AXEL RUDI PELL - Sign Of The Times (Review)

information persons:
I could be a lazy reviewer and just write 'Axel. Rudi. Pell'. You’d still know exactly what to expect from the German guitar wiz and his right-hand man, Johnny Gioeli. I’ve expressed some disinterest in the last couple of albums, due mainly to the restrictions of delivering the same formula album after album, but I’m very happy to declare this album head and shoulders above the last couple of records, with stronger songs and some terrific melodies – delivered by both guitar and vocals.
While there are no surprises, this album’s surge of urgency has definitely re-sparked my interest in Axel’s unmistakable style. I think fans will be more than happy.

Originally from the "Kings & Queens" album, we played that track live for the very first time last year and we really had fun doing that!"

AXEL RUDI PELL Celebrates 30 Years With 'XXX Anniversary Live' June 7

Friday, June 7, 2019
And the world has changed. Axel Rudi Pell hasn’t. For three decades, the Bochum-based guitarist has ticked and worked like a Swiss clock releasing critically acclaimed hard rocking albums consistently. Like his anniversary offering, a live document of his most recent tour. And it will come out on the same record company as his debut in 1989; his contract with legendary label SPV/Steamhammer having lasted longer than the average marriage these days. “SPV and I have grown together, we have witnessed highs and lows and we’ve managed to get through them all,” the 58-year-old musician states with a smile. “Never change a winning team” is the secret of his success. Having sold more than 1.6 million records so far, Pell also has a ridiculous amount of online streams: his songs have been streamed more than 37.5 million times, figures he would never have dreamt of when he first started out.
“XXX Anniversary Live”, his 30th album release in as many years, will see the light of day on June 7th 2019. A milestone by all accounts and a stunning document of his most recent tour which he did not plan at all, but the recordings, from Bochum and Budapest among others, were so good that he felt he just couldn’t scrap them. They are a worthy follow-up to “Magic Moments”, his 3-hour anniversary show at the ‘Bang Your Head’ festival in 2014, where he celebrated 25 years as a solo artist. BTW: Pell is planning to bring out another studio effort in spring 2020. The Swiss clock from the Ruhr area is till ticking.

RESTLESS SPIRITS Announce Debut Album Out May 17

Friday, May 17, 2019
Lords Of Black guitarist Tony Hernando is one of the most exciting guitarists, writers, and producers in the European metal and rock scene today. With his many talents, it was a natural next step for him to stretch out and work on a solo album after the promotional cycle for Lords of Black third album, “Icons of the New Days” wrapped up. Hernando has always been passionate about melodic hard rock music, so the idea of pairing him with some of the best singers from his fellow labelmates' bands to lay their vocals over his songwriting seemed not only logical, but destiny. Thus, Restless Spirits was born and the self-titled debut will now be released on May 17, 2019.
Aside from Hilli, guest vocalists include none other than Johnny Gioeli (Hardline, Axel Rudi Pell), Deen Castronovo (Revolution Saints, ex-Journey), Dino Jelusic (Animal Drive), Alessandro Del Vecchio (Hardline, Jorn), and Diego Valdez (Dream Child and now, the new vocalist for Hernando's main project, Lords of Black). In addition to vocal duties, Deen Castronovo also takes care of drums on every track.
Hernando says, "Restless Spirits is a melodic hard rock record featuring several singers that showcases some different sides of my playing and songwriting. We have rockers, ballads, and everything in between. I had the opportunity to work and co-write with some of the best guys in the business. I hope everyone can enjoy this album as much as I did recording it!”
Restless Spirits is an album that showcases some of the most outstanding vocal talents operating in the melodic hard rock scene right now, while also offering truly exciting and adventurous melodic hard rock songwriting. Enjoy!

ROBERT RODRIGO BAND - Living For Louder (Review)

information persons:
Robert Rodrigo Band is the brainchild of Spanish guitarist Robert Rodrigo, the man behind the excellent Airless and composer of two previous instrumental solo albums.
This album is a mixture of all that has come before, delivered in an energetic collection of well-produced songs. There are a couple of enjoyable left turn instrumentals with another two additional more straight-ahead instrumentals later in the album. The remaining six tracks feature vocal god Johnny Gioeli in full force. His style and tone suit the album perfectly – giving both his trademark rasp and ability to turn melodic opportunities to shine.
There is real musical dexterity and diversity between the tracks – from a straight blues boogie to stadium anthems and some groovy sounding hard rock.
There is some vivid musical experimentation in several of the verses, but come chorus time, its all hooks and melodies.
10 tracks, 40 minutes….no room for fillers or fluff here. An enjoyable album with a few really good hooks and some impressive guitar work. Familiar for fans of the genre, but fresh also.

HARDLINE Give 'Life' To New Album April 26

Friday, April 26, 2019
Hardline is back with a new studio album, “Life”!
In the past two years, Hardline has performed a number of shows across Europe, including festivals and more intimate gigs, and that live “energy” can certainly be felt on their new studio album. The band went back to 1992's “Double Eclipse” album for influence for the songs on this record, but additionally they also looked a little closer in the rearview at the tremendous predecessor to this album, “Human Nature”.
The resulting album, LIFE, perfectly blends the influences of those two albums and sees Hardline heavier, stronger, bigger, and better than ever. The band entered the studio feeling loose and relaxed from all their gigging. The two newest members, Marco Di Salvia on drums and Mario Percudani on guitar, had gelled seamlessly with the rest of the band from all those shows and combined with Anna Portalupi's pulsating rhythms and Alessandro Del Vecchio's songwriting and production abilities, LIFE was almost effortless for the band to create. And of course, Johnny Gioeli sings like only he can over top of these incredible musicians.
LIFE will be released April 26, 2019 on CD/LP/Digital.
More live dates will be forthcoming for the band, including a performance on April 27th at the Frontiers Rock Festival in Milan, IT.

JOHNNY GIOELI Solo Debut 'One Voice' Out Dec. 7

Friday, December 7, 2018
If you are unfamiliar with the name Johnny Gioeli and the bands he is involved with, Hardline, Crush 40, and Axel Rudi Pell, then you have simply missed out on one of the most gifted voices to grace the hard rock genre in the past 25 years!
Gioeli will release his very first solo effort, entitled “One Voice”, via Frontiers Music Srl on December 7th. The title “One Voice” is a tribute to the fans who have supported Gioeli’s career for decades. Musically, of the album, Johnny says, “I love guitar driven rock. I love songs that have a direct impact, gets you thinking and puts you in a positive frame of mind.”
When asked why he decided to do a solo album at this point in his career, Gioeli says, “[c]reating music is my life. Starting with a pin needle of an idea and cultivating that idea into a song that has an effect on someone has always fulfilled me musically. When a young man in my hometown had a life changing accident leaving him paralyzed, I knew I wanted to do something special. I wanted to make this solo album to help him with some of the enormous costs associated with rehabilitation. I also knew that those who love the music I make are fans for life and I knew they would help too. It’s a testament to the beautiful hearts that circle this globe. I woke one morning with the title ‘One Voice’ in my head knowing that I need air from others to sing. I am so proud of this uplifting album. It’s been said that it is the ‘feel good album of the 21st century’. I’m grateful for those words.”
The aforementioned ‘young man’ is Joe Barber. A large portion of the money raised for this album through a Pledge campaign is going directly to Joe and his family to help him and his family with needs his recovery and the associated medical costs.
“‘One Voice’ is the sum of my efforts to bring a world together for the love of music”, muses Gioeli. “If you can imagine fans from all parts of the world. the Middle East, Europe, Asia, Scandinavia, Australia etc.all of them coming together to donate money to a kid they don’t even knowit’s a testament to the song ‘One Voice’. We are ‘One Voice’ together, we are love and hope forever, we are one world that matters, so let’s all just help each other.”
Of the team that helped him craft this album in the studio, Johnny says, “I have an extremely talented group of musicians performing with me on ‘One Voice’. Eric Gadrix on guitar, who wrote the musical compositions, Marco di Salvia on drums, Nik Mazzucconi on bass, and my Hardline bandmate Alessandro del Vecchio on keys, who is also my trusted producer, engineer and lil’ brother. A powerhouse band I will take on the road. Making this record was a labor of love, for sure. I spent countless days and nights in my studio thinking, singing, recording and making sure I loved it before you, the fans, got a chance to love it. I wanted to paint a picture I hope everyone wants to hang on their wall. ‘One Voice’ is that painting.”

Johnny Gioeli and Deen Castronovo first played together on the debut Hardline album, “Double Eclipse”, which was released in 1992. 25 years later, the two were reunited in Italy to commence work on the debut Gioeli-Castronovo album, “Set The World On Fire”.
“It was so great to work with Johnny again, I’ve always loved his voice and it was a pleasure to be a part of this collaboration! It was like we’d never left each other,” says Castronovo.
“It was like the first day he tried to hold my hand and kiss me in 1992. Ha Ha!!! KIDDING! Seriously, I never left Deen. Deen never left me, so reuniting was easy. Counting our blessings were plentiful. Singing together was magical,” says Gioeli about working with Castrovo again.
Both men have continued on their musical paths since they last saw one another, with Gioeli continuing to lead Hardline, while Castronovo spent time with Ozzy Osbourne and had an extended tour of duty with the legendary Journey. Castronovo is currently active with The Dead Daisies and Revolution Saints in addition to Gioeli-Castronovo.
Gioeli’s vocal talents combined with Deen’s superb drumming abilities (and whom is also a fine vocalist in his own right) has made for a stunning album that is driving a driving hard rock record, while also chock full of uplifting melodies and poignant lyrical messages.
We’d tell you to sit back and enjoy this album, but you’ll be on your feet the second it starts, so stand up and take notice of this display of two immense talents doing what they do best!

AXEL RUDI PELL New Album 'Knights Call' Out March 23

Friday, March 23, 2018
'I'd rather have long-term success than the hit album everybody is always referring to.' Axel Rudi Pell knows exactly what he is talking about. His solo career has lasted for almost three decades now. In the international hard rocking universe, Pell is nothing short of a phenomenon: a musician who flies under the radar, but certainly isn't invisible. He's an honest worker who has learned his skills from scratch. He's never experienced writer's block, has never followed trends or fashions. You know what to expect from him.
So, what's new? 'Game Of Sins' from 2016 was a huge success and peaked at no. 11 in the German charts. Its successor is called 'Knights Call' and studio album no. 17 (in words: seventeen). That's a fact and more than a symbol of steadily releasing albums on SPV/Steamhammer, Pell's tried and trusted label since 1989. More than 1.5 million people worldwide have bought Pell's albums. What an impressive number! But there is no reason for the axeman to rest on his laurels. 'Why should I retire?' asks the 57-year-old. And answers his own question: 'As long as I can do what I like I'm the happiest man in the world.'
Basically Pell is living his very own dream: He has turned his hobby into a profession. But there's also a lot of determination involved. His ongoing passion drives him all the time, he's always on the lookout for a better chorus, a better solo, a better bridge, a better song. 'Writing songs is like a lot of things in life: It's my way or the highway!' His confidence in his abilities is enormous, but he also knows that he can rely on his German-American dream team featuring singer Johnny Gioeli and drummer Bobby Rondinelli. And of course, his fans are very important to him. 'For me, direct feedback is essential. Playing only in the studio would be boring. Who would sign up for that?'

AXEL RUDI PELL 2018 is about more grooves, more melodies and more diversity. The mix between medieval mysticism and fantasy folklore is still there, but there's been a bit of fine tuning.
