Los Angeles based, US Heavy / Power metal legends STEEL PROPHET are back with a new massive sounding heavy metal album that will definitely hit the top lists of 2019! Five years after the release of their latest album "Omniscient" the band recruited the all-star Heavy Metal singer / producer R.D. Liapakis of Mystic Prophecy / Devil'sTrain and his uniquely ranged vocal skills to perfectly match the songs on "The God Machine".

R.D. Liapakis is not just only the man behind the microphone though since he, alongside Steve Kachinsky is responsible for the songwriting and production process of the album. The voice of R.D. Liapakis sounds tough, bluesy and strong, with wide range, power and style. The high notes come effortlessly, and the lead vocals make you want to stand up and wail along with his singing. The drums sound huge and perfectly combine that old-school punch feeling you get in classic heavy metal albums while sounding fresh and up to date at the same time. The guitar work on the album sounds like all the hallowed marks of Heavy Metal classics with speedy licks and fast, furious and melodic riffs and solos complimented by fat basslines that anchor all instruments into a magnificent combo highlighting the amazing vocal lines. Each song is a delight by itself and elements of thrash, doom, and even some Scorpions tinged melodicism can be found in the band's US Power Metal.

If you live and breathe the spirit of Heavy Metal you will be astonished by "The God Machine" in its entirety. Produced by Steve Kachinsky and R.D. Liapakis (Mystic Prophecy, Devil’s Train, Suicidal Angels, Firewind, Eldritch, Silius, FireForce and many more). Mixed and mastered by “Best Producer 2017-Heavy Music Award” winner Henrik Udd at Henrik UddRecording Studios (ArchitectsBring Me The HorizonHammerfallPowerwolf etc), who gave "The God Machine" a smooth and polished, yet brutally heavy sound. The album starts with the absolute banger album title song “The God Machine”, featuring furious rhythms, fast riffing and catchy arena choruses preparing the ground for “Crucify” which along with “Dark Mask / Between Love And Hate” will catapult the listener back to the best NWOBHM years while “Thrashed Relentlessly” is the definition of US power metal riffing! Songs like “Damnation Calling” and “Lucifer / The Devil Inside” will bring in mind the mighty “Headless Cross” Black Sabbath, Tony Martin era.

The album’s multidimensional yet classic Heavy Metal mark is ultimately revealed to the listener as soon as the power ballad “Buried And Broken” kicks in! “The God Machine” is a high quality metal album that will become an instant classic among STEEL PROPHET’s catalogue!

STEEL PROPHET is:
R.D. Liapakis - Lead & Background Vocals (Mystic Prophecy, Devil’s Train)
Steve Kachinsky - Lead & Rhythm Guitar, Keyboards
Jon Paget - Lead Guitar
Vince Dennis - Bass (Body Count, ex-World in Pain, ex-Dia de los Muertos, ex-Tourniquet, ex-Prong (live), ex-Obscene Gesture)

Heavy Pettin' first stirred into action when vocalist Hamie, guitarists Gordon Bonnar and Punky Mendoza, drummer Gary Moat and bassist Brian Waugh first burst out of Glasgow in 1981. They were vibrant, priapic, anthemic and focused. As they showed on a three-track demo, and on the subsequent debut single for independent label Neat (‘Roll The Dice’/’Love Xs Love’), they were more than mere Def Leppard slaves. In fact, the Pettin’ had an international sound that owed something to AC/DC, UFO, Thin Lizzy and Foreigner, but also had its own raging momentum.

Not that the band found the road straightforward. But, thanks to a work ethic that took them around the country, plus a valuable session for Radio 1’s prestigious ‘Friday Rock Show’, the band eventually landed a crucial deal with the major label Polydor Records. Moreover, their 1983 debut album (‘Lettin’ Loose’) was co-produced by the creative Mack together with Queen guitarist Brian May. Now, that’s pedigree.

Amazingly, that album has survived more than 20 years of high-speed hi-tech developments intact. While other, more celebrated records have dated badly, ‘Lettin’ Loose’ re-affirms the belief back then that the Pettin would follow Leppard to big time stature. What went wrong at the time has little to do with band, or lack of ambition/talent.

In America, where they should have broken big long before Bon Jovi gave Love A Bad Name, they were held back by the label’s insistence on an anaemic re-mix (as well as a title change to ‘Heavy Pettin’, which caused more confusion than anything else). If the band’s essential, vital British brio had been left as conceived in the first place, who knows what might have been achieved. Still, a slot on the bill for the 1983 Reading Festival, the day that Black Sabbath infamously headlined when fronted by Ian Gillan, did them no harm and touring with both Kiss and Ozzy helped the quintet’s progress.

Two years later, the Pettin return to the studio, this time with producer Mark Dearnley (who’d worked with AC/DC and Krokus). The result? ‘Rock Ain’t Dead’, which surprised many with a slicker yet conversely tougher approach. The lads really had progressed, although ironically if things had gone to plan, this would have been produced by Lance Quinn, of Bon Jovi and Lita Ford fame. However, just hours before the band were due to fly to Philadelphia, to work with Quinn at his Warehouse Studios, the decision was taken by PolyGram (to whom both Heavy Pettin and Bon Jovi were signed in the US) that, instead, he should start work immediately on what was to be Jovi’s second record, ‘7800 Degrees Fahrenheit’.

Perhaps then, it should have been obvious that record company politics were to scupper Pettin in the crucial American market. Despite continuing to show up well in the UK, once again the US was to prove elusive – through no fault of the five musicians. In many respects, this was the point when the writing was scrawled over every available wall space. Regardless of their obvious determination and grassroots support in Britain, it seemed as if Pettin’s realistic chance of significant international success had gone. A third album, ‘The Big Bang’, was released by FM Revolver in 1989. Although it still proved this lot were way ahead of so many others who were selling truckloads of units and getting acclaim from the media; as the 1980s faded into memory, so too did Heavy Pettin.

Driven by a desire, a passion and a capacity simply to invoke the magic and rapport the band enjoyed, they released Prodigal Songs in 2007. The album was well received by their loyal fans and the limited pressing sold out making it a highly sought-after collector’s item.

In 2017, original members Hamie, Punky, and Gordon joined by Jez Parry on bass and Michael Ivory on drums performed for the first time in 25 years at Scotland’s WinterStorm. Reinvigorated, Heavy Pettin, now joined by ex-Gun guitarist Dave Aitken due to Punky hanging up his guitar and going in to retirement, did several shows in 2018 including a 6 date UK tour, with 3 sold out gigs in Nottingham, London and Edinburgh, as well as 2 sold out headline gigs in Milton Keynes and Glasgow.

2019 is going to be Heavy Pettin’s year with the HRH AOR March 16, Headbangers Open Air in Germany in July 27th  and Aug 25th Golden Age of Rock Festival in Belgium already booked and more dates to be announced.

According to Hamie, fans should look for a new album as “…the demand and support for new HP material has been so overwhelming, we are excited to say we’re now working on brand new HP material which will be released in 2019… and it’s going great!"

BIGFOOT Press Release:

It is with great sadness that we are writing this. But after multiple meetings and discussions we have mutually agreed to part ways with Bigfoot after we have seen out our upcoming tour dates and commitments. No one is giving up music, so keep an eye out and I’m sure everyone will be bringing new music to you in the future.

We haven’t fallen out and are still good friends but we all feel this is the right decision at this time. The band has been our life for the past 5 years and we have worked so hard to get to where we are after starting from the bottom. Pulling the plug has probably been the hardest decision any of us have had to make and we hope that people respect how difficult the decision was and that we have considered all factors.

We would like to thank every single person that has supported us over the years through our ups and downs. Without the support of our amazing fan base, friends and family we couldn’t have achieved what we have and we will forever be grateful for that. We have made some incredible friends that we won’t forget, played with some incredible bands, been to some amazing places in the world and have some of the best memories from it all.

We would also like to thank Sean Seabrook for joining us on lead vocals during such a difficult time for the band which allowed us to follow through with most of our commitments without letting down all the fans, promoters and venues that had invested in the band.

We will be seeing out all the tour dates that have already been announced and will be planning a final farewell tour. We won’t be compromising; you’ll still get 100% from us at all shows!

We hope to see you all out at our final shows to celebrate what’s been one hell of an adventure for us all. We’ll keep you updated about all future activity so stay in touch and don’t forget about us!

Cheers!
Sam, Mick, Tom & Matt

Lanvall: "The whole songwriting process for the new album took around 18 months and I soon realized, that we could bring the band sound to a new level. Our trademark sound of course is still there, nevertheless we have numerous interesting experiments on the album, where we explore new shores. Let it be the irish sounding song "ON THE OTHER SIDE", the half-ballad "TAUERNGOLD" with its doom elements, or the 12 minutes epic longtrack "THE LAST OF HIS KIND". Even after the long songwriting and arranging process I am still super excited with the new songs!"

Sabine: "As Lanvall already mentioned, the recordings to our new album are fully on and what I heard so far in the studio is more than promising. But this is only the beginning and it already sounds huge. So I am really burning to be behind the microphone soon to contribute my part. "DYNAMIND" seems to have a very special energy and will probably turn much upside down. Be prepared!"

Line- Up:
Sabine Edelsbacher – Vocals
Lanvall – Guitars & Keyboards
Dominik Sebastian – Guitars
Stefan Gimpl - Bass
Johannes Jungreithmeier – Drums

Even in the highly adrenaline-fuelled music business, it’s rare to find a bundle of energy on a par with Suzi Quatro. The American rock vocalist has successfully worked as a musician for more than fifty years, delivering with unbridled energy her greatest hits such as ‘Can The Can’, ‘48 Crash’, ‘Devil Gate Drive’, ‘If You Can`t Give Me Love’, ‘She`s In Love With You’ or ‘Stumblin In‘ which made her an icon in the 1970s, and wowing her fans again and again with her new material. So it comes as no surprise that she’s not thinking of retiring. “I’ll retire when I go onstage, shake my ass, and there is silence,” she says, fully aware of the fact that that moment is still a long way off.

Suzi Quatro presents eleven new songs (plus two bonus tracks) on No Control. The majority of the material consists of collaborations with her son from her first marriage, Richard Tuckey. Suzi explains: “This was our first attempt at writing and recording something together. The creative progress began with ‘Don’t Do Me Wrong’. And, through this unusually beautiful English summer of 2018, we sat outside, acoustic bass, acoustic guitar, iPad recording app, and lots of paper, throwing ideas back and forth.” With amazing results, as the new album proves - to Suzi herself not only on a musical but, also on a personal level.

For example on ‘No Soul/No Control’, the first single to be released which features the message “Don`t let go of yourself for anyone”. Suzi: “This is my personal mantra. All you have in this world is you.” Remembering the conception of the number, she says: “We were busy as hell, buried in the songs. Richard had a new idea and showed me. It was very unusual and I liked it. A very basic guitar and drum track was put down for me to work on the melody and lyric. I went into the living area of the studio and about 15 minutes later, it was done. It flew out of its own accord, as the best songs do.”

The same applies to numbers such as ‘Macho Man’ (Suzi: “It’s a no-brainer that this is an opening live song. You cannot help headbanging to it, it just grabs you”), ‘I Can Teach You To Fly’ (“a definite throwback to the sixties”), ‘Easy Pickings’ (“I’ve been playing this riff on acoustic guitar forever, at least the last ten years. Then all of a sudden, it became a song”) and ‘Love Isn’t Fair’ (“Got this idea sitting in our Hamburg home. I wanted to create a Blondie-meets-Mavericks song, and I think I accomplished that”).

The perhaps most unusual track on the album is called ‘Strings’ and has developed into a true little masterpiece during the studio recordings. Suzi: “This is all about the strings that tie our lives together. Great riff. I drove everyone mad singing nonstop in this weird voice ‘Strings’. I couldn’t get it out of my head, and - hallelujah - it came out in the e recording exactly as I’d imagined.”
You can tell how proud Suzi Quatro is of No Control. Pride and delight at a career, which has lasted for five decades and has maintained the creativity of the American rock icon to the present day. Says Quatro: “I’ve never stopped releasing through the years. Back To The Drive in 2006, In The Spotlight in 2011, Quatro, Scott & Powell in 2016. These albums were thought about and planned out in great detail. I am proud of all three releases, very proud. But my new album No Control is its own animal.”

The new album "No Control" will be released through SPV/Steamhammer on March 29th 2019 as CD DigiPak, 2LP Gatefold, download and stream.

New Studio Album Universe To Be Released In 2019
Vocalist/guitarist Alessio Garavello (Ex-Power Quest/Arthemis) and bassist Andrea Lonardi formed A New Tomorrow in London in 2009. The two were later joined by drummer Tim Hall and guitarist Michael Kew (Vega). The band have since honed their sound into powerful, uplifting, hard-hitting melodic hard rock, which drew the attention of Frontiers in 2018 and led to the band's signing.
Rock giants like Alter Bridge, Foo Fighters, Metallica, and Green Day are influential to A New Tomorrow’s musical roots and this rock solid foundation is the road map from which the band developed their sound. Conveying A New Tomorrow’s love for life and go-getter attitude, both on and off stage, their music is meant to motivate and inspire.
Drummer Tim Hall comments, “Several years of amazing times, full of both ups and downs, not just as a band, but as great friends, gave us the foundation to write something special for our music. Universe became the only title to encompass all our experiences as individuals and as a band, with themes - from fear and doubt to taking back the pursuit of our hopes and dreams - that I think all of us can identify with.”
Hall continues, “Expect dynamic and heavy songs, with intricate, interwoven grooves, alongside blankets of melodic guitars and powerful vocals. We feel invigorated playing this music and can’t wait to unleash that energy live in 2019.”
Alessio Garavello on signing to Frontiers: “It’s fantastic to start working with a label that shares the same vision for our music that we do! This union presents an opportunity for us to grow and evolve as a band and we really can’t wait to continue the journey in 2019 and beyond.”
For those unfamiliar with A New Tomorrow, check out videos for previously released tracks “Brighter Than The Sun” and “Damn You” HERE: http://www.anewtomorrowband.com/videos.html
Stay tuned for more info on UNIVERSE and the release of the first single from the album later this year.

Former Guns N Roses Guitarist To Release First Solo Album In 15 Years!
GOLDEN ROBOT RECORDS Welcomes Gilby Clarke To The Family!
The world’s fastest growing independent record label, Golden Robot Records, continues it’s upward trajectory into 2019.  Starting the year off with a bang, the label is honored to welcome to the family, the guitar icon Gilby Clarke!
Gilby recently signed a GLOBAL deal with Golden Robot Records which will see a brand new solo album - The Gospel Truth - released this year. This will be Gilby’s first in over 15 years!

Mark Alexander-Erber, Golden Robot Entertainment Group Founder and President: says of signing Clarke; 'I couldn’t be happier to sign such an incredible artist like Gilby Clarke to our GRR international roster. He is totally authentic through and through. He brings such a wealth of experience to his songwriting, playing and producing and I know the world is ready for his new solo album which is a long time coming. It is an honour to release this record.
Clarke explains his excitement about the signing  “I am so happy to be a part of the Golden Robot family for my new solo record. I use the word family because I feel like I found a home. We share the same passion for Rock n Roll! Rock N Roll is alive n’ well & together we will turn it up loud!”
Gilby recently did an interview with Gibson Guitars at the 2019 Namm show in Los Angeles where he discusses his upcoming album.
Watch it here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=yFnVXj5JyCg

Best known for his tenure in the mighty Guns N Roses, Gilby has a long and storied career of which, GNR is only a part. Arriving in Hollywood as a 17 year old punk from Cleveland, Gilby soon found himself as a ghost writer and session player for former Runaway’s manager, Kim Fowleywho then urged him to join the band, Candy.  Gilby proved a little too rough and ready for the polished power-poppers and found himself a home both with hard-rockers Kill For Thrills and as a songwriter for Virgin Records.
Then a late night call from Slash changed everything… Gilby joined Guns N Roses in late 1991, replacing the recently departed Izzy Stradlin. For the next 3 years, Gilby strapped in for the wildest ride of his life, playing stadiums the world over and appearing on Guns N Roses, Spaghetti Incident, Live Era ’88-’91 and The Greatest Hits albums.

Now in 2019, Gilby is preparing to unleash his first new solo music in nearly two decades! An old school mash-up of Keef, Johnny Thunders, and B.B. King, Gilby’s new album is full of fist-pumping rock ’n’ roll songs with fat choruses, bluesy licks and trademark solos! It’s Classic rock, a new version of what Gilby likes to do and that’s… LOUD GUITARS!

The album features drumming from legendary John Mellencamp and Chickenfoot sticksman Kenny Aronoff and Stephen Perkins from Jane’s Addiction, Porno For Pyro & Infectious Grooves.
The Gospel Truth will be released in the first half of 2019. More details coming very soon!
Gilby joins fellow GNR band mate, Dizzy Reed who was one of the first international signings to Golden Robot Records and released his solo album, Rock N Roll Ain't Easy to critical praise in early 2018.
*****
Gilby Clarke is now part of an international roster that includes such iconic artists as, Guns ’N' Roses keyboardist Dizzy ReedPuddle Of MuddLittle CaesarRaveneyeThe Lazys and the all star A New Revenge which features Tim ‘Ripper’ Owens, Keri Kelli, Rudy Sarzo and James Kottak
Plus, Golden Robot Records boasts an incredible line up of Aussie acts, led by Rose TattooThe SuperjesusMisex and featuring Steve KilbeyPalace Of The KingJailbirdsFyre ByrdThe KidsDestrendsFlickertail and many more.  Watch out for more incredible names who will be joining GRR’s international roster in the near future!
Golden Robot Records now own four record labels and have teams in every major market in the world: Sydney, Los Angeles, New York, Hamburg, London, Tokyo and Auckland.  With globally experienced music industry veterans heading up key roles in A&R, Management, Marketing and Publicity, Golden Robot Records are able to give their roster maximum exposure and support.

Formed in Kuopio, Finland by brothers Aarni & Jaakko Metsäpelto while they were still in junior high, Block Buster spent their teenage years honing their sound and identity. While still in the midst of not being of legal age to play clubs and instead tearing it up at local backyard and basement parties to their sixteen - seventeen year old friends, the band suddenly found themselves being chosen to open for Bon Jovi at Helsinki Olympic Stadium. Since then, Block Buster have been honing their craft playing gigs at festivals and those clubs they are now legally allowed to enter, while also releasing an EP and two singles which have created a nice buzz in the Finnish rock scene and drew the interest of Frontiers.

"All of us in Block Buster feel totally energized to have signed a worldwide deal with one of the truest ROCK labels on the planet, Frontiers Music. It's taken years of hard work to have built up a great team around the band and now we have all the right machinery behind us to push us to the next level. Our first album, "Losing Gravity" will be released on Frontiers worldwide in 2019 and it is going to be a great year for Block Buster. Please join us on the next stage of our rock 'n roll journey!"

Inspired by the sounds of classic hard rock pioneers while adding a modern “retro” approach, Block Buster are ready to break out from their Nordic homeland on to the world stage.

Swedish hard rockers Rough Rockers announce the release of their brand new EP, ‘Smoke And Mirrors’ via Dutch label RVPrecords on April 29. Originally conceived as a songwriter/recording project in 2012 by vocalist/bassist Peter Ljungberg and guitarist Magnus Hällström, the group finally secured a permanent line-up with the recruitment of Australian guitarist Joe Matera and Swedish drummer Roger Eriksson in 2018. The band signed to Dutch record label RVPrecords in late 2018.

Matera – a solo recording artist in his own right – was invited to join the band after both he and the band undertook support slots for NWOBHM band Weapon UK in Sweden in 2017. “I’m looking forward to rocking out with the band” says Matera, “and bringing our unique brand of guitar driven rock to audiences across Europe”.

Adds Ljungberg, “I`m so pleased with the way we have put the songs together. We’ve captured the energy of the band in the essence of the songs, and have created a powerful sound of solid catchy rock `n` roll”.
The new EP features a special appearance by legendary singer Graham Bonnet (Rainbow, Alcatrazz, Michael Schenker Group) who guests on lead vocals on the track, “Unleash The Beast”, Twan Bakker, CEO of RVPrecords said, “I got to know the Swedish Rough Rockers through Joe. Their sound, combined with the personal connection to the ever hard working Matera and respected professional Ljungberg convinced me to sign these guys.”

The EP - was mixed by Tomas Skogsberg (Backyard Babies, Entombed) -showcases the band’s diverse songwriting craft and tough twin guitar sound, with a knack for both sparking tasteful rock tunes and elegant ballads, all underscored by a catchy melodicism.

‘Smoke And Mirrors’ will be released both on CD and as a special limited 12” RED vinyl. The band will tour in support of the new release in May.

GIRLSCHOOL are a British rock band that formed in the new wave of British heavy metal scene in 1978, frequently associated with contemporaries Motörhead. They are the longest-running all-female rock band, still active after almost 40 years. Formed from a school band called Painted Lady, GIRLSCHOOL enjoyed strong media exposure and commercial success in the UK in the early 1980s with three albums of 'punk-tinged metal' and a few singles, that placed them up there with the legends of NWOBHM

In the 1990s and 2000s, GIRLSCHOOL focused on shows and tours and made few studio albums. During their career they travelled the world, playing in many rock and metal festivals and co-headlining with or supporting important hard rock and heavy metal bands. They maintain a worldwide cult following and are an inspiration for many female rock musicians. 3 original members, Kim McAuliffe, Enid Williams and Denise Dufort—are still in the band, with long time axe wielder Jackie Chambers on guitar.

We'll never have Motorhead again, but we can have their mates.

Joining them on their triumphant return, VENOM INC.!!!!!

Formed as Venom in 1979 in Newcastle upon Tyne, England. And coming to prominence towards the end of the new wave of British heavy metal, Venom's first two albums—Welcome to Hell (1981) and Black Metal (1982)—are considered a major influence on thrash metal and extreme metal in general. Venom's second album proved influential enough that its title was used as the name of an extreme metal sub-genre: Black Metal.

During the 80’s, Venom were THE extreme band, releasing more classic albums such as At War With Satan, Possessed and countless classic, live albums, such as the Assault live album series and the legendary Eine Kleine Nachtmusik Double LP and the The Seventh Date of Hell: Live At Hammersmith Odeon Video which helped launch Metallica, who were the support band for Venom’s tour.

Following Cronos’ departure from the band, Tony Dolan (The Demolition Man) from Atomkraft, stepped in filling Cronos’ big, red boots, most admirably. And recording four releases with Venom: Prime Evil (1989), Tear Your Soul Apart (1990), Temples of Ice (1991), The Waste Lands (1992).

Hailing from Newcastle Upon Tyne in North East England back in 1974 (yes – 44 YEARS ago!!!) the brothers Gallagher cut their teeth playing the pubs & clubs until solidifying their line up in 1980 with drummer Rob Hunter.  The trio went on to release three of the most influential metal albums of the NWOBHM (New Wave Of British Heavy Metal) on the Neat records label which in turn inspired every band of that era and beyond. Basically, without RAVEN you just might not have had thrash/speed metal…. after all, the band did give Metallica & Anthrax their first tours!

Propelled from the obsession with electronica but still a far distance from the machinations of the mainstream music of the time, the signature sound of The Sisters Of Mercy cultivated a powerful mystique, creating some of the most influential rock music of the 1980s.

Led by the haunting voice and visual focus of founding band member Andrew Eldritch, whose ingenious and self-proclaimed ‘supercharged industrial psychedelia’ spawned a subculture of underground rock music that gained cult status and has since been cited as a major influence by the likes of Metallica, Nine Inch Nails and My Chemical Romance.

Memphis rock/blues cult legend JOHN KILZER is back in quick time with a new album 'Scars'.

PR: “You can’t be from Memphis and not know John Kilzer,” says producer Matt Ross- Spang. “I’ve always been a fan of his writing and his singing.” Ross-Spang is, of course, the Grammy winning producer/engineer who has worked on projects with Margo Price, Drive-By Truckers, John Prine, Jason Isbell as well as the Elvis Presley catalog.  He produced John Kilzer’s latest work, Scars, an album for Archer Records that is a reflection of the noted singer/songwriter’s life and times in Memphis, the zeitgeist of the city and its history that are the focus of his musical soul.  He contends, “we all get scared but there’s some healing in being wounded.”

There are really many John Kilzers: the musical entity perhaps being the most well known. There’s also John Kilzer the star college athlete who played forward for the Memphis State Tigers.  There’s John Kilzer the academician who taught English literature at the aforementioned University.  There’s John Kilzer the Doctor of Divinity who is affiliated with St. John’s United Methodist Church. There is also John Kilzer the recovering addict whose personal experience, combined with his pursuit of a PhD in religious studies at Middlesex University in England, is the living embodiment of practicing what one (literally) preaches. The unifying factor for all of these John Kilzers is a great passion for music.  “It’s what enables me to do what I do, it’s my sanctuary,” he states unequivocally.

Back in the late ‘80s and early ‘90s Kilzer was on the brink of stardom.  Signed to prestigious Geffen Records when it was white hot with the likes of Guns ‘n’ Roses, Sonic Youth and Peter Gabriel, he released two albums, Memory In the Making and Busman’s Holiday. While he was not as commercially successful as those aforementioned label mates, the experience did establish him as a songwriter to be reckoned with.  Of note is the fact that his songs have been recorded by Roseanne Cash, Trace Atkins and Maria Muldaur, among others.  He’s continued to pursue his own recording career with indie releases including his previous effort for Archer, 2014’s Hide Away.

More recently, catalyzed by the prospect of working with Ross-Spang, Kilzer got busy, confiding, “Matt asked me if I had some songs. I told him I did. I didn’t tell him that I hadn’t written them down yet.”  He started writing feverishly, sometimes for 20 straight hours, picking out tunes on whatever fell to hand: an old guitar, a ukulele, the piano, a mandolin.  “I wrote the songs very quickly, in about two and a half weeks, and in a romantic sort of way. If there’s any organic metaphor to them, it was because they were all cut out of the same block,” he allows.

Soon thereafter, Kilzer and Ross-Spang, together with the ‘A-team’ of Memphis studio cats including Steve Selvidge (guitar) Rick Steff (keyboards) Dave Smith (bass) and drummers Steve Potts and George Sluppick, gathered at Music+Arts studio with engineer Kevin Houston running the board. Producer Ross-Spang came out from the control room and joined the assembled players on acoustic guitar. There’s a method to this apparent madness according to Ross-Spang. “When I’m producing, I like to be in the room with the artist. Better communication is a part of it. It’s different from being behind the glass and spouting orders. You’re in the trenches with them.”

In advance of those sessions there was very little rehearsal. “We just got there and played it,” says Kilzer. “There was a creative energy in doing that which I hope lives in the music.”

Adds Ross-Spang, “It’s like the old days with the Stax guys, and Sam Phillips and Sun Records... I think it’s important to get the band’s first impression as a unit, as opposed to individually. It's where we all go together that’s important to the song.”

The resulting Scars tune stack is 11 songs so heartfelt and personal that it’s difficult not to be immediately affected by their honesty and directness.  Kilzer attributes that to the singular place where he lives and works.  “It’s a badge of honor. I hope I have been able to live up to it. Memphis is where the big bang happened. You try to at least not mess it up before you pass it on.”  As he likes to put it, “All Memphis music is soul music,” and Kilzer’s soul is front and center on Scars.

Today Legendary drummer Carmine Appice is re-releasing his GUITAR ZEUS project, a compilation album featuring a who’s who list of the best and world-renowned guitarists on the planet backed by his core band featuring Tony Franklin (The Firm, Blue Murder) on bass, Kelly Keeling (T.S.O., M.S.G) on vocals / keys / rhythm guitar, and Appice on drums which wrote and performed these well-crafted timeless songs.
Album available now on CD, vinyl, download and across all streaming platforms here: http://smarturl.it/GuitarZeus

Originally released as two separate albums in 1995 & 1997, this new re-mastered album (by Stephen DeAcutis - Vanilla Fudge, Corey Glover, Overkill, Cyndi Lauper) combines both releases as one complete version for the first time ever across all digital platforms, as well as feature 5 brand new songs with Ron “Bumblefoot” Thal, Pat Travers, John Norum, and top Japanese guitarists RaiZi and Char.  Select songs will also be available on a special limited-edition vinyl and CD.
Carmine Appice’s Guitar Zeus showcases the complete and prolific talents of many world-renown rock guitarists including Brian May, Slash, Neil Schon, Yngwie Malmsteen, Bruce Kulick, Ron “Bumblefoot” Thal, Paul Gilbert, Mick Mars, Richie Sambora, Zakk Wylde, Bob Daisley, Dweezil Zappa, Vivian Campbell, Leslie West, Warren DeMartini, Steve Morse, Ty Tabor (Kings X), Ted Nugent, Dug Pinnick, John Norum and others…

“The Guitar Zeus project, for me, was an amazing experience that has never been done before by a drummer, especially with so much talent on one album! You get your money’s worth! Writing all the songs with my band (Tony & Kelly) and then picking out songs for each guitarist was a fun and time-consuming process, especially coordinating everybody’s schedules and recording sessions.

From the opening note, one can tell this is going to be something special. I consider these drum tracks to be some of the best performances in my career, topped off with working with so many great guitarists and singers.  The combination of players and song selection is something special with some of the tunes is out of the ordinary and ahead of their time!”
– Carmine Appice

“As soon as I heard the track, I thought it had a very haunting quality, evoking the ‘60s, but with a very modern slant. I also found the backing track very powerful and appealing, driven by Carmine’s very recognizable style; so I was keen to play on the track straight away” - Brian May
