It’s quite fitting the new DEF LEPPARD album has been dubbed “Def Leppard” as the contents can only be described as sounding like, well, Def Leppard.
In keeping with recent Leppard history, this is again a pretty diverse album, but perhaps not quite as diverse as Songs From The Sparkle Lounge.
I’m likening the flow of the album to that of X; that is – more melodic in the front and heavier, more experiential in the back end.

Song wise we have a very strong set of tunes. Far superior to those on Sparkle and amongst the most consistent for what fans want since Hysteria/Adrenalize.
However, I can’t say the best album since Hysteria, as I’m one of a minority that continue to rate X very highly indeed.

The first half of the album is very traditional Leppard. It also carries a unique moody feel that is played out with some very melodic choruses.
The second half is a little more experimental and varied, featuring some stuff I haven’t heard before from the band and a mix of 70s, 80s and today’s sounds.
What we have here is an album that is classic Leppard without actually honing in on any one album or era. There’s parts of Hysteria, Adrenalize, Euphoria, Slang, X and even Sparkle on here. In other words, its “Def Leppard”.

Fans can get excited though, no matter what era of the band you favor. Because at the heart of it, this is the most authentic Def Leppard album in two decades and features a monster production and beautiful mix, where harmonies and guitars rule the day, but the rhythm section and vocalist Joe Elliott are all equally showcased.

Track By Track:

1. Let's Go is quite simply, classic Leppard. Yes, it’s Pour Some Sugar Mk2, but it’s produced to the nines, features a catchy chorus and layers of Leppard harmonies. It gets better with age, which is something some of the tracks from Sparkle didn’t do.

2. Dangerous has been compared by the band to Photograph. I agree the chorus is a similar, fast flowing hands in the air singalong anthem, but the verse has its own identity. The rhythm guitars are quite meaty and have a modern sound while the lead guitar is more traditionally Leppard. Whatever the comparisons, it’s classic fast moving Def Leppard anthem and will be the most favoured song on the album by many I’m sure.

3. Man Enough is this album’s most left of center tune. It’s a cool tune – think Slang meets Queen’s Another One Bites The Dust. It’s bass heavy and very sparse apart from the short chorus where lead guitar delivers a cool riff. It is probably the track traditional DL fans will have the most trouble with, but it does have its charms. However, I do think it’s a tempo killer after the awesome Dangerous and a little too experimental for its position at track 3.

4. We Belong is something quite wonderful. This is one of the most genuinely heartfelt songs I’ve heard from Leppard since the song Hysteria and features what sounds like everyone joining in on lead vocals through the song. It’s a moody mid-tempo tune with a simply awesome layered chorus that I can’t get enough of. One of those tracks where the verse is every bit as good as the chorus.

5. Invincible kicks off with a heavy bass line and then a uptempo snare before a very melodic guitar riff kicks in. The first thing I thought of was Charlie Sexton. It really sounds like something from his 1989 Charlie Sexton album. This is another moody rocker that rolls along at a mid-to-up-tempo range with yet another stunning chorus – albeit one that holds restraint and keeps in pace with the mood of the rest of the song. The background guitar work is melodic bliss that emphasizes Joe’s warm raspy vocal.

6. Sea Of Love picks up the tempo a little and sounds like it could have come from any Leppard album post-Hysteria. The chorus is another catchy layered refrain, again feeling somewhat restrained and certainly smoother than the heavier verse. The guitar solo is a nice extended piece before the chorus again takes control. A bit of a party tune this one.

7. Energized sounds like it could be fast and furious, but it’s actually quite laid back and in keeping with this mid-album run of moody melodic rock tracks. The verse has a modern programmed feel with a soft JE vocal, before a very catchy, but restrained, chorus takes over. There’s a hint of X and Slang about the production here, but the chorus fits the style of the preceding songs.

8. All Time High kicks things back into full overdrive at about the time when you started wondering if this was going to be a mildly mellow album. Fear not – this is a high energy, thumping beat driven rocker where the chorus bursts through for high impact. Fun, fast and fabulous. The guitar solo in particular packs a real punch. Classic Def Leppard. Awesome.

9. Battle Of My Own is an interesting track. This semi-acoustic track is the band’s tip of the hat to Led Zeppelin and their quirky 70s acoustic/vocal driven sound. It also reminds me of the sound and style on the Coverdale Page album (think the intro stages of Shake My Tree). The song clocks in under 3 minutes, but still finds a minute or so to rock out at the end, further embellishing on the Zeppelinesque sound. They fit a whole hell of a lot into 2 minutes 45!

10. Broke 'N' Brokenhearted is a breezy, classic commercial upbeat Def Leppard rocker. Picking up the pace again, this is a simple guitar fueled enjoyable singalong song that will work well live – especially with the layered harmony chorus.

11. Forever Young features a more modern sound, the guitar especially. The drums kick in to lead the song into a jarring verse that’s contrasted with a short simple chorus that’s only defined by the change in vocal delivery and the extra harmonies. Otherwise it’s a pretty fast moving guitar dominated track. An interesting and musically challenging track.

12. Last Dance is another classic rock ballad featuring a very commercial chorus and a dominant acoustic driven sound. The track could almost be a Rod Stewart cover from the late 70s. Short, but cool.

13. Wings Of An Angel is the albums last big rocker. It builds from a restrained intro into a big modern rocker with a darker sounding vocal from Joe and some contemporary guitar parts that wouldn’t sound out of place on the latter half of X. However it still feels right at home amongst these songs.

14. Blind Faith is something new and different for the band. Featuring a strong raspy vocal from Joe and some slow electric soling behind him, the song builds with the addition of an orchestral section before another soft verse. Then the song turns slightly psychedelic while remaining slow in tempo before a guitar solo and the rest of the band up the stakes. Then it’s back to an acoustic vocal before everything finally bursts to life for the last minute of the song. At 5.30 the song is the longest of the album and easily the most epic of any recent Leppard song.

Without the benefit of another month of high-rotation absorption of this album, I still think I can safely say that the band have delivered a home run here and will have fans united in their praise.
A very “Def Leppard” style album which is all the fans want in this day and age.
Fresh and innovative without sounding like someone else and classic and retroactive (pardon the pun) without being stale or repetitive.
There’s life in the old dog yet and I give credit to the band for pushing aside modern industry concerns to still deliver a ripping full length album of this quality.
For the record, I gave X a 98; Songs From The Sparkle Lounge 85 and Yeah 68 and Euphoria 93. Of course Pyromania and Hysteria are perfect 100s.
For me, Def Leppard slips into the gap between X and Euphoria.

All that, plus Whitesnake guitarist Joel Hoekstra, Trivium, Mark Slaughter, Yes bassist Billy Sherwood, Status Quo's John 'Rhino' Edwards, Leaves' Eyes, Martin Barre, Shinedown, Chris Norman, Radio Sun, Royal Mess... we had so much to cover, we expanded the magazine to 100 pages. NYC - The long awaited new album from legendary guitarist VINNIE MOORE, will be released on October 23 on Mind's Eye Music. Titled “Aerial Visions”, Vinnie's 8th solo album features drummer Richie Monica (Tantric, Poppa Chubby), and bassists Dave LaRue (Steve Morse Band, Flying Colors, The Dregs), Rob DeLuca (UFO, Sebastian Bach), Dorian Heartsong (Jason Bonham's Led Zeppelin Experience) and Elliott Dean Rubinson (Uli Jon Roth, MSG).

“Everything that Moore throws himself into features his astounding 6-string abilities. Far from being a 'mere shredder', Moore combines insane technique with touch, taste, and stylistic influences that include Van Halen, Jeff Beck, Duane Allman, Larry Carlton, and many other diverse talents. He can play sweep-picked arpeggios with a bluesy feel or play blues licks at neo-classical speeds, never sacrificing tone, time,or intonation. It's a unique and musical skill set.” - Matt Blackett, Guitar Player Magazine

Vinnie has released seven critically acclaimed solo albums; five albums and one DVD as a member of rock royalty legends UFO; and one album with band Red Zone Rider. His solo and UFO releases as well as LIVE performances have amassed rave reviews all around the globe from both fans and music press, inspiring guitarists worldwide and launching him into aerial guitar superhero distinction!

Says Vinnie, “I have been touring all over the world pretty nonstop for the past 12 years. I started this record about two years ago and have been working on it while at home. I'm totally jacked up about getting it out there for others to hear as well as playing these songs LIVE. Two of the songs on 'Aerial' were written as instrumentals but were included on a UFO record with vocals. I have also done a cover of ZZ Top's 'La Grange' which I have always thought is one of the coolest songs ever. I have done ZZ covers onstage a lot.”

Vinnie has toured several times all over Europe, UK, Scandanvia, Brazil, and the USA, as well as performing in India, Korea, Mexico, Russia, and Canada. The UFO “A Conspiracy of Stars” tour will continue in Europe on October 21, and will include nine shows in December as opening act for Judas Priest on their Redeemer of Souls tour.

“Eyes closed in concentration, his fingers dancing, he solos like a man possessed. Ritchie Blackmore used to be like this. Vinnie is that good!” - Neil Jeffriess, Classic Rock Magazine, England

Says Vinnie, “With my solo records I can cover a lot more territory stylistically. I enjoy this freedom to be able to follow my muse wherever it leads. All of my influences are in there, from Rock to Blues to Be-Bop to Funk. I am into so many different styles of music that I can't help myself, I’m basically a slave to it all and so there are inspirations from everywhere. Having said that, being a songwriter is the most important thing to me. I try to use my inspiration to create a mood and take the listener on a little journey to wherever.”

And by 2000, TSO had cut itself into two touring companies because people all over America wanted shows. And I’d been watching one of my children (TSO) basically grow up now, and I was kinda getting homesick. And Paul O’Neil said ‘listen, this is your world. Whenever you want to come home, you come home’. And I was like, you know what – I’m gonna come home now it’s time. And I finished the last show with Megadeth, and we filmed a DVD. I said ‘whatever the last show is, don’t worry I’m there..’ But after that, it’s time to go boys.”

Product: Saffire - For The Greater God

Saffire was born in 2005 when Victor Olsson and Dino Zuzic were in school together. The idea was to form a band based on old school melodic hard rock and heavy metal but add a modern twist to it. After months of searching and auditioning, the duo was joined by Magnus Carlsson, Martin Järbur and Gustav Elowson.

In 2007 they recorded a first demo but soon after, Gustav had to leave the band and was replaced by then 17-year old Anton Roos, who had just won the Swedish Drum Solo Champion of the year contest. Another demo was recorded in 2008 and Saffire started playing shows in the local area, slowly making a name for themselves. In 2010 Martin was replaced by Tobias Jansson, and an EP was recorded and released. The band kept playing lot's of live shows and finally in 2013, Saffire signed with Inner Wound Recordings for the release of their debut album ”From Ashes to Fire”.

The album was highly praised all over the world, and Rocknytt.net, Sweden's biggest rock website, put the album on their top 10 list of the best albums of 2013.
Saffire went on to tour all over Sweden, playing some of the biggest festivals alongside bands like Slayer, Steel Panther, At the Gates and Sabaton.

The new album is titled ”For The Greater Good” and consists of 11 songs written by Victor Olsson and Tobias Jansson. The new Swedish classic hard rock band MAJOR INSTINCT is the brainchild of M.ILL.ION founder, main songwriter and bass guitarist B.J Laneby. After 25 years, seven highly critically acclaimed albums with six figures sales and international touring, he decided to put M.ILL.ION to rest and start something new. This decision came after B.J became very ill and actually nearly died at the end of their last UK-tour (June/July 2014). Several months of intensive care both in the UK and in Sweden followed and once conscious and recovering, he had a lot of time to think. Said and done, the best musicians and the coolest guys available in Sweden were picked and in late December 2014 MAJOR INSTINCT was formed in Gothenburg. A BAND, not a project! The line-up soon was completed with Stefano Marchesini (lead vocals, ex HUMAN RACE),  Magnus Mild (guitars), Johan Häll (drums, ex- M.ILL.ION)  and 22-year old newcomer Gabriel Glamheden (Hammond & keys).

The songwriting took place in the first part of 2015 and carries on the vibe of bands like Thin Lizzy, Whitesnake, KISS and Deep Purple. The major part of the lyrics, all written by B.J Laneby, reflects on the rollercoaster ride called life.  A couple of rough recordings were sent out to some contacts in the business and very soon there were offers on the table. In May 2015, the band decided to go with Metal Heaven and MAJOR INSTINCT signed a deal with them for Europe.

With a deal and a budget in place, July 2015 was spent in the Rabbit Hole Studios in Gothenburg Sweden. Guitarist Magnus Mild was the engineer, Victor Olsson took care of the mix and Martin Kronlund of JM Studio mastered the album.
High Five”, a straight catchy rock´n roll song with a positive message was chosen as the first single and a video clip: "We can do it together!" Be it the team, the band or the couple. The release date for both was on September 30th, 2015. The video for this track was directed by the video producer & photographer, the talented Mr Alex Kristoffersson.

“Roots & Wings” is the name of the album which finally will see the light of day on AOR Heaven on November 27th, 2015. On the same day the band will make their first live appearance at the launch party/release at Musikens Hus, in Gothenburg Sweden.
Tracklist: 1. Roots & Wings, 2. One In A Million, 3, High Five (album version), 4. 316, 5. I Need A Drink, 6. Eyes From Above, 7. Don’t Come To Me, 8. Here and now, 9. Kicked To The Ground, 10. Follow The Trends (new version of the M.ILL.ION track from 1995), Mother of all

Frontiers Music Srl has released the single, 'Just Galileo And Me' from Billy Sherwood's upcoming concept album, CITIZEN. Release date of the album is November 6th. The song features XTC's Colin Moulding on lead vocals.

"Just Galileo And Me" is about Galileo's friend and confidante trying to convince the scientist to keep his theory that 'the earth is not flat', which is also the song's hook, to himself for fear he'll be labeled a heretic. The friend does acknowledge the scientist's conviction, and the lyrics show how he knew that  'eventually they would see.'

CITIZEN will be in stores and online November 6th.  Billy Sherwood created this concept album based on a lost soul that is reincarnated into various periods of history. Each song places the Citizen into a unique set of circumstances where decisions are made that have serious personal and global consequences.

Fans can pre-order the album on Amazon at : http://radi.al/BillySherwoodAmazon and on iTunes: http://radi.al/BillySherwoodiTunes All digital pre-orders include instant downloads of "No Man's Land" and "Just Galileo And Me".

Billy Sherwood was recently handpicked by Chris Squire to fill in for him on bass and vocals in Yes, before he left for cancer treatment and ultimately, his untimely death. Billy started his career in the band Lodgic and then as a member of World Trade, who have two critically-acclaimed albums. He has produced and engineered for many artists including John Wetton, Motorhead, Queensryche, Paul Rodgers, and Yes. He joined Yes first as touring member on the 'Talk' tour in 1994, and was a full time member from 1997 to 1999. He recorded two albums with Chris Squire as the 'Conspiracy' project and released six albums with Circa, the band he formed with Tony Kaye.

CITIZEN is Billy's eighth album of new material, though he sees this as a group effort, "While I've created a lot of this record myself I couldn't have done it without the amazing talents brought to bear by all the great artists who participated. So I feel it's much more of a collective effort than a solo album. It's my desire to take this production onto the stage and some of these amazing artists can help bring this concept to life.'

The most powerful voice in rock is coming to Australia and New Zealand next April. [No, I didn't wrote that folks...]

English vocalist Graham Bonnet is synonymous with classic hard rock and heavy metal.
Best known for fronting Rainbow, Michael Schenker Group and Alcatrazz, Graham’s voice is known and cherished by many.

Having last visited our shores as part of the Countdown Rock N Roll Arena extravaganza he is ready to return with
his all-star band featuring Mark Zonder from the legendary Fates Warning.

Graham scored several top 10 hits in Australia in the 1970's with his solo releases including the Dylan classic
It’s All Over Now, Baby Blue, and Warm Ride which peaked at number 1! He then joined Ritchie Blackmore’s
Rainbow, which was formed by Blackmore after he left Deep Purple. The Rainbow album Down To Earth (1979)
was a top 10 worldwide smash hit with platinum singles Since You Been Gone and All Night Long.

Following Rainbow, Graham released his second solo album featuring the hit single Night Games, and then joined
ex-Scorpion legend Michael Schenker in his band MSG for the album Assault Attack.
In the early to mid 80’s Graham formed his own band, Alcatrazz that featured an unknown Yngwie Malmsteen on
guitar. The band quickly became a supergroup in Japan, and Yngwie soon left only to be replaced by another up
and comer, Steve Vai, which propelled Vai onto David Lee Roth and future legendary status...
Ritchie Blackmore, Michael Schenker, Yngwie Malmsteen, Steve Vai…it seems Graham with his powerhouse vocals is the perfect match for these Guitar Gods!!

Since then Graham has kept busy in many bands, such as Impellitteri, The Party Boys, Anthem, Forcefield with
Cozy Powell, Mick Moody and Don Airey, featured as a guest on countless albums and has also recently completed
a sold out tour with a symphony orchestra throughout Eastern Europe with himself, Dan McCafferty from Nazareth
and John Lawton from Uriah Heep.

He has also just finished a Japanese tour to sell out crowds with his solo band supporting Michael Schenker's
Temple Of Rock, featuring Herman Rarebell and Francis Bucholz from Scorpions and Doogie White. Graham has
gotten up each night to perform songs from the MSG album he recorded Assault Attack.
Do Not Miss This Night Of Hard Rock Glory!

Graham will be playing all his hits from Rainbow, Michael Schenker Group, Alcatrazz and many many more.
