MRR Dives Back Into The Archives With ROBIN & JUDITH RANDALL & MARK BAKER

Categories:
News Feed

It is with great enthusiasm that I can announce the next participant in MelodicRock Records’ ambitious career spanning ‘From The Archives’ box set series. The first set, the Brett WalkerLast Parade’ 6-Disc retrospective was been met with fantastic critical and fan response and is approaching selling out.

That project took nearly a year to put together and the next release is likely to be just as big and just as comprehensive.

I’m talking about the legendary songwriting duo of Robin & Judith Randall.

Judith Randall sadly passed away in 2002, but Robin has kept writing and together the Randall’s have been responsible for some of AOR’s most memorable songs.

The classic Mark Free ‘Long Way From Love’ and both Venus & Mars’ albums to start with, plus songs for some of the great names of melodic rock – FM, Starship, James Christian, Roxus & Khymera to name a few.

Robin & Judith Randall wrote a staggering amount of songs, with many of the demos featuring vocals from Marcie Free, James Christian and Diana DeWitt, all of which have agreed to be part of this set.

Robin has already delivered a big batch of songs and is currently converting more DATs to digital with the help of Robert Tepper. She has reached out to many of her co-writers and vocalists and I’m excited to announce that writers like Tony Sciuto, Jeff Law & Aina have expressed interest in being involved.

Others have also been approached and news on that and other progress reports will follow in the weeks ahead. There is no planned release date at this stage, so stay tuned for updates.
JK Northrup is on standby to begin the restoration and remastering process.

Robin had this to say about the project: “I am thrilled to be bringing songs from the vault to light, to hear great voices and sounds again and to create new ones as well. My mother Judithe would've have been so over the moon about this!!”

There are many many songs previously unreleased and never before heard, so AOR fans are going to love this!

MRR is equally pleased to announce one other archive release, which will officially be announced in the next few days.

Mark Baker is the man behind the iconic Signal album as well as many other songs including tracks for 38 Special, Paris Black, Triumph and Boulevard.

Several unreleased Mark Baker songs featuring Mark Free on vocals from the 80s have been traded online for years and MRR is thrilled to be able to bring one disc of this material to light in July. The tracks come from DAT masters and will be remastered by JK Northrup once again.

Release details coming right up!

More archive projects are in development. Stay tuned for updates.

RIP ERIC MOORE (The Godz)

Artist:

Eric Moore, the lead singer of local hard rock band, The Godz, died Friday. He was 67.

According to a statement from the band, Moore had been battling bladder cancer and died the day before the band’s annual Godzfest event in Zanesville. The performance was set to be Moore’s last.

In a statement, The Godz management team said Moore was known for being a “beer-drinking, pistol carrying, blue collar rock-n-roller and the leader of the Godz fans worldwide.”
“Eric Moore was the lead singer of the Godz (sic) here on earth and he has now embarked on a triumphant return to the one and only God in heaven,” the statement said.
Moore had announced his diagnosis with Stage 4 bladder cancer in April and had planned on doing several performances to thank his fans, culminating in the show scheduled for Saturday at The Barn in Zanesville.

The Barn said in a social media posting the event would go on with memories being shared of Moore and The Godz.

FIREWIND Sign Worldwide Deal With AFM Records

Artist:

Greek power metal icons FIREWIND, the band of former Ozzy Osbourne guitarist GUS G., have signed a worldwide record deal with German metal label AFM Records. The collaboration between the band and AFM already started with the latest FIREWIND album “Immortals”, which AFM released in the North American territory back then.

Subsequently, GUS G. signed with AFM to also release his solo albums together, and now we are happy to announce that also FIREWIND’s future albums will be released worldwide by AFM.

Gus G. (who by the way, is the Greek spokesperson for this year’s Eurovision Song Contest) states:

“After working together with AFM Records on my latest solo album "Fearless" and seeing the great results that were achieved, the passion and care they put into the project, it felt natural to extend our partnership and bring Firewind under the same roof. This is something I'm very excited about and I'm also happy to announce that we're already working on the follow up of "Immortals". We plan to enter the studio after our Summer tour with Queensryche wraps up in August. Stay tuned for further announcements!“

The Rembrandts - "Broken Toy" (Official Lyric Video)

The Rembrandts are set to release their new album Via Satellite on August 23, but you can pre-order the album starting today! As part of the pre-order, we are offering a limited run of items you do not want to pass up! The first 50 people to pre-order this album will receive a signed copy of the Via Satellite LP from Danny and Phil. With each pre-order, you will also automatically be entered to win a signed copy of the Via Satellite test pressing.

Via Satellite's lyrics are clear-eyed about life's ebbs and flows includiing romantic breakdowns, changes of geographical scenery and unexpected emotional fissures and the leaps of faith people take in order to pursuue happiness. As always, words come courtesy of both Solem and Wilde. The former penned the melancholy "Broken Toy" ("Which is definitely about the end of a relationship"), although he says his lyrical contributions tend to be more observational: "Most of the other stuff coming out of me was just how I look at the world." Wilde concurs. "Phil's a quirky guy he's thee guy that comes up with the crazy lyrics and, you know, borderline genius stuff. I'm more the romantic in the band, and I write more relationship stuff. It's just my comfort zone. He helps me with that, and I help him with that, and then we come up with a Rembrandts song."

Black Sheets Of Rain – “Weight of Shadows” (Lyric Video)

BLACK SHEETS OF RAIN mark Mental Health Awareness Week with the release of new single 'Weight Of Shadows' in aid of Ian's Chain Charity.

Rising UK Metal trio Black Sheets Of Rain have released their new single 'Weight Of Shadows', taken from their debut EP 'In The Eye Of The Storm', which is out now on W.A.R Productions.

You can check out the lyric video for 'Weight Of Shadows' here:

Weight Of Shadows talks about the experience of dealing with depression, and all proceeds from the download single (and 10% from every physical copy of the EP) will be donated to Ian’s Chain, a charity which counsels those struggling with depression and suicidal thoughts, and supports people who have lost a loved one to suicide. For more information please see www.ianschain.co.uk

Guitarist/vocalist Rich Davenport states: “I wrote the lyrics for 'Weight Of Shadows' after Robin Williams died; I was a huge fan, and I’ve had battles with depression myself over the years. I also read that he’d been given medication which can cause suicidal thoughts, which was also the case with Chris Cornell. I’ve had experience of that too, and people aren’t always aware that prescribed medication can have that effect. The verses of the song are trying to describe what depression can feel like, and the chorus is the voice of a friend talking to a person suffering with depression and feeling suicidal, offering to stay with them till it passes, whether it’s on the phone or in person. Ian’s Chain do amazing work in preventing suicide by talking to people struggling with depression and suicidal thoughts, and also help people who’ve lost a loved one to suicide, so we’re keen to support them.”

The charity’s founders, Alan and Wendy Savill have issued the following statement in support of the release:
“Suicide is like the perfect world. It doesn’t discriminate, and affects people irrespective of gender, colour, wealth, social standing or religion.
With 84 males and 20 females taking their own life weekly in the UK alone and every suicide affecting around 120 people directly this means 12000 are lead down a grief path every week. Of course not every person will go on to have their lives altered for life however the numbers are still horrific.
The feelings of anger, utter sorrow , guilt and shame are natural for those left behind. This can lead to mental health issues, the inability to work again or having to function knowing that tears can flow at the most inopportune moment.
A simple sound, a smell , a piece of music or even a throwaway comment from a friend or colleague can bring a person right back to that fateful knock at the door by a police officer, or the time a note or body was found.
How do I know ? On 22nd December 2012 my son Ian took his own life. The words which came from the police officer three days before Christmas changed my life. Forever.
The proceeds from this EP will be used to fight the stigma of mental health and will directly prevent the tragedy of suicide.
If you can do one thing when buying this music it’s this. Ask your friend family and colleagues how they are, and listen, really listen to the answer. Do they sound or look ok. If they don’t take time to talk, support and be there for them. You might be the missing piece of a jigsaw to prevent another death. Music is a great leveller. It can bring out every emotion within a four minute song. It is essential to the majority of people’s well-being.
From all at
www.ianschain.co.uk we want to thank Black Sheets of Rain not only for their generosity but for helping to break down the unwarranted stigma of suicide and suicidal ideology. It is ok not to be ok. What is not ok is to ignore subtle cries for help through either ignorance embarrassment or shame.
So please, let’s start changing perceptions today. Because next time it could be you doorbell rung, and your life changed.
You can survive tragedy, this is important. Most will. But let us all, in the name of Ian Savill take time to care about others.
Thank you, Alan and Wendy Savill

In memory of Ian Savill 14.5.89 - 22.12.12”

The single is available directly from the band’s website at https://www.blacksheetsofrain.com/products/weight-of-shadows and also on all leading music platforms (iTunes, etc), as is their EP In The Eye Of The Storm
