LA Guns are vocalist Phil Lewis and guitarist Tracii Guns. Full stop. Both parties have trialled separate line-ups without the other, but output has never matched what these guys can do together.
I used to adore LA Guns. Vicious Circle, Cocked & Loaded, Waking The Dead, Hollywood Vampires…all genre classics!
But recent years have seen the band deliver some pretty suspect releases and you really don’t know quite what a new album might deliver these days.
With Missing Piece there are still some missing pieces. Phil sounds a fresh and vibrant as always, Tracii is shredding like a mofo, but the sound here leans towards a loose and trashy punk vibe, with a pretty ordinary production effort.
The album moves fast, the riffs come just as quickly and there’s attitude overload, but essentially, we’re talking about half an album of decent songs and half forgettable ones, plus a questionable production quality.
What I’m liking is the rapid fire All the Same to Me, Speed; the groovy Kill It Or Die (shit chorus though) and the ballads Crystal EyesChristine and the more epic The Flood's the Fault of the Rain.
Cool attitude, great energy, but poor production and too many fillers where it doesn’t sound like too much time has been spent on the writing process. I’m still up in the air over buying a hard copy for my LA Guns collection. It’s already missing a few albums due to similar QC problems, so my OCD won’t kick in too badly.
Frontiers Music Srl is proud to announce a new project, Eisley/Goldy, who will release their debut album, “Blood, Guts and Games” on December 1, 2017. The first track from the upcoming release, “The Heart Is A Lonely Hunter” is out today!
Singer David Glen Eisley and guitarist Craig Goldy (Resurrection Kings, exRonnie James Dio), both formerly of GIUFFRIA, have joined forces again in EISLEY/GOLDY, a partnership which sees the two artists bring back the signature sound that launched their careers in the early ‘80s.
As David Glen Eisley stated around October 2014, after several years on hiatus after his 2001 solo effort, “My dear friend of many years, guitar virtuoso Craig Goldy made a surprise visit up to my house, knocked on the door and simply stated ‘Enough of this my friend…time for you to get up off your ass and come back to work!’ He was so adamant, I relented and agreed to join him on a small stage in the San Diego area. It all seemed to go well and the next thing I knew a year later, we were in Nottingham, England playing together again in front of a crowd. We had been discussing writing some material for a potential album during this past year. But where to take it, assuming we were to actually do one? That left a big question, but a simple answer. The BEST Rock & Roll label left on the planet that understood who we were and who we are today. That was Frontiers and our friends Serafino & Mario!! A deal was struck and we both are happy to say "Eisley/Goldy" will be bringing you a new record in 2017. Funny how things happen in this crazy world of Rock & Roll!”
Of first single to be released from the album, Goldy says "the song, "The Heart is a Lonely Hunter" is a song that I know is very close to Dave's own heart.....because of a very special loved one, who is still in search mode for that "one and only", yet still gets kicked around during that quest! For me....this song can indeed be about anyone who is searching for a special someone....or it can also be about the internal search we all feel at times while trying to uncover what special purpose or calling in life we are on this planet for....and that search, though originally generated from the heart, can often become as treacherous as a hunter in the wild!!!"
Eisley/Goldy are joined on the release by drummer Ron Wikso, whose resume includes The Storm, Foreigner, Cher, David Lee Roth, and more. Original Giuffria bassist Chuck Wright also plays on a few tracks on the album and original Giuffria drummer Alan Krigger is featured in "The Heart Is A Lonely Hunter" music video!

Another live review and I could cut and paste many comments from my Tyketto review.
Fans - you know the material - the band are quite sensational musicians, so that's no issue, the songs come from the catalogue of Circus Maximus' releases, leaning heavily on the recent Havoc release.
All that's needed is that all important sonic thumbs up. And I'm happy to give it again. The recording sounds great, the mix is nice and clear and it sounds pretty raw and live to me. And there's no daft audience fading between tracks, this is a concert!
The songs - as complex as they are - these guys really know how to play and it's a joy to listen to them in a live setting.
Great stuff for all CM fans and fans of progressive melodic metal in general.
It's Tyketto - killer band, great live and in this case, celebrating an utterly classic album - Don't Come Easy.
Here they perform the album back to back; notably leaving Forever Young as the logical closing track.
So, classic band, classic album, solid performances...all that's needed from me is the tick of approval for sound quality. And I'm happy to give it. This one is nice and raw, no overdubs in sight. Naturally I wasn't serviced with the DVD portion (or the CD for that matter, just digital), so I can't comment on that.
But the audio stacks up just fine thank you very much.
The only point - it's not a long set. I would like ot see a double "Greatest Hits Live" release one day.
Essential Modern Progressive Rock Albums: Images and Words Behind Prog's Most Celebrated Albums 1990-2016 Available For Pre-order Now
Earlier this summer, a new book dedicated to the resurgence of one of music's most enduring and underrated genres was announced from The Prog Report. Essential Modern Progressive Rock Albums: Images and Words Behind Prog's Most Celebrated Albums 1990-2016, authored by Prog Report editor Roie Avin, is the first book to shine a light exclusively on the important albums of the modern progressive rock era. This new book showcases more than 50 albums from the last quarter century of prog, with each chapter dedicated to one album.
Featuring full color images of the artists live, original press photos and brilliant album cover art, this 280+ page, soft cover coffee table book will be one every prog fan will want to display proudly as a badge of their fandom.
Preorders come with a download of a chapter from the book on Transatlantic's The Whirlwind.
Highlighted in the book are prolific and pioneering artists such as Dream Theater, Porcupine Tree, Opeth, Spock's Beard, Marillion, The Flower Kings, Enchant, Fates Warning, Queensryche, and Big Big Train, along with more recent bands like Haken, Karnivool, Riverside, Between the Buried and Me, and The Dear Hunter, among the more than 30 bands included. Drawing on original interviews with band members such as Mike Portnoy, Neal Morse, Steven Wilson, John Petrucci, Mikael Ã…kerfeldt, Roine Stolt, Pete Trewavas, Ross Jennings, and dozens more, the book offers an in-depth look at the stories behind the albums that shaped the next wave of progressive rock. This book focuses solely on bands that carried the mantle of the genre's initial '70s explosion, artists that expanded the genre further, incorporating new sounds and elements to reach new audiences worldwide.
'The last 25+ years have been an incredibly fruitful period for progressive music, as this books indicates. The albums chosen here represent some of the most exciting music created in the modern progressive period, and it's only right that they claim their moment in the spotlight.' - Jerry Ewing, Prog Magazine
'There certainly was a period when the majority of bands of the New Prog generation, whilst more than competent, sounded just a bit too derivative of the their first generation idols. But Roie Avin's book goes some way to establish the credentials of the more recent Neo-Prog bands as having a far more individual and original voice whether it be the virtuosity of Dream Theater, the creativity and appeal of Big Big Train, or the highly impressive path carved out by Steven Wilson firstly with Porcupine Tree and latterly, in his own right.' - Anthony Phillips, Genesis founding member and guitarist
'This looks to be an amazing book and a MUST HAVE for Prog fans!' - Mike Portnoy
On this episode, wrestler, singer and all around good guy, CHRIS JERICHO discusses his band FOZZY's fantastic new album Judas, KISS and their work ethic, his upcoming Cruise, acting, The Jericho Network on PodcastOne and much more.
Our second interview is with EUROPE's Joey Tempest. He discusses the band's renaissance since 2004, their excellent new album Walk The Earth, a solo album, guitarist John Norum, North American touring plans and much more.
And we wrap up this episode with drummer Tony Brock of The Babys who discusses the band's new Timeless Anthology II album, working with Rod Stewart, producers Bob Ezrin and Ron Nevison, former vocalist John Waite and much more.
MelodicRock Records is excited to announce the next release on the label. This band rocks hard!
This album is so ass-kickingly intense, so brain numbingly supersonic, that we dare only put 9 tracks on the disc! To add a 10th song would clearly risk the listeners head exploding.
