The eagerly anticipated new Harem Scarem album Change The World is out March 6. There is a Japanese Deluxe Edition which includes a bonus track and DVD, which you can order now from CD Japan
Most of the world went nuts at the brilliance of United, so what can the band possibly do to deliver a credible follow-up to one of their best records ever?
Well...they simply do it all over again! Change The World is every bit as impressive and memorable as United and maybe even better! Once again, the new album is chock full of massive choruses, huge harmonies and layers upon layers of guitars.
The album is a little heavier in places, with 5 uptempo rockers included, and features without doubt, some of the best Harem songs of their entire catalogue.
I can't see any Harem fan not being as blown away by this as they were with United. Change The World is another absolute cracker!
PS. Listen out for the 1, 2, 3 punch of tracks 2, 3 & 4 - Aftershock, Searching For Meaning and Death Of Me. Oh my!

California hard rock veterans, ANGELES release new album Fire It Up, in stores on 13 December through Dark Star Records.

Formed way back in 1979, ANGELES came up through the same Hollywood clubs that spawned the likes of Motley Crue, Ratt, WASP and more.  Friendly rivals with all their contemporaries, ANGELES made their mark on the early 80's Sunset Strip scene but never managed to grab the gold ring that some of their friends did.

They did, however stay active throughout the years and Fire It Up - produced by Matt Thorne (aka Matt Thorr of Rough Cutt and Jailhouse) - is their twelfth release and debut for Dark Star.

Frontiers Music Srl is excited to announce the signing of Her Chariot Awaits, a new band project featuring the artistic union between the awesome American guitarist and producer Mike Orlando(Adrenaline Mob) and highly regarded ex-Sirenia singer Ailyn on lead vocals. The band is currently wrapping up their debut album for release in early 2020.

This exciting new musical alliance came about through the vision of Frontiers, which put the two artists - each eager to create a new and exciting musical project - in touch with one another. The pair gelled very well, as listeners will be able to hear upon the album's release. Ailyn, especially, is excited to be able to explore new and very muscular, but still melodic, musical landscapes.

The resulting album, which will see the light of day in the first part of 2020, offers up songs that will excite all lovers of technical, aggressive and extremely catchy heavy metal music. Melting the well defined metal approach of Adrenaline Mob with more melodic hooks, Her Chariot Awaits showcases the incredible vocal talents of Ailyn. Here, she moves in a heavier and more straight ahead territory compared to her previous band, Sirenia.

Ailyn says, “After a two year break from the scene, I am pleased to announce my new collaboration with Mike Orlando on Her Chariot Awaits. I’m very honoured and thankful to be part of it. I’m looking forward for everyone to learn about this new adventure, which allowed me to experiment and explore a new side on my singing, working together with a great musician. Her Chariot Awaits is a new step forward on my music career and I can’t wait to share the beginning of this journey with all of you."

Mike Orlando says, “It was a pleasure to write and perform an album with a singer like Ailyn with music that is geared more towards the commercial side of rock. Ailyn has a beautiful voice and was great to work with in and out of the studio, as was as Jeff Thal on drums! I'm very happy with how the album is coming out. It's a great collection of hard hitting yet melodic commercial rock tracks, which I hope you all enjoy.”

The resulting album is going to leave people breathless and marks an amazing union of two great artists who still have a lot to prove - stay tuned!

Be sure to follow the band on their newly launch Facebook page here: https://www.facebook.com/HerChariotAwaits

Widespread reports this week on the health of EDDIE VAN HALEN.

Rumours have been gathering in recent weeks and the damn finally broke when TMZ reported that the legendary guitarist has been traveling back and forth to Germany for throat cancer treatment.

There has been no official response from the VAN HALEN camp, but I can confirm that the information posted is accurate.  Eddie was diagnosed with throat cancer some time back now and has been travelling to Europe for at least the last 12-18 months seeking the best and most up to date treatments available.

I was told the treatments have helped and he's doing better currently. That is up to date info.

What I can add is confirmation that select VAN HALEN tour dates being planning were scuttled earlier this year when Eddie pulled the plug to concentrate on his health.

We wish Eddie all the very best with his treatment and recovery.

RIP Erik Scott (Signal)

Another fantastic bloke and a real talent.
It’s been a rough few weeks for melodic rock fans and this just makes it harder.
I enjoyed all interactions with Erik over the years and my huge regret of my time in this business was coming all too close to getting a Signal reunion underway several years back.
Very saddened by this news.

RIP Erik

Frontiers Music Srl is pleased to announce the signing of Brazil’s LANDFALL. Hailing from Curitiba, the band features former Auras singer Gui Oliver - a true dead ringer for the legendary Steve Perry - Landfall's sound can be described as falling between classic melodic rock a là Journey with some slightly heavier influences, such as classic era Dokken, White Lion, and Extreme.

“I’m really glad to be back with Frontiers with a new band and new songs in a new perspective. I believe this is my best album so far. I was really impressed when I met the band for the first time. They are truly amazing, gifted and very prepared to do this with me,” says Gui Oliver.

Landfall was originally started by drummer Felipe Souzza and guitarist Marcelo Gelbcke, who are childhood friends and have been playing together since they were about 15 years old. Some years later, bassist Thiago Forbeci joined up with them, adding new musical input and influences and the band decided to go in a new direction. They began writing their songs and creating their own music repertoire to work off of and it was during this period that they recorded a few albums together and performed several concerts around Brazil, including opening for acts like Glenn Hughes and Mike Vescera.

Joining forces together, Gui, Felipe, Marcelo and Thiago created Landfall (formerly known as W.I.L.D.), a blend of hard rock, melodic rock, and AOR.

Frontiers Music Srl is pleased to announce the signing of one of the hottest new AOR bands to come out of the underground European scene, STARDUST. Signed after some fans put the band to the attention of label staff during one of the Frontiers Rock Festivals, Stardust are preparing to release their label debut in 2020.

“Our first EP got really good feedback from the fans, not only from Hungary, but from around the world,” says singer Adam Stewart. “I expect that our debut album, that is currently underway, will be enjoyed by a much bigger amount of melodic rock fans thanks to our new cooperation with Frontiers. Stardust plays AOR/Melodic Rock with catchy melodies and lyrics,so Frontiers is truly a perfect home for us. We look forward to releasing our album and planning more tours, shows, and videos to be shared with the fans!"

Founded by two friends, Adam Stewart (lead vocals) and Tim Keeley (drums) in 2015, the band is rounded out by Facey (lead guitar and vocals), Dave Legrand (keyboard), and Ben Martin (bass and vocals). The group's style is an amalgam of the classic melodic hard rock and AOR genres, with hooky choruses, beautiful keyboards and vocal harmonies, and loud guitars in the style of their favorite mid-80's bands, bringing to life this well beloved music in the 21st century.

The band independently released the “Shine" EP, from which this single and video for the track 'Shout it Out!' was lifted. For a taste of what's in store from Stardust, check this out: https://youtu.be/sqxiVQ9r-dw

Stardust is the latest in a long line of amazing AOR/MelodicRock signings for the label, so be sure to stay tuned! Follow the band on their social media and website to keep up with album news, show announcements, and more.

I am excited to announce the first ever MelodicRock.com book to be delivered in the first half of 2020.

Initially it was the plan to gather all the interviews I have done over the years and have them all in one place. Then I figured I could tidy them up a bit, add in some fresh thoughts – especially given that the interviews were held over a 15-year period and some dealt with events that have since developed further or played out to a notable conclusion.

There will also hopefully be a few never before published interviews. I have to locate the original audio, but for one reason or other, there were a small number of interviews that were never published at the time.

In addition, the several instances of liner notes I have written over the years will all be gathered into their own chapter along with (if I can find the audio!) some of the interviews conducted to write the liner essays.

There’s a few more ideas in mind that will be detailed in coming weeks.

This is something I have wanted to do for a long time and you can be assured that it will be done with the same quality as other MR branded products.

A list of interviews and essays will be published with an expanded press release soon.

There will be a few different options available, such as limited edition numbered hard cover, regular paperback, ebook and more…

Stay tuned for updates!

Pretty Maids posted this sad news on Saturday. All the best wishes go to Ronnie for a full and speedy recovery.

We are sorry to announce these bad news
Our brother Ronnie has recently been diagnosed with lung cancer…
This means we will have to cancel all shows announced until the end of January 2020 and we’re all sorry for the inconvenience that might bring.
Right now all plans are on hold, so for the moment we can’t say much more due to the current situation but we will keep you updated.
ALL focus is now on Ronnie's health and undergoing treatment.
We hope for your love and understanding.
/Ken, Rene, Chris and Allan
Ronnies open letter:
STATEMENT
It’s scary how your world can be turned upside down in a couple of weeks.
I went to my doctor for a routine check complaining about some back pains in mid-August.
I then went through numerous scans, bronchoscopy, biopsies etc. and spent a lot of time waiting for answers in uncertainty.
And so finally three weeks ago I found myself diagnosed with lung cancer.
Now this has by all means been a shock to me, my family and those close to me since it came totally unexpected without any typical symptoms and everything just happened and developed so fast lately.
I’m already in treatment and underwent surgery two weeks ago, then spend some 10 days in hospital with pneumonia as a consequence apparently linked to the surgery.
According to the medical staff my prospects are good considering it’s lung cancer. However, I will have to undertake further treatment the next couple of months to be on the safe side.
This means that I unfortunately will have to step back from most musical activities concerts etc. for an indefinite period of time.
I’m going into this with a positive mindset and with the continuing love and support from my family and friends I’m determined to battle this disease the best I can -God willing!
LOVE ❤️

This weekend saw the passing of drum legend GINGER BAKER, which has gained the most attention in the media. RIP Ginger. https://www.theguardian.com/music/2019/oct/06/ginger-baker-wild-and-brilliant-cream-drummer-dies-aged-80

But there has been another sad loss for the melodic world – long time 38 Special bassist LARRY “L.J.” JUNSTROM.

The band posted this tribute:

“The Big Man on the Big Bass has left us.
He rocked arenas all over the world and succeeded in living his dream.
He was truly one of a kind, a congenial traveling companion and a great friend to all with a humorous slant on life that always kept our spirits high - a kind man with a big heart for everyone who crossed his path. There will never be another like him.

We are sending our devoted love, strength and comfort to his wife Thania and Larry’s family. We will miss our friend and partner.
Larry “L.J.” Junstrom
1949 – 2019.”

Longtime 38 Special band collaborator Jim Peterik also left a heartfelt message:

“The rock world lost a giant with the passing of Larry "LJ" Jungstrom, the original and long standing bass man of 38 Special. Larry added his bass signature to their amazing song catalogue in the 80's including all their biggest hits.

He had a style that added that authentic Southern swagger to every track. As the co-writer of many of their hits in the early 80's I would always look forward to hearing the final recording once it was finished. I especially loved LJ's “walking” bass at the outro to "Hold On Loosely." He didn’t much care if the technique was in or out of style- as long as it felt right.

His Southern wisdom was priceless.

“Jim, I just don’t get that one line you wrote in "Fantasy Girl" -- what’s a "Mind’s Eye" anyway? Is that like a brain’s eye?" I had to chuckle. Was he putting me on? Guess I’ll never know. But LJ was a classic and the bass foundation of the 38 Special sound. He will be missed by all that knew him, personally and through his music.

Jim Peterik.”

RIP Larry.

“Silver Dreams: The Complete Albums 1975-1980” is a fitting and thorough testament to a band that truly deserved to crossover into mainstream success. As a bonus, this collection’s 6th disc kicks off with the live, promo only “Live At The Tower Theatre, Philadelphia” from a 1977 concert whilst promoting their debut record. To complete the picture we go back to their very first recordings, with the aforementioned “The Official Unofficial BABYS Album”

The Babys are probably better known for what their various members achieved later in their careers; singer John Waite’s massive solo success with the single ‘Missing You’ in 1984, and keyboard player Jonathan Cain, who would go on to be a principal member and song writer with Journey. In fact you’d be forgiven for thinking that The Babys were an American band, such was their impact on the US during the latter half of the 1970s and into the early 1980s, but their origins go back to London in 1974, when keyboard player Mike Corby met Adrian Millar, who were joined by Wally Stocker on lead guitar, Tony Brock on drums, and singer/ bass guitarist John Waite.

Although an album was recorded and shelved in 1975, included here on CD6 as “The Official Unofficial BABYS Album”, for the debut album proper they signed to Chrysalis Records in 1976 to release their eponymous debut, “The Babys”. Co-produced by Bob Ezrin, “The Babys” set their stall out from the beginning as melodic rockers, propelled by John Waite’s bluesy, soulful vocals. Bonus tracks are ‘If You’ve Got The Time’ (Alternative Mix), ‘Head Above The Waves’ (B-Side) and ‘If You’ve Got The Time’ (mono).

Released within a year, 1977’s “Broken Heart” featured the hit singles ‘Isn’t It Time’ (US #13 & UK #45) and ‘Silver Dreams’. This time the album was produced by Ron Nevison, famed for his work for The Who, Led Zeppelin, Thin Lizzy and Bad Company, as well as Chrysalis label mates UFO. Bonus tracks are ‘Money (That’s What I Want)’, ‘Silver Dreams (mono)’, plus single edit and mono versions of ‘Isn’t It Time’.

Sticking with Ron Nevison for 1978’s “Head First”, The Babys had trimmed down to a three-piece of John Waite, Wally Stocker and Tony Brock. Peaking at #22, “Head First” was their highest charting US album, and features the singles ‘Every Time I Think Of You’ (US #13) plus the title track, ‘Head First’.

Produced by Keith Olsen, famed for his platinum work with the Rick Springfield, Pat Benatar, Heart, Whitesnake, Foreigner and REO Speedwagon, by 1980’s “Union Jacks” The Babys had been joined by Jonathan Cain on keyboards and Ricky Phillips on bass. Featuring the singles ‘Midnight Rendezvous’ and ‘Back On My Feet Again’, mono versions of these tracks are also included as bonus tracks.

Sticking with producer Keith Olsen, and maintaining the same line-up as “Union Jacks”, their fifth and final album in as many years was 1980’s “On The Edge”. Featuring mono versions of ‘Turn And Walk Away’ and ‘Postcard’, The Babys split shortly after the album’s release.

New video for the cover of The Storm's "Show Me The Way"

Stream/Download EP: https://orcd.co/jukeboxheroes

Sweden's Perfect Plan continue work on their second studio album, but as a treat for fans, have released a digital only covers EP, "Jukebox Heroes" featuring covers of songs by Foreigner, Giant, Survivor & The Storm (an American supergroup featuring then former Journey members: Gregg Rolie, Steve Smith, Ross Valory plus guitarist Josh Ramos & singer Kevin Chalfant).

”We are so excited to have been given the possibility to do these four cover songs. We had so much fun making this tribute to our idols, who we listened to growing up. We think that the EP showcases what the band is all about: having fun making high quality AOR/Melodic Rock. This was also a way to fill the gap between records for our fans while working on the next album. About the next album, we are in the middle of pre-production and it’s going great. We are so excited and proud of the songs and can’t wait to share them with the world!” - Perfect Plan

A few weeks ago I posted an update regarding the future format of MelodicRock and my desire to do things a little differently. Well, I just wanted to add a quick update, the ideas are flowing, and a plan is slowly taking shape.

Business as normal until any changes are announced, although there may be a little less content posted as I plan behind the scenes.

From ONE DESIRE’s FB page:

Hi everyone!
A little bit bigger update here:

After being locked away in the studio darkness for the past year here’s finally a sign of life. We have just started the final sprint to completion of the album and finally the songs and lyrics are coming together the way we like it from start to finish on tape. The sound and material is gonna be killer beast. Damn.. If I would resemble this album in racing terms it would probably be something like “Super car speed all the way with 2 gas stops in between”. Haha

Yes most of it is up-tempo, a lot of riffs combined with beautiful vox melodies and some guitar fire in between. We can’t wait for you to hear this and I have promised Frontiers Records to give away some sound samples soon before starting the mixes.

So what’s next.. The whole picture is basically painted, still however bits and pieces here and there. A couple lyrics we gotta finish with Andre, 2-3 guitar solos, 3-4 background vox packages and some keys here and there before this puzzle is complete. The big strokes are done and we are now adding the last colors and touches to this beast. Final mixing and mastering during October / November.

Upcoming month we will start planning art work, upcoming video rec dates, album track list, dates for singles and album release etc. Big tour for 2020 locked. We will play a lot next year and we are putting in lots of effort in the live thing so the shows will get something new and fresh for our second album.. I could go on but I will let the music do the talking.

I promise to post some fun behind the scenes footage from making of the album. Soon folks, soon..

With love from Finland

I'm excited to say, the upcoming H.E.A.T single "One By One" is 3 minutes and 47 seconds of unadulterated, pure melodic hard rock bliss, very reminiscent of the debut, but updated.

Here's the official press release:

"H.E.A.T announces release of a brand new album, titled “H.E.A.T II”, early next year.
“H.E.A.T II” is the first album ever to be produced entirely by the band with Jona Tee and Dave Dalone as producers. ”This is how we would sound if we made a debut album 2019, hence the title.
First out is the brand new single ”One by One” with an animated video to go with it, release September 27th, followed by the anthem ”Rise” (release later this fall).

”One by One is about enlightening people and showing an alternative path to life. A road less travelled, if you will.” ~ H.E.A.T

The album "H.E.A.T II" is out January 22!
