THE DEFIANTS Debut Stands Tall on April 15

Frontiers Music Srl is excited to announce the release of THE DEFIANTS self-titled debut album on April 15, 2016.

The Defiants is a new band put together by Paul Laine, Bruno Ravel and Rob Marcello. Three fabulous musicians, all with ties to the great hard rock band Danger Danger.

Best known for being Danger Danger's frontman for a 12 year stint from 1992-2004, which included 4 studio albums, Paul Laine is now coming back to work with his former bandmates Bruno Ravel and Rob Marcello, who are the other two pillars of THE DEFIANTS.

The guys got back together under suggestion of Frontiers' President, Serafino Perugino, who really wanted to offer the fans a chance to hear some new music from these guys. The resulting album is an extremely exciting affair which is going to please not only D2 fans, but also all the ones who are into the classic sound from the glory days of rock in the '80s and '90s.

Paul Laine says 'From the moment Bruno and I started writing together,we knew we had something special. It's been my experience that when the writing process is effortless, you've trapped lightning in a bottle'within the first 2 1/2 months, we had close to 40 ideas up on the board. I think it surprised both of us how intuitive we were of each others ideas. I'm very proud of this record, and it feels good to let loose on an album of complete stadium rockers. Rob Marcello, I consider to be one of the biggest talents in the world of modern guitar players. I love how much he shines on this record, and from track to track, I couldn't wait to hear what he had to say musically. On a personal note, it feels good to hit another musical and writing milestone with this album. It was very hard to choose the material for this record, and its exciting to know that there are still bullets left in the chamber that nobody has heard yet...'

Bruno Ravel adds 'I'm so stoked for you all to hear this record! It was so much fun to create, and that feeling will be very evident once you give it a listen. Paul and Rob poured every bit of themselves into these tracks, and their performances were just ridiculous! Add that to the aggressive killer drum pounding that only my good buddy, Van Romaine could deliver, and you have what equals a bonafide rock 'n' roll roller coaster! Strap yourselves in folks! And get ready for the ride!'

THE DEFIANTS is a glorious return to the 'in your face' melodic hard rock that won millions of fans back in the '80s and '90s and is currently enjoying a well deserved revival in the 21st century.

THE DEFIANTS are set to appear live at the Frontiers Rock Festival in Trezzo (Milano), Italy on April 24, 2016, where the band will perform classic tracks from Paul Laine's solo career, some Danger Danger hits (of course) and songs off The Defiants debut!

The hyperbole has been high and I must admit, on paper the idea of Vinny Appice and Jimmy Bain (RIP) joining Vivian Campbell in a Dio-inspired new material project was very tantalizing.
I mean, who wouldn’t be excited at the prospect of Vivian returning to his roots and really getting a chance to shred again?

But try as I may, I have not been able to get into this album. I’ll take some heat for that, but it’s all about personal taste and my opinion is that this album hasn’t worked in a couple of areas.
First – Andrew Freeman. Monster voice and commanding frontman, but I just don’t take to his vocal style on this album. Too much shouting, it’s just not gelling with me.
That’s not so say it’s not an impressive performances, but I just can’t warm to it.
Second – pacing. As is the case with a lot of Dio material, the overall tempo favors a slow, methodical pace with occasional forays into something more uptempo.
But in most cases, I really struggle with albums that plod along.

The album opens mid-pace with the impressive rocker Devil In Me and immediately launches into the fastest track of the album with Martyr. That’s my kind of pace.
Starmaker is haunting and has potential, but I struggle with the vocals and the ultra-slow pace, which continue into Burn This House Down.

I Am Revolution hits the fastest mark of the entire album with a flurry of guitars and a rapid beat. This is what I was hoping to hear more of, cool track.
But then Blame It On Me heads straight back to ultra-slow plodding heavy metal. Already Dead tries to break out of that pace but doesn’t manage it for long.
Curse The Day has an interesting moody and somewhat melodic hook, but still remains relatively slow moving.

The next two tracks pick up the pace a little, but not enough.
The Sickness is a slow metal ballad or sorts. Some cool riffing, but not enough to save the second half of the album.

Jeff Pilson handles production responsibilities with his usual professional aplomb, and fans waiting to hear Vivian Campbell shred again are rewarded with some fine performances here.
I know there will be a great many that love this record and it isn’t without merit. It’s just one of those records that despite the obvious quality, hasn’t made a lasting impression to these ears.

This British band are hailed as the heirs to the classic rock throne, as currently held by the likes of Deep Purple, Whitesnake and Rainbow.
Fronted by one of the biggest voices in rock today, Nathan James dominates this recoding with some truly remarkable vocal acrobatics. From a deep booming baritone to high pitch wailing and everything in between, he is all over this material like few others I can recall in recent times.

The style of James can be something that requires adjusting to – when you have such a unique voice, there will be some that don’t connect – but then he so suits the material here it doesn’t take long to warm up to him. Think Richie Kotzen meets David Coverdale.

But he isn’t the lone star here – the performances within this album from the band are quite special. There’s a certain organic energy that radiates from this record, yet at the same time, the production seems quite polished.
The twin guitar attack is relentless and the rhythm section delivers the thunder to the lightning of James’ dominant vocals.

I love the production on this album. It’s sharp, it’s crisp, but it is also warm and inviting. A lot of time and went into this record and it shows.
What I struggled with to start with was the pacing of the album (yes, the tempo strikes again) and that issue remains as the only hesitation here.
While this album has a penchant for slower songs, most of them work. I’d prefer a couple more ‘up’ tunes, but the quality of the performances and the songs themselves make up for this and dare I say that those that have an ear for the slow and moody will absolutely love what’s on offer here.

After a build-up that would rival Rainbow and Deep Purple for mood and anticipation, Until I Die storms to life. It’s a mid-tempo hard hitting rocker with a terrific Zeppelinesque groove.
Breakaway is a storming fast paced Rainbow/Purple style rocker with organ and screaming vocals – everything you could ask for.
High Flying Gypsy turns the tempo back a notch, but is driven by a big riff and some nice soloing. The vocals wail of course.
Holy Water is utterly brilliant. The slow tempo suits the mood and all I can hear is classic Deep Purple or Coverdale here. It’s just immense. James electrifies with a really soulful vocal. It’s very Richie Kotzen and sounds like it could come from any of his solo albums. It’s a classic 70s swagger-n-blues tune. Very cool and the chorus is simple, but high impact.

Warning takes a while to kick into high gear, but once rolling, delivers a wailing tempo boost when needed. The twin guitar attack delivers riffs in both ears while the production is just perfect and James’ vocals are brilliant.
Bleed For You is the third slowish tune in a row, which would normally test my patience, but its simply too good a song to worry. It’s a heavy ballad of sorts, the vocals are once again quite extraordinary.
Girl Got A Gun is the same slow pace again, perhaps this is one slow track too many, but the chorus comes to life and it’s still a very good song.
You're Mine stays within the album’s overall mid-pace tempo. This is a bit of Zeppelinesque number. It’s a decent hard rocker with more Kotzen familiarities with the vocals and some touches of Coverdale too.

Inglorious is a heavy, slow rocker with another Zeppelin influenced 70s riff and some variety within the song, but overall it’s slow once again and the album could really use a lift in tempo.
Wake isn’t it. The song is an acoustic ballad with a lot of class though, a really big soulful vocal again from James.
Unaware is a heavy but melodic heavy groove that is for me probably missing a stronger chorus.

The first half of the album is flawless as far as I can see and the second half still sounds amazing, but suffers from lack of pace and a couple of songs that match the outstanding quality within the first half.
It all comes down to the tempo – only 1 or 2 really fired up, fast paced tracks. More would have been preferred, but at least the songs are consistently good.

The album pays homage to the artists mentioned as influences and Nathan James is a monster vocalist with a strong Richie Kotzen / David Coverdale vibe. The rest of the band are no slouches either – dynamic performances all-round and a very convincing debut.

Frontiers Signs WITHEM For Release of Sophomore Album, 'The Unforgiving Road'

Frontiers Music Srl is pleased to announce the signing of Norwegian progressive metal band WITHEM for the release of the band's sophomore album, 'The Unforgiving Road'.

Inspired by the likes of Symphony X, Pagan's Mind, Dream Theater, and Circus Maximus among others, Withem started in 2011 when 'yvind Voldmo Larsen (guitars) and Ketil Ronold (keyboards) met the gifted drummer Frank Nordeng R'e. Soon they were joined by the voice talent Ole Aleksander Wagenius. While on the debut album bass duties were taken care of by the special guest Andreas Blomqvist from Seventh Wonder, now the band has Portugal-born Miguel Pereira fully integrated as the bassist in their lineup.

Withem's music incorporates elements of progressive metal, symphonic metal and straightforward heavy metal. Creative virtuoso musicians, together with the unique vocal abilities of Ole Aleksander Wagenius, give the band a much-needed distinctive touch to stand out in the progressive metal scene.

The band states: 'We were overwhelmed with the reviews and reactions we received worldwide on our first album, and we couldn't wait for the next Withem chapter to take place. We pretty much set a goal for a follow-up soon after ProgPower USA 2014. Soon after we started the writing process, and entered the studio in January 2015 to pursue that 'difficult second album'. We are extremely happy that we could join forces with Frontiers Music Srl and "The Unforgiving Road" will hopefully leave our listeners with a smile on their faces. We tried to stick to our guns when it comes to keeping a strong melodic approach to each song, while taking advantage of the unique abilities of every instrument. Overall we feel that the sound and production has evolved into an even more mature and modern landscape and we can't wait to share The Unforgiving Road with our friends and fans!'

More details including release date and shows will be revealed in the weeks ahead. In the meantime, check out some older tracks from the band:

REACH are:

Alex Waghorn ' Vocals

REACH was put together in 2012 by drummer Marcus Johansson and guitarist Ludvig Turner. Together they started looking for band members to complete the group, and found the remaining band members in bass player David Jones and vocalist Alex Waghorn. Among the first thing REACH did to reveal this new rock band was to arrange a hard rock cover of Avicii's super hit 'Wake me up': http://youtu.be/g94yK3JFVd8 in August 2013. A huge success and about one year later the video has over 1.000.000 views AND still counting.

REACH's music can be described as classic rock with strong melodies and hooks, complemented by their youth energy. You can hear influences from Whitesnake, Scorpions, Europe and Gary Moore in the songs. Ludvig also put the melodic rock on the map in Swedish television in 2014 by making his own interpretations of major hits and being among the final four in the Swedish Idol contest.

The band released early 2014 a single 'Black Lady' to show their song writing abilities and proved not being just a cover band. In December 2014 having secured a deal with Sun Hill Production they released a first single 'You Called My Name' from their album 'Reach Out To Rock', which was released on March 4, 2015 via Sun Hill Production/Cargo Records.

Reach have been playing over 30 shows last year, supporting Gus G, Eclipse on their European tour, visting UK. This release is acoustic version for the track Tell Me and that they included the Avicii song Wake Me up for this release on all digital platforms, that its previously only been released as youtube video, getting close to ver 2 million views.

KEE MARCELLO Signs To Frontiers

Artist:

Frontiers Music Srl is excited to announce the signing of KEE MARCELLO for the release of a new album in the fall of 2016!

Kee Marcello is best known for his time as the guitar player in the band EUROPE from 1986 to 1992 on such milestone albums as 'Out of this World' and 'Prisoners in Paradise'. With this new album, Kee intends to go back to the sound that helped him make his mark. Expect some amazing arena rock songs, which he he started working on at the end of 2015.

Kee says: 'I'm really excited about this album. I'm making a new departure from the 'Le Baron Boys' era, bringing it into the future. I've always felt that there was something magic about the material that Sony mysteriously refused to release on PIP, and now the time has come to put things right. It's time to complete my 'unfinished symphony'. This is the album that Europe never managed to record after Prisoners In Paradise. The songs will have a very familiar ring for everyone who loves that era. And as a homage to all the faithful fans I've recorded two previously unreleased Le Baron Boys tracks on the album. With one foot in the past and one in the present I think this album will raise a lot of eyebrows - not to mention HORNS!'.

Kee is making plans for a full European tour in support of the new release. Stay tuned for more details!

Judas Priest's tour in support of their 17th studio album overall, Redeemer of Souls, was one of the most extensive of the group's entire career - consisting of 130 shows in 33 countries, and offering a setlist that touched upon selections from nearly all of their classic albums. And now, fans can relive the live Priest experience once more, with the release of the new CD/DVD/Blu-ray, Battle Cry, on March 25th, 2016, via Epic Records (preview available for viewing here http://smarturl.it/JudasPriestDVD

The DVD and Blu-ray also contains 3 bonus tracks shot in Poland on December 10th, 2015 at The Ergo Arena, Gdansk, Poland.

What makes the show's track listing so appealing is it balances new classics ("Dragonaut," "Halls of Valhalla," "Redeemer of Souls") along with headbanging classics ("Metal Gods," "Electric Eye," "You've Got Another Thing Coming"), as well as key album tracks from yesteryear ("Devil's Child," "Beyond the Realms of Death," "Jawbreaker").

Originally formed during the early '70s in Birmingham, England, Priest is responsible for offering metal fans worldwide some of the genre's most influential and landmark albums (1980's 'British Steel,' 1982's 'Screaming for Vengeance,' 1990's 'Painkiller,' etc.), while helping spread metal music to audiences not normally associated with the genre (Live Aid in 1985, and a surprise appearance on American Idol in 2011), and helping popularize the now instantly recognizable "denim and leather" look.

For decades, Judas Priest has been one of the greatest live bands in the entire heavy metal genre. And as evidenced by Battle Cry, Priest rock harder and more ferociously than ever.

FIERCE HEART Self Titled Album Reissued

Artist:
Categories:
News Feed

It’s hard to believe but three decades on from its release, Fierce Heart’s debut self-titled release is often hailed as classic of the hard rock genre that unfortunately never found its deserved wider audience.

Full to the brim with its jaw crushing guitar sound – a sound made famous by successful acts of the day Dokken and Ratt, Fierce Heart basically consisted of singer Larry Elkins with guitarist Rex Carroll – their ace in the pack who could shred on par with all his peers of the mid to late 80s.

Hailing from Chicago, Fierce Heart was a melodic rock project put together by Mirage Records’ Jim Delehart and band manager John Doumanian. The latter had discovered Elkins in Nashville and, having heard of Carroll’s guitar prowess, elected to introduce the musicians which in turn lead to an album being recorded. The album, simply called “Fierce Heart”, utilised engineer Chris Lord-Alge in a percussive capacity. To promote the album the band performed a series of shows though sadly they were to miss out on the chance to support Deep Purple due to management / label politics, denying them the opportunity to truly showcase their potential.

After the inevitable breakup Rex would go on to find success with Christian rockers Whitecross whilst Larry pursued a succession of diverse musical projects.

The self-titled album itself has over the years been a victim of various bootleggers and has appeared on CD is various formats – none of which have been official or authorised. Until now that is with AOR BLVD Records’ A&R man supreme finally securing a legitimate release after a chance meeting with Rex. The guitarist himself felt that the original artwork used was out of sync with the music and style of Fierce Heart and in no way did them justice. As a result, and with Rex’s approval, the label has commissioned new artwork it feels is more fitting. Furthermore, AOR BLVD Records have ensured this cd has been remastered to the highest quality including as a bonus the original interview conducted for “Metal Forces” magazine providing details on the bands history and how it was formed as well as three exclusive demos featuring ex Grave Danger singer Bob Reynolds as well as detailed liner notes from Rex himself.

In Newcastle, during a radio interview Bonnet states,” I started in 1968 that is my age now 68. It’s been a long trip, to see musical styles change, I’ve been through every kind of era and picked up a little bit of every era and added to my music now.”

Bonnet also tells the tale of when he got fired from The Michael Schenker Group after one show for exposing his penis on stage, in Sheffield U.K. in 1982, “my penis came out of my pants, I encouraged it, it was bit like getting a turtle out of a shell  and I swung it.”
The lineup and camera crew includes Graham Bonnet,  guitarist extraordinaire Conrado Pesinato, bassist Beth-Ami Heavenstone and former FATES WARNING, WARLORD drummer Mark Zonder, and Manager Giles Lavery

GRAHAM BONNET BAND
's new album, which will be made available later in the year via Frontiers Music Srl, will also include a bonus disc of brand new recordings of classic songs from the Graham Bonnet repertoire.

CAPTAIN BLACK BEARD Sign To Perris For 'It's A Mouthful'

Friday, March 25, 2016

Perris Records is proud to announce the signing of CAPTAIN BLACK BEARD from Stockholm Sweden. The CD release date worldwide is March 25th.

The band had this to say: "We are very proud to sign with Perris Records! The label is already the home of many great acts such as Helix and Laney's Legion. Perris knows our genre well so we will be a perfect match. The new album "It's A Mouthful" is a step forward in every way. From Chips Kiesbye producing to the songwriting reaching a higher level. We think we've made a great album and can't wait for people to enjoy it.
We hope that everyone watches the video to "Divided Feelings". Once again we worked with 11 Frames and made a tribute to the 80's slasher flix and the zombie genre in general. It was a lot of fun to make and even more fun to watch."

The video and tour dates will be released soon! One gig that's already confirmed is the band's appearance at Hard Rock Hell AOR in Wales on March 10th.

JULY REIGN Debut 'Here Comes The Flood' March 23 on MRR

Artist:
Wednesday, March 23, 2016
Categories:
News Feed

March 23 is the date for yet another classy debut album from MelodicRock Records. This time it’s time to get your metal on with JULY REIGN.

JULY REIGN is an international recording project featuring Sheldon Scrivner of Missoula, Montana, USA, Carsten 'Lizard' Schulz (Domain, Evidence One, Dead End Heroes) of Baden-Württemberg, Germany, and Mark Duran of Denver, Colorado.

For those that have MRCD13, you will have heard the band featured on Disc 3 with the song Inferno. Hear that below if you are new to the band.

Making its worldwide debut today is the track Rage Of Pain. Check it out!

After hearing Evidence One on Pandora, Sheldon contacted Carsten and asked him if he would be interested in collaborating on some recordings and sent him a few music samples. Carsten quickly responded and said he indeed would be interested, and the seeds of July Reign were planted.

A few songs evolved into a whole album. Sheldon and Mark's friendship and musical relationship go way back in time to the big-hair metal days of the late 80s in Phoenix, Arizona.

Sheldon is influenced by the melodic emotion of David Gilmore, the energy of Joe Satriani, the fretboard acrobatics of guitar greats like Tony MacAlpine, Paul Gilbert, Vinnie Moore, and many others. He has forged his own style of coaxing fire and passion out of six strings. Inspired early on by the hard rock guitarists of the 70s, weaned on the guitar frenzy heydays of the 80s, and energized by today's modern generation of shredders, Sheldon's playing has never been better.

Having played over the years in various bands and recording projects from the Bay Area in California to Phoenix, Arizona, Sheldon moved to Montana in '99.

JULY REIGN is:
Sheldon Scrivner: Guitars & Keys
Carsten 'Lizard' Schulz: Vocals
Mark Duran: Drums

JULY REIGN’s debut album Here Comes The Flood will be released worldwide by MelodicRock Records on March 23.

Pre-orders available shortly.

THUNDER's DANNY BOWES joins Mitch on episode 195 of One On One With Mitch Lafon

In the episode's only interview, vocalist DANNY BOWES discusses THUNDER latest release All You Can Eat, last year's Wonder Days, the business of Thunder, why North America has been so hard to 'conquer', his relationship with Luke Morley, getting a record label after years of being independent, the Farewell not actually Farewell tour, and much more.

Quotes from the DANNY BOWES interview:

On the initial reaction to record company's request to record All You Can Eat: "The band wasn't overly impressed with the idea of having finished an album and going straight back in to the studio to re-record it live, but we, in the end, thoroughly enjoyed it."

The future of the band: "Providing we stay happy and healthy, we'd love to release another record in 2017. We have momentum and an international presence which is growing. The ripples of love for the Wonder Days album are still coming home to us now."

Luke Morley: "He's a constant. He's always been there. We are inextricably linked, always have been and always will be. There is no way around that."

North America: "The video for Dirty Love that went number one Dial MTV for six weeks. We sold a quarter of a million albums in America and hadn't even set foot there. We were thinking, 'wow, this is it.' The problem was a man named Kurt Cobain had other ideas. Overnight, the record company changed from being interested in bands like us to being interested in bands like Nirvana."

"We had a tour booked with David Lee Roth and Cinderella in the summer of '91. It was three months in huge sheds. We'd shipped all our equipment, our bicycles, and absolutely everything out there to start this tour. We were so excited and with about five days to go, our American manager rang up and told us to unpack. He said, 'the tour is not selling. It's not about this kind of music anymore. You guys are going to get the reputation for being the house band on the Titanic."
