DAMN YANKEES 'S/T' CANDY196
SUPERGROUPS COME and go; often in an initial blaze of glory and then more often than not disappear in a puff of smoke due to a half-assed work ethic and the sound of clashing egos. This was not the case with Damn Yankees, a veritable Sm'rg'sbord of prime time American musical hard rock talent: Ted Nugent, Tommy Shaw (Styx), Jack Blades (Night Ranger) and drummer Michael Cartellone. A four man wrecking crew who came together with the objective of celebrating not only their considerable reputations but also to establish a new beachhead for further success.
Formed in late 1988 in New York City, the band quickly solidified via a series of rehearsals and a demo that led them to sign a record deal with Warner Brothers, who promptly put them in the studio with renowned producer Ron Nevison (Led Zeppelin, Bad Company, UFO, Heart), a man with not only great chops but also a certain hard working reputation. Recorded in Los Angeles, the record exceeded all expectations, providing the band with a springboard to double platinum success, a #13 place on the Billboard LP chart and an impressive run of sold out live dates.
Musically, the band were firing on all six cylinders, notching up an impressive number of hits and anthems such as 'Come Again', 'Coming Of Age', 'Runaway' and the massively successful power ballad 'High Enough', a song that reached #3 on the US singles chart.

WINGER 'S/T' CANDY257
RATHER UNFAIRLY Winger were lumped into the 80s hair metal scene. However, it was an easy mistake to make considering Kip Winger's drop dead gorgeous looks and the band's penchant for penning memorable and melodic rock of an altogether addictive nature. However, beneath the fancy looks was a band of enormous depth, containing members that had already notched up years of experience and played with several demanding and high calibre artists.
The band were fronted by, Denver native, Kip Winger, and signed to industry heavyweight Atlantic Records, the rest of the band consisting of guitarist Reb Beach (who had worked with Fiona), keyboard player Paul Taylor (previously with Alice Cooper) and former Dixie Dreggs drummer Rod Morgenstein. Originally issued in 1988, and produced by man of the moment Beau Hill, the album caused an immediate stir with its seductive blend of heavy, yet melodic, rock suggesting that Winger's talent was very much in the same realms as Bon Jovi and Foreigner.
Indeed, such was the excitement surrounding the album that it achieved platinum status and made them a fixture on MTV, all helped by their good looks and fully formed songs such as 'Madalaine', 'Hungry', 'Headed For A Heartbreak' (a top twenty US hit single this one) and the superhumanly catchy 'Seventeen'; a tour de force of perfection.

WINGER 'IN THE HEART OF THE YOUNG' CANDY258
WINGER'S DEBUT album was an immediate commercial and critical success, selling in excess of a million units and making front man Kip Winger's chiselled look a household name, rivalling even the popularity of Jon Bon Jovi. At that point in time almost every teenage girl in the USA probably had a poster of him adorning their bedroom wall and every aspiring male rocker wanted to lead a band just as good as his.
For this follow-up album, titled 'In The Heart Of The Young', Kip retained all the positive points of his debut's success, with no changes to either band members or his producer Beau Hill, except that this time around they elected to record in Los Angeles rather than New York City. It was a good move as the album increased the band's fire and passion, bringing together eleven tracks of superior melodic rock goodness. The sound was sharp, the hooks were huge and the songs were as every bit on the money as first time around.
Kip's familiar husky roar wraps itself around classic tracks such as 'Can't Get Enuff', 'Easy Come, Easy Go' and 'Miles Away', whilst the rhythm section pounds away in a manner befitting some of the world's most successful hard rock acts like Whitesnake and Def Leppard. No wonder that this record went on to achieve Platinum status and beyond.
Special Deluxe Collector's Edition, fully remastered sound, contains two bonus tracks, 16 page full colour booklet, new interviews, 3,000 word essay, enhanced artwork and rare photos.

HONEYMOON SUITE 'MONSTERS UNDER THE BED' CANDY231
THERE'S NO getting away from it, Honeymoon Suite had an amazing run of good fortune during their hey-day, the late 1980s, notching up not just hit albums but also hit singles and touring the world with impressive results. Not only were they busy being commercially successful but artistically they were also improving with each record, refining and honing their craft to new heights.
'Monsters Under The Bed', originally issued in 1991, was the band's fourth and arguably their greatest album thus far. Written over an extended period of time and containing some of their best songs and melodies, the record was stuffed to rafters with hooks and riffs of a magnitude that dwarfed previous efforts. Overseen by British-born production and engineering wizard Paul Northfield (Rush, Queensryche, Dream Theater) at Le Studio, Morin Heights in Quebec, the album is blessed with a widescreen pop rock appeal that dwarfed the competition, making the likes of Bon Jovi, Loverboy and Bryan Adams sound like puny undernourished upstarts.
In amongst the fun filled contents are sparkling gems such as 'Next To You', 'Say You Don't Know Me' and the utterly brilliant 'If Ya Love Me', a contender for one of the greatest melodic hard rock anthems of all time. Man of the match is vocalist Johnnie Dee but that's not to the denigrate any of the other members, especially guitarist Derry Grehan who guitar work explodes and growls like a caged tiger.
Special Deluxe Collector's Edition, fully remastered sound, 12 page full colour booklet, new interviews, 3,000 word essay, enhanced artwork and rare photos.
