitar parts on several tracks, but Karl remains the driving force behind the album’s power.

It’s a joy to hear Appice and Franklin as a rhythm section again. The two really pack a punch on this record, with Tony’s bass groove rolling through the album and Carmine is simply all over these songs. Why add one drum fill when you can add three? I love it; the powerful rhythm section just adds so much power. And Joe Lynn Turner has seldom sounded better, his authorative rasp in full control.

Get Back My Crown is a ripping opener that throws me back to the debut Mother’s Army album.
This Is Who I Am is one of two tracks taken from the unreleased JLT/Chris Antblad collaboration. The song here is beefed up from its original form, with some shredding guitar and a ton of extra drum fills.
Fire And Ice is an organ drenched classic Zeppelinesque 70s rocker with drums again belting through the speakers through the chorus while Tony Franklin’s bass glides over the verse.
I Don’t Cry Anymore is another great JLT driven rocker, with the singer sounding in classic form.
The very cool and moody Lhasa has to be inspired by the Blue Murder track Valley Of The Kings. This seven minute epic has a very similar vibe, especially with Franklin and Appice involved.
Devil In Disguise is a pretty simple rocker after the complex preceding track.
You Are The Music is a quality slower track with a nice melodic edge.
Peace Of Mind is another quality untempo melodic rocker.
Maybe Tonight is a classic AOR track – the second from the JLT/Antblad sessions. Here it has been rocked up a little and expanded musically and is another highlight.
On The Way To Paradise picks up the tempo and the rock attitude once again for a straight ahead tour de force. Great guitar solo too!
Our Love Is Not Over is the big sentimental ballad of the album. Classic JLT here.
Stranger In Us All closes the album by firing us up again with crashing guitars and pounding bass and lots of organ once again.

A very fine debut collaboration from the folks that form Rated X. I hope this can continue as an ongoing touring and recording band.
The only point I would raise overall would be that the production could be described as a bit muddy in places and the drum and bass sound does vary a little from track to track.
But great energy in the performances, despite the challenges of getting the record recorded and mixed.
You wouldn’t want the album any longer than the 60 minutes delivered, but that said, there’s no filler here.

RATED X: HARD ROCK's NEWEST
ALL-STAR BAND RELEASES SELF-TITLED DEBUT
Premieres 2nd Official Music Video,'Fire and Ice'

Line Up Includes Vocalist Joe Lynn Turner;
Drummer Carmine Appice; Bassist Tony Franklin
and Guitarist Karl Cochran
.

Frontiers Music Srl, the label known for embracing new music from legendary Rockartists, returns with yet another impactful band: RATED X. The self-titled debut album features songs built upon a classic Hard Rock foundation, with a distinctly contemporary edge. The album can be purchased via Amazon: http://geni.us/RatedXAMZ or iTunes: http://geni.us/RatedXiTunes

The band has shot and released its 2nd official music video, this time for the song 'Fire and Ice', one of the album's most powerful tracks.  A straight performance clip, the edgy black and white video focuses on the band's musicianship and Turner's soaring vocals. View the video for ' Fire and Ice' here:  http://youtu.be/HLtxuXhdluE
RATED X was formed at the suggestion of Frontiers' President Serafino Perugino, who mentioned to singer Joe Lynn Turner that a band of the highest caliber musicians should be assembled to create an album of classic Hard Rock music.  Turner, the former lead vocalist for both Rainbow and Deep Purple and a solo artist in his own right, agreed, and the search for the right players was on. Carmine Appice, who already had a relationship with Frontiers, was on board immediately.  A true percussion icon, Appice's resume is one that Rock legends are made of: Vanilla Fudge, Cactus, Ozzy Osbourne, Rod Stewart, Blue Murder, King Kobra and others.

Appice's former Blue Murder bandmate and bassist, Tony Franklin (also known for his work with The Firm, Jimmy Page, Paul Rodgers, David Gilmour, Kate Bush, and Whitesnake), signed up next. After a lengthy search for the right guitarist, they settled on long-time Turner collaborator Karl Cochran, who has also worked with Ace Frehley, and worked in the past with Joe Lynn Turner on his solo albums.

The self-titled debut album is remarkable in that it sounds like a band that has worked together as a unit for years. The songs are powerful and the performances are tight and innovative.  Frontiers in-house producer, Alessandro del Vecchio, not only handled studio production but added keyboards on several tracks. Pat Regan (Mr Big, Deep Purple, Gotthard, Kiss, Doro) mixed the album.

Critics are already heaping praise on the release, including Powerplay, who said 'Rated X are a real treat; seen through the prism of history, we are bound to add all sorts of references, but this doesn't wallow in them, it exults. The petition for a continuation starts here''. Hard Rock Haven proclaims 'If you're a Rainbow staunch aficionado or an avid Blue Murder fan, you know you can't miss Rated X anyway, but if you're just into the contemporary melodic hard rock that has its back-to-roots moments too ' be sure to include it on your list of must-haves.' Melodic Rock declares 'Joe Lynn Turner is in devastating form, ripping through 12 energized classic rock tracks drenched in organ and driven by some tough riffing from Karl Cochran. Drummer Carmine Appice and bassist Tony Franklin reunite for the first time since Blue Murder, delivering the precise ear drum shattering rhythm section expected of both journeymen.'

'I love the hook and I love what it is saying.' Much of the album was recorded in different cities, using current recording technology, however, it never strays from a solid band sound. 'The songs will stand by themselves,' says Karl Cochran.' They are strong songs.'
Adds Tony Franklin about the project: 'There is a lot of talent in this band and we respect each other. Some of us in this band have known each other for 20 to 30 years. So, it didn't feel like something that had just been put together randomly. It feels real.'
