JOHNNY MONARCO Departs ENUFF Z NUFF

From the good folks at: METAL SLUDGE // EXCLUSIVE: In what appears to be a mutual decision, Monaco said he has no plans to return, as founding bassist Chip Z’Nuff has taken over lead vocals

LOS ANGELES — Johnny Monaco, lead singer and guitarist for Enuff Z’Nuff, has announced he is out of the band in the wake of Enuff Z’Nuff playing in New York this past weekend without him, Monaco said just a few minutes ago in a Metal Sludge exclusive.

“Initially, I just wanted to take a break because of a problem with my thumb — it’s called “trigger thumb” — to figure out my treatment options, but now I’m not sure if I want to come back because it looks like I’m not needed,” Monaco said.

Chip Z’Nuff took over lead singing duties at two small-scale in New York. Check the youtube video below.  Tony Stoffregen and Tony Fennell are playing guitar in the video.

Furthermore, Monaco said he felt snubbed in not being included in a new record contract for Enuff Z’Nuff that Chip just signed with top European label Frontiers Records.

“I’m disappointed in not being involved,” Monaco said. “Frontiers wants old songs with (original singer) Donnie Vie. Chip is saying this is going to be a new record, but it’s not. It’s old stuff with Donnie. Part of the deal, I think they’re giving Donnie money obviously because he wrote the songs. That’s another thing. If I was the writer, it would make more sense for me to still be in the band.”

Monaco said he spoke to Z’Nuff two days ago and that Chip said he wants to do the singing now.

Z’Nuff was not available for comment.

Monaco, from Chicago, was in Enuff Z’Nuff from 1996 to 2008, then rejoined in 2013.

“Now I know how Donnie felt,” Monaco said. “Me and him have the same kind of issues with the whole thing.”

BRIAN JOHNSON Issues Statement

As many AC/DC fans know, the remaining shows for the 2016 AC/DC Rock or Bust World Tour, including 10 postponed U.S. shows, are being rescheduled with a guest singer.  I want personally to explain the reason because I don’t believe the earlier press releases sufficiently set out what I wanted to say to our fans or the way in which I thought it should be presented.

On March 7th, after a series of examinations by leading physicians in the field of hearing loss, I was advised that if I continue to perform at large venues, I risked total deafness.  While I was horrified at the reality of the news that day, I had for a time become aware that my partial hearing loss was beginning to interfere with my performance on stage.  I was having difficulty hearing the guitars on stage and because I was not able to hear the other musicians clearly, I feared the quality of my performance could be compromised.  In all honesty this was something I could not in good conscience allow.  Our fans deserve my performance to be at the highest level, and if for any reason I can’t deliver that level of performance I will not disappoint our fans or embarrass the other members of AC/DC.  I am not a quitter and I like to finish what I start, nevertheless, the doctors made it clear to me and my bandmates that I had no choice but to stop performing on stage for the remaining shows and possibly beyond.  That was the darkest day of my professional life.

Since that day, I have had several consultations with my doctors and it appears that, for the near future, I will be unable to perform on stage at arena and stadium size venues where the sound levels are beyond my current tolerance, without the risk of substantial hearing loss and possibly total deafness.  Until that time, I tried as best as I could to continue despite the pain and hearing loss but it all became too much to bear and too much to risk.

I am personally crushed by this development more than anyone could ever imagine.  The emotional experience I feel now is worse than anything I have ever in my life felt before.  Being part of AC/DC, making records and performing for the millions of devoted fans this past 36 years has been my life’s work.  I cannot imagine going forward without being part of that, but for now I have no choice.  The one thing for certain is that I will always be with AC/DC at every show in spirit, if not in person.

Most importantly, I feel terrible having to disappoint the fans who bought tickets for the canceled shows and who have steadfastly supported me and AC/DC these many years.  Words cannot express my deep gratitude and heartfelt thanks not just for the recent outpouring to me personally of kind words and good wishes, but also for the years of loyal support of AC/DC.  My thanks also go to Angus and Cliff for their support.

Finally, I wish to assure our fans that I am not retiring.  My doctors have told me that I can continue to record in studios and I intend to do that.  For the moment, my entire focus is to continue medical treatment to improve my hearing.  I am hoping that in time my hearing will improve and allow me to return to live concert performances.  While the outcome is uncertain, my attitude is optimistic.  Only time will tell.

Once again, my sincere best wishes and thanks to everyone for their support and understanding.

Love,
Brian

EASY ACTION Get Ready To 'Drop The Bomb'

Swedish Glam Rock legends EASY ACTION will release their new single and the video for the new track “Drop The Bomb”  on May 27.

This spring marks the 10th anniversary of EASY ACTION’s comeback show at the Sweden Rock Festival in 2006. The Swedish glam pioneers ZINNY ZAN (Shotgun Messiah, Zan Clan) and KEE MARCELLO (Europe, K2) had not played together for over 20 years, and the show was meant to be a one time thing.
Zinny Zan: ”.. but with the new members SIMON ROXX (Ammotrack, Volume Unit), BJÖRN ”Grizzly” HÖGLUND (The Summit, Martina Edoff) and MICHAEL GRIMM (Supergroupies) we had so much fun, and sounded so good   that we decided to have a go at it.”

The following years the band played several club dates and festivals, and supported TWISTED SISTER for a handful of Scandinavian dates. In 2008 the band released a new version of ”We Go Rocking”, and the new song ”Jack’s Back”. In 2009 the band had written enough material for a new album, and the basic tracks were laid down in September 2009. In 2011 the new album entitled ”Looking Up Your Old Address” was still not finished.

Björn ”Grizzly” Höglund: ”That’s when we lost Michael due to complications with his diabetes, and... well that’s where we left it. The album is still on the shelves.”
In January of 2016 the band retrieved a hard drive consisting of multi angle pro shot video footage of the 2006 show at the Sweden Rock Festival.
Björn ”Grizzly” Höglund: ”I started going through the footage and the energy of that show just hit me! We had something special in that line-up. Seeing Michael on that stage playing with his childhood favorite band, and all the fun we had, was moving to say the least .. But there was almost no audio recorded at the Sweden Rock show, so we decided do go back to the album we never finished. The song ”Drop The Bomb” was close enough to completion so we decided to use that.”

Ironically that song was written back in 1984 and intended for Easy Action’s sophomore album.

Zinny Zan: ”We wanted to close the book by at least releasing something from the would be album. If not for all the people who asked about the band .. then for Michael. Though I am sure that many of the songs we wrote will surface some way or another pretty soon.

PAUL GILBERT Will Destroy on May 27

It's no accident that I CAN DESTROY cuts a wide swath of styles and textures, from the full-frontal assault of  'Everybody Use Your Goddamn Turn Signal' to the jazz-blues lament of 'One Woman Too Many' (which also features GILBERT's patented four-pick Makita drill-bit riffery) to the radio-friendly balladeering of 'Love We Had' to the smoking-hot gut/heart punch of 'I Am Not the One (Who Wants To Be With You),' the latter track's title a playful reference to the ubiquitous #1 hit PAUL GILBERT enjoyed as part of his gig as lead guitarist for the still-going-strong Mr. Big.

'My guitar playing was born from playing in my teenage heavy rock bands,' GILBERT explains. 'After playing for 40 years, I've been able to evolve the way that I see the fretboard, and how I hear the guitar in my head. This opens up my soloing, and also my writing. I couldn't have written this music when I was a kid. I couldn't have written these lyrics either. I needed time to live'to experience joy, and anger, and love, and frustration at people who don't use their turn signals.'

GILBERT knew that I CAN DESTROY producer Kevin Shirley (Led Zeppelin, Iron Maiden, Rush, Joe Bonamassa), whom he previously collaborated with on Mr. Big's 2011 release WHAT IF, would push him to do his best from the get-go. 'One thing I knew about working with Kevin as a solo artist is that there weren't going to be that many overdubs on the record ' not that many takes, and not many fixes,' he reports. 'As a musician, that puts the fear into you. It's a good fear, and it made me want to prepare in a pretty healthy way.'

With Shirley onboard to get behind the board, GILBERT next had to cull together some top-drawer musicians to bring into the studio. 'On drums, we've got Thomas Lang, who's somewhat of a drumming legend, and on bass is Kevin Chown,' details Gilbert. 'He was the only guy I'd never worked with before, and he was great. He played all the right stuff. He's played with everybody from Chuck Berry and Little Richard to Sebastian Bach.'

Ultimately, the joy GILBERT expresses all throughout I CAN DESTROY celebrates the freedom and creativity he enjoys as a solo artist. 'I do my best. It's pretty incredible to have been living the dream and putting food on the table by banging it all out on an electric guitar,' he concludes. 'This is actually my 30th year as a recording artist, and I still enjoy the search. I like looking around, trying to find things I haven't done yet, and then seeing if I can do them.'

Here's the complete track listing of I CAN DESTROY:

1. Everybody Use Your Goddamn Turn Signal
2. I Can Destroy
3. Knocking On A Locked Door
4. One Woman Too Many
5. Woman Stop
