This folks, is an example of how to deliver a momentum killing release. After the excellent debut, Michael Sweet and George Lynch looked to have formed a new alliance with lasting potential. But then they went and delivered this. The guys get all mystic and experimental on this album, which struggles to maintain any kind of flow or cohesive musical message. From hard rock to alt-metal to bluesy ballads and even some rapping on one track (before bursting into a Queen like chorus!).

It just isn’t very good. I don’t like most of the songs, or the styles used and it just seems all over the place. A long long way from the classy debut and I can just imagine the message from the label going back to these guys if they ever want to do a third album!

If you consider the songs on VOODOO CIRCLE’s new album "Raised On Rock" to be an indicator of the current emotional condition their most important protagonists find themselves in, there seems to be no reason to worry about band founder, guitarist and main composer Alex Beyrodt in particular. Thanks to Beyrodt’s excellent songwriting – as usual inspired by renowned sources such as Whitesnake, Rainbow, Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin and Jimi Hendrix – and his outstanding guitar performance which brings to mind icons from Ritchie Blackmore through Jimmy Page to John Sykes, this recording oozes pure, unadulterated fervour.

This exuberant energy, however, isn’t the merit of Beyrodt alone but, without doubt, also that of his colleagues Mat Sinner (bass), Francesco Jovino (drums) and – last but not least – new vocalist Herbie Langhans (Avantasia). Beyrodt and Langhans met in 2015 at the Wacken Open Air, when they belted out the Wacken anthem together from the gigantic Black Stage.
Beyrodt: “The amazing thing about this story is that Herbie and I had never met before but talked to each other in person for the very first time after we’d rocked only minutes earlier the 100,000 people in front of the stage and around four million viewers in front of their TV sets.”

With Langhans as the group’s new frontman, the stylistic direction of the Voodoo Circle compositions hasn’t significantly changed – unlike the general flair of the material: “I feel that the band sounds even more autonomous, a little less bluesy and much meatier with Herbie at the mic,” Beyrodt enthuses. “This allowed me to work on ideas which would probably not really
have suited his predecessor David Readman but are absolutely perfect for Herbie’s powerful voice.” The Voodoo Circle boss is referring to numbers such as ´Running Away From Love` with its anthemnic vocal melody and the subsequent midtempo rock track ´Higher Love`, which went down a treat with the audience at its official live debut.

Beyrodt: “In the beginning, the song caused me a number of sleepless nights because I felt that there was still one small, all-important element missing. Then I came up with the idea of the talk box, which lends it a different, very interesting note. To me, ´Higher Love` in its current form is one of the best Voodoo Circle numbers of all time.” The almost six-and-a-half-minute ´Dreamchaser` with its Blackmore references dates back to the very early days of the group. Beyrodt had originally composed it for the 2008 Voodoo Circle debut album but wasn’t entirely satisfied with the result

at the time. “The arrangement of the number was changed and overhauled repeatedly over the years, now it’s matured to the point where it was ready for recording.” ´You Promised Me Heaven` sees Beyrodt delve deep into the Page/Sykes bag of tricks, a veritable guitar festival featuring Telecaster, Strat and Les Paul sounds which support the bluesy feel of the track, adding even greater depth.

Talking of the sound: "Raised On Rock" was mixed and mastered by Jacob Hansen (Volbeat, U.D.O.), whose unerring instinct for dynamics and frequencies lends the recording its modern touch. And another musician contributed significantly to the tight overall impression of Raised On Rock: the keyboards were manned by Corvin Bahn (Saxon, Uli Jon Roth). So all in all, we
can say that the new Voodoo Circle album truly lives up to its programmatic title.

"Raised On Rock" will be available on February 9th as CD, Digipak and ltd. colored Vinyl.

Swedish Metallers DENIED Release New Lyric Video

DENIED, the Swedish metal band, has on Friday 8:th of December released the lyric video for the single "BEGGARS AND THIEVES" (Sliptrick Records). The song featuring on vocals former singer Johan Fahlberg (JADED HEART) and Joakim Floke (MANNY RIBERA) on keyboard.

BEGGARS AND THIEVES was recorded with producer Fredrik Folkare (UNLEASHED, FIRESPAWN) who also handled the mixing and mastering at Chrome Studios Stockholm/Sweden. Artwork by Alexander Lifbom.

Drive was a five-piece progressive, power metal band formed on the northside of Houston, Texas by Rick Chavez. They released two albums, Characters In Time (1988) and Diablero (1992).

The band initially came together in the early 1980’s when its original members were barely out of high school. After making a name for themselves in their home state of Texas they made the move to Los Angeles, CA which was quickly becoming the epicenter of the rock music scene. The band took to the World Famous Sunset Strip and quickly made a name for themselves and signed on with Rob Gordon and Vince Hans of LA’s Flash Management. After winning a radio contest with their song “I Need The Nights,” Drive landed on the KNAC Radio Best Of The West compilation released by Rampage Records, the hard rock division of Rhino Records.

Impressed with their intelligent, thought-provoking lyrics and signature sound, Rampage Records executive Bob Cahill signed the band, and in July 1988 Drive released their debut LP, Characters In Time. The album received rave reviews from the industry’s hard rock press, including the coveted 5 “K” rating from Kerrang! Magazine. The album also received airplay from hard rock stations around the country as the band toured across the USA.
At the beginning of the next decade, Zoo Records’ Lou Maglia made the Rampage owners an offer they couldn’t refuse and purchased the band’s contract. In 1992 Drive released the sonically advanced Diablero on Zoo Records. Sadly, a shake-up at the label along with the dawn of the metal-killing “grunge” scene left the album without much of a push, and although Chavez had already written and recorded demo tapes for what was to be the bands third album, title IDEFI, recording was put on hold and the band members moved back to Texas.

On June 30, 2009 vocalist David Taylor passed away after a fatal car accident on a San Antonio Interstate.

On February 25, 2017 founder, guitarist and songwriter Rick Chavez passed from an internal bleed that went undetected until it was too late.

Now, IDEFI, A Tribute to Rick Chavez and David Earl Taylor. The album includes, 15 unreleased songs with both Taylor and Chavez taking the lead on vocals. The bands signature style is intact with a sound that brims with pride, an unrelenting fighting spirit, and fierce determination. Although these songs were recorded over 20 years ago, the intelligent lyrics still resonate today with Taylor's dynamic vocals and a musical backdrop that roars with power and precision.

FIRST SONG "TRAVELERS OF TIME" REVEALED

2018 marks the beginning of yet another era in Angra's history.

At age 26, the band shows motivation and strength like never before. Not even the sometimes uncertain trajectory was able to take away the focus, determination and inspiration of the quintet led - and foundedd - by Rafael Bittencourt, and formed by Felipe Andreoli (bass), Fabio Lione (vocals), Marcelo Barbosa (guitar) and Bruno Valverde (drums).

ØMNI is Angra's 9th studio album, the result of months of intense dedication, blood, and sweat. It will be released on February 16, 2018 on earMUSIC.

Once again, the album has been recorded in Sweden with Jens Bogren, who also produced the previous album Secret Garden, and manages to capture the same excellent chemistry.

The sound, while fully contemporary, has an organic character and respects the different nuances and dynamics of each instrument. Many musicians were involved in creating the album, ranging from the percussion sound of Bahia to European orchestral arrangement - all of which give tthe album its outstanding variety.

ØMNI is a concept album, a set of science fiction short stories that take place at various places in time, simultaneously. The backbone of the plot is based on the idea that in 2046 an artificial intelligence system will change human perception and cognition. It is a system which will allow conscious communication between present and future human beings. Characters such as time travellers, cavemen, warriors, among others, help tell this story.

The album connects the concepts of previous albums (Holy Land, Rebirth, Temple of Shadows) to one main system, ØMNI, which in Latin means "everything." ØMNI fabricates an interconnectivity that shines light towards a universal truth: everything that has happened, led to what the band is today. ØMNI celebrates and unites the whole history of Angra to this exact, current moment.

Angra's trademark formula, a Brazilian style mixed with classical music and heavy metal, is enhanced by different influences such as progressive rock, thrash metal, Latin music, and djent, which transforms the albums into a swirl of modern and familiar. The conjoined moods and dynamics put a special spin on the lyrics and therefore increase deep sense of immersion in the story.

The cover artwork was hand-drawn by Daniel Martin Diaz, a unique American artist who dedicates his life to mixing scientific and philosophical concepts such as Anatomy, Computer Science, Mathematics, Cosmology, Sacred Geometry, Symbolism and Esotericism. The designer Gustavo Sazes was responsible for integrating such an organic art piece to the visual concept of the album as a whole.

Even in a cultural environment increasingly sterile and unfavourable for music with soul and identity, the band gathers eleven tracks that completely differ from each other, but at the same time tell a cohesive story, and wander through all styles and nuances that have made Angra a worldwide reference. A very well bonded line-up, both personally and musically, overflowing with creativity, was the necessary fuel to bring these songs to life, songs which are undoubtedly among the best in the band's discography.

ØMNI certainly is a milestone, not only in the history of the band, but also for Brazilian metal and its recognition worldwide.

PRAYER are back! It has been some 12 years since we were presented with the album “Wrong Address” (ESM117), which really set the pace way back in 2005 and gained the band a cult following. Then they followed up with an excellent album “Danger in the Dark” (ESM241) in 2012 and gained some more fans along the way.

If you are unfamiliar with Prayer well they play Melodic Rock/AOR and hail from Oulu in Northern Finland. They are the brainchild of Tapani Tikkanen who is the main driving force behind the band.

Tapani´s musical career began in the early eighties with “IC-Rock” and continued later with “Tanna”. Together with those bands he did hundreds of gigs all over Finland but after several albums and more than 20,000 records sold, it was time for a break. However, he kept writing songs, such as three albums for the craziest football club in the world, F.C.Rainbow and a solo single entitled “Everyone's a Winner”.

Tapani wanted to create a band that brought out his rock and roll heart. After the recording of a few demos Tapani contacted his friend and keyboard-wizard Jari Huvila to talk about forming the band PRAYER. Since “Wrong Address” there has been some line-up changes, which now features distinguished keyboards player Mika Pohjola as well as Tom Pohjola on Bass.

Prayer excel in exciting hard melodic rock with a style that joins together the best of Thin Lizzy, Saga, Treat and sometimes a little bit of Royal Hunt. Their music has meaning and these guys are all committed to making this one of the most talked about Scandinavian bands in recent years. Anyone with a penchant for soaring vocals, driving guitars and plenty of keyboards are in for a real treat. Just check out songs like Fires of the Heart and Feel like a prisoner for prime examples of their work. This is a superb album and certainly their best to date.

It's as if all your prayers have been answered.

Best described as a band that perfectly recreates the music of Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones and John Bonham, Jason Bonham’s Led Zeppelin Evening not only celebrates one of music’s most iconic bands but also the life of Bonham's late father, who died in 1980.

When asked why he decided to start the project, Jason said, "It was medicine to relieve myself from the amount of Led Zeppelin that I had studied and rehearsed prior to the O2 show and then dealing with the realization that it wasn’t going to go anywhere beyond that one concert. It originally began as me just wanting to put together a show, but once I realized I could make it more than just the music it became something more. It gave me the opportunity to give a little nod to what everyone knows about my dad’s wild side but also show his sensitive side as well. For me, he was always dad at home and this was an idea to show a deeper side of that."

They’re not showing any signs of taking a break from touring in 2018.

Earlier this summer, STYX announced another special five-night limited engagement with DON FELDER -at The Venetian Theatre inside The Venetian Las Vegas. Presented by SiriusXM, “Styx & Don Felder: Renegades In The Fast Lane,” will take place at The Venetian Theatre inside The Venetian Las Vegas on January 26, 27, 31 and February 2, 3, 2018. In addition to the residency in Las Vegas, the rest of STYX’s 2018 tour schedule is already starting to take shape. For a time in the early 1980's it looked like as if Jon Butcher's career would know no bounds. As anyone who picked up a copy of the self-titled Jon Butcher Axis album upon its original release in 1983 would concur, here was a star on the rise. Such an upwards trajectory was well deserved given his undeniable talent, the quality of that debut and the ensuing sophomore affair “Stare at the Sun”. Indeed both albums should have resulted in greater rewards than they ultimately did at the time.

Although Jon would enjoy a good deal of recognition for later recorded work, such as “Wishes” (released under his own name rather than the band handle), perhaps the answer to any questions that are asked over Butcher's lack of bigger and more sustained success may be allied to the one that asks “why has it taken well over thirty years for his first two records to be officially released on CD? Sure, several of the best tracks from both albums have surfaced on compilations of Jon's work but never before has either album been issued on its entirety on a silver shiny disc. That is about to change

Jon had an obsession with the guitar from age 5 and his first real band was called Johanna Wild, a band that certainly caught the attention of many people, his influences including BB King, Jimi Hendrix, Jeff Beck and Buddy Guy.

Notable tracks from the first album include "Ocean in Motion" and "Walk Like This". This album reached No. 91 in the Billboard pop album charts and Axis' video "Life Takes a Life" became one of the first videos by a black artist to receive airtime on MTV. At that time, the only two black artists enjoying MTV coverage were The Jon Butcher Axis and Michael Jackson. The result of his success afforded further growing popularity for the band, which added the opportunity to tour with Rush ('Signals' tour '83),Def Leppard ('Pyromania' tour '83) and Scorpions ('Hurricane' tour '84). amongst others.

Jon Butcher has an undeniable talent and this 10 track album from the classic early eighties era shows just what this man had to offer. Timeless..

Away from the music scene for nearly 10 years since the release of the critically and commercially well received third album, ‘Global Warning’, finally another slab of classic British hard rock is on the way.

MRR and BURN are proud to announce that band’s fourth album, ‘Ice Age’, is mastered and ready for release.

The album has been produced by Barney Stackhouse and mixed by the Grammy award winning Tobias Lindell (Europe, H.E.A.T.)

The band states: “We have taken 5 years to create this album, and it is something of which we are incredibly proud. We hope and believe that the thousands of people who enjoyed Global Warning will find plenty to enjoy in this new release. We are also very proud to announce our new line-up. Although we have lost some great guys along the way, namely Jeff Ogden, Julian Nicholas (although he is still featured on one track on the new album) and Benji Reid, we are extremely lucky to have replaced them with a couple of outstanding new members.”

On lead vocals Burn welcome none other than Steve Newman.

“Steve is well known in the rock community through his numerous solo albums and other projects. He has built up a loyal and devoted following over many years and the consistent quality of his output was something that encouraged us to approach him. Steve was our first choice to lead the new line up, as we view him as possessing one of the very best voices in rock. Burn is the first band that Steve has committed himself to for many years. We are honoured to have him on board and fronting the band.”

The other new member is the ridiculously talented Chris Green who brings his incendiary lead guitar skills to the band.

“Chris is a current member of Tyketto and hard rock fans will remember him from Furyon, Rubicon Cross and Pride, along with various other projects. We really couldn't think of another guitarist who could have done a better job on the new material than Chris. His sense of melody and feel combined with tremendous technique have produced some awe-inspiring solos on this album.”

Burn’s history started in the heyday of melodic rock in the 1980’s, and from that foundation, through Global Warning and now Ice Age, the band has developed into a modern hard rock act. With a multitude of influences and an open-minded view on song writing they push the boundaries of the genre while still retaining the core elements of power and melody.

In closing the band would like to add; “So, here we go. This is a new era for Burn and we are really looking forward to sharing our new stuff with everyone.”

Ice Age will get an initial release in Japan and Asia via Marquee/Avalon November 22 and worldwide via MRR on CD and all digital platforms February 28; with pre-sales in January (which will include an advance audio preview of the album for those that pre-order).

"This tour is the result of the overwhelming requests we've received from a loyal audience of diehard Dregheads, and new fans who have never seen us perform live, but discovered the band for the first time through Steve's membership in Deep Purple, or Rod as the drummer for Winger," said Dreg's bassist, Andy West. "We can't wait to playfor them all," adds West.

For guitar aficionados, Steve Morse needs no introduction, and his place in the pantheon of guitar greats is certain. But in fact, his career started with the DIXIE DREGS. The band traces its true beginnings to the band Dixie Grit, which started in a Georgia high school with Steve on guitar and Andy West on bass. Dixie Grit morphed into the DIXIE DREGS at the University of Miami School of Music, where Allen Sloan (violin) and Rod Morgenstein (drums) joined up with Steve and Andy, who were the "dregs" of Dixie Grit.

The members of the DIXIE DREGS remained committed to attending the University of Miami School of Music, which hosted a lively and talented musical community during their tenure, including future greats Pat Metheny, Jaco Pastorius, T Lavitz, and Bruce Hornsby, among manyothers. In 1975, the group's demo album, The Great Spectacular, was recorded at the University of Miami and then re-released on CD in 1997.

After graduation, the band moved back to Augusta where Steve Davidowski (keyboards) completed the band. The band paid its dues and honed its skills playing in bars and venues throughout the South in the mid-70's. They established themselves in the firmament of American instrumental music, seamlessly fusing rock with progressive and jazz elements to create a uniquely instrumental-driven style that has stood the test of time.

Based on a short demo and a tip from former Allman Brothers keyboardist Chuck Leavell along with legendary Allman/Dregs tour manager Twiggs Lyndon, Capricorn Records signed the DIXIE DREGS to record Free Fall (1977). The success and critical acclaim of Free Fall announced the DIXIE DREGS to the world, and after its release, they would become a cult-favorite band that would have a lasting influence on much of modern rock.
