OZZY OSBOURNE In The Studio: Black Sabbath's Beginning To The End

Artist:

Podcasts & Radio

Dallas, TX - January 21, 2016.  North American syndicated Rock radio show and website InTheStudio: The Stories Behind History's Greatest Rock Bands  fires up the blast furnace with a fascinating interview with co-founder, singer/lyricist Ozzy Osbourne, for the 45th anniversary of Black Sabbath's heavy metal genre-defining second album, Paranoid.

The world into which the Birmingham England band Black Sabbath quickly rose to popularity in late 1970 felt increasingly like a dangerous place. Political assassinations, bombings, race riots, the Kent State College campus slaughter, and the decade-long Viet Nam war all brought Sabbath's dark haunting world vision and bludgeoning hard rock into focus.

But the beginning of Sabbath was something quite different. Ozzy Osbourne shares with InTheStudio host Redbeard the fond memories  of those days when he and his mates from the working-class neighborhood of Aston decided to ditch their trendy blues music, cut the band down from a 6-piece to a four, and started doing what Ozzy characterizes as 'spooky music'.

'I took the album home. My mum and pops have got one of these great big radiograms... I put the record on, and my father turned around to me and said, 'Son, I'm going to ask you a question and you've got to be honest to me.'  I said yeah. 'Are you sure you're just drinking alcohol?'  I said yeah, why, what's the matter? He said, ' This is very odd music. This is not music. This is weird.' '   - Ozzy Osbourne

OPERATION: MINDCRIME Announce US Tour Dates

GEOFF TATE'S OPERATION: MINDCRIME TO EMBARK
ON EXTENSIVE U.S. TOUR BEGINNING IN FEBRUARY

UPCOMING CONCERT PERFORMANCES TO FEATURE MAJOR HITS AND
FAN FAVORITES SPANNING GEOFF TATE'S ILLUSTRIOUS CAREER AS THE
ORIGINAL FRONT MAN OF QUEENSRYCHE, ALONG WITH NEW SONGS
FROM OPERATION: MINDCRIME'S RECENTLY RELEASED DEBUT ALBUM, "THE KEY"

On February 3, Geoff Tate and his new band, Operation: Mindcrime, will be hitting the road for over thirty dates on what will mark the band's first major U.S tour of the year (see full tour itinerary below). This comes hot on the heels of their extensive European tour in November and December that took them to such countries as Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Netherlands, Poland, Slovakia, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. The trek was the band's first in support of its debut album, The Key, which came out on Frontiers Music Srl in September 2015.

For the forthcoming U.S. tour, Geoff Tate will be joined by several of the stellar musicians and bandmates who performed on Operation: Mindcrime's The Key, including guitarists Kelly Gray (Queensryche) and Scott Moughton (Geoff Tate), drummers Simon Wright (AC/DC) and Scott Mercado (Candlebox) and keyboardist Randy Gane (Myth).

Perhaps one of Geoff Tate's most ambitious recordings to date, The Key examines what one might do if they discovered "the key" to changing the way we view the world, the way we look at time, the way we travel and could essentially change the human condition... for better or for worse.

The Key is the debut album under Tate's new Operation: Mindcrime banner, a creative platform that continues in the spirit of the historic album of the same name, spawning concepts as grand as the music, and intertwining the intensity of the former Queensryche vocalist's iconic past with the provocative, progressive mindset that has made him one of music's most resolute forces and frontmen.
What can fans expect on this tour? The unexpected.

According to Tate, "I plan to play songs from Empire, Operation: Mindcrime 1 and 2, Rage for Order and my new album, The Key, along with favorites from all the other albums I recorded under the name Queensryche," adding, "My band's name may have changed but the songs remain the same."

Tate has sold more than 25 million records at the helm of Queensryche, the band he fronted for 30 years from their inception through 2012, earning three Grammy nominations, five MTV Music Video Award nominations, and one MTV Music Video Award along the way.
The landmark concept album Operation: Mindcrime thrust Tate's unique social consciousness, style and expertly crafted lyrics into the national spotlight in 1988, and was followed by Empire in 1990, the album that delivered Queensryche to arena-headlining status and sold more than three million albums on the back of hit singles and radio staples "Silent Lucidity" and "Jet City Woman."

By the time the band released Promised Land in 1994, Geoff Tate was universally acknowledged as one of the greatest frontmen in rock and metal, and a driving force behind one of the most innovative bands in mainstream music.
From Mindcrime and Promised Land through 2009's overlooked gem American Soldier - Tate's ambitious concept album that explores the consequences of war as told through the voices of veterans - Tate's 13-album tenure with Queensryche was marked by exploration, intrigue, bold risks and gratifying results.

The Key continues in that fine tradition.
Come February, Operation: Mindcrime will be bringing fans just what the doctor ordered with the usual surgical precision.
Call it "a musical journey to the center of your brain."
Let the "Operation" begin.

Operation: Mindcrime will wrap up the initial leg of their tour in Geoff Tate's hometown of Seattle, Washington with a performance at The Neptune on March 18.

RESURRECTION KINGS - Resurrection Kings (Track By Track)

Release Year:
2015
Friday, January 29, 2016

Frontiers Music Srl is pleased to announce the release of the highly anticipated self-titled debut album from RESURRECTION KINGS on January 29.

Alessandro Del Vecchio continues to grow in stature as a producer. This album has a big hard rock sound that differs somewhat from his Revolution Saints production.

Front and centre of this band is vocalist Chas West – his tone is unbelievable and it’s a pleasure to hear Craig Goldy shredding and riffing in such fine company as Sean McNabb and Vinny Appice.

The album is out January 29 via Frontiers. Review next week, but here’s what to expect track by track:

01. Distant Prayer is a heavy, somewhat bombastic opener with a surprisingly commercial chorus and hook. I love the pace of the track, really gets the album off to a flyer.

02. Livin' Out Loud is much slower and finds itself in that heavy, slow groove that metal often uses. Thankfully there’s a strong chorus in play and the song fits quite well between two faster tracks.

03. Wash Away is pure commercial hard rock. A free flowing vibe and a big chorus and melodic verse. Very catchy.

04. Who Do You Run To is another pretty commercial track, with a mid-tempo beat, not a ballad but not quite a rocker either. But solid.

05. Fallin' For You is a moody mid-tempo tune that definitely reminds me of David Reece’s solo material. Big, moody, loud, but catchy.

06. Never Say Goodbye is as it suggests – a big commercial rock ballad. West soars, the chorus goes with him and AOR fans will love.

07. Path Of Love is the kind of track I don’t normally like – slow, bluesy, big groove. It has musical integrity and some fine chops on display, but these types of song rarely have a great chorus. This one ain’t bad though.

08. Had Enough moves a little faster but still holds a little in reserve. An ok chorus and some nice soloing feature.

09. Don't Have To Fight No More moves faster still and has a stronger chorus too. A good track to position here in the album’s sequence.

10. Silent Wonder has again, a less memorable chorus, but a good pace and some melodies that grow over time.

11. What You Take is similar to the last several tracks, featuring a strong sound, ok chorus and plenty of guitar flurries. Not an instant like, but another grower.

RICK SPRINGFIELD Previews 'Let Me In' from 'Rocket Science'

From Billboard.com, where you can also read more from Rick: http://www.billboard.com/articles/news/6844178/rick-springfield-let-me-i...

Rick Springfield Returns With New Song 'Let Me In' From Upcoming Album 'Rocket Science': Exclusive Song Premiere

Rick Springfield calls his upcoming disc,Rocket Science, "probably the most positive album I've ever written." And it's not just because he expects big sales or lots of attention for it.
"I was just wanting to change my attitude," Springfield tells Billboard. "Pissing and moaning about something and dooms-daying is not gonna help anything. I've always been a big one to do that, pissing and moaning. So I wanted to have some solutions for once rather than just moaning. I've been having a better mindset lately and focused on different things. I'm always fighting the depression -- that's taught for me -- but the way I deal with that mainly is just to write, and feeling that I'm doing something creative really helps my mood."
That said, "Let Me In" -- the first song Springfield wrote for Rocket Science, which comes out Feb. 19 -- was drawn from darker circumstances in his life. "I was having issues with my primary relationship, and it came out of that," explains Springfield, who's been married to wife Barbara since 1984. "The best songs come from a moment of truth for me, and that was an issue I was having a really tough time with, so it came from that. I'm very guilty of creating conflict to get the emotions stirred up and be able to write. There's deeper stuff in conflict; That's the only time you stop and think is when things aren't going well. When things are going well you're kind of full steam ahead, and I don't really write much when I'm happy."
Billboard is exclusively premiering "Let Me In" below, as well as Springfield performing an acoustic version of the track and a behind-the-scenes video about the song.

Finland's own merry metallers, Reckless Love are carrying the torch of fun loving melodic hard rock and boy oh boy, they are doing it right. The band has been churning out insanely catchy anthems of wild parties, crazy nights and of course, girls girls girls for a better half of the decade now. There is simply no stopping this four piece.
Since day one, this brilliant quartet has been known for their shameless, colourful and high energy live performances which they have taken all over the world. Relentless touring in their home territory Finland, and also in the United Kingdom has helped them reach a steady following in both countries. In fact, the British fans showed their love in 2013 by raising their previous album "Spirit" on 11th place on the british rock charts. In Finland, their fans went a little further and made Reckless Love a gold selling artist.

March 11th marks the day Reckless Love will release their fourth studio album titled "InVader”.
Pepe Reckless, the bands guitarist, describes the album as their boldest and most versatile so far. He also adds that this time the results didn't come easy and it really meant shedding some blood, sweat and beers.

The band says: "We took a break from extensive touring in order to focus all our time and energy in songwriting. We wanted to stretch our musical muscles and genre limits more than ever before and experimented outside the box of our comfort zone. This way we wrote the greatest batch of songs we’ve ever written. In the end we came back to the core of our joyous brand of rock n roll and the results are fresh and original."
Reckless Love truly has an extraordinary talent for intertwining completely different musical worlds together as one intriguing fresh sound. A perfect example of this can be heard in their latest single "Monster". An ode to modern kind of female figure, in all its glory and gory.

Reckless Love will start their 2016 European/UK tour on 3rd of March from Bristol UK, with their fellow Finns Santa Cruz as their opening act, finishing off at Moscow Russia on 4th of April.

Quotes from the interview:

Twisted Sister: "We are a little bit at odds on certain subjects. We're friends and we love each other, but we definitely have our places where there's a rub. One of them is the original Twisted Sister vs. the band that everybody knows which is talked about in the documentary."

"I never planned on being here this long. I planned on being well retired by 35. As it turns out, I lost everything and started over from scratch, but my intentions were never to be doing 'this' forever."

Lemmy: "My wife said, 'I think Lemmy may have been an angel on earth."

On his new album 'NOW' (coming later this year): "I like something new. I like something contemporary. This is going to be the new sound. No more head banging. No more throwing my body on the ground. It'll still be an intense rocking performance, but it's going to be more mainstream. I've been challenged to transform myself."

R.I.P List Grows As More Icons Pass Away

Categories:
News Feed

The sad news just keeps coming unfortunately. Another music icon passes today in GLENN FREY of THE EAGLES. But he wasn't alone. MOTT THE HOOPLE drummer DALE GRIFFIN has also died.

GLENN FREY:

Glenn Frey, a founding member and guitarist of the Eagles, one of the most popular and commercially successful artists of the 1970s, has died. The band confirmed the news on Monday (Jan. 18) with a statement on its website.
"Glenn fought a courageous battle for the past several weeks but, sadly, succumbed to complications from Rheumatoid Arthritis, Acute Ulcerative Colitis and Pneumonia," read the statement. "Words can neither describe our sorrow, nor our love and respect for all that he has given to us, his family, the music community & millions of fans worldwide."
Frey had been battling intestinal issues that caused the band to postpone its Kennedy Center Honors. A statement from the band said then the recurring problem would require "major surgery and a lengthy recovery period."
Eagles drummer and vocalist Don Henley issued the following statement:
"He was like a brother to me; we were family, and like most families, there was some dysfunction. But, the bond we forged 45 years ago was never broken, even during the 14 years that the Eagles were dissolved. We were two young men who made the pilgrimage to Los Angeles with the same dream: to make our mark in the music industry -- and with perseverance, a deep love of music, our alliance with other great musicians and our manager, Irving Azoff, we built something that has lasted longer than anyone could have dreamed. But, Glenn was the one who started it all. He was the spark plug, the man with the plan. He had an encyclopedic knowledge of popular music and a work ethic that wouldn't quit. He was funny, bullheaded, mercurial, generous, deeply talented and driven. He loved is wife and kids more than anything. We are all in a state of shock, disbelief and profound sorrow. We brought our two-year 'History of the Eagles Tour' to a triumphant close at the end of July and now he is gone. I'm not sure I believe in fate, but I know that crossing paths with Glenn Lewis Frey in 1970 changed my life forever, and it eventually had an impact on the lives of millions of other people all over the planet. It will be very strange going forward in a world without him in it. But, I will be grateful, every day, that he was in my life. Rest in peace, my brother. You did what you set out to do, and then some."

DALE GRIFFIN:

Dale Griffin, drummer for rock group Mott The Hoople, has died aged 67.
He was a founder member of the group, best known for classic tracks Roll Away The Stone and All The Young Dudes.
The latter was written and produced by David Bowie, who sang backing vocals on the track.
The band, who made eight albums during their five-and-a-half year existence, reformed to mark their 40th anniversary in 2009 - but Griffin was too ill to take part.
He died peacefully in his sleep on Sunday night, said Peter Purnell from record label Angel Air records.
He called Griffin "one of the nicest, friendly and talented men I have ever known."
"All he ever wanted was for his beloved Mott The Hoople to reform and it was his determination that achieved that very feat in 2009 but sadly by then he was too ill to perform at the five sold-out dates - though he did join the band for encores."

FRONTIERS RECORDS Airs Frustrations Over Internet Leaks

Categories:
News Feed

EVERY single person in the music business is sick to absolute death of internet leaks and pirate blog sites offering free downloads of recently released titles from all artists. Even worse is that the owners of these blog sites are actively trying to one up each other by doing their best to be the first to feature new titles, including ones NOT EVEN RELEASED YET.

But how to they get hold of releases ahead of time? Sadly, some in the position to receive advance material are clearly enormous mega-pricks and don't give a rats ass about the artists or labels they are supposed to be promoting - and are leaking this material.

FRONTIERS RECORDS have now aired their concerns and announced changes to their advance promo policy for journalists.

Here's their statement:

I think very little in 2016 is more disappointing for a record label than seeing an album leak before it's official release date.

Let's admit it....nowadays the marketing strategies employed by most labels allows fans to download and stream a substantial amount of music prior to the release of a new album. Fans get multiple tracks when they pre-order an album digitally or can even go stream them on a service like Spotify or YouTube, without paying any money. So, truly, it is difficult to understand, even from a fan's perspective (and I am a music fan first and foremost), why there is such a need to try and find and download music illegally on piracy sites and blogs which has not yet been officially released.

Moreover, you need to keep in mind that these "pirates" are actually making money off of other's backs here. While you download for free, probably thinking you are smart because you are saving your own money, you are doing two harmful things. First: you are taking away the compensation due to the artist and the record label who have spent significant time and financial efforts to make that music available for you (but, probably you could care less about that). Second: you allow the very people that put the music out for free to make themselves REAL money by selling advertisements on their sites and blogs. Some of these "pirates" are so persistent with their uploading of illegal materials, that you have to assume that this must be their full time job, especially considering the amount of time that it is needed to rip and re-upload full albums on the web, when their own sites/blogs get shut down by the providers after takedown notices. And all this goes on when there are popular, easy to use, LEGAL streaming services like Spotify, Deezer, YouTube, etc. available that give everyone the easy convenience to stream music while paying very little or even nothing at all for the privilege.

I really would love if everyone could understand and agree that the promotional needs of a label are such that we can no longer constantly face the risk of having an album leaked prior to the release. Considering that systems such as watermarked MP3 downloads and watermarked CDs do not prevent these leaks from happening all the time, it is no surprise to see that many labels decide to postpone releasing priority releases to journalists until the day of the release. We will now be one of those labels as we feel we must take a serious and strong stand against these leaks. Further, we will not be allowing any more promotional downloads of our albums, regardless if it is watermarked or not. It is just not right, nor respectful to everyone's valuable time, hard work and efforts to keep going like this, so we have to ask for everyone's respect, cooperation and understanding here. Unfortunately, one bad apple spoils the whole bunch and now this is what happens.

It is 2016 and journalists - who use their "ink" all the time to push for progress and technology - surely can understand that the world is moving forward and abuses of technology to work against the creative process are something we can't facilitate.

Pardon the rant and keep on enjoying the music - BOYCOTT pirate sites and blogs!

After 4 successful events in the USA, Australian website and record label MelodicRock.com is bringing the popular MelodicRockFest event home.
MelodicRockFest Australia will make its local debut in Melbourne on May 13 and 14, 2016 at the Elephant & Wheelbarrow in St. Kilda.

International Headline acts Eclipse (Sweden); Paul Laine (Canada)(ex-Danger Danger) and Mitch Malloy (USA) will be joined by Australia’s brightest rock talent, including BB Steal, Black Majesty, Vanishing Point and newcomers Kaato.

For nearly 20 years now, MelodicRock.com has been covering the movements of the best melodic and hard rock acts from all over the world. From chart topping stadium fillers to independent studio projects, the site covers all the legends of the rock world, while placing a strong emphasis on new and upcoming artists plus the labels and people behind them.

MelodicRockFest takes that same attitude and brings it into a live setting. Mirroring the USA event's vision, MelodicRockFest Australia will exclusively showcase some of the best international melodic rock acts, some making their Australian debut, with support from some of the best local rock acts rounding out the line-up.

This is a festival demanded by the loyal local fans. It’s a one of a kind. It’s small, it’s intimate and it’s for those that recall the glory days of Adult Orientated Rock.

Appearing at MelodicRockFest is:

Saturday May 14 (Headline Day)

ECLIPSE (Sweden)
Eclipse are one of Sweden’s premiere melodic hard rock acts. They boast a strong following across all of Europe and are sought after session musicians when not touring. In 2015 the band released their critically acclaimed 5th studio album ‘Armageddonize’ and just recently were invited to participate in the Swedish heats for the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest.
This will be the band’s first trip down under and they plan on making the most of it by delivering a blistering set that won’t be soon forgotten.

ERIK GRONWALL (Sweden)(Special Guest)
Erik is the energetic frontman for one of Europe’s most in-demand rock bands, H.E.A.T. The band will be looking to hit Australia next tour, but for now, their popular frontman is making his own way down under to sample some local brews, hang out with fans and join Eclipse on stage for an extended encore that is sure to bring the house down!
Erik will also deliver an exclusive acoustic set for VIP ticket holders on the Friday afternoon.

PAUL LAINE (Canada)
Paul Laine has a career spanning over 25 years, starting off in the Vancouver rock scene, before signing with Elektra Records for his major label debut ‘Stick It In Your Ear’, an album produced by the legendary Bruce Fairbairn. In 1995 Paul joined American rock band Danger Danger as their new frontman for a 4 album run. His other projects include Shugaazer and Andersen Readman Laine, plus his currently touring country rock band Dark Horse.
Paul will perform a true best of set, featuring favourites from Danger Danger as well as all aspects of his career. This will be Paul’s second trip down under.

MITCH MALLOY (USA)
Mitch Malloy was already making waves in the late 80s but for AOR fans he burst onto the scene in 1992 with a debut album for RCA which immediately became a classic. Since then he’s recorded another 8 studio albums and toured worldwide. He continues to record and perform and is an in demand producer in Nashville.
This will be Mitch’s first trip to Australia and will see him deliver a high energy set featuring his hits and classic album cuts, backed by a powerhouse band.

BB STEAL (Adelaide)
BB Steal are legends of the Australian melodic rock scene. Their major label debut was produced by Def Leppard’s Phil Collen and the band has often been touted as the “new” Def Leppard due to their layered, anthemic sound.
This will be their first Melbourne show in many years and will also feature permanent member, vocalist Craig Csongrady and the return of original guitarist Kevin Pratt! Expect the band to deliver a set heavy with tracks from their cult debut album as well as a few from 2013’s comeback album ‘Resurrection’.

WHITE WIDDOW (Melbourne)
White Widdow are the torch bearers for the classic 80s keyboard driven AOR sound here in Australia. The band are regulars on the Melbourne rock circuit and will deliver a set featuring tracks from their first three albums and their soon to be recorded fourth studio opus.

THE RADIO SUN (Melbourne)
The Radio Sun are fast becoming Australia’s harmony kings, with two highly acclaimed albums now available, both filled with classic harmony driven AOR. The guys have also doubled as Paul Laine’s backing band for the last few years, appearing with him at events in USA as well as here in Australia. Expect a great set of song from the two albums and a few surprises too.

SERPENTINE SKY (Melbourne)
Releasing their debut album 20 years after originally forming, Serpentine Sky are looking to make up for lost time and will blow fans away with their energy and the highly addictive songs from their recently released debut.

TEARGAS (Melbourne)
Teargas are back together after a 10 year hiatus. Last seen acting as Jeff Scott Soto’s support act for his 2004 OZ tour, the Melbourne lads are ready to kick it back into high gear and will open the main day with the energy of a headliner.

Friday May 13:

KAATO (Sydney)
Just who is Kaato? You won’t forget them after this show. Get ready to hear the band’s debut album, which is currently being completed with producer and guitarist…..

VANISHING POINT (Melbourne)
Melbourne’s own melodic metal heroes are excited to take part in this event. Without doubt, the heaviest band of the festival, but for this occasion the guys are going to delve into their back catalogue for some more melodic numbers alongside their most epic tracks.

TONK (Canberra)
Tonk take the hard rock back to the glory days of the American Sunset Strip. They have a groove and an attitude Guns N Roses would be proud of. Another rarity to have the band playing in Melbourne.

PAUL LAINE (Acoustic Set)
A completely different set of solo and Danger Danger tracks to blow fans away.

BLACK MAJESTY (Exclusive Acoustic Set)
An Australian exclusive! The Black Majesty guys have never played an acoustic set in their home country, so expect them to deliver something very special.

THE RADIO SUN (Acoustic Set)
Kicking off the event is one of the hardest working bands this weekend. The band will be promoting their upcoming acoustic project.

NORDIC UNION - Nordic Union (Track By Track)

Artist:
Release Year:
2015
Thursday, January 29, 2015
Categories:
News Feed

With Erik Martensson at the helm, you know what you’re going to get. Big riffs, bigger melodies and the biggest production available. And with Ronnie Atkins, you get the raspy metal edge of Pretty Maids. Together you could anticipate what will follow and NORDIC UNION delivers all that and more.

Full review coming up, but taking a Track By Track look at what to expect:

01. The War Has Begun is a strong opener, starting slow and building intensity, featuring a good chorus and some great guitar work.

02. Hypocrisy has a typically Eclipse feel to it and stays within itself until the monster chorus bursts to life and builds the pace.

03. Wide Awake is nothing to do with the Eclipse tune, apart from a similar thumping beat and a very melodic vocal from Ronnie.

04. Every Heartbeat is another track with a strong Eclipse feel. The classy ballad builds from a moody intro to an intense full band second half.

05. When Death Is Calling is probably the stand out commercial hard rocker of the album and 9is an instant like. Crashing beat, great chorus and a monster sound.

06. 21 Guns is a close second – a terrific melodic, heavy chorus and another track that’s instantly likeable. Great lyrics too.

07. Falling is a breezy melodic rocker with a faster pace and a commercial feel. Definitely some Pretty Maids sounds here.

08. The Other Side rocks hard and fast. A simpler track than some others, but equally as enjoyable and a cool fired up rocker.

09. Point Of No Return rolls along at a good pace and has a new twist for followers of Erik’s work. A great chorus again, if not immediate, it’s a grower.

10. True Love Awaits You is another quality big rock ballad that features harmonies, layers and a lighters in the air vibe.

11. Go is simply a flat out rocker with a good hook and a big fat sound. Great energetic way to close the album.

Nordic Union is released via Frontiers on January 29.

Legion Music Festival in Australian Fan Funded Debut

World-first, fan funded heavy music festival offers support to local acts

Following the announcement of Legion Music Fest, the Australian music festival tackling a world-record crowd funding campaign, the organisers have announced an initiative that will give all local bands that fall under the ‘heavy music’ genre a chance to be involved.

Legion have partnered with GiggedIn, a company that champions crowd sourcing for the Australian music industry, in order to run a competition that affords each of the bands an even playing field.

Legion founder, John Sankey said that supporting local talent is something that is fundamental to the ethic that he has created for the festival.

“We made a commitment to support local bands and the local industry and we meant it,” he said.

Once each band submits they will be reviewed by a panel of industry experts, including Sankey himself along with record label executives, award winning producers, music media experts and the event’s organisers, to determine the finalists for each state.

The fans will then vote; with the top six bands from Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane, and the top band from Adelaide and Perth, being given the coveted spot on their home stage.

“We turn to the fans for all major decision making, so why should this be any different?” said Sankey.

Bands are asked to submit 1 song, 1 music video link, a short bio and a photo to go in the running.

Should they be successful, they will go on to play alongside 25+ other international and local bands, with the event organisers set to announce major headliners shortly.

Local artists can submit to: http://www.giggedin.com/legion-music-fest

LIONVILLE Move to Frontiers Records for New Album

Artist:
Release Year:
2016
Categories:

Frontiers Music Srl is pleased to announce the signing of LIONVILLE to a multi-album deal, with the first release scheduled to see the light of day in the second half of 2016.

LIONVILLE is musically akin to Toto, Richard Marx, Giant, Bad English, Survivor and Boulevard, with two acclaimed albums under their belt. The project was started by Stefano Lionetti, an Italian songwriter, singer and guitarist, together with his brother Alessandro. After a few years playing around his hometown, Stefano started LIONVILLE with the encouragement and help of fellow Italian musicians Pierpaolo 'Zorro' Monti and Alessandro Del Vecchio. Together they raised the interest of singer Lars Safsund of Work of Art, who gladly took on the core of the lead vocals for the project.

Now, LIONVILLE Official is ready to embark on this new venture with much enthusiasm. 'I'm definitely excited with this new deal, this is a dream coming true for me,' says Stefano Lionetti. 'I believe that today marks the beginning of a new wonderful artistic page for LIONVILLE and we'll start very soon to record the material that was written for the new album. I'd like to thank Frontiers' President and A&R director Serafino Perugino for strongly believing in LIONVILLE and for giving me the opportunity to work with the label of many of my heroes! Thank you all for listening to my music, I really hope that our amazing fans will be happy with the next LIONVILLE records. Have a great 2016!'

Lionetti will write most of the songs, and will produce the album taking care also of guitars, keyboards and some vocals, while the album will be mixed and mastered by Alessandro Del Vecchio (who will also handle some keyboards too) and will of course feature again Lars Safsund on the main lead vocals along with Michele Cusato (guitars), Giulio Dagnino (bass) and Martino Malacrida (drums).

JORN Preparing New Covers Record for 2016

Artist:

From JORN's Facebook page comes this album news update:

ALBUM IN THE WORKS -
Been recording some selected cover songs the last few months, and a new Jorn album is planned for an early 2016 release. I've recorded some of my favourite songs, and included a few that never had any obvious connection to the rock/metal scene, and hopefully it will give this album an unexpected twist. Naturally, I have also made sure to include a few great rock classics. The basic idea for this album was to choose some songs that meant something special to me when I was younger. That is why the variety of songs include everything from experimental pop of the 80's and 70's west coast music, to more classic heavier rock. I also wanted to go against the stream, as I'm tired of the political correctness that so many in the rock/metal world are concerned with.
This album is all about good songs and to record something enjoyable, making versions that are different, but at the same time a homage to the original artists. Music has many faces and expressions, and greatness lies within the song and it's performer, beyond style and category. Also, when you've been around for as long as I have now, it's liberating to go "off track" and try something different.
That said, my heart lies in rock music, but through the years I couldn't help thinking about how some great songs would sound if I tried to give them a certain "Jornish" flavour.
In the process I've had a list of 40-50 songs, but had to cut down to 11-12 tracks, which means I will probably have to do another album like this sometime in the future. Thinking about all the great songs that was ruled out, I already feel there are some unfinished business there, but we'll see what life brings. I usually prefer to work on my own songs, and when we started recording I thought it wouldn't be too difficult or time consuming, but man was I wrong! Maybe it's the greatness in the songs I chose that made me realize how great the original recordings are, and that people often take it too lightly when talking about recording other peoples work.
We've tried our best to make the songs our own, and some songs really worked out well, and I hope you'll like it. Album title, more info and artwork will be announced and uploaded very soon.
Merry Christmas everyone!
- Jorn

FRANKIE SULLIVAN Still Suing People, This Time It's JIM PETERIK Again

Artist:
Categories:
News Feed

Will someone PLEASE tell FRANKIE SULLIVAN to let it go and channel his energies into actually creating something, instead of spending his days suing people.

This time it's his SURVIVOR co-founder JIM PETERIK yet again - for infringement on the Survivor name Jim signed his rights away to nearly two decades ago.

The artcile is below, but for the record, Jim co-founded the band Survivor and co-wrote everything with Frankie, and I've never seen him do anyting but proudly uphold the legacy of the name. And he always prefaces anything with 'former member of..." Dear me Frankie - just make some damn music already.

Original members of the iconic Chicago rock group Survivor, best known for the 1982 hit "Eye of the Tiger" from the movie "Rocky III," are rising up for a court fight over use of the band's name.

Guitarist Frank Sullivan, who started Survivor in 1977, filed suit in Chicago federal court Monday against co-founder James "Jim" Peterik for using the trademarked Survivor name without permission.

Sullivan and Peterik signed an agreement in 1995 granting Survivor Music exclusive use of the Survivor name. In 1996, Peterik "voluntarily departed" from Survivor, assigning all of his rights to use the band's trademarked name to Sullivan, according to the lawsuit.

Since that time, Sullivan has continued to perform and record as Survivor, touring as recently as two years ago until the August 2014 death of leader singer Jimi Jamison of a heart attack. Jamison joined Survivor in 1984, replacing Dave Bickler, lead singer on "Eye of the Tiger" and several other hits, who left the band at its height after developing polyps on his vocal cords.

The suit alleges that Peterik has illegally continued to use the Survivor name since departing the group, including promoting his solo career with the description "co-founder of Survivor" and subtitling his autobiography "The Rock 'n' Roll Life of Survivor's Founding Member."

Peterik, 65, who lives in the southwest suburbs, has a long history in Chicago rock music, dating to The Ides of March, which had the 1970 hit "Vehicle."

Bob Bergland, an original member of The Ides of March and Peterik's manager, said attorneys were reviewing Sullivan's lawsuit, and he declined further comment.

The five-count lawsuit asks that Peterik be ordered to stop using the Survivor trademark, "publicly acknowledge" that his goods and services are not connected with Survivor and deliver to the court all products under his control bearing the Survivor trademark for destruction.

The suit is seeking unspecified damages and all profits received by Peterik "as a result of his unlawful action."

The Blackmail Snaps Give Away Free track From Forthcoming Debut Album
THE BLACKMAIL SNAPS - Songs in TWO feelgood flavoursHARD ROCK and HEAVY METAL

"Go check out the new Blackmail Snaps album. Quite Simply the best Rock 'n' Roll debut I've heard in years. This lot will liven up the scene and then some!"-Mick Geggus, The Crunch, ex-Cockney Rejects

"Blackmail Snaps are a great trio from the UK that combine straight-ahead classic '70s hard rock with NWOBHM undertones. Great riffs and memorable hooks!" - Bob Nalbandian, Presenter of "Inside Metal" TV show, USA

“....at times recalling the blue-collar authenticity of AC/DC but with a distinctly British edge... with a little UFO and Thin Lizzy thrown in for good measure...The Blackmail Snaps are a band full of promise and When One Door Closes, Smash A Window is a fine introduction to their hard rockin’ world!” – Worship Metal, UK

"Imagine a bare bones garage band weaned on the likes of … Thin Lizzy and The Sex Pistols given the chance to run amok in the studio for a few hours. The Blackmail Snaps are all spit, no polish. As real as rock gets at street level." Carl Begai / BraveWords
“An infectious offering, packed full of riffs that you wouldn't wanna meet down a dark alley” – Carl Anthony Wright, The GTR Rockshow, Platinum Rock Radio

Up and coming UK Hard Rockers The Blackmail Snaps are giving away a free MP3 song from their forthcoming debut album via  their website now at www.blackmailsnaps.com
The album is titled “When One Door Closes, Smash A Window”, and will be available exclusively from www.blackmailsnaps.com on Friday 29th January 2016, and will also be available to pre-order at a discount price from Wednesday 13th January 2016.
Taking their musical cues from classic acts like Thin Lizzy, AC/DC, UFO, Black Sabbath, Motorhead, Judas Priest, Scorpions, Iron Maiden, Accept and Metallica, The Blackmail Snaps offer up a fresh, contemporary blend of Hard Rock and Heavy Metal, delivering memorable songs with relentless energy. Pounding drums, rumbling bass, biting guitars and gritty vocals underpin the band’s heavy, melodic material.

A power trio in the vintage mould, the band feature David Nuttall (Drums/Vocals, ex Toy Dolls), Marc Hood (Bass / Vocals) and Rich Davenport (Guitar/Lead Vocals, ex See Red, Atomkraft). Songs from their debut album, “When One Door Closes, Smash A Window”, have already met with an enthusiastic reception at live shows.
Although the band take their music very seriously, they’re not afraid to follow the lead of bands they grew up on, like AC/DC and Twisted Sister, in letting their infectious sense of humour shine through. This is reflected in the first single from the album, a song for anyone having a bad day, entitled “The Wheel Is Spinning (But The Hamster Is Dead)”.

Other songs deal with getting through tough times, dealing effectively with people you’d rather attack with a cattle prod, corruption in high places, and trying to emerge from all of the above with your sanity intact, all summed up in the title track – “When One Door Closes, Smash A Window!”
Their down-to-earth attitude and in your face live performances have seen them garner enthusiastic responses from a range of audiences, and they aim to carry on gigging extensively in support of the album throughout 2016.

The TWISTED SISTER Movie 'We are Twisted F*cking Sister!' Update

The Twisted Sister movie 'We are Twisted F*cking Sister!' a documentary film by Andrew Horn to be released in Europe/UK on a new date, February 12, 2016 via MONODUO FILMS. The film, lenght 137 minutes + over 2 hours bonus material will be available on VOD (iTunes & Vimeo on Demand) and as DVD (Amazon Europe and Monoduo Films Shop). The new re-worked DVD cover and a  movie trailer can be viewed below.

'We are Twisted F*cking Sister!' movie trailer: https://vimeo.com/117275694

Featuring: Twisted SisterDee SniderJay Jay FrenchEddie Ojeda, Mark “The Animal” MendozaA.J. Pero
Produced by Andrew Horn

How fitting that 2016 marks the release of the documentary film, “We Are Twisted F*cking Sister!” a documentary film by german filmmaker Andrew Horn, which recounts the untold story of Twisted Sister’s beginnings, at the same time that the band mounts their last ever tour, making their final farewell to performing after 40 years. As the band gears up for the big finish, the movie shows how it all began.

Once upon a time, they were the Grand Funk of Glam and the NY Dolls of Metal. Some considered Twisted Sister a joke, others called them the greatest bar band in the world. While the microcosm of Punk/New Wave was taking over NYC in the mid 70s - early 80s
Twisted Sister was battling their way to the top of a vast - and unique to it’s time - suburban, co cover-band bar scene that surrounded NYC in a 100 mile radius, yet existed in a parallel universe. Guitarist, Jay Jay French, says, “the history of Twisted is really our 10 years clawing our way through the bar scene. It’s who we are, and it’s why we are, and why we do what we do.”

The film follows the band from their beginnings as a cross-dressing glam band playing 4 shows a night, 6 nights a week in New Jersey bowling alleys and Long Island beach bars, to the suburban mega-clubs of the late 70s/early 80s, to their bust-out appearance on the UK rock TV show, “The Tube”. Through it all, Twisted stood ready to do or die for the sake of “the show”, giving their all to the crowd, and demanding full attention in return. They refused to play the usual bar band role of “human juke box for drunk and horny teens” - you were going too be entertained whether you liked it or not.

They regaled their audiences with comedy rants, dragging them on stage for vomit inducing drinking games, engaging them in fits of disco record smashing and, at their most extreme, whipping them into club-destroying frenzy. The performances were low on style and heavy on the humour and attitude - but behind it all, always smart and fulll of self-awareness. Spinal Tap may have been clueless but Twisted Sister knew exactly what they were doing!

If you think you know them from their hit songs, the MTV videos and their massive stadium shows, this is the story of how they became that band - full of strange, and often hillarious, twists and turns. It’s about Rock ‘n Roll and the business of Rock ‘n Roll. It’s about perseverance and things blowing up in your face. It’s about finding yourself, finding your audience and doing literally anything, however wild, to connect with them. And even though we know how it ends, the roller coaster ride of getting there is what it’s all about. A mesmerizing, and wickedly funny story of a 10 year odyssey to overnight success.

“A sure-fire crowd pleaser...very, very, very entertaining” - The Hollywood Reporter

“Uproarious and poignant - a tale of excess, egotism andd absurdity” - The Independent

STYX Screens Fading American Dream At Paradise Theater JY, Shaw, DeYoung, Gowan Weigh In On Albums 35th Anniversary

Dallas, TX - January 14, 2016.  North American syndicated Rock radio show and website InTheStudio: The Stories Behind Historys Greatest Rock Bands  celebrates the  35th anniversary of Styx raising the curtain on the Eighties with their best-seller ever, Paradise Theater.

From July of 1977 to the end of that decade, you would be hard pressed to find an American rock band more popular than the Chicago quintet Styx.  In that two and a half year period, Styx had three Top 10 albums selling a total of eight million copies. Then in January 1981 Styx would release Paradise Theater, an album echoing the sentiments of millions of Americans struggling with high employment, skyrocketing interest rates, urban decay and crime. Paradise Theater would go on to be Styxs biggest-selling album producing the hits Rockin the Paradise, The Best of Times, Too Much Time On My Hands and Snowblind.

InTheStudio producer and host Redbeard has assembled a show featuring classic interviews with current Styx members James JY Young, Tommy Shaw, Lawrence Gowan, and former member and co-founder Dennis DeYoung, who admitted that Styxs first #1 single, Babe the year before, proved to be a double-edged sword.

There was this concern within the band that this ballad Babe was a mistakeWe entered into Paradise Theater with this kind of cloud hanging over us.     - Dennis DeYoung

A lot of the biggest songs we play in concert, they were never attempted as pop singles, yet theyre the fabric of the fans who still come to see us. - Tommy Shaw

(Snowblind) is a negative song about drug addiction. It wasnt always perceived that way, because the lyrics were not overtly intended to say, This is bad...The tone of the song was intended to convey the message that substance abuse is a negative thing.    - James JY Young

The toughest thing for me, coming into Styx... is being part of that three voice Hydra. The power of those voices together is one of the most distinctive things about Styx.   - Lawrence Gowan

BP: You've obviously been playing a lot of the Savatage material on your own since the last time you guys toured together, but what was it like when the six of you got together for rehearsals again for Wacken?

Jon Oliva: It was like we never stopped playing. It was really strange. This whole Wacken thing was a very bizarre thing because when we first set up for the first days of rehearsal at the fairgrounds, it was just like we never stopped playing together. It was so weird. I mean we just played through the stuff as if we were on tour. That was strange as well just the way, you know, I mean we hadn't played, that group of guys, we haven't been on stage together or even played together since Al's last tour was what, '98? I mean we toured again in 2000, 2001, but Pitrelli wasn't with us. So '98 was his last tour so that was a long time, but it didn't feel like we...you know you would expect some rust or you would expect some mistakes or some shit like that, but it was as if we were, you know, it was as if we were playing together for the last twenty years. That's what people don't understand, but we do, we are together a lot.

"I gave all the Savatage fans the best years of my life from the day I turned 21 to the day I turned 40. That's all I did was Savatage. That was the best years of my life. I lost my, I lost my house, I lost my cars, I got divorced. Thank god my wife forgave me and remarried me, but I sacrificed everything for that band and you know, people don't really...it kind of bothers me a little bit people don't really understand that. How much that, how much I went through to keep that band together. And I would think people would be happy that I'm happy. You know, and to say, "Jon gave, if this is what he wants to do great, he's writing great stuff and blah blah blah..." And that's how I want it, you know. I wish the Savatage fans would feel that, you know, this is my decision.
It's nothing that was forced on me or anything like that. This is what I want to do because I want, I want to push my limits until the day I'm dead. I want to keep trying to come up with different things and new ideas and I gave you guys 25 years of my life with Savatage. You know, the best years of my life. You know while everybody else was living their lives I was sleeping in fucking vans and buses and traveling around playing in front of 200 people in a beer bar and doing all that shit in the early days and then legging around Europe and all the stuff that we went through and the, you know, all the chaos and the, you know, the tragedy of losing Criss and everything like that. You know it's just, it was time for me to take a step back and say look to the...what do you want to do when you're in your 50s and 60s. Obviously it's not running around singing "24 Hours Ago." You know, it's not gonna happen. So, this is my decision and I'm very happy right now. I'm a very happy guy."
