CREYE Self-Titled Debut Arrives October 12

CREYE was put together by guitarist Andreas Gullstrand in early 2015. After playing in different bands over the years, including Grand Slam, Andreas felt that it was about time to turn it up a notch. His vision was to start a new Swedish pop/rock sensation that would take listeners on a journey back to the glory days of the eighties, both musically and visually. After spending nearly two months experimenting with the sound of the band, Andreas settled on what could best be described as a slick melodic rock sound with a touch of 80's retro in the mix.
CREYE debuted in late 2016 with the single "Never Too Late", which caused a stir in the international AOR scene with outstanding reviews and immediate talk of Creye potentially being the “next big thing” to come out of Sweden. In March 2017, the three song EP, "Straight To The Top" was released, showcasing a more mature and evolved sound. Andreas continued working more and more on the songwriting and crafting of new, more ambitious melodic rockers with thoughts of what would become the band's self-titled debut in mind.

“Both the sound and the writing has matured quite a lot over this past year, and of course we’ve also discovered some new sides to our music as well that might not be present listening to the EP,” says Andreas. "I’m extremely proud of every song on the whole album. If you are a fan of the EP then you will definitely enjoy this since it is by far the best we’ve ever sounded."

While CREYE’s music is clearly influenced by the sound of the 80’s, Andreas is no stranger to more modern production techniques. "I’m personally a 90’s kid, so I guess the 80’s was still pretty relevant in mainstream media and pop culture when I was growing up,” continues Andreas. "But something has always been very appealing to me about the 80’s for as long as I can remember and that is subconsciously expressed through the music I guess. But to sum it up, we’re more just re-introducing the components of a 80’s song to a 2018 production with our own touch to it rather than trying to actually write a 80’s song, plus we have been working hard to write songs that we truly liked, before everything else."

If you are into bands such as Work of Art, Art Nation, One Desire, and early H.E.A.T, then this band is for you! CREYE are more than ready to live up to the initial hype generated by their first single and EP!
The band will appear at MelodicRock Fest - Scandinavia in Malmö on June 2 and at Rockingham Festival 2018 on October 21st with more shows planned and to be announced soon!

KING COMPANY Return With 'Queen Of Hearts' August 10

King Company was formed in 2014 by drummer Mirka ‘Leka’ Rantanen (Raskasta Joulua, Warmen, ex-Thunderstone, ex-Kotipelto) together with a number of well known musicians from the Finnish hard rock and metal scene: Antti Wirman (Warmen), Jari Pailamo (Kiuas, Ponies To Kill), Timo Schleifer (Enfarce) and original singer Pasi Rantanen. The band released their debut album, ‘One For The Road’, in August 2016. It was well received with multiple great reviews worldwide, plus the band earned the no. 7 rank in the well-known Japanese magazine BURRN in the Brightest Hope category for that year.

The band toured their home territory in 2017, but Pasi Rantanen wound up having severe vocal cord problems and eventually could not sing at all. With a tour of Spain already booked, a high pressure search for a replacement singer resulted in the band finding the perfect candidate on YouTube! Italian-Argentinian Leonard F. Guillan accepted the job and, proving to be a great live performer, ended up joining the band as their permanent lead vocalist. "He gives 110% for the band and his enthusiasm is easily transmitted to everybody. Also, he’s a great showman. I had never before seen a guy who runs to the top of the bar and sings there for the audience!” says Mirka Rantanen. Leonard was stoked to join the band and the vocal recordings for the band's new album were finally able to begin.

"I think the most relevant progression on this album is that this time pretty much all the songs were written after the first album came out,“ continues Mirka. “On that record, you can hear a few very old songs, but the new material is really fresh and the new record will give the listener a much better picture of what kind of band we have become. Also, we have grown up a lot as a band, which means that we play better and are more relaxed together - and it of course affected the songs and feelings when we were recording the album."

The new album, ‘Queen Of Hearts’, will be released on 10th August, following which King Company will tour to promote it, beginning in Finland, followed by a festival appearance in Spain and further shows in the works for the remainder of the year and well into 2019.

AN OPEN LETTER IN THANKS FOR MELODICROCKFEST

Hi folks. I’m back home, sitting at my desk for the first time in what seems like weeks, reflecting upon the most recent MelodicRock Fest event. MelodicRock.com will start to get updates from today, with full service from next Monday (21st).

I’d like to thank first and foremost, my wife Catherine for supporting my endeavours and for taking on the responsibility of looking after our boys and also burden of dealing with my anxieties and stresses in dealing with everything these events entail.

From the time of conception, each MRF event has taken roughly a year of preparation time to execute, with valuable help from others at certain points, but as others that have put together such events know, the financial responsibility and the pressure of maintaining the integrity of the overall event for all present, falls on the shoulders of the promoter.

These pressures haven’t been easy to absorb and at times, so Catherine, I pay tribute to you for all of this.

I think that each event has been a success for all in attendance and that is the biggest payoff for all the work involved. No matter what’s happening behind the scenes, I think the fans and artists attending have all enjoyed the close-knit community and fellowship that everyone brings to each event.

I have made many friends for life – relationships cultivated online, but brought to maturity through being able to talk, hang out, embrace and share the energy of enjoying great live music.
So, to each and every one of you – thank you. I’m truly honoured and consider myself much richer in spirit to be able to call you friends.

I would like to thank all the artists that have appeared as part of the 5 USA and 1 Australian MRF line-ups. Even the ones that were a bit of a pain in the ass! I kid I kid…all is forgotten!

This post would go on indefinitely if I was to identify all individually, but you guys all know the fantastic artists that gave up their time and energy to be part of MRF. Please continue to support those artists.

I do however, need to name just a few individuals for their continued support of the series of events and for going out of their way and over the top as far as time, effort and spirit put into these shows.
Take a bow Vic Rivera, Eric Ragno, Jeff Scott Soto, Joe Vana, Joey Vana, Jim Peterik, Richie Hofherr, Ty Sims, Erik Johnson, John Parker, Stevie Janevski, Jason Old & Paul Laine.

In the case of MRF5, a huge thanks to Chad and Squid at CC Backline, I couldn’t recommend these guys highly enough. And Tony, George and the Home Bar staff for always being amazing, plus the Crown Plaza Hotel Northbrook for accommodating an entire hotel full of lunatics.
Henry at Heavy Duty Promos, Dave Tedder at 20th Century Music, Darren and Todd Dewis at One Riff Merchandise and Rachel at CSR Music Promotions, Debbie Setliff, Steve at Impulse Music, Matt Lemieux, Phil the wonder-driver and Dannette Pahl. I know I’ve missed some…for that I apologise and don’t be surprised if this post is edited a dozen times.

There are also several people from past events that need thanking. When taking stock of everything that has passed, it would be remiss of me not to include everyone in the appreciation deserved for helping make past MRF events what they were.
So thank you: Denise Zigler and the Morris Performing Arts Center (MRF1); John Schenk; Geoff Sands at the Roadhouse (MRF2); Frontiers Records (MRF1 & 3), John Kivel & Kivel Records (MRF1-4), Michael Eden (MRF1 & 2), Joey DeMarco, Nello D’Omo, Richard Mace, Justin Murr, John Kivlin (RIP), Brett Walker (RIP), Sheron Walker, and Ryan Northrop at Metal Mayhem Music (MRF1 & 2).

I think that covers a lot of what I wanted to say. It doesn’t cover everything I feel, be assured that there are many many people I am grateful to and for and you know who you are.

Now it’s time to do try something different…

MelodicRock and MRR will of course continue on with the intent to grow both platforms further.

JOEL HOEKSTRA Posts Whitesnake Update

Artist:

WHITESNAKE guitarist JOEL HIEKSTRA has posted an update on MelodicRock’s own Noticeboard regarding the delayed Whitesnake album.

It reads: “Hi all! There were technical issues with the studio during mixing(first the board, then the computer). It set them/us back a bit. Factor in the 4 months it takes for the label to manufacture vinyl after turning it in and the fact that you want to coordinate a release with a tour and you've got an early '19 release. Unfortunate, but it is what it is. It has nothing to do with the label, the songs, DC's voice, problems with the band. It is, as stated, pushed back due to technical issues. Apologies and hope everyone here has a great day today with nothing but great days to follow. Rock on!!

IN THE STUDIO Celebrates 35th Anniversary of DAVID BOWIE's 'Let's Dance'

Artist:
Wednesday, November 26, 2014

Podcasts & Radio
Dallas, TX - April 26, 2018.  North American syndicated Rock radio show and website IN THE STUDIO with Redbeard: The Stories Behind History's Greatest Rock Bands "puts on its red shoes and dances the blues" this week to celebrate the 35th anniversary of David Bowie's Let's Dance album.

Far from David Bowie’s first “comeback”, thirty years ago he emerged from a protracted period of self-imposed exile in Berlin where he had virtually singlehandedly co-opted the best elements of Kraut Rock (Kraftwerk, Tangerine Dream, Can, Amon Duul) into a series of critically lauded if not best-selling albums Low, Lodger, Heroes and Scary Monsters, whose influence can now be seen in full bloom in today’s wildly popular Electronica movement. When Bowie’s Let’s Dance emerged in Spring 1983 with songs “Modern Love”, “China Girl”, “Cat People” (with young unheralded Texas blues guitarist Stevie Ray Vaughan), Metro’s “Critical World”, and the seven minute title strut, it put David back in heavy rotation on North American rock radio where he had been MIA since his previous “comeback” to rock, 1976's #1 seller >Station to Station. This week IN THE STUDIO program host Redbeard shares some of his conversations over the decades with Bowie, who made startling predictions about the internet and who explained the difference between rock music as change agent versus popular music.

“It’s very important for an art form to be the way that only a certain group of people think. That’s when it’s still an incendiary device. But then when it just becomes the way that we ALL think, it’s popular music. We all love popular music. Access to it is so easy. It’s everywhere.”  - David Bowie

DAVID BOWIE Let's Dance @35 / IN THE STUDIO with Redbeard interview is available now to STREAM at: www.inthestudio.net/redbeards-blog/david-bowie-lets-dance-35th-anniversary/

LIZZY BORDEN Returns With First Album in 11 years, 'My Midnight Things'

For decades, Lizzy Borden has been one of theatrical rock's top front-men. And on June 15th, Borden will issue his first album in 11 years, My Midnight Things, via Metal Blade Records. With the hard n' heavy tracks of the album opening title cut "Obsessed With You" and "The Scar Across My Heart", the extended layoff between albums has not dulled his desire to rock and shock. "Although we have stayed busy touring all over the world, I missed being a recording artist. I look at the new album as a new beginning, I pushed the restart button on my career," Borden comments.

The album can be pre-ordered (and the "My Midnight Things" lyric video can be viewed) via this link: metalblade.com/lizzyborden - where the record is available in the following formats:

--limited 1st edition Digipak-CD (includes bonus tracks)
--jewelcase-CD
--180g black vinyl
--clear pacific blue marbled vinyl (EU exclusive - limited to 300 copies)
--clear burgundy marbled vinyl (EU exclusive - limited to 200 copies)
--olive/black marbled vinyl (US exclusive - limited to 300 copies)
--opaque cool gray marbled vinyl (US exclusive - limited to 200 copies)

* exclusive bundles with a shirt, plus digital options are also available!

Having signed a new contract with Metal Blade on the strength of three demo tracks, Borden opted to produce My Midnight Things himself, with Joey Scott as co-producer, who also handled all the drumming duties. "I knew what I was going for and had doubts that I could find a producer who would understand that," Borden explains. "My approach is very different than what is happening in today's current sound."

The album was also mixed by Greg Fidelman (Metallica, Black Sabbath, Adele, U2) and mastered by Tom Baker (David Bowie, Rob Zombie, Marilyn Manson, Tom Petty).

Borden is planning on hitting the road shortly. "I've already started working on the 'My Midnight Things' show, and I really can't wait to play these songs live," Borden adds. "There are so many talented players out there in the world, I know I will find the right musicians to be on stage with me in my touring band in the new show. And just based on what is being talked about so far, it will be the best show I've ever done. I really do feel a new excitement that I have not felt in years. The best is yet to come."
