UFO Frontman PHIL MOGG Ready To Call Time

Artist:
Categories:
News Feed

Phil Mogg has confirmed that next year's 50th anniversary tour with UFO will be his last as the frontman of the long-running hard rock band. Consequently, it seems almost certain that at that point they will cease to exist. UFO were formed in London in 1968 and Mogg is their only ever-present member, performing on all of the group's 22 studio albums.

'This decision has been a long time coming, I've considered stepping down at the end of UFO's previous two tours,' Mogg explains. 'I don't want to call this a farewell tour as I hate that word, but next year's gigs will represent my final tap-dancing appearances with the band."

'2018 marks UFO's 50th anniversary, so the timing feels right,' he continues. 'There will be a final tour of the UK and we will also play some shows in selected other cities that the band has a strong connection with. But outside of the UK this won't be a long tour. Being out on the road isn't always tremendously luxurious and although the playing is as great as it ever was, the stuff that surrounds it becomes very tiresome. I always told myself that when I reached that stage I would step down, and that's what I'm going to do. This is the right time for me to quit.'

Mogg turned 70 back in April and although his voice remains strong, he admits that age played its part in his conclusion.

'I'm a big reader of obituaries, and my finger always goes down to: 'I wonder how old they were…',' he chuckles. 'The last few years have been tough, losing Lemmy was awful and I was sad that Jimmy Bain passed on a cruise ship. That distressed me quite a lot.'

While many veteran bands in such a position simply cease playing live and continue to record, UFO will no longer be releasing new music. "A Conspiracy Of Stars" in 2015 and last year's covers collection 'The Salentino Cuts' are set to become a signing-off point, though Mogg insists that however unlikely the prospect might seem – the singer is a lone strrand of consistency throughout a 50-year history – he would have no problemm with UFO continuing with a replacement.

The band's current line-up – completed by keyboard player/seconnd guitarist Paul Raymond, guitarist Vinnie Moore, drummer Andy Parker and bassist Rob Le Luca – have of course been informed of Mogg's decision.

'I've told the guys that this is how it is,' he says. 'They know it's my time to go and they know that they can do whatever they want to do without me but I don't want to play live or make records anymore, though having said that I might go on and do an album of my own. I'll have to see how I feel about that.'

Of course UFO have either split up, retired or gone on hiatus several times before but Mogg is keen to make the distinction that next year's dates don't just mark the end of his touring commitments with UFO – for Phil, therre will be no further concerts of any kind.

'For me, this is the end of my stint with UFO,' he clarifies. 'This is a line in the sand. I'm suggesting we call the tour 'Last Orders', though I also like 'The Bar Is Closing'. I'm also tempted to name it 'The Drinks Are On Parker',' he chuckles, referring long-suffering sticksman Andy Parker.

You'll have gathered that Mogg is not about to slash his wrists anytime soon. Of course he is sad that the finishing line is now within slight but has had sufficient time to live with and process such a massive personal decision.

'Maybe the best word to use is 'bittersweet',' he concludes. 'But my time has arrived and all that remains is to make sure that we have a good tour.'

ROBERT BERRY Relaunches The 3 Project as 3.2

Artist:
Friday, August 10, 2018
Categories:
News Feed

Singer/multi-instrumentalist/producer Robert Berry’s new album, “The Rules Have Changed,” will be released under the name 3.2 on Frontiers Music Srl on August 10, 2018.

The full-length album will feature musical contributions by the late KEITH EMERSON, whom Berry was a bandmate with in the band 3.

This is the last musical project in which Emerson was involved prior to his untimely passing in 2016.

A preview of the album, the track, “Somebody’s Watching” has been released. It is available on all streaming services as well as an instant download with digital pre-orders.

The working relationship between Emerson and Berry began in 1987 when former Yes manager Brian Lane and Carl Palmer arranged a meeting between the two prolific musicians. The plan was to form a more melodic, song oriented band, compared to the complex symphonic rock compositions for which Emerson, Lake & Palmer was known, which would allow Emerson, Berry and Palmer to follow in the footsteps of the success that Asia and GTR were enjoying during that period.

The result of that collaboration between Emerson, Berry and Palmer was the band 3 and the album “... To The Power of Three,” was released worldwide by Geffen Records in 1988. The first single, “Talkin' 'Bout” reached #9 on the Billboard charts and the band successfully toured the U.S. to support the album.

With the success of the first release, Geffen urged the band to go back into the studio to begin work on a second album, but Emerson felt uncomfortable with Geffen’s momentum stifling, inconsistent strategy that ultimately cut the first album's success short, consequently prompting the band to call it quits. At the time of the band’s dissolution, several songs were already written for the band’s second release with some of the songs later being released on Robert Berry’s solo album, “Pilgrimage To A Point”.

In October 2015, conversations about a new 3 album started between Robert Berry and Frontiers’ President Serafino Perugino as Robert had been speaking to Emerson about releasing the band’s long delayed follow-up album. Berry relayed those conversations to Emerson and in turn sparked revived enthusiasm from him for pursuing the project. The exchange of musical ideas ultimately paved the groundwork for “The Rules Have Changed.”

After Emerson’s death in 2016, Berry was left with Emerson’s final musical ideas for the project. From old cassette tapes, keyboard parts written over the phone and long discussions between the two friends about style, the framework of the album was set and ready to be brought to life.

After several months of grieving and contemplation about what to do with these co-written songs and musical fragments from Emerson, Robert decided to resume work on the material that was created and craft a record that would ultimately be a fitting tribute to Keith Emerson’s musical legacy and at the same time re-energize and update the musical style started with 3 some 30 years ago.

“Keith and I developed together a vision of what the new album would be like, explains Berry. “There were many times over the past 30 years since 3 had come out that Keith either played on a session for me or we just talked on the phone. The new album consists of some past 3 writing from 1988, some newly written last efforts from Keith, and some songs written exclusively by me after Keith’s death. “

The final result is “The Rules Have Changed,” a reboot of the original 3 project, centered on Robert Berry’s amazing musical talents.

This is a record that deserves to be heard by every fan of the great Keith Emerson and includes many exquisite musical adventures, which every progressive music fan will be delighted to experience and enjoy.

“Every second I worked on writing, recording, and performing those songs I had one thing on my mind,” says Berry. “The phrase... ‘What would Keith do’...drove me, it guided me, it consumed my creativity. It was so important to me to fulfill our vision for this album. I believe Keith worked through me. I especially felt him with me when I did the solos. The songs we had worked on together but the solos were to be improvised while recording. You will hear his flare coming through on the solos. The solos are played by me, but, at the same time, also by him. I would never say I was even close to being the player Keith was. But I believe you can hear his spirit in the sound and in my playing. I am so proud of this album. I can’t help but think somehow he is proud of the results too.”

RED REIGN Release New Music Video, 'Red Reign'

Richmond, Virginia-based rockers Red Reign are ready to unveil a brand new video, for one of the standout tracks from their self-titled EP - “Red Reign.” Specializing in a sound that recalls vintage rock and metal acts of the mid to late ‘80s, the striking video and rocking song are a perfect representation of this fast-rising band.

“The song ‘Red Reign’ is about when a person is so pissed off and overwhelmed, that the anger is finally unleashed,” explains the band’s singer/guitarist, Carlton “Bubba” McMichael (who is also joined in the band by guitarist Stevie Shred, bassist Larry Moore, and drummer Sammy Lee). "It was really great working with Tim, Monica and the whole team at Aisthesis Productions on this video as they were able to capture the bands attitude and stage presence. We look forward to working with them again on future projects".

Red Reign’s self-titled EP, was overseen by Grammy-nominated producer, David Ivory (Halestorm, Roots, Silvertide), and can be purchased here: https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/red-reign-ep/id1183635946

Other standout tracks include “Not That Way,” which the band’s McMichael describes as “one of those songs that is about a love gone bad and then the girl realizes she made a mistake in our relationship and wants to get back into the same relationship she poisoned. But the guy has gotten over her and moved on.” A lyric video for the track can also be viewed here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=1bObJneh54U

Other tracks include “Chains” (“About the feelings of being held back and looking for that escape”), “Toxic” (“The feeling of hopelessness in a relationship”), and “What is Love For” (“About you pouring yourself into a relationship, knowing it’s not going to go far”), in addition to the aforementioned “Red Reign.”

In addition to the new music video, Red Reign will be hitting the stage on August 17th on a bill with Jackyl, at Phase 2 in Lynchburg, Virginia, and appearing on SUMMERBASH that will be held on Saturday, August 25th at Fiore’s Entertainment Complex in Wooster, Ohio. GLENN HUGHES Talks Millennials & California Breed

Artist:
Wednesday, November 26, 2014

LEGENDARY singer/bassist Glenn Hughes says working with guitarist Andrew Watt showed him “millennials want all the power and all the money of people who’ve already got it without working for it”.
California Breed, a project in which now-65-year-old Hughes worked with 27-year-old Watt along with drummer Jason Bonham, broke up after one album in 2015.
“It was a very stressful band for me to be in,” Hughes told the White Line Fever podcast (please use this link https://itunes.apple.com/gb/podcast/white-line-fever/id494213902?mt=2). “I was, you know, bamboozled into forming this band with a young man, Andrew Watt - a very talented young man - but it was the wrong move for me.
“The guy is a millennial. The guy is 25 years old and it was difficult to play with somebody with a different head space to me and Jason not wanting to tour was a difficult thing.
“Looking back at California Breed, I should never have toured behind that. I should have just released the album and moved back onto my solo work.
“A great record by the way but I don’t have very fond memories of that period. I’d was just recovering from open heart surgery, it was a difficult period for me but I look back on it and I learned so many different things.”
Asked for this thoughts on millennials, the former Deep Purple and Black Sabbath man answered: “The way I see it is this, and this is a generalisation: millennials want all the power and all the money of people who’ve already got it without working for it. I’m sorry, that’s the way I see it.
“People of my age group have worked their asses off to get this and a lot of youngsters - some youngsters don’t feel that way - they want it all and they want it now. They want what you got and they’re not willing to work their asses off for three of four decades to get it.
“And it just doesn’t work that way.”
When asked if he was linking these thoughts to Watt specifically, Hughes said:  “He comes from a group of people from that generation. You’re born in the early nineties and you have a different angle and a different viewpoint of the world. You have the whole internet thing. You grew up with the internet in front of your fingers. It’s a different demographic. It was difficult for me to work with people who had a different angle on life.
“I’m old school. I’ve had a heart attack. I’ve been shot at, pistol-whipped, run over in a car. I’ve been, you know, stabbed and all of a sudden I’m working with people who have no idea what I’ve been through and they just want success. And success, you just don’t get it overnight.”
Hughes returned to another high profile collaboration, Black Country Communion, which currently has a album in circulation entitled BCCIV. Hughes is also touring a show of Deep Purple classics with his solo band.

You Can't Kill HARDCORE SUPERSTAR's Rock N Roll

Friday, September 21, 2018

YOU CAN’T KILL MY ROCK ‘N ROLL New album from Hardcore Superstar out September 21st 2018!

You Can’t Kill My Rock ‘N Roll is the 11th album from Gothenburg’s HARDCORE SUPERSTAR, consisting of 12 ear splitting anthems that drive home the fact that Rock isn’t dead, it is in fact alive and well and thriving in Sweden.
Recorded throughout 2017 and early 2018 at the beautiful Österlyckan (Wooden Hybrid) Studios near Gothenburg, the album was produced by the band themselves and mixed in Stockholm by Dino Medanhodzic.

Celebrated worldwide for their explosive and uplifting live performances that are bursting with integrity and passion, HARDCORE SUPERSTAR have managed to somehow harness and capture all that passion and raw energy and translate it into the 12 songs that make up “You Can’t Kill My Rock ‘N Roll”. This is a huge sounding album on all levels, overflowing with sure fire hits and guaranteed future fan favourites.
The albums first single “Have Mercy On Me” was released to great critical acclaim at the end of 2017 and quickly became play listed on radio stations all over the UK, Europe and their native Scandinavia, making it a runaway success. The following singles “Bring The House Down”, “Electric Rider” and “Baboon” have built enormously on this success, creating massive amounts of excitement and anticipation amongst the fans and media in preparation for the albums release on September 21st 2018. Further singles are also planned to coincide with the bands ambitious World Tour that will see them playing to audiences far and wide throughout all of 2018/19.

Its safe to say You Can’t Kill My Rock ‘N Roll is an unapologetically confident and assured album full of big hooks, attitude and aggression that doesn’t let up from the moment the opening track “ADHD” kicks in all the way through to the closing track “Goodbye” with the title track being an uplifting, rallying call to arms for all fans of Rock music to stand proud, united in the celebration of who we are and the music we love. The message very much setting the tone for the album as a whole.
All the elements that that make up a great HARDCORE SUPERSTAR album are here in abundance. At its core there is the great song writing and big choruses that are synonymous with every HARDCORE SUPERSTAR release, however each song stands on its own as well as complementing the album as a whole, taking the listener through a rollercoaster of snarling riffs, heavy bass lines and relentlessly driving drums, all of which are intertwined with enslaving melodies and Jocke’s unmistakeable vocals.
It’s safe to say, “You Can’t Kill My Rock N Roll” isn’t just the bands finest album to date, but it could quite easily also be their most career defining.

PRIMAL FEAR To Release New Album, 'Apocalypse' August 10

Artist:
Friday, August 10, 2018
Categories:
News Feed

Frontiers Music Srl is proud to announce the release of another monster heavy metal album from Germany's Primal Fear in the form of their new studio album, “Apocalypse” on August 10, 2018!
To celebrate the announcement, the band has released a lyric video for the track "Hounds Of Justice”

"Apocalypse" will be available in the following formats:
- CD
- CD/DVD
- Box Set (includes CD/DVD + T-Shirt) [T-shirt size L in EU/UK edition, size XL in N.A. and AU edition]
- LP

“Apocalypse” is Primal Fear’s 12th studio album and another milestone release in keeping with the consistent growth the band has shown through their career. Primal Fear, through years of hard work and a steady stream of increasingly powerful albums, have become one of the most beloved and respected heavy metal bands around the globe, a true metal institution. Their last two studio albums, “Delivering The Black” and “Rulebreaker”, saw them climbing the charts in several territories and receiving even more critical praise than previous releases. Truly, especially in recent years, the band has continued to raise the bar in terms of quality and musicianship with each release, constantly pushing themselves to find new ways to best themselves.

Production of the record started at the end of 2017 and was wrapped by Spring 2018 at Hansen Studios is Denmark with producer Mat Sinner and engineer/mixer Jacob Hansen. "My personal highlight of recording the album was the fantastic teamwork. Peaceful, focused and really creative,” says Mat Sinner. "No big discussion, no heated arguments. Everybody did a fantastic job and the performances were top notch. This was the key to improve every little detail of the songs, from old school to epic, from modern to symphonic, from fast to slow - you will hear it all on 'Apocalypse'.”

The guitars on the album are truly outstanding. Each of the three guitar players of the band - Magnus Karlsson, Tom Naumann and Alex Beyrodt - shine in their own respective right. Thanks to the fantastic mix provided by Jacob Hansen (Volbeat, Delain, Pretty Maids, Amaranthe, etc.), each player is highlighted.

And finally, what to say about the performance of Ralf Scheepers, one of the truest and most outstanding vocal metal heroes of our times? "Ralf is more motivated and ambitious than ever before,” relays Sinner. "The band vibe is extremely peaceful and creative these days and this really elevates Ralf. He had the opportunity to try different things on the songs and even some extreme ideas, which are always welcomed. Ralf sounds good in every pitch from a very deep sonor voice, to a mid-range power vocal to extreme high-pitched screams, so we could fool around with all different scales and scenarios. For example, I think the vocal performance on the song ‘Supernova’ speaks for itself.
The result on "Apocalypse" is utter satisfaction paired with maximum enthusiasm and we’re really happy about the final result - I hope the fans will enjoy the record as much as we do!”

Introducing WAITING FOR MONDAY

Welcome WAITING FOR MONDAY to the Frontiers' family! Waiting For Monday is a new AOR / Melodic Rock duo formed by vocalist Rudy Cardenas and guitarist & singer August Zadra. The band hails from Los Angeles and was brought to the attention of Frontiers by Jeff Scott Soto, with the label moving quickly to sign them based on their outstanding talents.

Originally from Venezuela, Rudy Cardenas is one of LA's most sought after rock vocal talents. Best known as a finalist on season 6 of American Idol, Rudy has been heard on TV and movies ranging from Family Guy to Real Steel. For five years, Rudy was the power alto for the multi-award winning vocal group, m-pact, who was named vocal group of the year at the 2005 L.A. Music Awards. More recently, Rudy was the featured vocalist for the Gold-selling Hungarian rock album by Mr. Zsolt.

August Zadra is best known for handling lead guitar and vocal duties in iconic singer Dennis DeYoung's solo band since 2010. Since the age of 15, guitar playing has been a passion that carried August from Fairbanks, Alaska to Hollywood, California, where he attended and graduated from the Guitar Institute of Technology. He has been a constant in the Los Angeles music scene of the past 20 years, playing with a variety of bands, and is often sought out as a guitarist/vocalist collaborator for writing and recording projects.

The duo are currently writing songs for their debut record which is expected to be released in 2019. Musically, you can expect classic chart topping AOR melodies with musical influences from classic rock giants such as Journey, Styx, and Foreigner.

Lizzy Borden - "Long May They Haunt Us" (Video & Press Release)

For decades, Lizzy Borden has been one of theatrical rock's top front-men. And on June 15th, Borden will issue his first album in 11 years, My Midnight Things, via Metal Blade Records. The extended layoff between albums has not dulled his desire to rock and shock. "Although we have stayed busy touring all over the world, I missed being a recording artist. I look at the new album as a new beginning, I pushed the restart button on my career," Borden comments.
The video of "Long May They Haunt Us", which Lizzy Borden proclaims as "the most meaningful song on the 'My Midnight Things' album. It's about those people that are no longer in our lives but we still think about them every single day. They haunt us with more than a memory, a haunt that we hope will never go away." The video (directed by David Brodsky / www.davidsbrodsky.com) can be viewed at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yxczxHv048U

To watch the lyric video for the previous single, "My Midnight Things", please visit: metalblade.com/lizzyborden - where the record can be pre-ordered in the following formats:

Hosted by Jim Florentine (along with Lizzy Borden in attendance!), there will be giveaways, drink specials, signed CDs/LPs available for purchase, and more at this event, which is open to the public. Please RSVP to mymidnightparty@gmail.com to confirm your attendance!

Having signed a new contract with Metal Blade on the strength of three demo tracks, Borden opted to produce My Midnight Things himself, with Joey Scott as co-producer, who also handled all the drumming duties. "I knew what I was going for and had doubts that I could find a producer who would understand that," Borden explains. "My approach is very different than what is happening in today's current sound."

The album was also mixed by Greg Fidelman (Metallica, Black Sabbath, Adele, U2) and mastered by Tom Baker (David Bowie, Rob Zombie, Marilyn Manson, Tom Petty).

Borden is planning on hitting the road shortly. "I've already started working on the 'My Midnight Things' show, and I really can't wait to play these songs live," Borden adds. "There are so many talented players out there in the world, I know I will find the right musicians to be on stage with me in my touring band in the new show. And just based on what is being talked about so far, it will be the best show I've ever done. I really do feel a new excitement that I have not felt in years. The best is yet to come."

ALICE COOPER Guitarist RYAN ROXIE To Release 'Imagine Your Reality' Solo Album In May

Artist:
Friday, May 25, 2018
Categories:
News Feed

Ryan Roxie will release his new solo album, "Imagine Your Reality" on May 25 via www.bellyacherecords.com for LP pre-order. Pre-order CD at amazon.com The CD will also be available via Cargo Records UK.

The vocalist, guitarist and songwriter, who is best known as Alice Cooper's longtime lead guitarist and collaborator, has also worked with Slash, Gilby Clarke and others. Roxie will be touring in US in July before he starts Cooper's tour Aug 3 in Wisconsin.

"Imagine Your Reality" is Ryan's first official solo release and sees him joined by other noteworthy musicians, including a collaboration with CHEAP TRICK's Robin Zander on the track "California Man".

Says Roxie: "CHEAP TRICK were a major influence in my musical upbringing. Both Robin Zander and Rick Nielsen have joined us onstage at Alice Cooper shows in the past and have always been the most quintessential rock stars. In my opinion, Robin Zander's voice is the definition of rock 'n' roll, so having him guest vocal on 'California Man' definitely ticks a box off my 'greatest moments in rock 'n roll' list."

"Imagine Your Reality" continues Roxie's legacy of creating infectiously melodic songs and straight-ahead, no-nonsense rock riffs, and this time with more guitar than ever before. Ten tracks, all underlined by ten gleaming guitar solos. From the punk rock undertones of "Never Mind Me" to the un-sugarcoated tale of life in "La La Land (To Live And Die In LA)" to the superb BEATLES-y/OASIS nod "Look Me In The Eye" — it's an uplifting big rock soundd. Zander transforms "California Man" into the ultimate vintage-vibed, top-down, drive-in-the-sunshine rock 'n' roll anthem.

Ryan says: "With this album, I think we kept the spirit and power of the 3.5-minute rock song intact as well as keeping the dream of guitar-driven music alive and well. I can't wait for people to experience my reality."

The LP is currently available at www.bellyacherecords.com for pre-order and set to be released on May 25, 2018. Fans can order the LP's individually or in bundle packs with an exclusive T-Shirt and Guitar Pick pack.

Guild of Ages roots extend all the way back to 1989. The band was named Caught in the Act and they played every battle of the bands, benefit show or backyard party they could. The band quickly rose among the ranks of the most popular bands on the Denver rock scene. After winning a number of Battle of the Bands competitions, Caught in the Act started gaining attention from agents, management companies and A&R. The early 1990's brought about a significant change in the music scene away from Hard Rock, Metal and Melodic Rock. Bands like Nirvana and Pearl Jam became popular. Caught in the Act seemed to press on, despite the unpopularity of their music and it paid off. The band was noticed by former Axe / Blackfoot vocalist and guitarist Bobby Barth. Barth lived in Los Angeles and brought the band out for a recording session in the summer of 1992. The trip changed the landscape for the band significantly. After a drummer replacement, Caught in the Act sent a number of demo recordings to various record labels in Europe, Japan and the US. The melodic rock scene was still very much alive in Europe and Japan.

The Scandinavian record label Empire Records offered the band a recording and distribution deal in 1993 and Caught in the Act began recording ‘Act 1:Relapse of Reason’. Relapse of Reason was well received in both Europe and Japan. The boys began recording their follow up almost immediately after the release of their first effort, despite turmoil. Two member changes happened after the release of Relapse of Reason, but core members Antz Trujillo (guitar) and Danny Martinez (vocals) remained. Bassist Jim Lostetter and drummer Steve Stuntz joined in 1994, The band recorded and released Heat of Emotion and was subsequently signed to MTM Music in Europe and Toshiba EMI in Japan. The Heat of Emotion Cd received critical acclaim and served as a fantastic follow-up to their first release. The band was in demand and secured their first European tour as an opening act on the Pink Cream 69 - 1997 summer tour.

Caught in the Act was sued shortly thereafter by a Scandinavian "Boy Band" with the same name. Despite using the acronym CITA, the band was issued a cease and desist order and forced to change the name after nearly a decade. Guild of Ages was reborn in 1998, toured Europe that year with Axe, released 3 more studio CD's (One, Vox Dominatas, Citadel) and 1 Live CD (Live Over Germany). The band parted ways in 2002... In August of 2014, GOA was asked to reunite and play a festival show in Nottingham, England. Firefest: The Final Fling! The band agreed to play the show. The band had a number of ‘warm up’ shows lined up to help get back into the groove known as Guild of Ages. It was evident that the band still had chemistry and sounded as if they had never split. During these warm up gigs, they decided to reunite Guild of Ages not only for Firefest, but for years to come. The band travelled to England knowing that they planned on putting the band back together, but they had no idea the fan base was so strong. Even after all those years. The band finished recording 12 new tracks in December 2017. A chance inquiry from Khalil Turk of Escape Music Ltd, happened in early January 2018.

Escape Music was very interested to secured a deal to release the long-awaited new Guild of Ages album RISE …. now is coming on the 29th June 2018

All previous catalogue from CITA and Guild of Ages will be re-mastered and repackaged and will be available on Escape Music in the near future!!!

DARE Return To Their All-time Classic Debut June 29

Dare – Out Of the Silence II (re-recorded, special edition)
Release date: June 29, 2018
Label: Legend Records; Distributor: ADA/Warner

DARE are probably best known for their singer/songwriter Darren Wharton (who first rose to fame in the early eighties playing keyboards with legendary Irish rock band Thin Lizzy). Today DARE are one of the most respected and innovative melodic rock bands on the AOR scene, and have gained cult status among AOR fans throughout Europe, the UK and the world.

The band’s debut 1988 A&M album ‘Out Of The Silence’ recorded at Joni Mitchell’s Bel Air Studio in Los Angeles, and produced by Nickelback producer Mike Shipley is still widely regarded today as one of the all time great AOR albums.

Darren joined Philip Lynott’s Thin Lizzy at the tender age of eighteen and enjoyed 5 great years with the band touring extensively, alongside renowned guitarist Scott Gorham, drummer Brian Downey, guitarists Snowy White (Pink Floyd), Gary Moore and John Sykes (Whitesnake).
Working closely with Philip Lynott, Darren also recorded classic Thin Lizzy albums, such as ‘Chinatown’, ‘Renegade’, and ‘Thunder and Lightning’ on which Wharton co-wrote 3 songs, including the hit single ‘The Sun Goes Down’. Sadly, the latter was to be Thin Lizzy’s last studio album, and in 1986 Darren Wharton returned to his home town of Manchester where, as an outlet for his creative flare for song writing, working with young Oldham guitarist Vinny Burns, formed his own band, DARE.

Following the debut ‘Out Of The Silence’, Dare’s second offering was the explosive ‘Blood From Stone’ produced by Keith Olsen (Whitesnake, Scorpions).Sadly this was the last album recorded for A&M Records after the company was sold to Polygram in 1993. In 1994, Thin Lizzy reformed and Wharton found himself back with his old friends Scott Gorham, Brian Downey, John Sykes and Marco Mendosa, playing to packed out audiences across the world. But in 2000 Wharton decided to leave the Lizzy fold, and turn his focus back to DARE Now living in rugged mountains of North Wales, and working in his own studio, Wharton was soon back writing again. First album off the press was the majestic ‘Calm Before the Storm’.

Then followed releases Belief and Beneath The Shining Water, each of which gained BBC2 national radio coverage. Arc Of The Dawn was to follow and featured Dare’s classic cover of Thin Lizzy’s Emerald, and was again playlisted on Planet Rock radio; Each album adding new dimensions to the unique sound that was now synonymous with DARE.

By this time, Darren’s long time friend and original DARE guitarist Vinny Burns, was now firmly back in the band; With Kev Whitehead on Drums, Blood from Stone’s Nigel Clutterbuck on bass, and Marc Roberts on live Keys Dare’s lineup had never been stronger; and in 2016 DARE released their highly anticipated 7th studio album Sacred Ground. Sacred Ground delighted Dare fans everywhere, and after receiving spectacular reviews for European and UK press, quickly topped the Amazon Rock Charts in four countries, reaching number #1 in the UK, Germany, Spain and Italy.

After national chart success in Sweden, DARE also reached new heights in America, hitting number #12 in the U.S. Amazon Rock charts, and number #2 in the Japanese International Imports charts. Following acclaimed live performances in the UK, Rockingham, London Roundhouse, Germany’s Rock Of Ages, Sweden Rock Festival, Spain, Athens, Norway, the band’s reputation grew from strength to strength, reinstating Dare’s cult status in Europe and the UK and the world. With the first single ‘On My Own’ being playlisted on Planet Rock Radio for over 3 months, the band once more found themselves back on top of the AOR Rock scene.

Now 2018 promises to be another great chapter in the book of DARE, as the band celebrate their 30yr Anniversary with a Special Edition re-release of their debut classic album ‘Out Of The Silence’. Out Of The Silence II has been completely re-recorded and in Wharton’s own words “has taken on a new life”. Rockier and harder sounding than and the original version, this fresh new recording will set the stage for the bands European tour starting off at London’s Shepherd’s Bush Empire on the 18th May. With a brand new studio album set for 2019, it’s clear that DARE are back to stay, and ready to Rock!

CLIF MAGNESS Declares He's A 'Lucky Dog'

Artist:
Friday, July 13, 2018
Categories:
News Feed

In the early '90s, melodic rock had more or less left the mainstream and become an underground affair championed by a group of small indie labels in Europe. But, in 1994, one spectacular release appeared on the scene from a singer/ songwriter named Clif Magness, entitled “Solo” that managed to collect truly rave reviews from all over the world (yes, even in a time when melodic rock was considered dead and gone).

“After receiving numerous requests from fans all over the world, I am excited to announce that I’m teaming up with Frontiers and releasing a new solo album,” says Clif. “Very cool to be working with Frontiers and after too long, on my own project. Years have passed since my last solo effort, but the truth is, I am, at the heart of things, a journeyman songwriter, and producer for others, and still am. But I have had an awesome time stepping out and putting together this record.“ Clif continues, “Some very loyal Melodic Rock, Planet 3 and Clif Magness fans worldwide have been asking me to record a follow up to “Solo” for a few years now. I contacted a couple of long time collaborators of mine, Mark Mueller , Jennifer Grais and Brock Walsh to write some new songs. I also included a new writer named Sherrie Adams. During the writing process, I contacted the esteemed vocalist Robin Beck. Robin recorded a song I wrote with Steve Kipner called “Footprints In The Rain” years ago, I’m a huge fan of her work! With Sherrie, we wrote “Love Needs A Heart” and recorded it as a duet”.

The first song/video, “Ain’t No Way” was written with Mark Mueller who also wrote “If We Can’t Do It” with Clif on “Solo”. Clif says, “Mark has a great lyrical talent, especially in the “kick ass” context. I think kicking off an album with a barn burner is important. Also it has the theme of self-empowerment”. Watch the video and hear the song here: https://youtu.be/cG2sRD2mR0Q

“I’ve always been interested in the recording process. I literally had a mixer and two tape recorders in my bedroom when I was thirteen. That is to say that my studio is now at my home where I write, produce, engineer and perform all of the instruments and mix. Soup to nuts! Whenever I can, I ask Josh Freese to perform the drum tracks. And on “Lucky Dog”, my son Evan performed many of the guitar tracks," explains Clif.

But who is Clif Magness? Well, he certainly needs no introduction for music fanatics who have devoted much of their time over the years to reading the credits in album liners. By the time the "Solo" record came out, he already made a name for himself co-writing and producing a #1 hit with Jack Wagner (“All I Need”), a top 5 hit for Wilson Phillips (“Impulsive”), and winning a Recording Academy / GRAMMY for the song “The Places You Find Love” from Quincy Jones‘ critically acclaimed album, “Back On The Block”. Just three years later, in 1993, Clif was nominated for an Oscar and a Golden Globes Award for the song “The Day I Fall In Love” from the film “Beethoven’s 2nd”, co-written with Carole Bayer Sager and James Ingram. Throughout the 1990s and into 2000, Clif continued to work with outstanding artists such as Céline Dion, Hanson, Steve Perry, Amy Grant, and Joe Bonamassa, among others. Clif was also instrumental in developing perhaps the biggest breakout artist of 2003, Avril Lavigne. Being among the first writer/producers to work with Avril, Clif’s writing and production style became the benchmark for the album. Clif co- wrote and produced the fourth, much edgier, Avril Lavigne single “Losing Grip,” as well as five other tracks from her multi-platinum debut “Let Go.” Of course he has kept on working and creating some great and hugely successful music for many singers in the past few years, including Kelly Clarkson, Vanessa Amorosi, Tyler Hilton, Robin Beck, Marie Digby, Julia Michaels, and many others.

Frontiers Music Srl is truly honored and excited to welcome such a huge talent to the label and firmly believes this will continue their unapproachable track record of bringing AOR fans music they are more than happy to hear. The new release will follow in the footsteps of “Solo”, with an updated production and sound befitting of the 21st century.

GIOELI CASTRONOVO Pairs The HARDLINE Duo Together Again

Friday, July 13, 2018
Categories:
News Feed

Johnny Gioeli and Deen Castronovo first played together on the debut Hardline album, “Double Eclipse”, which was released in 1992. 25 years later, the two were reunited in Italy to commence work on the debut Gioeli-Castronovo album, “Set The World On Fire”.

“It was so great to work with Johnny again, I’ve always loved his voice and it was a pleasure to be a part of this collaboration! It was like we’d never left each other,” says Castronovo.

“It was like the first day he tried to hold my hand and kiss me in 1992. Ha Ha!!! KIDDING! Seriously, I never left Deen. Deen never left me, so reuniting was easy. Counting our blessings were plentiful. Singing together was magical,” says Gioeli about working with Castrovo again.

Both men have continued on their musical paths since they last saw one another, with Gioeli continuing to lead Hardline, while Castronovo spent time with Ozzy Osbourne and had an extended tour of duty with the legendary Journey. Castronovo is currently active with The Dead Daisies and Revolution Saints in addition to Gioeli-Castronovo.

Gioeli’s vocal talents combined with Deen’s superb drumming abilities (and whom is also a fine vocalist in his own right) has made for a stunning album that is driving a driving hard rock record, while also chock full of uplifting melodies and poignant lyrical messages.

We’d tell you to sit back and enjoy this album, but you’ll be on your feet the second it starts, so stand up and take notice of this display of two immense talents doing what they do best!

TWO OF A KIND 'Rise' With Second Album

TWO OF A KIND's self-titled debut album was released by the Frontiers label back in 2007. Fred Hendrix, best known as the main songwriter and singer for the Melodic Rock masters TERRA NOVA, heads up the band and back at the turn of the century, Fred had become more and more interested in production and songwriting. He started looking for new and fresh talent to develop and following several suggestions from Frontiers Records’ President and A&R Director, Serafino Perugino, Fred hooked up with not one but two female singers, Esther Brouns and Anita Craenmehr.

After a few writing sessions, Fred submitted the plan for a new band with a great melodic rock edge in the style of Boston meets Heart to Frontiers, who liked the material and signed the band in late 2005. Recording of the self-titled debut album was completed during the summer of ‘06 with Fred’s TERRA NOVA bandmates Gesuino Derosas (guitar), Hans in't Zandt (drums, also drummer for Praying Mantis), and Fred's brother Ron Hendrix (keyboards) joining the proceedings.

“TWO OF A KIND” was met with a warm reception from fans and critics alike and now the whole gang is back together for another album. The result is “Rise”, a record chock full of splendid melodic rock songs! “I wrote like I did on the first album, all songs on my own. I produced the album but I always leave the rest of the band free to bring in their own ideas,” says Fred Hendrix. “Sometimes it is tricky to create songs for two different singers because they have a different range and colour, so I have always to take into account the fact that Esther has a high pitched smooth voice, whereas Anita has a lower rough voice. However, they match very well together and I hope the fans will like the final result again!”

The long overdue follow-up to their debut album is sure to please melodic rock fans around the globe with the performances of all members even more electric than on the debut.
