Stefano Viana is an Italian guitarist, songwriter and producer who has already caused a stir with his first album “Viana” (2017) which received very positive reviews. Following his passion with enthusiasm Stefano contacted singer and producer Bryan Cole (Giant, Steel City, solo artist) and started to work on new material. Alessandro Del Vecchio was the vocalist on the first outing but this time Bryan Cole is at the mike stand. The music was recorded in a studio like in the “good old days” and this has made a great impact on the end result as the musicians have bonded and made a richer sound.

This new album features some great musicians such as Terry Brock and Francesco Marras and also boasts the talents of great American guitar player John Roth from Giant, Winger and Starship. The 10 tracks we have here are all strong songs, there are no fillers here.. just great melodic hard rock played with a passion and flair. This is one album that is going to be talked out in the coming weeks.

Keep the flame of your passions alive and be “Forever Free”.

New from Focus On Metal: "Another in our series of career retrospective episodes, our guest this week is Whitesnake/Winger guitarist and all around good guy Reb Beach. We talk with Reb and go through a brief history of his career through a bunch of bands and catch up with what he's up to these days as well. Reb doesn't usually go for these type of things so it was very cool of him to allow the Focus on Metal team to put him under the musical microscope. We hope you enjoy what he has to say."

DAMN YANKEES 'S/T' CANDY196

SUPERGROUPS COME and go; often in an initial blaze of glory and then more often than not disappear in a puff of smoke due to a half-assed work ethic and the sound of clashing egos. This was not the case with Damn Yankees, a veritable Sm'rg'sbord of prime time American musical hard rock talent: Ted Nugent, Tommy Shaw (Styx), Jack Blades (Night Ranger) and drummer Michael Cartellone. A four man wrecking crew who came together with the objective of celebrating not only their considerable reputations but also to establish a new beachhead for further success.
Formed in late 1988 in New York City, the band quickly solidified via a series of rehearsals and a demo that led them to sign a record deal with Warner Brothers, who promptly put them in the studio with renowned producer Ron Nevison (Led Zeppelin, Bad Company, UFO, Heart), a man with not only great chops but also a certain hard working reputation. Recorded in Los Angeles, the record exceeded all expectations, providing the band with a springboard to double platinum success, a #13 place on the Billboard LP chart and an impressive run of sold out live dates.
Musically, the band were firing on all six cylinders, notching up an impressive number of hits and anthems such as 'Come Again', 'Coming Of Age', 'Runaway' and the massively successful power ballad 'High Enough', a song that reached #3 on the US singles chart.

Special Deluxe Collector's Edition, fully remastered sound, one bonus track, 16 page full colour booklet, new interviews, 3,000 word essay, enhanced artwork and rare photos.

TRACK LISTING: 1. COMING OF AGE 2. BAD REPUTATION 3. RUNAWAY 4. HIGH ENOUGH 5. DAMN YANKEES 6. COME AGAIN 7. MYSTIFIED 8. ROCK CITY 9. TELL ME HOW YOU WANT IT 10. PILEDRIVER BONUS TRACK: 11. BONESTRIPPER (Single B-Side)

WINGER 'S/T' CANDY257

RATHER UNFAIRLY Winger were lumped into the 80s hair metal scene. However, it was an easy mistake to make considering Kip Winger's drop dead gorgeous looks and the band's penchant for penning memorable and melodic rock of an altogether addictive nature. However, beneath the fancy looks was a band of enormous depth, containing members that had already notched up years of experience and played with several demanding and high calibre artists.
The band were fronted by, Denver native, Kip Winger, and signed to industry heavyweight Atlantic Records, the rest of the band consisting of guitarist Reb Beach (who had worked with Fiona), keyboard player Paul Taylor (previously with Alice Cooper) and former Dixie Dreggs drummer Rod Morgenstein. Originally issued in 1988, and produced by man of the moment Beau Hill, the album caused an immediate stir with its seductive blend of heavy, yet melodic, rock suggesting that Winger's talent was very much in the same realms as Bon Jovi and Foreigner.
Indeed, such was the excitement surrounding the album that it achieved platinum status and made them a fixture on MTV, all helped by their good looks and fully formed songs such as 'Madalaine', 'Hungry', 'Headed For A Heartbreak' (a top twenty US hit single this one) and the superhumanly catchy 'Seventeen'; a tour de force of perfection.

Special Deluxe Collector's Edition, fully remastered sound, contains three bonus tracks,16 page full colour booklet, new interviews, 3,000 word essay, enhanced artwork and rare photos.

TRACK LISTING: 1. MADALAINE 2. HUNGRY 3. SEVENTEEN 4. WITHOUT THE NIGHT 5. PURPLE HAZE 6. STATE OF EMERGENCY 7. TIME TO SURRENDER 8. POISON ANGEL 9. HANGIN ON 10. HEADED FOR A HEARTBREAK BONUS TRACKS: 11. HIGHER AND HIGHER 12. HEADED FOR A HEARTBREAK ('91 Remix) 13. NEVER

WINGER 'IN THE HEART OF THE YOUNG' CANDY258

WINGER'S DEBUT album was an immediate commercial and critical success, selling in excess of a million units and making front man Kip Winger's chiselled look a household name, rivalling even the popularity of Jon Bon Jovi. At that point in time almost every teenage girl in the USA probably had a poster of him adorning their bedroom wall and every aspiring male rocker wanted to lead a band just as good as his.
For this follow-up album, titled 'In The Heart Of The Young', Kip retained all the positive points of his debut's success, with no changes to either band members or his producer Beau Hill, except that this time around they elected to record in Los Angeles rather than New York City. It was a good move as the album increased the band's fire and passion, bringing together eleven tracks of superior melodic rock goodness. The sound was sharp, the hooks were huge and the songs were as every bit on the money as first time around.
Kip's familiar husky roar wraps itself around classic tracks such as 'Can't Get Enuff', 'Easy Come, Easy Go' and 'Miles Away', whilst the rhythm section pounds away in a manner befitting some of the world's most successful hard rock acts like Whitesnake and Def Leppard. No wonder that this record went on to achieve Platinum status and beyond.

Special Deluxe Collector's Edition, fully remastered sound, contains two bonus tracks, 16 page full colour booklet, new interviews, 3,000 word essay, enhanced artwork and rare photos.

TRACK LISTING: 1. CAN'T GET ENUFF 2. LOOSEN UP 3. MILES AWAY 4. EASY COME EASY GO 5. RAINBOW IN THE ROSE 6. IN THE DAY WE'LL NEVER SEE 7. UNDER ONE CONDITION 8. LITTLE DIRTY BLONDE 9. BAPTIZED BY FIRE 10. YOU ARE THE SAINT, I AM THE SINNER 11. IN THE HEART OF THE YOUNG BONUS TRACKS: 12. ALL I EVER WANTED 13. CAN'T GET ENUFF (Edit)

HONEYMOON SUITE 'MONSTERS UNDER THE BED' CANDY231

THERE'S NO getting away from it, Honeymoon Suite had an amazing run of good fortune during their hey-day, the late 1980s, notching up not just hit albums but also hit singles and touring the world with impressive results. Not only were they busy being commercially successful but artistically they were also improving with each record, refining and honing their craft to new heights.
'Monsters Under The Bed', originally issued in 1991, was the band's fourth and arguably their greatest album thus far. Written over an extended period of time and containing some of their best songs and melodies, the record was stuffed to rafters with hooks and riffs of a magnitude that dwarfed previous efforts. Overseen by British-born production and engineering wizard Paul Northfield (Rush, Queensryche, Dream Theater) at Le Studio, Morin Heights in Quebec, the album is blessed with a widescreen pop rock appeal that dwarfed the competition, making the likes of Bon Jovi, Loverboy and Bryan Adams sound like puny undernourished upstarts.
In amongst the fun filled contents are sparkling gems such as 'Next To You', 'Say You Don't Know Me' and the utterly brilliant 'If Ya Love Me', a contender for one of the greatest melodic hard rock anthems of all time. Man of the match is vocalist Johnnie Dee but that's not to the denigrate any of the other members, especially guitarist Derry Grehan who guitar work explodes and growls like a caged tiger.

Special Deluxe Collector's Edition, fully remastered sound, 12 page full colour booklet, new interviews, 3,000 word essay, enhanced artwork and rare photos.

TRACK LISTING: 1. SAY YOU DON'T KNOW ME 2. BRING ON THE LIGHT 3. IF YA LOVE ME 4. THE ROAD 5. LITTLE SISTER 6. HOW LONG 7. COME (LET ME TAKE YOU THERE) 8. MIRACLE 9. IT'S ONLY LOVE 10. NEXT TO YOU 11. STAND ALONE 12. ALL I WANTED

WINGER - Better Days Comin' (Review)

BOTTOM LINE

Another cracking Winger album. I'm probably favoring Karma narrowly ahead of this, but either way it's all class. It's a musically diverse album that if done by any other band probably wouldn't work. You need something special for the style changes between songs to work and that special something is Winger.

It still baffles me why the credibility challenged MTV decided to use Winger as the genre's whipping boy back in the 90s. The collective musical talent of these 4 guys was and remains beyond the grasp of 99% of the bands elevated to hero status during the 90s on that network. And as if to prove the point, Winger remain actively kicking ass in their 26th year.

Better Days Comin' is the new album, the band's 6th studio album and one that fits snuggly between the darker vibe of IV and the looser, old-school sounding Karma record.
In fact, Better Days Comin' almost sounds like a greatest hits album for the band.
Of the 11 tracks on the special edition, there's something touching each facet of the band's styles over the years. It is a compelling record that boasts musical intelligence, awareness of what the fans want and a touch of adventure.
Within the record you get the best of early Winger - the hard rocking party boys that seemed a step ahead of the pack musically - with the anthemic driving trio of ass-whipping tunes Midnight Driver Of A Love Machine, Queen Babylon and Rat Race (possibly the most furious Winger tune yet). Better Days Comin' is something new and fresh with its quirky chorus and breezy pace.

Winger IV gets a nod with the dark, progressive and technical rocker Tin Soldier and Ever Wonder reminds me of the mature and atmospheric ballads from Karma.

So Long China has a hard edged verse, yet a breezy melodic chorus – the contradiction of the two aspects and the layered instrumentation making the song a highlight.

Latter day Winger gets another nod with the distorted, effects heavy modern rocker Storm In Me which contrasts starkly with the orchestral influenced moody ballad Be Who You Are, Now.

The bonus track Another Beautiful Day is another dirty modern rocker which leads into the also dark, but optimistic Out Of This World – a soaring ballad that oozes class and instant appeal.
