MelodicRock Records Error: Arti Tisi

An unfortunate screw up with one of last year’s MRR titles was brought to my attention this week.

The Arti Tisi release “The Reeperbahn” contains a track that isn’t Arti at all. “When You Love Someone” is actually the original Drive She Said track, as released on the “Driving Wheel” album. And it seems we also used the original master of “Think Of Love”, with Arti's voice overdub, without permission as well.

It’s no excuse, but a lot of the source material lacked labelling, so this clearly demonstrates an area that needs to be handled more carefully with future planned archive releases.

Obviously this was an unintentional and innocent mistake, but also a pretty dumb one at that. MelodicRock Records and Arti Tisi sincerely apologise to Mark and Al’s family.

The album features new members Travis Wills [vocals], Steve Nichols [drums] and Neil Bertrand [bass] together with founding member Dave Harvey [guitars]."The Great Divide" is the follow-up to "Carry The Fire", the label debut for the Swedish label Ulterium Records. It is with great pleasure that MelodicRock Records announces the signing of Swedish hard rockers StoneLake for the release of their new studio release ‘Thunder And Rain’.

It is the third release in a partnership with StoneLake’s founder Jan Akesson, following previous albums from S.A.Y and Jan Akesson’s Shadow Rain.

This will be StoneLake’s seventh album and their first in 5 years. The band might have a new updated logo, but ‘Thunder And Rain’ is an album of classic StoneLake you know and love – high octane guitar riffs, pounding rhythm section and layers of vocals and keyboards brining the melody.

Bound to appeal to fans of Swedish hard rock, TNT and Yngwie Malmsteen and the like…

Jan Akesson comments: “We are happy to announce the release of our 7th album "Thunder and Rain" through Melodic Rock Records! After a break of nearly 5 years it's great to have finished the work of an album that we are very proud of!”

Vocalist Peter Gundstrom: “With this work we are back to the roots where we once started off with melodic songs, harmonies and riffs like the old school! Everything comes from heart and soul and I am very humble still to be able and deliver what I love!”

Jan concludes: “To release this album is great because this means that we are back for the future again! We feel that the songwriting and production gets better all the time and this have no ending as long as we love what we are doing! We would also like to thank Andrew for believing in us and that our cooperation goes on and on!”

StoneLake Bio:
In August 1984 guitarist Jan Akesson and singer Peter Grundstrom got to know each other after performing at the same show in different bands; Jan was lead guitar in Ravage and Peter was fronting Whitelight. Their meeting led to the conclusion of Jan’s work with Ravage and he became a new member in Whitelight in the fall of the same year.

Whitelight’s focus was melodic hard rock, initially influenced by Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin and Bad Company and then by a 'new wave' of English, American and Canadian bands such as Whitesnake, Van Halen, Journey, Toto, Riot, Wrabit and Dokken. Whitelight played many gigs and produced many demos in search of that elusive record deal.

After 3 years with Whitelight, in 1987, Jan decided to leave the band and went his own way to spread his wings with tougher, more guitar-oriented hard rock. Peter stayed in Whitelight, who changed their name to Kee Avenue.
Jan went on to form new bands Why Not, Perfect Stranger and Dr Blue, playing many very successful gigs and making several acclaimed recordings.

Kee Avenue split up in 1991 after the bass player and the keyboard player left the band. After this final breakup Peter went on to play and sing with several different, mostly cover bands, though he kept on writing songs, always looking for the right project to showcase his talent.

In 1994 Jan decided to step back from live performance to concentrate on writing and producing songs in his new studio on the emerging digital recording platforms that would soon come to dominate the music industry.

Finally, 15 years after the two first played together, Jan decided to give Peter a call, thinking that it was time for a ‘reunion’. A good meal and a few beers was the spark that lit a new beginning.

The result was StoneLake.

'Thunder And Rain' will be released April 25 on MelodicRock Records.

Swedish rockers Captain Black Beard have signed with Melodic Rock Records for the release of their new studio album ‘Struck By Lightning’, coming worldwide April 25.

The first single and video from the album “All The Pain”, is out now, with the new video 'Dead End Street' making it's debut now:
The new album sees a switch in musical direction for the band, unleashing a wave of powerful new anthemic, pure melodic rock songs.

“It’s an honor to work with such enthusiastic champions of our genre.” says bassist Robert Majd.

In the summer of 2017 Captain Black Beard entered the studio to write a new chapter in the bands history. Robert Majd and Christian Ek along with new lead singer Liv Hansson as well as producer Jona Tee (keyboardist in H.E.A.T) pretty much reinvented the band’s sound.

The album that was recorded is called ‘Struck By Lightning’ and features a fresh dose of high energy melodic rock. From the instant catchiness of the opening track “All The Pain” to the heavy closing of “Straight Out Of Hell”, the band combines their AOR influences with their hard rock roots.

“This is a tremendous album and I’m really excited for the guys,” states MRR owner Andrew McNeice. “They’ve created a great new sound that brings together everything I love about music – killer songs, big production and hooks and harmonies everywhere. This album is going to put the guys on the map.”

Captain Black Beard was formed in 2009. Their self-titled debut album was named one of the "Albums Of The Year" by legendary journalist Geoff Barton of Classic Rock. The follow-up "Before Plastic" featured guest appearances by Bruce Kulick (KISS, Grand Funk Railroad) and Mats Karlsson (220 Volt). In 2016 the band released "It's a Mouthful" and toured with Joe Lynn Turner (Rainbow, Yngwie Malmsteen, Deep Purple), Robin Beck, House Of Lords and performed at the festival Hard Rock Hell AOR for the second time in their career.

A release party will be held in Stockholm, Sweden on the 9th of May. Check out the bands website or facebook-page for all the latest news: www.facebook.com/CaptainBlackBeardBand / www.CaptainBlackBeard.net

BIG CITY is a melodic heavy rock/metal band from Norway with tons of experience in the music industry. The members have been playing or still play in extreme bands as Satyricon and Blood Red Throne, but also the up and coming prog metal band Withem and many other bands.
The reason for Big City is songwriter Daniel Olaisen and his ideas throughout the last 10 years. He wanted to put his 80’s heavy riffs in a band and find suitable people to join him. Bandmate, Frank Ørland, also played with Daniel in Scariot (1999-2005, prog/thrash/heavy band featuring Communic members) and was an obvious choice to bring to Big CityFrank Nordeng Røe (WithemMarathon, session drummer for Circus Maximus) on drums, was found when searching on internet. The band was completed with Jan Le Brandt on vocals and Geir Inge Olsen on session bass guitar. The debut album, Wintersleep, was recorded and released in 2013 digitally through Mayhem Music.
Big City continued to write material for another album. Miguel Pereira (Withem) was recruited as their new permanent bass player. Big City is now planning to perform live in 2018 for the first time!

THE CARS Forty Year Road Trip To Rock Hall

Artist:
Wednesday, November 26, 2014
Categories:
Podcasts & Radio

Dallas, TX - April 5, 2018.  North American syndicated Rock radio show and website IN THE STUDIO with Redbeard: The Stories Behind History's Greatest Rock Bands celebrates The CARS 40th anniversary on the eve of their induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

The Cars‘ zero-to-platinum popularity came amidst the final fizzle of the mid-Seventies Punk Rock sparkler, and the sound and attitude that survived by Spring 1978 was labeled by at least one rock writer as the nebulous one-size-fits-none term New Wave.

The drivetrain of the five man Boston band was always powered by the songs of Ric Ocasek. Growing up in the Otcasek household (Ric(k) later would also drop the “t” from his surname), early 1960s Sputnik paranoia and Telstar technology mixed with Cold War James Bond spy intrigue for Ric, courtesy of his father.

The Cars’ test track where they had tuned up their sound was the mid-Seventies Boston club scene, and the first recording to roll off the assembly line,”Just What I Needed“, contains every musical hallmark of their identifiable style: the catchy simplicity of Ocasek’s songwriting; the half-spoken halting unconventional lead singing by both Ric and bass player Benjamin Orr, allowing The Cars to be a versatile hybrid crossover with all-terrain vocals; the insistent industrial beat by former Modern Lovers drummer David Robinson; the quirky, campy, reedy organ and synthesizer of Berklee School of Music grad Greg Hawkes; and the melodic yet economical lead guitar of Elliot Easton.

"We made that first record in twelve days,” remarks The Cars’ driving force Ric Ocasek in this IN THE STUDIO classic rock interview. What is even more remarkable is that The Cars would accelerate from regional Boston appeal in May 1978 to parked on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine by the following January with the headline “Best New Group”, eventually to sell seven million copies of that incredible debut album.

The Cars  surprise hit debut (#16 on Rolling Stone magazine’s Top 100 Debut Albums of All Time), the torque of the Cars’ “Good Times Roll”, “My Best Friend’s Girl”, “Just What I Needed”, “You’re All I Got Tonight”, “Bye Bye Love”, the mesmerizing “Moving in Stereo”, and the plaintive lead vocal by the late Benjamin Orr “All Mixed Up” all propelled the cross-legged Woodstock generation off of their butts and back onto the dance floor. The sleek polished chrome and glass produced sound by Journey/ Queen veteran Roy Thomas Baker combined distinctive instrumental arrangements from rock and roll’s past in a way that, paradoxically, sounded cutting edge modern.

Forty years later we still rev up this high-horsepower rock roadster which runs as well today as the day in May 1978 when The Cars rolled off the production line. Neck and neck with Heartbeat City as their best seller, The Cars  is highly responsible for shuttling the band from the parking lot to get the green light for entrance into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

The Cars 40th & Rock Hall Edition /IN THE STUDIO with Redbeard interview is available now to STREAM at: www.inthestudio.net/online-on-demand/cars-40th-ric-ocasek-greg-hawkes

TNT Issue Statement In Response To Fan Reaction

Artist:

To counter the overwhelming negative reaction to the new TNT track 'Are You Ready For Some Hard Rock', TNT guitarist Ronnie LeTekro has issued the following statement:

"The musical direction on the new album contains classic TNT songs and is generally very melodic. In that respect, ‘Get Ready For Some Hard Rock’ is kind of untypical for the album that mainly consists of melodic hard rock in the vein of '80s TNT, but we and Frontiers thought it would be a cool track as a teaser and a ‘message’ to rockers all over the world.
This album is as diverse as 'Tell No Tales' and we are very happy about it. Look out for the first proper 'single' "Tears In My Eyes" coming in May. It can’t sound more TNT than that one! :)
Haters and skeptics will be turned into LOVERS again. - Love & Respect, Ronni Tekro"

Original VICIOUS RUMORS Bassist DAVE STARR Celebrates The 30-Year Anniversary Of 'Digital Dictator'

ORIGINAL VICIOUS RUMORS BASSIST DAVE STARR CELEBRATES THE 30-YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF THE BAND'S LEGENDARY 1988 ALBUM, 'DIGITAL DICTATOR,' WITH NEW FACEBOOK PAGE

Before playing guitar and bass in WildeStarr, and a run with CHASTAIN, Dave Starr was the bassist in one of the world's premier power metal bands; VICIOUS RUMORS (aka VR). As a member for 10 years on all of VR's greatest albums, tours, and videos, Dave was also the one responsible for bringing vocalist Carl Albert and guitarist Mark McGee into the band, thus cementing the greatest lineup in the bands history.

The first album with this lineup, 'DIGITAL DICTATOR,' was recorded the summer of 1987, and released on Shrapnel records April of 1988. The record became an instant classic worldwide, and the band played tour dates in the USA, Mexico, Canada and Europe. The record is still in print and selling strong - 30 years after its release!

Dave says: "Digital Dictator is generally regarded by VR fans as the band's best album. Everything clicked - we all contributed to the songwriting, and the amazing chemistry the 5 of us had just came through with incredible results."

Shrapnel Records President Mike Varney recently said, "Vicious Rumors was one of the early bands that I signed to Shrapnel. Among many other distinctions, VR were a live band and not a studio project. 'Digital Dictator' has become a metal classic and, among other things, introduced amazing vocalist Carl Albert to the world. It's hard to believe that 30 years has passed but the quality of the performances has stood the test of time."

Dave has put together a new Facebook page dedicated to the VR 'Digital Dictator' album 30th anniversary:
www.facebook.com/groups/DaveStarrVRDD30/?ref=bookmarks

This FB page will feature pics and stories from the classic 'Digital Dictator' era, and more importantly, Dave has finally unleashed never before seen videos he had filmed of the band! These videos have sat in boxes for over 30 years, until Dave started to transfer them to digital format this year. LIVE shows, backstage, in the studio, hanging out, etc. - a literal treasure trove of VR videos that are finally seeing the light of day!! The first 4 segments are up now for all the fans to see for the first time ever, with lots more videos to come.

Dave Starr is now available for interviews with the metal press worldwide to discuss the VR Digital Dictator 30th anniversary 1988 - 2018, and the new WildeStarr "Beyond the Rain" CD (issued in December of last year). And you can expect the following from Dave in conversation:

* Unique insight from Dave Starr, who was the bassist in VR for 10 years, and played on all the bands greatest albums, tours, and videos.
* Co-writer of 3 songs from the Digital Dictator album: RLH, Digital Dictator, and Replicant
* The straight story, with no BS and no filter. Dave tells it like it was...and is.
* The true story behind how Dave assembled the VR Digital Dictator lineup

March 28, 2018 -- SONS OF APOLLO--former Dream Theater members Mike Portnoy and Derek Sherinian, Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal (ex-Guns N’ Roses), Billy Sheehan (The Winery Dogs, Mr. Big, David Lee Roth) and Jeff Scott Soto (ex-Journey, ex-Yngwie Malmsteen's Rising Force)—released a six-song EP today, “ALIVE”/“TENGO VIDA,” which includes three versions of the latest single, “Alive,” from their #1 debut album, PSYCHOTIC SYMPHONY, as well as three versions of the song in Spanish, “Tengo Vida.”  It’s available now on all digital outlets worldwide.

Here’s the complete track listing:

Alive – album version
Alive - radio edit
Alive - acoustic version
Tengo Vida (Alive Spanish version) – standard
Tengo Vida (Alive Spanish version) – radio edit
Tengo Vida (Alive Spanish version) – acoustic version

The Vicente Cordero-directed for “Alive” is now available in both versions.

The English version can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_O8VZgL_9IQ.

“It was discussed we should do a Spanish language version of ‘Alive’ before our first tour in South America and I was excited to make it work,” explains singer Jeff Scott Soto. “I brought in my close friend Alex to help with the translation as well as coach me on my enunciation. I am not fluent in Spanish so it was a difficult process, but it sounds pretty damn cool now that we made it work. I think my favorite part is hearing Bumblefoot singing in Spanish!”

Guitarist Ron “Bumblefoot” Thal is excited about offering these new versions of “Alive” to their fans. "I love stripping down a song to its simplest form, showing the core of what the song is,” he says. “The acoustic version of ‘Alive’ has that naked vulnerability, and shows what a great lyricist and melody-maker Jeff is."

Motherlode Reload And Launch STONEFACE

In 1982 the Swedish hard rock band Motherlode was formed. Now, 2018 three of the original band members launch Stoneface.

Their debut album will be released on the 7th April. No prizes for guessing the name of the album.

The year 1982 was the beginning of an important era of Swedish modern hard rock history. Hard rock act Motherlode was formed in 1982 by Peter Rundstroem, (bass) and Tom Nilsson, (guitars), together with lyricist Christer Hellstroem. Martin Hedberg, (drums) joined 1985, and the band was a part of the Swedish hard rock scene in various settings until the final break-up in 2014, with Sonny Larsson as well as Per Englund as the bands lead vocalists.
Motherlode released The Sanctuary 1987, with producer Kit Woolven and Magnum keyboardist Mark Stanway, and Tomorrow Never Comes in 2010.

When Motherlode finally was put to rest in 2014, Tom decided to form a new band with his old band members, Peter, Christer and Martin. This setup with a lineup that hadn´t played together since 1996 started to produce new songs in 2014, and started the search for a new vocalist, preparing for their first gig, planned to be set for 2017.
When the name Stoneface was decided, the band recorded four demo songs in 2015, and hired gun Stefan Nykvist was brought in to put vocals to four demo songs. After almost two years of songwriting and producing, the band has now found their permanent vocalist, Andreas Novak, (Mind´s Eye, House of Shakira), and their new album Stoneface, is about to be released in April 2018.

Stoneface music, which comes in style of the hard rock/metal trade, with bands like Black Sabbath, Ozzy Osbourne, Rainbow, Dream Theater, and Rush, and other contemporary bands during the late seventies, and early eighties. But, you can easily find more modern influences like Black Stone Cherry, and Black Label Society as well.

The brew is strong riffs, heavy drum grooves, and majestic basslines, with truly great harmonies and melodies, which leaves space and great opportunities for Mr. Novak to set the standard for the band to become a rock-solid diamond on the modern metal scene.
Stoneface debut album is due for release at their premier concert the 7th of April 2018 at The Frimis Salonger in Orebro.

Spring, summer and autumn 2018 you will be able to see Stoneface in action at a festival or rock club nearby, so keep them Heavy Metal Goggles open….
